Kanesville Symphony Orchestra

WET INK

August 5th 7:30 & 8th 3:30 PM

“Wet Ink unmasks the relevance of contemporary orchestral composition in the 21st Century. Stories without words, the basis of musical language, often addresses the human condition in a way that speech cannot. This concert is a platform for local composers to tell their stories using an instrumental paintbrush or narrative.” “We will journey through the history of music starting in the Baroque era leading to the present. This concert will display the evolution of the symphony orchestra, the expansion of instrumentation, and how harmony has generally transformed away from consonance to dissonance.”

James Michael Sellers Composer

James-Michael Sellers is the Resident Arranger, Orchestrator, and Composer of the Kanesville Symphony Orchestra. He has been creating new original works and arrangements for various instrumentations, from chamber ensembles to larger ensembles, for over two decades. Over the last ten years, he has become well known within the Flute Choir circle, having many works premiered both in his adopted hometown of Omaha with the Heartland Community Flute Choir and at the yearly National Flute Association conventions. While much of his time is devoted to creating works for publication to fill the void in chamber ensemble music, he has spent recent years as the Music Director for the Elkhorn Community Theatre, allowing him the opportunity to work with his secondary love of musical theatre.

April Corbet Composer

April Corbet is a multi-instrumentalist who joined the Kanesville Symphony Orchestra in 2019. Over the last several years she has helped create and direct music for various creative projects, including Murder in a Jerkwater Town (2018) and a Christmas Orchestra that played for retirement homes (EChO, 2020). She enjoys using music as a way to connect with people and bring them joy.

Heather Horst Composer

Heather Horst is a multi-instrumentalist who joined the Kanesville Symphony Orchestra in 2018. Her love for stringed instruments began in 1991 when she started playing violin in grade school. She continued playing as an adult, performing in UNO’s Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, attending Mark Wood’s Rock Orchestra Camp, and fronting her metal band, Human Teeth Parade. Heather has performed and recorded with numerous Omaha-area songwriters, bands and artists over the past decade.
