A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder is a murderous romp filled with unforgettable music and non-stop laughs. When the low-born Monty Navarro finds out that he’s eighth in line for an earldom in the lofty D’Ysquith family, he figures his chances of outliving his predecessors are slight and sets off down a far more ghoulish path. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn’t the only thing on Monty’s mind.
The videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder features a book and lyrics by Robert L.Freedmanand music and lyrics by Steven Lutvak.
director’s notes
“For those of you with weaker constitution, for those of you who may be faint of heart, this is a tale of revenge and retribution.” Welcome to Tony Award-winning Best Musical “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder” here at the Chanticleer Theatre, HOFF Performing Arts Center. “Gentleman’s Guide” tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession, by any means necessary. All the while, he’s got to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?) and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. The most celebrated musical of the 2013-14 Broadway season, “Gentleman’s Guide” won four Tonys and a Grammy. It opened at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre to overwhelming critical acclaim in November 2013 where The New York Times raved “‘Gentleman’s Guide’ will lift the hearts of all those who’ve been pining for what sometimes seems a lost art form.” The Hollywood Reporter enthused “‘Gentleman’s Guide’ restores our faith in musical comedy!” And Time Magazine said “Just as I was about to give up on musicals, along comes ‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder’!” It has been my privilege and pleasure to direct this musical production for the Chanticleer Theatre, with an amazing, talented and stellar cast. Leading this phenomenal company of performers is newcomer Zachary Fisher. Sit back and listen to his beautiful tenor voice! Also enjoy powerful songbirds Beth King and MacKenzie Zielke, the hysterical antics of Denise Putman, and the quality acting mélange of the D’ySquith family as played by the incomparable Karl Rohling. I would like to thank my amazing ensemble of 8, who have created a new level of ensemble for this show: Fred Baker, Tim Daugherty, Terry DeBenedictis, Lauren Gilmore, Korbin Horton, Justin Parsley, Brenda Smrdel Honliasso, and Julie Twohig. Award winning choreographer Debbie Massey-Schneweis brings her delightful humor, music director Jerry Brabec has not only brought new depths to the music, but assembled a fabulous crew of instrumentalists. It is my pleasure to again work with the design team including Bob Putman (scenic design), the phenomenal Dwayne Ibsen (costume design), and the creative talent of Joey Lorincz (lighting design). It’s Foolish to Think, who’s The Last One You’d Expect? Stop! Wait! What?! The show is about to begin! Sit back and enjoy! - GARY F. BOSANEK, Director

DENISE PUTMAN | Miss Shingle “Wow what a cast! I am so honored to be a part of this group. Welcome to all of you who are performing for the first time on the Chanticleer stage and so glad to see those of you back who have performed here in the past.” Denise has had the fortune to play some wonderful roles but a few favorites from musicals are Mrs. Potts, Miss Hannigan, Dolly Levi, Queen Aggravain and Mrs. Shinn. Denise serves as the President of Chanticleer and is a member of the PACE Board of Directors. She sings with the Madrigal Feaste presented by Dwayne Ibsen each holiday and she and husband Bob received the Heritage Award for the Arts and Humanities. Denise encourages everyone to support the arts by becoming a member of Chanticleer and PACE. KARL ROHLING | D’Ysquith Family A Council Bluffs native, Karl is excited to be back in his old stomping grounds, performing on Chanticleer’s new stage for the first time. JULIE TWOHIG | Ensemble Julie is back on the stage again after being seen in “The Music Man”. She is the mother to 2 kids and wife to 1 man…for now. In her “spare time” she enjoys chauffeuring her kids to different activities while chanting, “I can make this work.” She enjoys sleeping when she’s not awake and eating when she’s hungry. She finds the sound of her husband and dogs’ snoring soothing. She one day hopes to own a goldfish, as she thinks it will help her find balance in her life.

Debbie just finished choreographing “GREASE” at Bellevue Little Theatre and the musicals for Burke High and Papillion LaVista High. When not involved in theatre, she loves spending time with her family and being mommy to 2 yrs old twins Jackson and Victoria. It’s been 4 yrs since I’ve worked on Chanticleer Theaters “Cabaret” and I was so excited to be asked to return for “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder.” This cast has been outstanding to work with and while this isn’t a huge dance show in comparison…. they inspired the creative team to think outside the box and rose to any and all challenges we threw at them. I thank them for their creative talent and dedication to bringing this show to life. We hope you spend the evening with us laughing, tapping your toe and maybe even scratching your head a little. Enjoy the show!!!!
