BOARD OF DIRECTORS A Message from the CEO, Larry Fladager

Board Chair Greg Breeze Affinity Insurance

As we head into the summer season, the Chamber continues to keep busy with luncheons and event planning for the fall. The Chamber recently hosted two successful luncheons. The first, with the folks from Paper Excellence on May 26, was a chance to learn more about the company’s plans for the pulp and paper mill site east of the city. The second event, on June 2, featured a keynote speech from Pamela Schwann, President of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, who gave a detailed overview of the province’s current mining industry.

Past Chair Shelley Cannon Novus Law Group

This week, the Chamber is excited to host the province’s Minister of Finance once again this Friday to hear more details about the recent 2016 -17 Saskatchewan budget. As predicted, this was another tough budget due to the decline in the resource sector. Minister Kevin Doherty will be able to shed more light on the reasons behind the numbers at the lunch June 10. We hope you will be able to join us.

Second Vice Chair Garrett Lawless, Transwest Air

The Chamber is also gearing up for its annual golf tournament, the Duffer Classic. This is a fun event and a great chance to network with other local business leaders. The Duffer Classic will be held Friday, June 24 at Kachur’s Golf Course west of Prince Albert. For just $75, you can take part in nine holes of golf, and enjoy a steak supper, team prizes and more. Please call our office at 306-764-6222 if you are interested in taking part. The next day, Saturday June 25, the Chamber will be participating in a community clean up day to help clean up garbage and items that have been dumped illegally in areas around the city. You can follow the activities of the Keep Prince Albert and Area Beautfiul project on Facebook. If you would like to join us in the clean up June 25, please call us at 306-764-6221 or email chamberpa@sasktel.net As we enjoy time outdoors and travelling to the lakes this summer, please remember to support our local businesses that support our community. Everything you need for summer can be found in Prince Albert, and we hope you will continue to shop local. With summer holidays just ahead for many of us, we would like to wish all our local business members a safe and enjoyable summer. Please mark Thursday, August 25 on your calendars and plan to join us at the Chamber office for our Member Appreciation BBQ. Lunch is on us that day and we’re hoping you can make it. Just so we have an idea about numbers, please register by calling our office at 306-764-6222 or online by clicking here. June 2016

NEW WCB POLICY - Temporary Foreign Workers The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) has a new policy and procedure governing claims for temporary foreign workers. This policy pertains to workers who have received a temporary work permit (open or employer specific) under the Government of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Temporary foreign workers are eligible for benefits for injuries that happen on the job in Saskatchewan.

Reporting Injuries Employers must report all workplace injuries to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) within 5 days of being made aware of them. It is the law. If one of your employees is injured, complete an Employer’s Report of Injury (E1) form at www.wcbsask.com.

Contact Information

Did you know? Any worker injured while on the job for an employer covered under the Workers’ Compensation Act 2013, is eligible for benefits through the WCB. This includes landed immigrants, temporary foreign workers and refugees.

It is important that you maintain contact information for your temporary foreign workers. Know their Saskatchewan and home country-ofresidence contact information, as well as contact information for their next of kin. The WCB will require this information in order to provide benefits in the case of a workplace injury or fatality.

Medical Services The WCB Medical and Health Care Services team (MHCS) will expedite medical services for temporary foreign workers in order for them to return to work as quickly as it is safe to do so.

Work Permits While Injured If the worker’s work permit will expire prior to receiving medical aid, the worker must apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for a new permit prior to the expiration date. If CIC receives the application prior to the expiration date, the worker’s status in Canada will remain intact (“implied status”) while CIC makes a decision on the application.

Return to Work The WCB will assist you and your worker in your return-to-work plan. If the injured worker can go back to work after the injury but requires modified duties, it is your responsibility as the employer to contact CIC to confirm if the worker can use the same work permit for the new tasks or if they require a new one.

Questions? Visit www.wcbsask.com, contact us at askwcb@wcbask.com or call 1.800.667.7590. Subscribe to WCB Policy updates online at www.wcbsask.com.
