A Message from the CEO, Larry Fladager The Chamber welcomed its 2016-17 Board of Directors at a gala event November 3. This event is held every year to welcome the new Board Chair and Board Directors and recognize them for their hard work and efforts to promote business opportunities in Prince Albert. Members of the Chamber Board of Directors are volunteers who offer their expertise and experience as business leaders in our community to guide the Chamber as we work as advocates on your behalf. As our new Board Chair, Gordon Jahn noted during his address at Chairman’s Night, the Chamber is the primary voice of business in Prince Albert, working to build relationships, promote opportunities and make it easier overall for people to do business in our city. Members of the board come from a variety of business backgrounds and their support and expertise is an invaluable resource as the Chamber works to promote growth in the local economy and the surrounding community. This year’s Chairman’s Night event also featured a keynote presentation by Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, a CFL football legend and a very engaging motivational speaker. Now retired, Pinball works to provide opportunities for at-risk youth through his charitable organization, the Pinball Clemons Foundation. Pinball had the crowd at Plaza 88 up on their feet and clapping along as he gave a rousing speech about leadership, hard work, education and the importance of building bridges. In Prince Albert, it can be forgiven if Pinball’s comments around bridges were in reference to our city’s continued debate over a second crossing over the North Saskatchewan River. But, what Pinball was actually referencing was the need for the community to work together to foster positive relationships and growth. In encouraging us to be more engaged and to “give more than you take,” Pinball challenged us as a community to work hard to be the best we can be. That’s what Pinball did as a professional football player in the CFL. Rated as one of the smallest players in the league at just 5’5”, Pinball could wow the opposition and fans with his quick sprints on the field, bouncing off opposing players and taking the ball all the way into the end zone, and earning him his famous nickname. Just the day before our event, on November 2, the CFL announced that Pinball had been inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. As he mingled with the crowd in Prince Albert, signing autographs and posing for photos, he challenged us.

The Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce welcomed new Board Chair, Mr. Gordon Jahn and the 2016-17 Board of Directors earlier this month. The Chamber’s annual Chairman’s Night gala was held November 3 at Plaza 88 Event Centre. The event included fine dining catered by My Place, a silent auction in support of business scholarships at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and a keynote presentation by CFL football legend, Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons. More than 220 people attended this annual event, which recognizes the work of the Chamber Board of Directors in promoting business in Prince Albert. Incoming Board Chair, Gordon Jahn, spoke during the event about the work of the Chamber of Commerce as the primary voice of business in the city. Through regular luncheons and member events, the Chamber works to share information with other business leaders in the community on issues such as government policies, taxes and the economy, Mr. Jahn said. As advocates for the local business community, the Chamber promotes the priorities of our members at all levels of government. The Chamber has an active membership and the support and participation from our local members in our events and discussions is the best way to engage with the business community and make your priorities heard. Outgoing Board Chair Greg Breeze spoke of the past year, which included three election forums, several information luncheons and a mini Safety Charter signing event with WorkSafe Saskatchewan. Membership in the Chamber increased by 10 per cent over the last year as well. Pinball Clemons followed the speeches with his keynote presentation, where he touched on the need to work together in the community. Pinball had the crowd up on their feet as he talked about leadership and hard work, challenging all of us to work together to create opportunities for growth in our community and become engaged on real issues. The evening wrapped up with an autograph session with Pinball and the conclusion of the silent auction in support of business scholarships at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. November 2016
