Personal Statement 2nd year undergraduate student studying Fashion Brand Management at the University of Central Lancashire, with a keen interest in all things fashion and media related. When I graduate I would like to be involved in the fashion industry beyond the design stage. I find the idea of promoting fashion to different audiences, using a variety of mediums really exciting, and I would hope it would give me the opportunity to express my individuality. Whilst studying my course I have become passionate about the buying and merchandising side to the fashion industry, with projects allowing me to develop my skills within this area of the industry. I won first prize in a university project in collaboration with Interior Design, which resulted in my final product being built to scale and displayed in the University gallery. We had to design and develop a pop-up shop which would show the work of the University’s design school students. The opening reception involved my being interviewed for television. I have also had the opportunity to work alongside company’s such as Debenhams and SMD for live projects which saw us following a brief they had set especially for us. As well as being able to follow the briefs to their specification, we also had to present our final outcomes to the company directors themselves. All of our projects during our course need us to use programmes such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, for which I now find easy to use, and use them to their full potential.

University 2010 - Present - University of Central Lancashire - Fashion Brand Management The Fashion and Brand Management course covers a variety of different areas and subjects within the fashion industry, with 1st and 2nd year modules including Trend prediction, Styling Photoshoots, Brand Case Studies, Visual Merchandising, Advertising, Promotion, Magazine article writing and front cover production, product development, live briefs with industry and online PR. Each of these areas have really helped to understand the wider fashion world, and has helped me decide on the areas which I would like to focus on in my future career in the fashion industry.

Relevant Work Experience 2009 - Lowie Fashion Company - Work Experience Lowie is an online fashion company based in London, and I was lucky enough to secure some work experience there in the summer of 2009. During this period of work experience I had a great opportunity to see how a fashion company is run, in terms of how they advertise and promote their products, and also how their products are received by the customers. I took part in various activities such as: •Organising the stock room, to make it more accessible and easier to see where each item was stored •Sending out deliveries to customers who had placed orders using the online store •Helped out with finishing off particular products, such as sewing embellishments onto hats ready for selling.

Employment and Other Work Experience 2007-Present - Zest Gift shop - Sales and Admin Employee I have worked on a weekend and during holidays as a sales assistant, which has involved: •Operating the EPOS system •Helping customers •Creating displays for both in store and shop windows (particularly in fashion and jewellery). I have also been involved in administrative tasks involving stock control and data entry onto SAGE. I have also been able to assist the shop owners to trade events where I have learnt their buying techniques from a variety of clients.

2007 - Rotherfield Pre School - Work Experience During my weeks work experience at a local pre-school, I was given a large range of responsibilities, including: •Making sure the children were ready to start the day on time •Supervising them during their “play” time, •Organised the snack area, and the food which they were to eat during “snack time”. I also had to make sure the children were safe at all times, and were entertained so that they were enjoying their time at the pre-school.
