VIRTUAL THEATRE Nothing can replace LIVE theatre, but with virtual theatre, we have an opportunity to literally focus on elevating our body language- facial expressions, vocal quality, gestures and more. We will focus on these details with fun new scripts which have been written specifically for online rehearsals and performances. Students will receive their virtual theatre scripts by e-mail and we will rehearse using Zoom video conferencing. The last day of class, students will be allowed to record the final performance. To use Zoom, each student must have access to a computer which has speakers, a microphone, and video camera. Students will be asked to find simple costumes and props for themselves. We will have auditions on Zoom the first day of class. Please see page 12 for our in-person theatre classes.
RISING STARS Wizard of Oz
In this class, we will help students develop basic acting skills such as creative expression, clarity, projections, basic blocking, memorization, and script management as we work on the VIRTUAL radio play, "Wizard of Oz." All of the work done in this virtual class will culminate in a final presentation complete with costumes, and props. A cyclone carries Dorothy and her dog, Toto, away from her family farm and that mean old Miss Gulch to the magical land of Oz. Here she encounters some very odd but familiar characters like Glinda the Good Witch, the Munchkins, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, the wicked Witch of the West, and the Wizard of Oz himself who promises to grant everyone’s wish if they can find a way to defeat the wicked witch. But will the wizard keep his promise and grant everyone’s wishes and more importantly help Dorothy get back home to Kansas? Join us as Dorothy and her friends find adventure around every corner in the magical land of Oz. BROADWAY BOUND
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall-A Virtual Fractured Fairy Tale
Broadway Bound Virtual is a youth theater program for students in grades 6-12. In this class, aspiring actors will develop their craft as we work on the play, Mirror Mirror on the Wall. Fairy tales may not have the magic of technology, but they do have magic! And through the wonders of the magic mirror, even fairy tales can come to life for the virtual stage! The Evil Queen wishes to be the fairest of them all. But when her Magic Mirror informs her that it is Snow White who is most fair, the queen is livid! When asked how to find the princess, her mirror mentions that Snow White has run away. The Evil Queen summons great magic in hopes of finding Snow White—she can now look through all mirrors throughout the kingdom. But there’s a catch...the magic also allows everyone else’s mirrors to show them what they most wish to see. Everyone is hoping for their happily ever after ending, but will the Evil Queen’s jealousy ruin their story? PALATINE TIGER SHARKS SWIM TEAM Questions? Contact Tony Gallagher, Swim Team Coordinator at 847.202.3240 or tgallagher@palatineparks.org.
Palatine Tiger Sharks Swim Team is a multi-ability-level program that offers competitive opportunities, technique development, and fun for swimmers ages 6 and older. The swim team is divided into progressive groups. Open tryouts are held twice a year (in March and August). If there is still space available, new swimmers may join the team at any time throughout the year by contacting the swim office at 847.202.3240 to schedule a tryout. Team coaches make the final determination for group placement and advancement to the next level. Group sizes may be limited. Following a tryout, coaches will be able to give families approximate practice times and locations. Practice times and locations are subject to pool availability and may change. Registration is held during regular office hours at any Palatine Park District facility. All swim team registration requires a separate registration form. Non-residents are required to pay an additional fee. Families registering more than two swimmers will receive a $15 discount starting with the third swimmer. Registration fee plus the Swim Team fee are payable to Palatine Park District by cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover. Registration during Early Bird Registration guarantees a team t-shirt for each swimmer registered. After Early Bird Registration, a limited number of t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional Swim Team Fees are the same for both residents and nonresidents. Swim Team fees and escrow costs vary for each group. Palatine Park District registration fees do not cover all Swim Team expenses so the additional swim team fees are necessary. All fees are paid at registration. Each member of the Tiger Sharks Swim Team must be a member of Illinois Swimming and United States Swimming. Escrow covers costs of USA/ISI Swimming (an annual cost, expiring December 31 of each year; the USA/ISI fee is non-refundable) and of entering individual and relay events at swim meets. Any swimmer not registered with USA/ISI Swimming in the current year must pay an additional escrow fee. Unused escrow is refundable at the end of the season by contacting the swim board (escrow). Families can offset the cost of future swim team fees by participating in the team’s ongoing fundraising opportunities. Swim Team parents are required to volunteer during each of their child’s sessions at all Swim Team hosted meets. Failure to volunteer for any home meet will result in a charge of $100 for each meet session.

HORSEMANSHIP-INTRO
This class is required for all new students. It covers basic horsemanship skills including safety, grooming, tacking, and basic riding skills, thus building a foundation for our continuing riding program. Three lessons are non-riding. Students will learn to enter a horse's stall and lead the horse from its stall to the arena. They will also learn to tighten the girth and adjust their stirrups, techniques to properly mount a horse, the proper dismounting procedures, and returning the horse to its stall. As students become proficient with these skills actual riding time will increase accordingly. Students and parents should also be aware that due to the nature of the horse, behaviors such as spooking, biting, kicking, bucking, and playing will occur. How to handle these situations as a rider are an integral part of horsemanship and will be addressed in lessons. Please note that any session of Group Riding Lesson fees can be pro-rated to accommodate a participant's schedule, such as family vacations, school events, or any absence that would be known at the time of registration. This can only be done in person at the Stable facility. One make-up lesson is offered at the end of the session for one absence.
