FALL 2023 FITNESS CENTER MEMBERS, Thanks for reading the Fall Edition of the Community Fitness Center Newsletter! Hope all of you enjoyed the nice warm weather this summer. It has been busy this summer in the fitness center as well as the Community Center with various construction projects.

NEWS AND UPDATES

30 FOR 30 SUMMER CHECK-IN CHALLENGE WINNERS Congratulations to these lucky winners for winning either a free 60-minute personal training session, a Hydro Cell water bottle, or a Coleman lawn chair! Ryan Peca, August Spizzirri, Laurel Kaczor, and Margie Vlcek. Margie was the grand prize winner of the Coleman lawn chair!

On July 27th and 28th, members were provided with another pop-up treat day. Bananas, oranges, apples, and granola bars were available. The 30 for 30 Summer Check-In Challenge finished up on August 31st. Everyone that checked-in to the fitness center at least 30 times from June 1st through August 31st received a one-month membership extension or free month! The main basketball court at the Community Center was refinished and repainted. Drop-in Pickleball will be coming to the Community Center gym. Open gym pickleball times will be posted on the park district website. The floor in room 1E was replaced with a new vinyl floor. Cardio and Strength Conditioning class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings sometimes will use the room. Heading into the fall, the fitness center will close at 5:00pm on Saturdays. Reminder to members: Everyone should wipe down equipment before and after each use.

THANKSGIVING MORNING THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23 2 MILE ||| 5 MILE Celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends by running the 43rd annual Palatine Park District Turkey Trot at Harper College! Runners may choose either a 2-mile or 5-mile distance, kids can register for the 100-yard Sammy Scurry.

CHEESY CHICKEN PASTA BAKE Servings: 6

INGREDIENTS:

12 ounces whole-wheat penne (about 4 cups)

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 cup finely chopped yellow onion 1 ½ tablespoons chopped fresh oregano 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic 1 tablespoon finely chopped canned chipotle chile in adobo sauce 1 (24-ounce) jar lower-sodium marinara sauce 3 ounces cream cheese, softened ½ teaspoon salt 4 cups stemmed and chopped kale 2 cups chopped cooked chicken breast 1 ¾ cups shredded smoked Gouda cheese, divided

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Position oven rack 10 inches from broiler; preheat to 350°F. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain well. 2. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large high-sided skillet over mediumhigh heat. Add onion; cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 4 minutes. Add oregano, garlic, and chipotle; cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in marinara; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Add cream cheese and salt; cook, stirring, until the cream cheese is melted, about 2 minutes. Add kale; cook, stirring constantly, until just wilted, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in the pasta, chicken and 1 cup Gouda. Sprinkle with the remaining 3/4 cup Gouda. 3. Cover with foil and bake until the cheese is melted, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven, discard foil. Increase oven temperature to broil and preheat for 5 minutes. Return the pan to the oven; broil until the cheese is browned in a few spots, 3 to 5 minutes.
