How long have you worked for Palatine Park District?

What do you enjoy most about working at the Park District? I love that it's like a family,I love hearing the other members talk about their lives and how genuinely people care about each other.

What do you want members to know about the Fitness Center? It is the BEST deal around in terms of price. The Fitness Center Staff is awesome, the personal trainers are great and everything is super clean and that we do listen to member suggestions.

Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? When my two girls were younger,we would head to Lincoln Park Zoo for the Holiday Lights. We always froze, but there was always something very peaceful about it. I love white holidays lights on outdoor trees, especially after a snowfall when everything is super quiet outside.

Interesting fun fact? I once rode my bicycle with 1,500 other people from Minneapolis to Chicago. It was 750 miles and we slept in tents every night. We traveled like a moving cityand it was an experience I will never forget.

Member Spotlight: Steve Erdmann How long have you been a member of the Community Fitness Center?

My wife and I have been members for about 20 years, since the days when the entire fitness center was housed in what is now the stretching room.

What do you enjoy most about Community Fitness Center? The location, the value, the equipment, and most of all, the people!

What is your favorite workout to do?

TRICEP DIPS

I like to do strength training, along with some cardio and also swimming at the Harper pool. Keeps me in shape for the other sports I enjoy such as pickleball, golf, and skiing.

SIDE LUNGES

What brought you to the Palatine area?

CRUNCHES HIGH KNEES CALF RAISES ALTERNATING LUNGES

I grew up in Minnesota (go Vikings!), spent 11 years in the Air Force, mostly flying fighter jets in Europe, and moved to Palatine with my airline job.

Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? Our traditions center on faith, family, friends, and food. Favorites would include the candlelight service on Christmas Eve, travelling to see family, and the Christkindlmarket in downtown Chicago.

FUN RECIPES INSTRUCTIONS 1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Whisk egg in a small bowl and set aside. 2. Gently tear apart the crescent dough so that 4 crescent rolls form a square. Press the perforations together so they don't tear apart and form one square of dough. 3. Lay the dough out on a sheet of parchment paper. Put about 1/4 cup of cranberry sauce in the middle of the dough. Place the brie round on top of the cranberry sauce. Top the brie with more cranberries. 4. Tear apart a rectangle of 2 crescent rolls and lay them over on top of the cranberries on top of the brie. Fold the rest of the dough up and around the brie so it is encased in the dough. 5. Brush the tops and sides of the dough with the egg.

CRANBERRY AND BRIE BAKED CHEESE APPETIZER RECIPE • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

• About a 1/4 cup of cranberry sauce • 1 round Brie cheese • 1 egg

6. Place the parchment paper and brie on a baking sheet. Bake for at least 30 minutes, watching closely to make sure that the dough cooks through but doesn't burn. It should be a nice dark brown once done. 7. Allow the brie to cool for 15 minutes before serving. Source: https://growingupgabel.com/brie-baked-cheese-appetizer/

5-INGREDIENT HEALTHY CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT TRUFFLES • 12 chocolate graham cracker sheets • 6 ounces low fat cream cheese • 2 tsp pure peppermint extract • 1 tsp coconut oil • 1 cup semi-sweet dark chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment, wax paper or foil and set aside. 2. In a food processor, process chocolate graham crackers until fine crumbs remain. In a separate bowl, soften cream cheese in microwave for 15-20 seconds. Add peppermint extract to cream cheese and mix to combine. 3. Add cream cheese and peppermint mixture to food processor with processed graham crackers. Process until doughy mixture forms. 4. Using a cookie scoop, form dough into balls and place on lined sheet pan. Place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes.

5. While the truffles are in the refrigerator, microwave chocolate chips and coconut oil in a small microwavable bowl. Microwave chocolate on high for 30 seconds, mix then again for another 30 seconds until it becomes a chocolate sauce. 6. Remove truffles from refrigerator and dip in chocolate sauce. Place back on lined baking sheet and sprinkle with desired toppings.
