Palatine Stables Barn Buzz Indoor Washrack

The 2017 Indoor Washrack project has been a long awaited improvement to the Palatine Stables. Several issues with permits prolonged the process and just as the project was nearing completion, the cold weather arrived and halted the work on the new indoor washrack. We all look forward to warmer temperatures to see the completion of this project.

Winter 2018

Palatine Stables Hours Monday-Thursday: 9am to 9pm Friday: Closed Saturday & Sunday: 9am to 5pm Facility Closed April 1 and May 28

Pony Rides

Come on over to the pony barn where a parent or adult can lead their child on a pony around our pony path. The fee is $7 per ride, or $15 for a half hour pony rental. Bring your camera because kids on ponies make for the best pictures!

Meadowlark Park

Palatine Stable’s boarders have enjoyed leisurely trail rides with their horses through the Meadowlark Park property. It’s a nice safe trail riding experience for the riders and their horses who enjoy getting out of the arena from time to time.

Indoor Arena Lighting

Now that we are all riding indoors, we have had the opportunity to enjoy the upgraded LED lighting in the Upper Barn Indoor Arena. The light is noticeably brighter with less shadowing on the footing surface creating a uniformly lit arena space. In 2017, Palatine Park District was awarded $6,667 in a grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The grant covered approximately 60% of the project costs with the remainder coming from the Park District Capital Budget. The new 85W LED fixtures and bulbs will save 48,618 KWH per year resulting in a $4,000 savings in utility costs. This savings equates into just under a one-year return on the investment for materials purchased for the project.

Hay Shed Cupola

The rooftop cupola was installed by the Palatine Park District parks department on the existing hay shed roof. The new addition provides increased ventilation and the ability to exhaust hot air which naturally rises to the peak of the roof. Exhausting the hot air will improve fire safety in the hay storage area, improve hay quality, and help mitigate dryness of the hay itself.

Submitted Grant Application for Arena #2

Pending Park Board approval Palatine Stables staff has requested a capital project to improve Arena #2, which is located right in the center of the Palatine Stables property. More than 20 years of use has deteriorated the footing and the fencing to the point that it has become a bit of an eyesore when visitors and patrons first enter the interior of the facility, especially against the backdrop of the recently renovated Arena #1 and the newly fenced grass grazing area. The project will include expanding the width of the existing arena, renovating the base and footing and installing new white 2-rail PVC perimeter fencing. This renovation project will not only greatly improve the visual aesthetics of the property but will also improve its usefulness for Riding School lessons, as an annex arena for NIHJA and ISC Association Horse Shows hosted by the Palatine Stables and riding space for our boarders. Along with the improvements to the actual arena space, staff has also created a design to enhance the spectator viewing area at the arena. To help to offset the costs involved in these renovations and improvements, Stable’s Barn Manager Toni Bruns and Superintendent of Facilities Steve Nagle applied for a grant from the Illinois Equine Industry Research and Promotion Board. We are excited to announce that the Palatine Park District has been awarded a grant in the amount of $8500 to help with the cost of the project.
