Los Angeles has emerged as a global epicenter of art & culture, with a distinct, interwoven multi-cultural influence unique to the city. Diversity is our strength and art is most impactful when it includes or transcends all borders. As LA rises as the world-class destination for art, the LA Art Show continues to lead the way with innovative programming and one-of-a-kind experiences for an expanding collecting audience. LA Art Show is the unparalleled international art experience with over 90 galleries, museums, and non-profit arts organizations from around the world exhibiting painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, photography, design, video and performance. All works presented by galleries are available for your purchasing pleasure. More than 180,000 square feet of exhibition space is committed to today’s prominent galleries. These domestic and international galleries, beyond their booths, curate special exhibits that are at the forefront of the burgeoning contemporary art movement. The fair offers an extraordinary array of works and experiences in specialized sections.
We welcome you to the January 2022 LA Art Show. In our current ever-evolving, against-all-odds world, here we are. Live and in person. Again! Happy, grateful, excited, humbled, honored and thankful to again present the city of Los Angeles and beyond with an incomparable global showcase of fine art. It takes a great amount of creativity, vision, determination, skill, along with a great village, great galleries, sponsors, partners and collectors and staff to make a great fair. In the six months between our July 2021 show and today, we have brought together an array of unique elements for a renewed, interesting presentation with multiple moving parts that take this far beyond a standard fair experience. In the words of Marisa Caichiolo, our Director of Latin American Art Affairs and DIVERSEartLA Curator, “One of the most powerful things about art is that it brings people together, and transforms the way we communicate.” We are happy you agree and appreciate your support in joining us for this interesting and enjoyable ride. And, we look forward to seeing you again here at the Los Angeles Convention Center for our 2023 show. Enjoy the Show!
Scott Diament President | CEO Palm Beach Show Group
Welcome to LA Art Show 2022! I am both delighted and thankful the LA Art Show has returned to our original time slot after a highly successful summer event in 2021. At the same time, we continue to face myriad challenges when organizing an in-person show in the current climate, given the prevailing uncertainties and complexities. For our 27th edition, the fact that we have managed, yet again, to produce an inperson art fair at the LA Convention Center - our home venue - is a testament to the continuing dedication, passion, and tenacity of our team, our exhibitors, our sponsors, and our partners. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. Words cannot adequately express my heartfelt appreciation for the support of all the exhibitors in the show, many of whom had to make tremendous financial and personal sacrifices to participate. It has been especially challenging for our international exhibitors, grappling with constantly evolving travel restrictions imposed by both their home country and by ours. Yet, we have all prevailed as we welcome more than 90 exhibiting galleries and museums from North and South America, Asia and Europe. Our show has always been about community and inclusivity, and we strive to be a force for all that is progressive and positive. As the most comprehensive art fair on the West Coast, we have always presented one of the most diverse and engaging programs in the world. We are excited to reinvigorate the show while strengthening our city’s position as the epicenter of art and culture. While my first two years as Director and Producer may not have been the easiest, my commitment to hosting a spectacular and safe event remained unshaken. I am equally grateful to every member of our LA Art Show team, working tirelessly and graciously under pressure. Their optimism for what is possible, and their faith in my leadership, have been an inspiration, and I am thrilled to share the culmination of our collective hard work.

Citi is a proud sponsor of the 2022 LA Art Show and host of the LA Art Show Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi. The Gallerist Talks were launched as a platform to support a variety of international gallerists and provide global access to new audiences, art lovers, and collectors. The Citi space on the LA Art Show Floor will exhibit a curated collection of artworks from three featured galleries, extending their physical presence to provide collectors and attendees with new perspectives on the art. The gallerists and selected artists will discuss a number of current topics including finding and nurturing emerging talents, being and succeeding in today’s art world, and the creative process in art throughout generations. They will also discuss how artists inform the global conversation about the environment and a myriad of important topics through their artwork in this interactive format. We invite you to engage in a visual and verbally active experience during these live conversations at the Citi space on the LA Art Show Floor, or visit the Citi procramming page to watch the replays of each compelling gallerist interview.
LA ART SHOW Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi Beatriz Esguerra Art Bogotá, Colombia Gallery Owner Beatriz Esguerra represents a wide array of Colombian artists residing around the globe. She believes that the blend of Colombia’s impressive geography, history, and current events breeds creativity in its artists. Permanence, transcendence, intelligence, aesthetics, harmony, and skill, are the values that BEA looks for in art. Art should enrich both the soul and mind, in that order. As a key dealer in the art world, Esguerra will share her passion for bringing these Colombian artists to the forefront of the international community during her Gallerist Talk. She will also discuss the practices and work of Armando Castro, Pablo Arrazola, Teresa Currea, Pedro Ruiz, Armando Castro-Uribe, Mario Arroyave and Photographer Max Steven Grossman, and touch upon how they each portray and depict their concerns for environmental issues, racial equality, and gender equity in their artwork.

LA ART SHOW Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi Abend Gallery & Gallery 1261 Denver, Colorado
Family-owned Abend Gallery and Gallery 1261, are managed by siblings David Ethridge and Chris Mileham. The iconic galleries collectively represent an impressive stable of talented artists working in contemporary figurative and landscape styles. Over the past 20 years, the sister galleries have transitioned from being regional exhibition spaces into international digital powerhouses. They are dedicated to presenting work that reflects the artists’ most creative side without the constraints of marketability. For this Gallerist Talk, associate director, Brent Dilworth, will be joined by artists Dan, John, and Danny McCaw. The McCaw father and sons will discuss the challenges they face in retaining individual artistic identities while building a collaborative studio. They will each speak to the unique generational impact on their work.

LA ART SHOW Gallerist Talks Presented by Citi Neue Kunst Gallery, Karlsruhe, Germany
Neue Kunst gallerist Michael Oess has been a contemporary art restorer and curator of international corporate collections at his gallery for nearly two decades. He attributes his ongoing success to working with established artists from a wide variety of art directions, aiming to convey what he calls, “the joy of art with convincing quality!” Oess will be joined on stage by artists Kef! and Thitz, to discuss how digitalization is affecting their art practices, and how they manage an international presence in the physical and virtual realm. He will also speak about artist Igor Oleinikov’s enigmatic paintings and how Patrizia Casagranda’s work touches upon intriguing subjects including contemporary women’s issues, community-based practices, and the use of recycled materials.

DIVERSE art LA
DIVERSEartLA
DIVERSEartLA is a special programming section devoted to nurturing the creative energy of international collectors, artists, curators, museums and non-profits by connecting them directly with audiences in Los Angeles. The LA Art Show donates 50,000 square feet of exhibition space to participating organizations each year as our civic engagement, and the featured work is not for sale. Overall curation by Marisa Caichiolo with individual curators from institutions around the world.
D I V E R SE ar t L A
“One of the most powerful things about art is that it brings people together, and transforms the way we communicate. The goal of DIVERSEartLA 2022 is to view this sector of art within the show through ecological glasses. To take a closer look at how the environment is represented in art installations and objects, and also, how humans’ place in the world is depicted in saving the planet and documenting change in our environment (Past – Present – Future). This topic is at the heart of a growing number of art narratives, including exhibitions built with high-tech innovations, designed to inspire artistic appreciation and the desire to respond to environmental challenges reinforcing the value of translating environmental advocacy into art. The installations, immersive experiences, and performances represent our present day and the looming impact we will all face if the planet continues to warm. DIVERSEartLA 2022 will encourage visitors to confront the complex challenges of our global climate crisis and imagine potential solutions.”
- Marisa Caichiolo -
DIVERSEartLA is back with a new ecological lens. Curated by Marisa Caichiolo, this year’s edition will examine not just how the environment is represented in art, but how humanity’s place in the world is depicted. This exhibition will open up an important dialogue about the Earth’s past, present, and future, uniting the community around discussions of the global climate crisis and potential solutions. This topic is already at the heart of a growing number of art narratives and DIVERSEartLA is honored to provide it with an additional platform. For this year’s edition of the highly popular element of the LA Art Show, the curator decided to invite art museums and institutions to partner with Science and Environmental Museums. Together, they will create an entire world of immersive experiences focusing on the looming impact we will all face if the planet continues to warm.
DOX CONTEMPORARY - PRAGUE | CZECH CENTER NEW YORK & THE GENERAL CONSULATE OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC IN LOS ANGELES PRESENTING
THE SIGN (PART OF THE REAL NEWS SERIES)
Highway signs are always right. Not in a political way but in the way of conveying a fact. We believe them, take their truth for granted. In our time of social-media-fed competing narratives, “alternative facts” and fake news, the road sign seems to be one of the last anchors of truth that everyone can agree on, left and right. At the same time it is a true icon of Los Angeles, a city of freeways and cars, of people commuting to and fro, many hours a day, each day. Arguably, the road signs are the most read and trusted literature of Los Angeles, if we can call them that. On the one hand, they are a powerful symbol of progress of the last century, of mobility, power and transitivity. On the other hand, however, they can be read as compromising evidence of our technological rampage that has lead us into a real climate crisis.
The installation The Sign plugs into this a-priori factuality by mimicking the iconic freeway signage, while communicating an unexpected message: “Your children WILL hate you – eventually”. The text is a speculation about the future of our society as well as a deeply disturbing existential thought that had crossed the mind of most parents. Their kids are the ones who will pick up the tab of our celebrated economical progress – a religion of economical Growth at all costs. The installation is a site-specific artwork, placing the iconographic freeway sign into the interior of the LA Convention Center, creating an absurd situation for the viewer, conveying a disturbing message in the matter-of-fact form they have recently seen in their car getting off the freeway to get to see the LA Art Show. And the message stands, after all, highway signs are always right.

Climate change is a significant threat that has raised concerns all over the world. From shifting weather patterns to rising sea levels, the impact of climate change is global, and at an unprecedented scale.
Concerns about global warming have increased significantly since 2073. Climate activists across the world are now organizing protests and nonviolent civil disobedience to raise awareness around the crisis.
Be that as it may, there are people who are not concerned about the effect of climate change and it is divisive topic all over the world. We hope this installation can bridge the gap and instill a sense of urgency about the threats facing our planet so we can mend the issues that divide us and come together to heal the Earth.

MUSA MUSEUM OF THE ARTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GUADALAJARA AND MCA MUSEUM OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE PRESENTING
T H E O T H E R WAT E R FA L L & C H A PA L A A L S O D R O P S I T S E L F
The Universidad de Guadalajara, through the University of Guadalajara Foundation | USA, presents their most relevant museum projects: MUSA Museum of the Arts of the University of Guadalajara and MCA Museum of Environmental Science.
MUSA is a museum with 27 years of history. Their exhibition program includes activities in which arts become an impulse to motivate social transformation. Their compromise with the environment was consolidated with the state certification that recognizes the process and actions of the institution to protect the natural environment. The MUSA Museum of the Arts was one of the first university properties that implemented sustainable actions related to the management and recycling of waste, as well as the rational use of water and energy.
The MCA Museum of Environmental Science is an upcoming project of the university. It will be a space projected along with their community in order to foster a sense of belonging through empathy and closeness that will lead the community to initiate actions of ecology preservation. These are the three main visions that constitute the vocation of this museum; to understand the urban dynamics and their impact in nature, the equal disclosure of science and the generation of emotions that lead to learning.
This time, the MCA presents two installations of the artist Claudia Rodríguez: La otra cascada —The Other Waterfall— and Chapala también se-a-gota
—Chapala also Drops Itself—, where is reflected the
contamination and lack of water that has affected the state of Jalisco, Mexico the last decades.

THE EARTH’S FRUITS
The artists have explored new perspectives on approaching “creative doing” by using environmental art. They create from an ethical perspective and use ecological activism, which seeks to convert into the work itself those elements that lead us directly to awareness about the damage we cause that needs a call to action. In this sense, Guillermo shows us the huge colossal amounts of waste that we add to every day and it is from his own work, in line with the community, that he dedicates his hours collecting from the same environment he inhabits, which he calls Fruits of Progress. He aims to heal the footprint of contemporary man, which at present it seems irreversible. The real and the artificial landscape are mixed, but the artist strives to separate each element that he painstakingly weaves into large textiles arranged to challenge ourselves though installations on a human scale - not with words, but through the emotionality of the senses looking for a depository in each permeable visitor to take that message: “perhaps art cannot change the world, but it must try”. The Earth’s Fruits is thus constituted as a scientific research project whose ideology culminates with an installation work of a specific ephemeral site, where the waste that takes on a second life is dignified. Although tin cans may not leave this planet so easily, by confronting them with nature and creating a dialogue between them, we increase the chance of an enlivening sustainability education. In a fluid time where “the past itself is just as truly conditioned by the first present, as conversely the present is by the past” (Schopenhauer), rethinking stimulates us by putting into debate the individual, nature, and social structure. The construction of possible scenarios where a product of introspective inquiries are always subject to new orders. The immersive installation invites us to reconsider that we are part of a whole with nature - a complex whole in constant mutation and adaptation. It challenges us to examine our most recondite thoughts and induces us to take a departure to, in the words of the artist, questioning ourselves about who we are and the links that unite us to our habitat. In this way it proposes the visitor to act on new imaginaries, creating an illusion of time and place, where he is the protagonist.

R E CO G N I Z I N G S K I D R OW AS A NEIGHBORHOOD : S K I D R OW CO O L I N G R E S O U R C E S
Recognizing Skid Row As A Neighborhood is how DTLA 2040 (Department of City Planning) formally presented Skid Row this year to City Hall as part of updating the Downtown Community Plan. Community Plans set Land Use Policy and zoning regulations. DTLA 2040 continues through 2022. Skid Row is a dynamic, primarily African American, residential neighborhood - not a problem to be fixed. The brutal heat waves of September 2020 created Skid Row Cooling Resources, a collaborative planning effort and think tank to ensure the summer of 2021 and beyond was better for Skid Row residents. Skid Row is a unique Urban Heat Island in the larger Heat Island of Downtown Los Angeles.
- Tom Grode -
Tom moved from Santa Monica to 5th and Main in May 2012, not realizing he was a block from Skid Row. Since then, he’s focused on advocacy around Skid Row as a Community. Tom is an original member of the Skid Row Cooling Resources coalition, the Skid Row Now and 2040 coalition, the Skid Row Community Improvement Coalition, and the Skid Row Arts Alliance. He is heavily engaged with Skid Row as a powerful arts community, in particular a part of the Los Angeles Poverty Department (LAPD) and Urban Voices Project.

MUSEUM OF NATURE OF CANTABRIA SPAIN PRESENTS
O U R T U R N TO C H A N G E
Video-installation presented by Museum of Nature of Cantabria, Spain based on environmental issues.
The video installation appeals to the viewer, through images, to awaken to an increasingly worrying reality. It deals with climate change and the consequences that these changes produce in our habitat. Nature speaks to us, screams at us .....
One small drop fell and then another and another and another. Thus, drop by drop, large amounts of ice are lost every second. The poles are melting. Meanwhile, we continue on with our lives, with our dreams, as if this could never affect us. The dripping continues and vast frozen expanses have already been lost. The Arctic is at minimum levels, Antarctica has lost ice shelves, glaciers have retracted and the oceans levels continue to rise.
Forest fires, droughts, tidal waves, floods.... This is our turn to change. We can still do it.

M E M O R I A L TO T H E F U T U R E A large-scale Brutalist architectural sculpture, 20 (h) x 30 (w) x 30 (d) feet, with photographs (vinyl stickers), installed on various faceted walls of the structure. The base sculpture will be built by artist Daniela Soberman. 6-8 artists will be invited to include photographs which will be printed on vinyl and placed on the structure. The structure will have an interior that the visitor can pass through. The utopianism of modernity that led to scientific and technological developments also led us towards forms of capitalism that have endangered the planet. Exploitation, excess, and greed have driven this while an ostrich-head-in-the-sand has characterized our approach to engaging with climate change, and the problems and potential solutions that await us in the present as much as the near future. Based upon the conceptual architectural structures of Brutalism, as both visual aesthetic of Power and as a metaphor, reflecting Modernist idealism without humanistic realities - concerning how we might actually live with the conceits of the architect – this project brings together 6-8 artists, in conjunction with Soberman, to explore the situation within the historical context that led us to this point of environmental catastrophe but with contemporary takes on our current position. The formalist structure, created by Daniela Soberman, acts as the historical link to the project of Modernity and its aspirations while simultaneously reminding us of its perils and failures. Using Brutalist architecture as a reference point that encapsulates both the idealism and abject failure of this model, the collaborations, via photograph and video, highlight the need for immediate action. They do this not by way of propaganda, but rather via a diversity of photographic concerns that by physical proximity in their installation on a single structure, bring together various viewpoints and interpretations of warning, of caution, of danger in respect of our environment, nature and climate.

For younger Americans born after the attacks, 9/11 is not a memory lived, but history learned. Twenty years later, we remember those who were killed, as we honor the service and sacrifice of the brave first responders who ran toward danger to save others. By showing this body of work, we want to encourage reflection and help ensure that a new generation learns how, together, we met unimaginable tragedy and unfathomable loss with hope, resilience, and unity.
An evocation of site, a remembrance of tragedy, a progression towards healing – Shai Kremer’s Concrete Abstract series at once aims for individual and universal response to the destruction and rebuilding of the World Trade Towers following September 11th, 2001. Kremer describes his Concrete Abstract series as a means to “pay homage to America, to New York, to their trauma and their recovery.” The artist evokes the renovations and rebuilding of a once devastated sight as representative of a fresh start and ongoing therapeutic process for New York City. Like his past series, Kremer maintains “a post-traumatic gaze to the cityscape of Manhattan and by extrapolation, to the sociological landscape of America.” Kremer combined copious images to illustrate the site’s former self as well as its years of reconstruction. In the most recent works *The Tribute in Light*, a memorial installation of 88 searchlights forming two columns of light in place of the towers, brings new life to the hopeful images. The strength of the façade of the Freedom Tower is a testament to how far we have come in the rebuilding process. Kremer records a compelling interpretation, in which a process linking “accumulation, destruction, and reconstruction” become “the paradigm of modernity.” The zenith of that modernity, the now tallest building in the United States, is a proud symbol of our strength.

T H E I N S TA L L AT I O N “ P E R S O N A L A R T I FA C T S ” BY ARTIST ALEXANDRA DILLON
In this project, artist Alexandra Dillon explores character, personality and emotion by painting imagined portraits on used tools and other implements - recycled from swap meets and flea markets.
Tools such as axes and cleavers, hint at hidden and repressed feelings of rage and revenge, while her tiny lock and key sculptures offer hope that each of us can find the solution to our personal struggles. Her old master style faces on coal shovels, cleverly employ the ruffled base as an Elizabethan collar, and circular saw blades carry similar faces of strong women - badass babes whose time has come.
Her installation piece “Mood Swings” is a kinetic sculpture on two large shovels that are balanced on a mount that allows the viewer to manually move them revealing a face that changes from a smile to a frown as it swings on its axis.

BBAX’s Artist in Residence Program provides artists’ with a unique challenge by offering them the opportunity to create, in record time, a site specific body of work which requires a full time commitment. The program is an invitation for experimentation and research, which is carried out with curatorial accompaniment that supports the artist’s concepts, and provides different ways of exploring their own work.
For this year’s residency, artist Séverin Guelpa worked in a wide range of mediums: installations, objects, sounds, and photography, while exploring ideas of documentation, gathering, and analyzing life in the desert, an area he has worked in since 2014. This exhibition is the result of the artist’s exploration during the residency period, and deals with an unnamed phantom, a specter that haunts or perhaps shines a ghostly light onto the inner soul behind “the desert”. This mirage confuses and fascinates him; but despite this, he decides to explore the physical and emotional territory. Throughout the residency Guelpa plunged into the wild, untamed landscape of the desert, the boulders, the iconic Joshua trees, and the vast terrain opening onto the Milky Way above. As a conceptual artist, Guelpa focused on a survey of the territory, its geography, and the underlying tensions and fragility of living systems in the desert.
The high desert has long been a refuge for intrepid creative characters and stories. It’s a place that attracts dreamers, undeterred by the inhospitable environment. Séverin Guelpa’s artistic proposal gives us the opportunity to access multiple layers of interpretation but, above all, to see the effects on people who decide to experience the desert’s apparent emptiness. With this exhibition, Guelpa connects the undeniable and surreal vistas of freestanding home structures with the relationship between the land, nature’s resources, and private property. He gives new meaning to the debris that has been cleansed by the desert, and brings new possibilities of composition that explores the forces of balance in chaos.

S H I N I N G L I G H T I N T H E DA R K N E S S “A G I N G O U T ” : A C O M M U N I T Y PROJECT BY J.P. GONCALVES
Aging Out seeks to visually capture the reality of a social injustice that, too often, lies hidden in the shadows. Viewers are invited to consider seven portraits -- each portraying someone who, upon turning eighteen years old, has either “aged out” of foster care or would be “aging out” if a family had not gotten involved.
Each portrait is made of 3,000 squares. Each square is uniquely placed and angled either towards or away from the light source. The image created is only made of reflected light or shadows cast. In total, the 21,000 squares represent the amount of youth who age out of the American foster care system each year. Every eighteen seconds, the central light source is extinguished, revealing the face of a youth who’s endured a journey in this system, along with a poignant statistic illuminated by a smaller light. This cyclical lighting and extinguishing temporally represents the dreaded moment where, upon turning eighteen years old, our nation’s most vulnerable young adults are abandoned by the state and rendered subject to the mercy of the unjust societal forces that create these sobering statistics.
Gonçalves’ distinct technique uses shadow and light to expose the image, the message, and ultimately, a social inequity that deserves a well-defined place in the minds of compassionate and justice-oriented people with a heart for leveling the playing field so that all young people, regardless of their origins, have a fair chance at creating a meaningful life for themselves.

M E M O R Y O F A S PA C E AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSIE CHANEY EXHIBITION DESIGN BY CHRIS DAVIES
Jessie Chaney’s ongoing series Memory of a Space brings into focus numerous forlorn and overlooked sites the artist has encountered in her travels. These abandoned spaces are remnants of progress and change, empty buildings which provide evidence of previous inhabitants. Whether changes of fortune or the construction of new nearby highway leaves such places cut off and ultimately deserted, they still hold many telltale pointers to the lives and loves that once filled them.
Chaney finds beauty within the ruins and detritus that society leaves behind. Rather than mourn what has been lost, she celebrates the little details that provide glimpses into the past. This immersive installation both houses and echoes her artworks. Glimpses of other artworks appear as one navigates the space, and scrims provide veiled views though grimy windows, like those the artist encounters when peering into longoverlooked rooms. While Chaney’s photographs are essentially devoid of people, they still evoke an aura of humanity. The images tell stories through what has been left behind, fallen into ruin and often subsequently unofficially re-adorned with contemporary imagery. If her imagery conveys an air of nostalgia, it is not intended to be facile. Memory of a Space draws attention to the rapid changes in modern life, while celebrating small mementos of civilization.
Chaney began this body of work in earnest before the term ‘COVID-19’ was coined. Since then, as the global pandemic has continued, the series has assumed an additional gravitas, not influenced by prevailing political views or conspiracy theories. Focusing on the impact of societal change, Chaney’s abandoned spaces now might be seen as possible safe havens for the future.

P I C A S S O/C H AG A L L /C A L D E R : CONCEPTUAL TRADITIONS
Jane Kahan Gallery is pleased to present CONCEPTUAL TRADITIONS, featuring a selection of artworks from its collection of 20th century art by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Alexander Calder.
This exhibition brings together five works that highlight the collaborative process of creating art in specialized mediums such as tapestry, printmaking, and ceramic.
Known for creating powerful images inspired by the beauty of the natural world, these artists often shared their artistic drives with artisan workshops that guided their visions to realize large-scale concepts.
With methods and materials sourced directly from the earth, the featured works give viewers a chance to observe stylistic similarities and technical skill across mediums.
“We are thrilled to be participating in the 26th annual LA Art Show, which means we move forward with the tête-à-tête contact necessary for all human creatures. Kassandra did tremendous work for the 2021 edition and I’m so glad that she is continuing to lead the show.” - Jane Kahan

C A R LO M A R I A M A R I A N I BY DONALD KUSPIT BIENNALE DI VENEZIA CATALOG 1990
“There is a strange lucidity to Carlo Maria Mariani’s paintings, a beauty and radiance of surface and figure that seems more than the sum of their art historical parts. Mariani is a surrealist: his art is a kind of argument. All of his pictures involve a manipulation of symbols of ideality, presented with sensuous perfection, which gives them an ideality beyond reproach – in a sense beyond interpretation. Mariani‘s painting is thus a celebration of the ideal in art – the seemingly perfect – wherever it occurs. He isolates instances in which it appears.”
The present painting Flying in Spatial Atmosphere, 1989 is an autobiographical leap into space based on Yves Klein’s Leap into the Void (1960), and thus rendered in Klein’s famous blue.
