keepsake to capture memories for future years. Annually, we have many past students return for a trip down memory lane, visiting beautiful Brunei and Panaga School, to relive past treasured memories. This year, we had two ladies in their 60s visit, both born at Panaga Health Centre and past students of Panaga School, full of nostalgia,
looking for images and information to help bring their past Panaga memories back to life. Help keep your and your children’s memories alive from your time at Panaga School. Do yourself a favour and drop into either of our school offices by 24th May to secure your copy of this year’s Panaga School Yearbook - the 70th Anniversary edition - which will be distributed by the first week of July. They are still priced at only $14 each. Public Holiday update

Safe travel to school
Panaga School Weekly editor: Please help encourage our older students to use cycle pathways where Damian Brady possible and avoid cycling down the back one way (drop off zone) road damianbrady@panagaschool.com behind the Teraja Library. We have received worrying reports of
vehicles reversing up along this road in order to gain a car park. Please know that interventions will take place to curb such unsafe behaviour. If you see any such behaviours, please contact me directly. I will do all in my power to keep our students safe. Your help is requested to spread this message and promote safe travel to school. Regards, Cindy

International Mindedness Through Shared Learning in P1 and P2 Last week Labi, Merangking and Bukit Sewat pupils joined P1 and P2 for a morning of shared learning. It was a unique opportunity for Panaga School children to learn with their Bruneian peers.
Children in P1 were able to explore the Early Years environments, with the role play areas being firm favourites. P2 consolidated their learning while teaching their new friends how to build axles and wheels and investigated pushes and pulls in our daily lives. Teachers from the three schools expressed appreciation for the hands on learning which they can replicate with their students later in their school year. By the P1 and P2 Teaching Teams

Before
After
We are not completely finished but well on the way to creating a beautiful quiet area for the residents of the Old People’s Home in Seria. IFM laid the concrete and painted the old gazebo and the children all painted the plant pots to put around the patio area. P4 teachers have to lay some slabs and move the plants, so watch this space.

The children, teachers and IFM2 team worked tirelessly in very hot conditions. Extra paths were made so residents in wheelchairs can enjoy the area.

P5’s Smoothie Sale
At the end of last week, the P5 classes held a Smoothie Sale during break time at Teraja. The children had been tasked with designing a smoothie using rainforest fruits. The smoothie blends they came up with were delicious and the children really enjoyed the experience of selling their smoothies. The sale of the smoothies raised $328.70. The money raised by the sale is going towards the protection of Orangutans on Borneo through an ‘adopt an Orangutan’ initiative. By the P5 Team

What an action-packed week for P7! Last Thursday saw the P7 team collaborating with IFM to improve outside learning opportunities for the adult learners from Pandan 5. The day involved the centre’s students coming to Panaga School for the day to make wind chimes for their new outside yoga space. Whilst this was happening, staff from Panaga School and volunteers from IFM supported transforming their outside space to facilitate a growing area for plants and a new outside shaded stretching and yoga/sports area for the learners. The staff and children would like to thank the support and motivation of the IFM staff who volunteered (under the Shell 90 Acts of Kindness scheme) and made such a huge difference to the project. This really was a community project in all senses of the word. Children, teachers, IFM, adult learners and community members all working together for a wonderful cause.

As a part of their Migration IPC unit, P7 have been learning the traditional Penan craft of weaving. With one eye on sustainability, the students have created their own cardboard looms and re-used strips of old t-shirt material to create some very beautiful effects.
