Bookings for all Parent Teacher Consultations are to be made through the following link: www.tinyurl.com/panagaptcs Bookings for Early Years (Pre-Nursery, Nursery and P1) will be locked by Friday morning 30th November. For all other year groups, bookings will close on Friday morning 7th December. Cycle Safety Parent assistance is requested to reinforce children’s safe cycling behaviours. Members of the community have reported concerns of students cycling sideby-side across the width of roadways, when commuting to and from school. One motorist reported that as they turned, they had to stop suddenly, as one of our students was on the wrong side of the road, coming towards the vehicle. Last week, announcements were made at assembly to reinforce safe cycling behaviours, with students directed to use cycle pathways. On Thursday 22nd November, I spent the morning before school at the back of the Teraja building to monitor our students’ cycling behaviours. I am concerned to report that 7 interventions took place with students cycling side -by-side along the road. I have conducted safety intervention talks with these students, explaining the dangers of their behaviour. Parents are requested to reinforce this message with all students at home. Regards, Cindy

Panaga School is gearing up for the Hour of Code Who says computer science means just sitting at a desk and nerding out? For this year’s Hour of Code, you’ll want to get up, pump up the volume and dance! The featured activity for the Hour of Code: Dance Party, is a tutorial for students to code, get creative, and even dance, all at once. Students can choose from 30 hits like Katy Perry’s “Firework”, Sia’s “Cheap Thrills”, Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left to Cry”, Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way”, Justin Bieber’s “Sorry”, or international hits such as J Balvin’s “Mi Gente”. The tutorial helps students code interactive dance moves and special effects as they learn basic CS concepts.

What is the Hour of Code? The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Check out these tutorials and activities. When is the Hour of Code? The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2018 Computer Science Education Week 2018 is from 3rd - 9th December, but you can access the activities right now. By Neil Lynch

IP

HAT - Personal Goals

This week, we are looking at Cooperation.

Cooperation Through their study of IPC, children will be able to: - adopt different roles dependent on the need of the group and on the activity. - work alongside and in cooperation with others to undertake activities and achieve targets. - understand that different people have different roles to play in groups.

What this means to your child: Mendaram Rampayoh

I’m able to play alongside others and share. I’m able to learn in a small group. I’m able to learn with others and take account of their ideas and interests. I can choose and use a variety of cooperative strategies to lead a team.

Teraja

I’m able to learn with others in a range of situations and understand that people have different roles in order to achieve targets. I can take part in activities within the classroom and the wider school. I can take on more challenging tasks within the group.

Melilas

I can take charge of a group, finish all my assigned tasks and appreciate the effect of my actions and the actions of others around me. I can take responsibility for the group process.

This week’s activity:

With your child(ren) discuss the daily routine. Which part of the routine would be made easier and more efficient if all involved share responsibility and ‘did their part’. For example, could your child(ren) pack their own bags and organise the things they need for a smoother transition in the morning to school.

Thank you Indian Community for a fantastic Diwali celebration and gifts!

Our team of Bruneian teachers expands with the appointment of Miss Melissa Congratulations to Melissa Sim on her appointment as a Physical Education (PE) and Performing Arts Specialist Teacher. Miss Melissa is a familiar, smiling face to our community already, as she has worked here for ten years across the school from Nursery all the way up to M2, as a Learning Support Assistant. For the last year, she has been an integral part of the school’s Performing Arts programme, assisting Miss Sam with productions such as IPC Exit Point performances and Oz, The Musical. “Last year, the first Panaga musical, Oz, was a great success! I look forward to new opportunities to teach the children and rise to challenges with spirit and warmth!” Miss Melissa commented. As a PE teacher, Miss Melissa has plenty of experience and education too. She has taken courses in Healthy Nutrition and she is a certified spinning and Sh’bam dance instructor. Having spent much of her youth in Canada, Miss Melissa, whilst there, obtained diplomas in Early Years Education and Travel and Tourism. “I am excited for this next adventure!” she furthered. Amah first aid training - part two This week, the first aid training session was about how to use the automated external defibrillator and practise CPR. Many thanks again to Fraser Rowbotham (Advanced Paramedic, BSP Search & Rescue) and Marie McCready (Paediatric Nurse) for really helping to bring these sessions to life. Feedback from one Amah was, ‘We are not just learning to save lives, we are having fun too!’ Next week (Wednesday 28th November) is the final session and it will cover: Burns, bleeding, bumps and bandages. Further training is being considered for next term and will be advertised once confirmed.

M2 students reflect on their conceptual photography unit. They have studied the work of contemporary photographers and have been able to use these ideas to create their own work linked to the UNSDGs.

THE POWER OF THE IMAGE M2 students have become competent photographers with an eye for detail, both in their photographs and their sketchbook presentation. Their work explores the power of the image to convey a message and they have been able to create some very though-provoking outcomes.
