What a wonderful morning. The parents and children enjoyed perusing the art gallery, a celebration of the children’s creations over the half term. Alfie from M2 played the piano in the gallery to create a special ambience. We followed this by a truly amazing international snack. Word spread and P2 came to visit the gallery and were impressed by the learning. It was a great end to the term bringing our Mendaram community together.

The children in P4 enjoyed sharing their learning about treasure with their parents. They communicated their learning clearly using new technologies like virtual reality trips into Tutankhamun’s tomb and augmented reality, where their own pictures of Howard Carter come to life. They also shared their models, clay work and work in their IPC books. A fun time was had by all.

As we explored the Bright Sparks unit in the planning stages, we realized that the children needed to have more of an understanding of the fact that over a billion people in the world do not have access to electric light. The unit then took on a life of its own week by week as the students’ empathy for those without light developed into the global question of ‘what can we do to help those less fortunate than ourselves?’. The children reflected upon the lives of those in parts of Malawi, who have limited access to electricity. Students created a wide range of products at home and school to sell on the day for a Winter Market. They also designed and constructed games with circuits. We wanted to support a charity that used renewable energy, such as solar, to help disadvantaged people from around the world. During our previous unit of Explorers and Adventurers, we viewed snippets of ‘Free Solo’ and The Honnold Foundation. Alex Honnold (the free solo climber) devotes a huge portion of his free solo climbing money to Solar aid (providing solar lights to Africa), therefore we decided this was an excellent charity to support. With $1716.20 raised in a morning, we were very excited to send this money to such a great cause. Thank you for all your support on the day!

Learning Goals: History 3.07—To know about the idea’s, beliefs, attitudes and experiences of the people in the past.
3.10—To be able to find out about the past from a range of sources. I learned a lot of new knowledge and I really liked how she told it like a story. I was impressed by her excellent communication skills. Thank you Ms. Damola.
We were delighted to have Miss Damola share her knowledge about Benin!

As part of Citizenship, the M1 students were invited to Rampayoh, to take part in the P2 Exit Point. This term the topic in IPC for P2 was ‘Toys’, truly the best topic ever!
The Melilas students were asked to bring their favourite toy as well as their favourite children’s book. During a Citizenship lesson, in small groups, they had to form questions that they could ask P2 children about their favourite toy and the puppet they have made during the unit. The M1 students were super excited about the visit. Not only were they able to mingle with ickle pickle children, they also got to talk about and play with toys.
Panaga School Weekly, Issue Eighty-Three, 11th December 2020
At the beginning, some of the M1 students were a little bit unsure on how to interact with the younger children. However, it did not take very long for them to connect with each other. As soon as they started talking about toys, the ice was broken.
They built huge towers, shared stories and did arts & crafts together.
Panaga School Weekly, Issue Eighty-Three, 11th December 2020
All students demonstrated a lot of the personal qualities such as communication, co-operation, adaptability and resilience.
The M1 students were outstanding citizens and truly made us very proud. We look forward to future collaborations with P2 and M1. The next one will be the Language Leaders; teaching P2 students a foreign language. We will definitely keep you posted!

Whilst many in the Panaga School community is anxiously waiting to get their stockings filled by Santa, the Dutch kicked off their festive season with the celebration of St. Nicholas’ birthday on Saturday December 5th. Supported by the Dutch community (NVB) and his ‘Pieten Squad’ Meester Menno organised an amazing, fun filled Saturday morning. On behalf of all Dutch students a BIG thanks to meester Menno, Lidewij, Robbert-Jan and his team of Pieten and to all the helping parents. And of course to Sinterklaas for his visit and his lovely ‘pepernoten’ and chocolate treats.
