Updates from the principal’s desk... Dear Panaga School Community, Personal Qualities - The Value and Purpose It is our mission as educators at Panaga School to deliver high quality teaching and learning that is underpinned by personal qualities. Panaga School’s Personal Qualities are adaptability, resilience, cooperation, communication, enquiry, integrity, reflection, respect and international mindedness. These personal qualities have been developed Panaga School through careful consideration of the attributes we are aiming to develop IFM/4, through our school curriculum. Life is not always easy. This year, the BSP Company Sdn Bhd, Panaga School Community has managed significant obstacles such as Seria, KB 3534, peat fire haze, serious security concerns and school closure. If that isn’t Negara Brunei Darussalam enough, the reality of a global company reshape, along with significant travel restrictions and family disconnect for our expatriate population, brings another level of challenge. This is where we really get to practice putting (+673) 3375728/3372139 our personal qualities into action. It is acknowledged that for many, life (Teraja/ continues to present obstacles that are bigger than usual and as a small Melilas), community is it wonderful to see everybody being there for one another. I thank our school community for maintaining this level of support and (+673) 3372694 harmony for the benefit of our most valuable asset, our children. (Mendaram/ Rampayoh)

On the 12th of November, we had an absolutely wonderful morning in Nursery , thanks to our wonderful parents from the Indian community. The children enjoyed dressing up in traditional dresses, having mehndi drawn on their hands as well as a whole host of other activities! Thank you for supporting our children in understanding cultural diversity and helping them to learn about being internationally minded.

P1’s new secret Garden

For outdoor Classroom Day last week, P1 were busy creating a new garden area. With the help of some fabulous parents, a piece of wasteland was quickly transformed into a wonderful ‘Rainbow Garden’. The children have been busy watering and planting ever since!

Cooking up a storm in P1

By Miss Amy and Miss Rachel

Many thanks go out to the PTA who generously donated funds to P1 to create a new baking area. It is already being put to good use, with the children busily weighing and mixing to create scrummy “Asteroid Cakes”. Next week we’ll be designing and making “Pizza Planets”. Thanks again PTA!

Our P2 children were very excited to kick start the beginning of their Wetlands project in conjunction with Outdoor Classroom Day by visiting the beach to collect seedlings. After a really informative session with Miss Shelagh, the children were able to put their new knowledge into action as they searched for seeds in the correct stage of life. They were able to gather an impressive haul of seeds including Pandan Laut, Dungun, Api Api and Bakau whilst being very respectful of the environment. In addition, they collected quite a few Nipa Palm seeds which we hope to cultivate over the coming weeks. As the only palm considered adapted to the mangrove biome, it is especially important for our local eco system and the children were very excited to see lots of these in the germination stages. They had a lot of fun and used fantastic enquiry skills throughout the day.

Hockey and Football ASAs have been enjoyable this term with Miss Rachel, Miss Suzi and Mr. Menno leading the P2 and P3 children in their motor skill development and understanding of sportsmanship. In hockey, the children have been learning how to hold and use a stick safely, control a ball, work as a team, and practice their resilience. In football, children have been developing their ball control, passing, and cooperation through teamwork. We’ve been out on the field during all weather, and at times it has been challenging in the wet, or the heat, however, everyone has channeled their inner sportsperson to enjoy the games no matter rain or shine! Some days it has been hard to suffer a loss, or miss that goal but we are learning to congratulate our friends as they do well while we also practice hard to improve our own skills.

Using and developing our cooperation skills as we work as a team.

Practising our goal scoring.

Resilience and persistence as we try something new.

The torrential pouring of rain did not dampen P4’s spirits on our Outdoor Learning Day. Instead, we showed adaptability and resilience and still had lots of fun completing our learning activities.

We bought plants and planted them in the school grounds.

To link to our IPC topic ‘Treasure’, we created our own hieroglyphics using symbols of natural objects.

The Maya ball game was not only a sport, but also had ritual and political connotations. In our Mayan festival, Queen Murjanat of Tikal, was being threatened by King Harshan of Copan. Queen Murjanat is ruling until her son, Pikal, is old enough to take over as king. Copan threatened to attack and conquer the city of Tikal. The battle was decided through a game of Pok– A-’Tok’. Tikal won.
