Ready, set, vote! Federal election on Saturday, May 3 By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN AFTER months of speculation, the 2025 federal election has been called for Saturday, May 3. On Friday, March 28, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called a press conference at Parliament House to announce the federal election would be held in the fi rst weekend of May — a move that stole major momentum and thunder from the Opposition’s budget reply. With the announcement of the election, Governor-General, Sam Mostyn, dissolved the House of Representatives and caretaker conventions of the federal government are now in place. Carpark upgrade completed, loos next By SHARON BONTHUYS PATRONS of Kierath’s Shopping Centre in Narromine are enjoying a more pleasant parking experience following an extensive upgrade to the carpark at the rear of the facility. Resurfacing works were carried out in early March, completely replacing the patchy, pot-holed surface in the decades-old carpark with concrete, supported by new bright yellow linemarking. Importantly, disability parking access has improved in the upgrade, with three new defi ned disability parking spaces installed. Two are now against the fence near the rear entrance to the shopping centre, and one is located in the general parking area. The linemarking upgrade has also allowed a little more space for vehicles to park in the general parking area, with residents commenting that the space allocated per vehicle appears to be quite generous. The toilet amenities inside the shopping centre complex closed to the public this week for an extensive makeover that is expected to be completed by April 18. At this stage, the Narromine Star is unable to confirm if the upgraded toilet amenities in the shopping centre will be disability-compliant.

People power THE upgrades to the carpark and toilet amenities come a year after a petition generated significant community debate about parking issues and safety in the carpark, which also extended to the shopping centre’s toilet facilities.
Former candidate in last year’s local government elections, Melanie Pryde, started a petition last March to improve parking conditions. It was signed by 210 people. While Ms Pryde is very pleased with the upgrades and improved safety, she urges enforcement of illegal and poor
