Top crowd at Tomingley Picnic Races By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN ALL eyes were on Tomingley over the weekend for the community’s annual Tomingley Picnic Races event for 2025. A large crowd attended the event which swells the population of the tiny hamlet considerably when it runs each year. The six-race program offered up plenty of action on a good-rated track, and the fi ne Autumn weather made it a very pleasant day for racing. Avoid Me trained by Julia Presets won the Alkane Resources-sponsored Tomingley Picnic Cup jockeyed by Leandro Ribeiro. Event organisers, the Tomingley Picnic Races Committee (TPRC), always go all-out for the race meet, providing entertainment for all ages and staging the ever-popular and hotly contested Fashions on the Field. Event sponsor Alkane Resources/ Tomingley Gold Operations has continuously supported the event over the years. The partnership between the race committee and Tomingley Gold Operations exemplifies the synergy between local traditions and industry, fostering a sense of pride and unity in the region. “Alkane Resources is the major sponsor, and year after year their sponsorship provides critical funding that enables the event to continue and flourish,” a committee representative said in a media statement. “Their contributions extend beyond fi nancial support. They actively engage with the local community to ensure the races remain a highlight on the regional calendar,” the committee concluded. More photos page 17
