Trangie Fun Day By SOPHIA MCCAUGHAN WITH the Autumn school holidays well underway, Narromine-based organisation Communities for Children hosted their bi-annual Community Connect Fun Day in Trangie last week. The event was held at Wungunja Cultural Centre last Thursday with more than 30 community services from across Narromine Shire and beyond attending the event that was enjoyed by all, young and old. Narromine Community Skills Project spokeswoman, Sharon Miles told the Narromine Star that the event creates inclusion for all those in the Trangie community as it includes services, schools, and community members. “The community event creates an awareness of the services that are within and outreach to Trangie, while creating links and partnerships between services which strengthens the community,” she said in a statement. “It is important that the Trangie community is aware about the services that are available to them, so they know and understand where to get help if they need it.” The event kicked-off at 11am with special performances by the Wungunja Dance Group and Trangie Central School (TCS). Highlight of the day was the Easter Hat parade where stu-

Coordinator, Ann-Louise Stonestreet told ABC Western Plains late last week, that the event is a way to rebuild trust in Trangie between support services and residents. “The community have had services come and go, so they had lost faith in their ability to assist or support,” Ms Stonestreet said. “Having these community connect days are a way for people to build trust with services, meeting a real human and not speaking down the phone,” she explained. The purpose of Communities for Children, she explained, is to bring families and peoples together, and to build relationships. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” she told ABC Western Plains. “We want people to believe that there is someone to be able to help them in any situation, counteracting the isolation that COVID and technology have brought us.” Narromine Community Skills Project is a small nonfor-profit organisation which was awarded the Communities for Children contract almost 13 years ago. Ann-Louise is the Communities for Children coordinator for kids and teen activities for the Narromine local government area, including the small townships of Trangie and Tomingley.
