he fine practice of paper folding need not be limited to 3D objects, as Elizabeth Moad's amazing cards show. Her amazing projects show how basic folding and tea bag techniques can give your greetings a real lift!
GREEN AND GREY GREETING ➊ Fold squares of the grey border strip as shown on the 'Thank you' card (see right) and glue together to form a rosette shape. Add a silver brad to the centre. Attach a white border strip to a green card blank and then glue the rosette on top.

THANK YOU
➊ Cut the brown lace patterned border strip into eight 5cm squares. Use a scoring tool and ruler to score lines across and diagonally on each square. ➋ Fold the square of paper edge to edge with the pattern innermost. Open out and fold the square corner to corner, pattern outermost (see steps opposite). The square will then form a hat shape. Fold all pieces this way then glue them so they interlock to form a rosette. ➌ Attach to the grey card. Add a small black peel-off or brad to the centre. Use a spare piece of brown card and mount a 'Thank you' peel-off sticker or write your own sentiment then attach with foam pads. Finally add border strips of grey down each side.

Special THINKING OF YOU ➊ Attach blue Victoriana-style patterned paper on to a white card blank. Write your own sentiment or add a peel-off “Thinking of you” greeting to blue card covered with the same paper and then mount with foam pads.

➋ Cut 16 5cm squares from light blue patterned origami paper. Take one square and fold edge to edge with the pattern innermost. Open out and fold the square corner to corner pattern outermost. The square will then form a hat shape.
1 Cut a 4cm square of paper from the Paper Book and fold in half vertically so that the pattern you prefer is outermost
➌ Take one corner and tuck the point under and repeat the other side. Fold all 16 pieces in this way. Take eight folded pieces and interlock each piece, gluing in place as you go, to form a rosette. Add brads to the centre and glue each rosette to the card.
2 Open out and fold diagonally, corner to corner. Repeat this diagonal folding action with the opposing corners.
➌ For the central rosette cut eight 4cm squares from mint paper and fold to the hat shape stage (see steps). Then interlock these together to make a rosette, add a brad and secure to the card.

3 These two folds will form a 'X' shape and there should now be three crease lines all crossing the centre of the square.
FOR YOU ➊ Use a scallop edged punch or die cut 5cm diameter to cut seven circles from the cream floral patterned paper. ➋ Take a circle and lightly fold in half but do not crease. Open out, then fold each edge to the centre and fold over again to make a concertina as shown. Fold all the circles in this way. ➌ Use a die cut to make a large scalloped circle in the patterned card 10cm in diameter, and mount to a pink card blank. Glue the folded circles to this and add a brad to the centre. Attach the 'For You' greeting with white ribbon to the spine.

4 Press the sides inwards and flatten, so the paper forms a triangle shape. It is necessary to have crisp folds for this to work.
5 This the triangular structure you should be left with at the end.

➊ Press out all the components of the kit and arrange on a clean work surface. Glue a silver wheel to each chipboard wheel and leave to dry. Use a needle tool to pierce the marked holes through both layers of the wheels. ➋ Thread lengths of sewing cotton through each hole and secure on the chipboard side with tape. Make the length of threads longer on one wheel as these will be used for the dangling part of the mobile. Tie the threads together on the other wheel to make a hanging loop. ➌ Glue the two wheels together to make the support of the mobile and hang up if possible to allow the loose threads to hang down. ➍ Decorate the thread by fixing matching die cuts on either side of the threads with double-sided tape. Use PVA glue or a stapler to attach the foiled acetate shapes to the die cuts.

KITE BASE THIS VERY SIMPLE BASE IS USED IN A WIDE RANGE OF PROJECTS AND IS VERY FLEXIBLE
T
he ancient art of origami can produce some beautiful, captivating creations, many of which begin with an identical sequence of folds. These folds are known as bases and they are really handy to master before you attempt any origami project. Ashley Wood, author of Origami All You Need to Know, guides you through each base with his simple step by steps.
➊ Fold paper diagonally in half.
PRELIMINARY BASE
➋ Fold an edge in, to lie along the centre crease. Lift the opposite side of the paper, and push the edge tight up against the previous fold.
THIS BASE IS USED WIDELY IN ORIGAMI. IT IS MORE COMPLEX THAN THE KITE BASE, SO FOLD CAREFULLY
➌ Fold in the remaining edge to lie along the centre crease.
➊ Fold paper horizontally and vertically in half. Unfold. Turn over.
➍ This completes the kite base. Some designs call for the base to be folded in half at this point.
➋ Fold paper diagonally in half in both directions. Unfold.
1
➌ Fold the paper in half horizontally, using the step 1 crease. Hold the two short sides, and bring them down and to the middle, so that all the corners of the paper meet at the bottom.
2
➍ Flatten the base, bringing the two corners on each side together, and ensuring that all the points meet neatly at the bottom of the base. 3
