your free gift ZEBRA MARKERS 1 Cover squares of sturdy white card with patterned washi tape and die cut into flowers. 2 Cut 1.5cm x 3cm and 2cm x 5cm strips of co-ordinating card and cut at an angle one end. 3 Use a craft knife to trim a three-sided tab out of the centre, leaving a 4mm frame. 4 Fix the decorated flowers to the top to make paperclip style markers.
BLOOMING BOOKMARKS 1 Die cut a large flower from card. Tape the smaller flower die to the centre and partially cut it by laying the top perspex plate part way over the die before running it through the machine. 2 Cut a small flower from a different coloured card and glue over the partial cut. Add a flower centre in a similar shade. 3 Cut and emboss leaf shapes from green card and fix behind the flowers, taking care not to interfere with the paperclip effect.
SEED PACKETS 1 Cut a strip of patterned paper, 9cm x 21cm, and score down both long sides, 1cm in from the edges. 2 Score across the strip at 9cm, 18cm and 18.5cm from one end. Cut away the side scores from all but the first 9cm section. 3 Cut a rounded segment from the edge of the first 9cm section. To make a pouch, fold in the side tabs and glue to the second section. Cut the remaining end section of paper into a curve to make a flap. 4 Fill the pouch with seeds or a message card and fold down the flap. Cut small flowers and layer together. Glue the centre of each to the front of the pouch so the top few petals hold the flap down.

3 Cut several green leaf shapes. Keeping the cut shapes in the die, run them through the machine with a rubber embossing mat underneath to highlight the vein design. 4 Layer the cones together to make multicoloured blooms, adding a yellow die-cut centre to each. Fix the flowers to the tag and add leaves below.
2 Lay the larger flower die onto yellow paper and adhere the smaller one inside it, holding in place with washi tape. Cut two flower outlines using this combination of dies. 3 Cut several leaf shapes from pale green card. Glue the leaves in pairs to the back of the flower outlines before fixing to the folded edge of the card.

EASY D I PROJE E CT
Masterclass marbling with shaving foam Colette Smith gets messy with foam and food colouring on her latest crafting mission HOME STAPLES QUICK CREATIONS Even though I’m a professional crafter, I was a bit nervous before trying this homemade marbling technique, but it is so simple! The great thing about it is that you will probably own all the items you need already. It is quite messy, but that’s half the fun, and food colouring doesn’t stain like inks can. I used liquid food colouring, but gel colouring will work just as well.
Minimalistic marbling
Sometimes just a touch of texture is all a project needs. With the front of the envelope facing you, mask across the top so that only the flap gets inked. Remove the masking tape, add a die-cut flower to the lower right of the envelope and one to the tip of the flap

papercraftermagazine.co.uk
Quite a few marbled cards can be created in just one session; these can then be used to create backgrounds or alternatively can be die-cut, punched or stamped. You can also make up small boxes for a quirky gift idea. I’ve created three different looks; one using the technique to decorate an envelope, another using the marbling as the main focus, and the last as a sky background. Don’t stick to only one colour, either; just blend two or more using a cocktail stick.
WISHY WASHY Don’t overwork the food colouring into the foam otherwise the marbling effect can fade. I used a strong 300gsm card for the card projects and made the envelopes in 170gsm which made them tough enough to withstand the moisture but thin enough to fold. After wiping away the excess foam, simple dry the sheets of card under a heavy book to help prevent the card from warping and you’ll have beautiful patterned panels ready to craft with.

masterclass How to create a marbled texture
1 Squirt a thick layer of foam into a large shallow dish or tray. Add drops of colour randomly and gently mix in with a spatula
2 Lay a piece of card flat onto the foam and gently press down in each corner to spread it evenly
You will need w Craft essentials (see p92) w Sizzix dies: Happiness Phrases (660804) w Dies: flower, ornate label, sun w Men’s shaving foam w Food colouring: pink, blue, green, yellow w Shallow tray w Spatula w Paper towel w Cocktail stick
AWESOME ENVELOPES 1 Draw or download an envelope template and use to create an envelope from thin card. Following the step-bysteps on the right, ink both sides with pink and blue marbling. 2 Once dry, fold three of the corners into the middle to create an envelope and secure the overlapped edges with double-sided tape. 3 Trim a piece of white card to 6cm x 11cm, round the corners and fix to the front of the envelope.
4 Using a flower die, cut two shapes in dark pink and two centres from marbled card. Assemble and attach one to the lower left corner on the front and one to the flap on the reverse.
ROUND ROSES 1 Make a pink marbled sheet following the step-by-step instructions and trim to 10cm x 14cm. Matt onto a white landscape blank that is slightly bigger, then wrap white ribbon around the card and stick down.
3 Carefully lift the card out of the tray and lay on a flat surface. In one swift motion, use a ruler to scrape across the card to create a wave pattern
2 Die cut a large label from dark pink card and a smaller one from pink marbled card. Layer and attach to the left of the blank, slightly overlapping the edge. 3 Cut three 3D roses from dark pink card and two leaves from white. Arrange on the lower left of the labels and secure. Add a white bow above the flowers and a die-cut ‘Hello’ sentiment in the corner.
4 Use a piece of paper towel to remove any remaining foam and set the card aside to dry papercraftermagazine.co.uk
