YOUR PAPER PROJECT PaperCrafter reader Jo Jones felt very excited to be our Designer for the Day this month, and relished the chance to indulge in a period of creative play and have an exclusive peek at this month's materials! Here's what she made... ➊ Select a blue card blank and choose two different patterns of paper. Decide which pattern will form the bottom layer of the flower and cut six large ovals 3.5cm in length. For the top layer, cut six small ovals 2.5cm in length. ➋ Arrange the ovals to create a dual layer flower, as shown, positioning the top layer to sit in the gaps of the first layer of petals. Stick with glue to secure. Cut the blue dandelion

strip to an 11.5cm width and add an orange ribbon across the strip centrally, securing to the back. ➌ Select a piece of patterned paper and glue the letters to the back so the pattern faces outwards. When dry, cut around the letters using a craft knife. Position and stick on the card blank as desired. ➍ To make the flower centre, quill a circle from a strip of yellow paper using the quilling board. Secure the coil using a dab of glue and hold until dry. To make six petals, shorten six yellow strips by 15cm and create a coil. Release the coil to loosen, secure with glue and pinch one of the ends. Use the quilling board to help shape the petal. ➎ Stick the centre coil into place and allow to dry, then add the petal quills. Secure the petal quills into place, ensuring they stick to the base,

centre coil and adjacent petal. Use the remainder of the orange ribbon to create a small bow from two loops. Use a small piece of blue ribbon to secure the bow, and glue this onto the strip of orange ribbon.

@CAROLYN At the moment I'm loving making vintage and textured makes, with soft pinks, greens and faded floral patterns. @BOXCLEVER I love the construction element, so I really like fancy folds! Masses of die cuts and muted secondary colours. @NICOLA ROBERTSON GOLD Mine would definitely involve purple as that's my favourite colour, and some ribbons and bling too! @ANGELGONEMAD My favourite colours are blues, purples and pinks. I like 3D embellishments too, whether it's paper flowers or decoupage. Oh, and a ribbon to tie it all together (no pun intended!)

S

he's done it again! PaperCrafter designer Colette Smith has created five mouthwatering cards to tickle our crafting fancy, once and for all. Combine the kit's cool colours and stylish pop-out elements to create great-looking makes that will impress every time. As always, the hardest part is deciding which one to try first!

WITH LOVE

➊ Attach a 6cm x 12cm piece of yellow patterned paper to the top of a 12.5cm square top-fold blank. Add a 3cm x 12cm strip of navy card below the yellow paper and a 3cm x 12cm strip of turquoise card below the navy card.

➋ Wrap two lengths of twine around the top of the navy panel and tie at the left. Cut the ‘With love’ motif from the backboard and mount onto turquoise card, then trim and mount onto white card. Fix to the right of the blank with foam pads, as shown. Add gems to the star centres, as seen.

20 PA P E R C R A F T E R

FLOWER PANEL ➊ Make a top-fold 8cm x 15cm blank from white card and cover the bottom with an 8cm x 9cm piece of yellow striped paper. Apply a 2cm x 8cm strip of turquoise leaf paper over the join. ➋ Mount the tulip-shaped flower panel onto turquoise card, leaving a narrow border. Place centrally to the top of the blank. Round off the bottom corners of the card, add a few gems and affix an orange bow to the plant pot.

“THE QUIRKY HOUSE IS BASICAllY SQUARES WELCOME OF CARD CUT AT ODD ANGLES, AND IS A GD WAY TO USE UP SCRAPS.”

➊ Create a top-fold 7.5cm x 15cm blank from white card and round off the four corners. Stamp or write 'Welcome' in the bottom right corner.

NEW HOME ➊ Cut the top edge of a 5cm x 10.5cm strip of navy card to an angle, sloping from left to right. Attach to the bottom of an A6 blank. Cut a rectangular strip of yellow paper so the left height is 1cm and the right height is 2cm, with both longer lengths measuring 10.5cm and sloping to an angle, as pictured. ➋ To make the house, trim a slanted 5cm square in navy card. For the roof, cut a small section of aqua scallop border from the backboard and trim to an angle. Snip small slanted pieces of scallop border for the windows, door and chimney pot, then cut the chimney and window frames from navy card. Assemble to the blank. ➌ Cut the leaf panel and 'New home' motif from the backboard. Snip out the leaf and add a trunk from navy card. Attach to the left of the house. Fix the 'New home' motif centrally to the bottom of the blank and add pearls to decorate.

DOMESTIC GODDESS ➊ Trim the bottom of a 10.5cm x 11cm piece of blue card to an angle, sloping from left to right. Attach to the top of a 10.5 x 15cm top-fold blank. Trim a narrow strip of yellow patterned paper at an angle and affix below the blue card. ➋ Cut the ‘Domestic goddess’ motif from the backboard and fix to the bottom left corner. Mount the cocktail shaker motif onto turquoise card to give a narrow border, trim and adhere to the right of the card. Draw asterisks on the blue card with white pen and add gems to finish.

“PROTECT YOUR FINISHED FROGS BY BRUSHING ON JUDIKINS DIAMOND GLAZE AND LEAVING IT TO DRY”

zabeth By Elioad M

ELIZABETH MOAD, PAPERCRAFTER DESIGNER

E

lizabeth Moad has made a sweet brooch and earrings set from the green paper strips and tool in this issue's mini quilling kit. Recreate the set as shown or why not get inventive and create your own animal-themed jewellery?

EARRINGS ➊ Make two tight coils from two 20cm lengths of green paper. Glue a wiggly eye to each. Create two loose closed coils from two 30cm lengths of green paper. Pinch both ends then glue them together to form the head part. Attach the eye coils to the top with glue. ➋ To make the body, take a 60cm length of green paper and create a loose closed coil. Form two legs from two coiled 20cm green lengths. Pinch these into a teardrop shape. ➌ For the four limbs, stick three 3cm strips together, leaving the ends unglued. Assemble the frog shape by glueing the pieces together as shown. ➍ Glue one hand to the earring wire. Work the second earring in the same way, glueing the opposite hand to the earring wire.

BROOCH ➊ Work as for the Earrings, crimping each strip of paper before using it. ➋ Finish by adding a strip of red paper as a tongue and a brooch pin to the back.

ollow Tracey Daykin-Jones' lead by creating your very own unique stamps from the kit's special rubber block. Using a craft knife or basic lino-cutting tools, have fun carving out shapes and words for your own set of cheery greeting cards. These four designs are great for beginners to printing as the designs are very simple to cut.

SQUARE VASES

➊ Trim a patterned blank to 9cm x 13.5cm. Draw a mirror image of the word 'hi' onto the rubber block. Cut it out.

➊ Cut out a 0.5cm circle from the kit's rubber block. Ink two rows of dots onto a 2cm x 10.5cm strip of blue card.

➋ Using blue ink stamp the sentiment onto the bottom right of a blue card rectangle measuring 6.5cm x 11.5cm.

➋ Emboss the dots using clear embossing powder. Whilst they are still hot, emboss some circles again to produce areas with a higher gloss.

➌ Once the wording is dry, pierce a series of holes around it. Using blue thread, stitch around the edges.

➌ Stick the embossed strip to the left of a 10.5cm square white blank. Glue green patterned paper to the rest of the blank. Cover the join with a narrow strip of orange card.

➍ Stick a flower image above the stamped word. Fix the completed blue panel to the card using foam pads. To complete, glue three gems around the stamped word.

➍ Attach two vase motifs as shown. Round the two right corners of the blank with a corner rounder punch or scissors.

HAPPY HOUR ➊ Cover a white blank with orange card. Glue a slightly smaller floral patterned paper rectangle to this. Cut out a 2cm square from blue card, trim it in half diagonally and stick the pieces to the top left and bottom right corners.

ORANGE FLOWERS ➊ Cover a white blank with orange dot paper. Trim a piece of blue card to 7cm x 16cm. Sketch two stems in pencil, as shown. ➋ Cut out a leaf shape from the rubber block. Using blue ink, stamp the leaf half way along the longer stem.

➋ Stick three cocktail glass images onto blue rectangles and fix them to a 7.5cm x 11.5cm light green card rectangle at jaunty angles. Glue a second darker green card rectangle behind this, also at an angle.

➌ Using a pin and pricking mat, make holes along the pencil lines. Stitch through the holes using blue thread. Stick the vase below the stitched lines. ➍ Punch three flowers from yellow and orange card. Stick to the card using foam pads. Mount the completed blue panel onto a slightly wider green card panel. Stick this to the centre of the card to finish.

➌ Cut a cocktail umbrella shape from the rubber block and stamp the motif onto white paper using yellow and orange ink. Emboss it with glitter powder. Trim the image and stick it to the bottom right of the main panel. ➍ Pierce holes around the umbrella shape and use blue thread to stitch through the holes to create an umbrella. Attach the whole panel to the centre of the card using foam pads.
