HUGE CONGRATS 1 Create a 10.5cm x 12.5cm panel of white card and add a 1cm strip of blue card to the bottom. 2 Cut out lots of flowers from patterned paper. Arrange and stick in a semi-circle shape on the white card. 3 On a piece of white card, draw a semi-circle that is similar in shape to the flower arrangement. Use your stamps to print the sentiment in black on the semi-circle, spacing the letters equally. 4 When done, trim around the edges and add to a 11.5cm x 13.5cm blue blank using 3D foam pads. Add little gems to highlight the flowers.

Use the flowers on your free patterned paper to create a decoupage effect on your cards MR & MRS 1 Fold an 11.5cm x 21.5cm piece of white card and die cut a 12cm scallop-edged circle from it, leaving the fold below part of the cut area so it remains uncut. 2 Emboss an 8cm light blue card circle with a dotted design. Add this to the centre of the circle blank. 3 Trim two flowers and two little circle flowers from patterned paper. Cut out a top hat shape and fix all the motifs at the top of the card.

Musical MAKE Create this beautiful birthday card for the music lover in your life

M

ake sweet music with a playful piano card by Sarah Jackman Read. This unique greeting is perfect for any occasion, just change the sentiment to suit! If making something different is what you’re craving, then you have found the ideal paper make. A 3D card is always going to wow people, and they’ll practically hear the tunes bursting out as they open this one!

You Will Need  Craft essentials (see p92)  Online template from papercraftermagazine.co.uk  Dies: First Edition Modern Sentiment, layered flower  Buttons 1 Use the online template to cut out a piano shape from a 15cm x 21cm grey blank. Using a craft knife, cut and score a small flap on the front panel, as shown on the template. Cover the front of the card with pink patterned paper. 2 Draw a pencil line across the back panel, 5cm up from the bottom. Using the other two templates, draw a book cover and piano keys on grey card. Cut out, score and fold where shown. 3 Cut 16 8mm x 7cm strips of pale paper and glue across the piano keys card. Cut ten 8mm x 4cm black strips of paper and secure on top to create black keys. Fold into shape with the flap at the back. Lay a strip of double-sided tape across the flap and attach above the pencil line. 4 Trim three pieces of musical note paper to fit in the book, fold them in half and attach in the centre of the book cover. Glue the bottom flap centrally inside the card just above the pencil line. Cover the back of the keys and the space under the pencil line with paper to match front. Stick contrasting paper inside the card. 5 Fold the book and piano keys inside the card so it lays flat. Cut strips of heart patterned paper and glue down the left hand side and across the front. Die cut flowers and leaves in contrasting papers,

Crafters’ guide TO QUILLING SHAPES E

How to quill a butterfly

1

Prepare your blank and choose desired coloured papers for the butterfly

lizabeth Moad’s amazing thank you card may look fiddly but it’s a fantastic project for crafters who are curious about quilling. Any friend is sure to appreciate the care needed for this delicate design, and its just the project to whet your appetite. Follow and adapt Elizabeth’s how-to to make your beautiful butterflies into other intricate motifs, and everyone you know will be impressed by your precision and crafty pizzazz.

What makes quilling special? The technique gives you the freedom to wind coils of paper into any shape you desire. Secure pins into a foam board, then wrap loops of paper around the pin heads repeatedly to build up the shape outline. It’s great if you’re making symmetrical items such as the wings for the butterflies seen here. Insert quilled coils into the loops then add gems on top of them to give a super sparkly finish.

How can I experiment? Start off with 2mm and 3mm wide papers, which are used for delicate shapes like butterflies and flowers. Quilling suits all kind of designs, from animals, to words, and even distinctive portraits of faces and scenes in its most advanced form. Don’t be tempted to make every quilled loop concentric either; play around contouring darker areas with tighter wrapping and lighter areas with longer and looser lines.

2

Glue paper lengths at the ends and wrap into a loose loop

How do I make the delicate card on the right? It’s super easy to make. First, use a leaf stencil to decorate a 8cm x 9.5cm piece of yellow card, then mount it onto purple. Make a butterfly (right) and glue it to the yellow section. Adhere the panel to a 10.5cm x 14.5cm blue blank and stick rows of gems onto each yellow corner. Finally, take a blue ‘Thank you’ sentiment and stick it to the lower half of the blank, then add three gems below it to finish.
