FOUR FAB CARDS acey By Tr kiny a D es Jon
............................................................................... TRY PAPER STITCHING, APERTURE DESIGNS .............................................................................. AND A WATERFALL GREETING .....................................................
B
y adding a dash of sky blue to the traditional red and green Christmas palette, Tracey Daykin-Jones has injected a little contemporary pizazz into these four greetings. Try your hand at a range of different crafty techniques when creating them, including carving your own stamp. They are sure to give you that proud 'I made that' feeling when complete!
YOU WILL NEED: ❂ PaperCrafter kit ❂ Downloadable papers from papercraftermagazine.co.uk ❂ Craft knife ❂ Card, red, white ❂ Ink, red, dark blue ❂ Embossing powder, silver, clear ❂ Needle and thread ❂ Punch, corner rounder, hole ❂ Bone folder ❂ Baker's twine, red ❂ Heat tool
CARVED STAMP ➊ Using a pencil and writing in reverse, spell out the letters for 'Love' on one side of the rubber block, turning the 'O' into a heart shape. Look at the block in a mirror to check it is written correctly. ➋ Carefully slice away the rubber around the shape using a scalpel or craft knife, making sure to cut small pieces away at a time until the letters and heart shape are raised.
PRETTY BAUBLE ➊ Using a craft knife neatly trim a rectangle measuring 5cm x 9cm around the bauble image from a patterned blank, setting the remaining blank aside.
➋ Layer the bauble onto a slightly larger rectangle of red card, followed by a panel of blue patterned paper. ➌ Stick the layered section back onto the bauble patterned blank, adding a 7cm x 11cm rectangle of white card on the reverse of the front to help secure it. ➍ Stamp 'Love' once onto spare paper and once onto spare card. Use the paper version as a template to create a pierced image at the 24

bottom of the card. Stitch through the letters with white thread. Heat emboss the heart shape on the card version with silver powder. Cut it out and fix to the card as shown.
LOVE WATERFALL ➊ Round the corners of a tree patterned blank using scissors or a punch. Using red ink stamp 'Love' onto white card. Emboss with clear powder and cut out the letters and heart. Set to one side. ➋ Cut out four 3cm circles from blue patterned paper and layer onto 4cm green patterned squares. Stick a letter or heart to each layered section. ➌ Snip red and white polka dot

patterned paper to 4cm x 22cm. Place it horizontally on your work surface and score a vertical line 4cm from one end. ➍ Make three more horizontal crease lines at 2cm intervals from the first score. Stick the 'L' square to the top tab and add the remaining letters and heart to the other narrower sections. ➎ Trim a strip of blue patterned paper to 2cm x 11.5cm and round the corners. Stick the ‘E’ square from the waterfall element to the top centre of the blue strip and secure this section onto the card using doublesided tape either side of the centre. ➏ Round the corners of the red polka dot strip and punch a tiny hole in the centre bottom. Thread red baker's twine though this.
TRIANGLE TREE
➊ Cover a red blank with red and white polka dot paper, leaving a 0.5cm border. Add a strip of blue patterned paper down the left edge of the card. ➋ Stamp 'Love' onto a blue paper strip using dark blue ink. Layer this panel onto lightweight card to strengthen it and trim it to size. Cut a ‘V’ shape from the left edge. ➌ Create a tag measuring 5cm x 14cm from white card. Punch a tiny hole in the top and tie a length of red baker's twine through it. ➍ Cut out three triangles from g reen patterned paper, with a base measuring 4.5cm and a height of 5cm. Create a 1cm x 2.5cm rectangle from polka dot paper.
SHOPPING LIST .............................. Based in London and need more coloured card? Paperound sells 12-sheet packs for just £1. Call 020 8994 0099 or email jsp_pcs@yahoo.co.uk
➎ Starting at the bottom of the tag, layer the elements to create a Christmas tree shape. Stick the tag to the right of the card and add the stamped rectangle to the bottom left. Embellish with gems.
➌ Crease the corner of the folded piece back on itself, lining up the edge horizontally across the top. Finally, fold the larger section at the bottom in the opposite direction to create a tree shape.
CIRCLE DESIGN
➍ Secure the tree to the card, over the aperture. Punch tiny holes either side of the tip of the tree and tie a red organza ribbon through.
➊ Trim a blue blank to an 11cm square. Make an 8.5cm circular aperture in the centre. Cover the inside right panel with red dotty paper and stick a white doily in the centre. ➋ Cut out a 15cm circle from blue patterned paper and trim it in half. Holding it in a portrait position with the straight edge to the left, pull the top half of the circle down, keeping the left edges lined up.
25 PA P E R C R A F T E R
➎ Using red ink, stamp the 'Love' image onto red card. Emboss it and cut out the heart motif. Attach this to the bottom right of the tree and embellish with a red gem.

f there’s one thing that all of us would like for Christmas, it’s more time to make cards! Here, PaperCrafter pro Colette Smith has worked her magic and devised two greetings that take almost no time at all to create — handy for those tricky situations when a friend or work colleague slips your mind! We can’t be perfect all of the time now, can we?
➋ Take the spare part of the blank and trim to 5cm x 11.5cm. Cut a scallop-edged border along one edge of the card and flip it so the white side shows. Stick this to the bottom of the blank.
➌ Snip the blue ‘Peace’ motif and affix it to the bottom right corner with foam tape. Embellish the top of the three trees with a gem and add three more to the white panel next to the sentiment.
“Th k wrfuLLy tro d pack wh 50s spid mofs, pa ns d colrs. I a e baub prt cd blk - ’s Gges!”
BLUE BAUBLE ➊ Trim the bauble blank to an 11.5cm square so the bauble design sits towards the bottom of the blank. ➋ Glue a 2cm length of crochet cotton from the bauble hanger. Create a small bow from two lengths of crochet cotton and attach just above the hanger. ➌ Snip out the ‘Season’s greetings’ banner and affix it to the top left of the blank so it aligns with the left edge. Add clear gems to the bauble and several around it.
