SNOW IS FALLING

1 Cover a 12cm square white blank with star paper. Die cut a snowflake from a 10cm square of white card.

2 Die cut five trees from shades of blue and five from white card. Layer the coloured designs onto the white ones then fix the trees across the hills with foam pads. 3 Finish with a strip of cracker paper across the bottom edge, a stamped festive sentiment and a button tied with twine.

ELEGANT TAG 1 Cut a 7cm x 12cm tag from white card and cover with present paper. 2 Create a second slightly smaller tag from white card, die-cutting a tree from the centre before adhering it to the larger tag. 3 Add a second die-cut tree and small snowflake as shown. Punch a slot at the top of the tag, thread with ribbon and finish with a stamped festive sentiment.

PAPER POUCHES 1 Cut out two circles and two triangles from patterned paper. Die cut a snowflake from the centre of one of each of the pairs of shapes. 2 Stick a piece of acetate behind each window. Sew the shapes together around the outside edge, leaving a small opening so you can fill the pouch with sweets before stitching completely closed. Decorate with a tag tied with twine.

avinia Stamps is an established British company that’s been in business for ten years. Tracey Dutton and her partner Kevin Jones previously owned a successful pottery business for 15 years. Tracey loved stamping into her ceramic projects but struggled to find motifs that she wanted, so started designing her own. “Slowly there was a transition from the pottery business to being a full time designer,” Tracey explains. “More and more customers loved the stamps and wanted to purchase them for their own creative projects, so I started designing more stamps and less pottery.” Tracey is now a well renowned craft designer, recognised for her passion for fairies and fantasy, which is clearly reflected in her work. She also creates charming collections of floral and landscape imagery, inspired by her home in the Vale of Clwyd. ‘’When I design, it’s all about escapism,” she tells us. “Sometimes we all get a little bogged down in life and need a place to go, where we can feel inspired, positive and enlightened. To help people reach this through artwork is truly rewarding.’’ Lavinia Stamps now offers a whole range of distinctive and inspirational products, producing clear polymer stamps, scenescapes, toppers and now dies. “We thrive on new ideas and ventures and have a flair for bringing original innovations to the marketplace, ensuring our range constantly evolves in line

We speak to Tracey Dutton, designer and owner of Lavinia Stamps, about her craft journey

answering emails and preparing for shows. However, we always find time to design – creating our stamps is something we feel very passionate and proud about. We’re incredibly fortunate to be doing something we both enjoy.”

A busy crafter’s

Christmas

countdown Our guide to prepping for the winter holiday in just three weeks

W

e bet that last year you promised you wouldn’t leave Christmas preparations until December ever again? For many of us, jam-packed schedules can get in the way, meaning holiday planning often gets pushed to one side, no matter how many times Wham’s Last Christmas is

played on the radio to remind us! Here, we count down to the big day and demonstrate how it’s still possible to make this festive affair a celebration to remember, even when it sneakily creeps up on you! WORDS BY SAMANTHA LEWIS

Three weeks to go

Season’s greetings

Your first priority is getting your Christmas cards designed and sent. The Royal Mail suggests that we should aim to post our creations no later than 19th December, but to avoid the worry of whether it will arrive in time, get this ticked off your list as soon as possible.

QUICK TO MAKE

1 Cut green spotty paper to 10.5cm x 14cm and use a border die to create a pattern on the right side. Attach to the front of a white blank along the left.

TIME-SAVER

If you’ve got a die cutting machine, there’s no better time to use it. Instead of hand-cutting lots of fiddly elements for your festive cards, let it do all the hard work for you! Sizzix Big Shot Plus and Starter Kit, £155, 01754 612050, cuttingedgecrafts.co.uk

76

papercraftermagazine.co.uk

2 Mount a strip of pinky spotty paper to the right of the blank. Die cut a message from red card, a snowflake border, individual snowflake and a circle. 3 Layer these elements together as shown and stick to the front of the greeting using foam pads.

Two weeks to go

Finishing touches The kids may force you to dig out the tree and fairy lights before December has even arrived, but what about the table decorations? When you’re crafty, a well-presented table is a must – especially as mealtime is such a crucial part of the day.

Top tips

FROM EDITORIAL ASSISTANT, SAMANTHA  Fill two clear vases with baubles that complement your colour scheme and place them in the centre of your table, then top with our festive skewer decs (right)  Although making crackers is enjoyable, it’s not always a cheap alternative once little gifts are placed inside, so don’t feel guilty about opting for shop-bought  Name places are a nice way to personalise your table and they’re also quick and easy to make. All you need is patterned card, paper and your best handwriting skills!

Add some cheer to Your displaY with...

SEASONAL SKEWERS 1 Emboss a dove motif with a patterned design. Distress the edges with blue ink. Glue the bird to the top of a 25cm wooden skewer.

2 Top a second stick with a Christmas tree shape topped with a punched foil star. Tie a green twine bow around each skewer.

One week to go

Gorgeous gifting Gift shopping can often be a last-minute dash around the stores for some of us, followed by the stress of having to wrap all of them. To save yourself time, choose gifting packages that offer both pretty prints and the necessary embellishments like gift tags and ribbon too.

Wrap your presents in this gorgeous selection of quirky designs and sentiments from Scissor Monkeys. Christmas range, from £2.95, scissormonkeys.com
