FUN WINDMILLS 1 Cut two 8cm and two13cm squares of paper from the Paper Book or Kit (if using the kit papers, cover the white side with one of the patterned papers). Draw a 2.5cm diameter circle in the centre of each and punch a 4mm hole in the middle. Place a ruler from corner to corner in both directions and mark where it crosses on the edge of the circle. Mark a point 1cm from one corner of each square. Draw a convex curve from this mark to the nearest mark on the circle. Repeat for the other corners and then cut along the curves. 2 Make a 4mm hole in each of the 1cm wide arms of the windmills. Bend the arms towards the centre and secure by fitting an eyelet through all five holes. Thread a glass-headed pin through the eyelet and add a pearl bead behind each windmill. 3 Use pliers to bend the pin at 90º, approximately 3mm from the pearl. Split the top of the skewer with a craft knife and slot the bent pin into the split so the windmill sits parallel with the main part of the stick and the bent pin can be taped securely to it with washi tape.

PRETTY BIRDCAGES 1 Flatten pink, yellow and green blanks and cut four 1cm wide strips from the entire width of each one. Use double-sided tape and a gridded cutting mat to fix each set of strips into an eight pointed star, with the fold lines sitting in the middle. Create a small loop of spare card and fix to the centre of each star. 2 Cut a 5cm wide strip of card from each blank and wrap around a cylinder such as a hairspray can. Secure with double-sided tape, adding an extra piece of card over the fold if necessary to ensure the card makes a rounded tube. Keep the tube on the cylinder to prevent distortion while working on it. 3 Fix the top and bottom points of the star to opposite sides of the top edge of the card tube with tape. Fix the remaining points down at equal intervals to form the bars of the cage, with the hanging loop at the top. Glue a strip of patterned paper to the base of each birdcage. Leave to dry before sliding the cage off the cylinder.

VOTIVE LANTERNS 1 Measure the circumference and height of two glass candles. Draw two rectangles onto patterned paper, adding an extra 1cm in circumference to allow the ends to overlap. Make one 1cm taller in height and the second 3mm taller. 2 Place a strip of double-sided tape on the overlap section but do not peel the backing paper off. Trace the butterfly template from our website on to the smaller rectangle. Cut out the wings of the shape, leaving the central 'body' uncut. Decorate with a green gem. 3 Wrap this rectangle around the candle and fix with the double-sided tape. Fold out the wings. Take the larger rectangle and use a border punch system to create a lace effect along the top edge. Repeat with the bottom edge. Wrap around the candle and secure with double-sided tape.

➍ Cover a length of yellow ribbon, slightly wider than the third candle's circumference, with double-sided tape. Add a section of lace ribbon over this. Attach around the top of the glass jar with more double-sided tape.

CONCERTINA GREETING
W
ho wouldn't be proud to display this amazing card on their mantelpiece? Elizabeth Moad has used a variety of techniques to create her greeting but retains a sense of continuity with the leaf motif and repeated colour sequence. To get started, simply join five card blanks together to form the concertina and then decorate it by following Elizabeth's lead.
