Q

Wt projects c I make wh  circul punch? ELIZABETH MOAD SAYS:

Use a circular punch or diecutting machine to create these easy 3D shapes from card or strong paper. The great thing about this type of design is that the shapes will lie flat for posting if placed on greeting cards. The hanging decorations are a nice way to brighten up your home this summer, or get ahead by making some for your Christmas tree. To make the thank you card, I punched six circles for each sphere, then folded each circle in half, using a bone folder to create a clean crease. Next, I attached the wrong sides of the circles together, alternating between solid and patterned papers. I then stuck the finished ball shape to a blank. I finished the design with a patterned strip and sentiment across the bottom and lengths of ribbon. As an alternative, use the cherry blank in this issue's kit. Cut five 5cm circles from red card and glue and attach them the same way as before. To turn your circles into hanging decorations, cut six to eight circles out and glue the first to the last to create a sphere, adding a length of ribbon to the centre as you fix them together. The more circles you use, the fuller your shape will be. Elizabeth is a papercraft workshop tutor and author of many crafting books. Visit her website at elizabethmoad.com

Q

I' t a lge coLLec  p l-f scks, how c I use em ca? JANE SMITH SAYS: Peel-off stickers are very versatile. Because they are acid-free and water resistant, they can be used for decorating photos, cutlery, crockery and outdoor objects as well as card making and

scrapbooking. Colour the outline images using paints, inks, pencils or felt-tips or use them as an outliner for glass paints. You can also try inlaying the sticker (using the same sticker in a different colour to put the 'bits' back in) for a two-tone effect. By applying the sticker to different background papers, you can achieve many different looks. This works especially well with glitter stickers. Another option is to layer up the image as a 3D picture. Outline stickers can be coloured using permanent pens so you will always have a greeting that tones with your project. Many brides-to-be enjoy crafting their own wedding stationery. This makes it easy to create invitations that are unique and personal to you, and can also be relatively inexpensive. For your particular wedding, I would suggest

using a theme of maps as they are right on trend at the moment. Why not try upcycling and using old maps as backgrounds or borders on the invitation or punching heart shapes from them? Punch a shape around the location where your wedding will be held, or perhaps where you were both born to make it extra personal. Layer these shapes up on co-ordinating card or papers and use twine for a rustic, well-travelled look. You could even circle the exact spot of your wedding on a map in red pen for a scrapbook effect and handwrite all the details beside. Make it as personal as you can. It’s a good idea to use copyright-free or out of copyright vintage maps for this purpose or why not use patterned craft papers printed with map details? Combine with images of the globe, compasses, travel documents, love hearts or anything unique to your wedding. You could also line the envelope with the map paper too! FABULOUS FASCINATOR .......................................................................................................... . USE OLD AND NEW PAPERS TO CREATE A UNIQUE HEADPIECE .......................................................................................................... . TO SUIT YOUR STYLE ....................................

YOU WILL NEED: ❂ Four sheets of 'new' water colour or textured paper ❂ 1 sheet of 'old' lightweight pre-loved paper (e.g. old book or letter) ❂ Online template from papercraftermagazine. co.uk ❂ Jewellery adhesive ❂ Comb hair grip ❂ Craft knife ❂ Scissors ❂ PVA glue ➊ Download and print the petal and leaf templates from papercraftermagazine.co.uk and trace. Transfer the large template tracing onto your 'new' paper and cut out ten large flower petals. Then transfer the small template onto the 'new' paper and cut out five small flower petals. ➋ Fold each of the 15 petals in half and unfold. Separate the ten large petals and cut a 2.5cm slit at the point of each petal, along the folded line. Select the five small petals and cut a 1.3cm slit at the point of each petal, along the folded line. ➌ Take one large petal and, at the split, overlap one edge over the other to create a bulge in the petal and glue along the edge. Repeat with each petal (including the small ones). ➍ Gather five large petals and glue together in a circle, points in, overlapping them in the centre. Do the same with the remaining five large petals so you have two separate layers. Brush glue onto the bottom of the second layer and insert it onto the first. Repeat with the five small petals. ➎ Use the leaf template to trace and cut four leaves from the 'new' paper. Fold each of the leaves in half and unfold. Snip diagonal slits into the edges of the leaf to the centre fold to create a fringed leaf. Arrange and glue the leaves to the base of the flower.

➏ Cut a 2.5cm x 25.5cm strip of 'old' paper and cut a fringe about half way along one edge. Roll up the strip to make a 2.5cm coil and glue to secure the end of the roll. Fan out the fringe. ➐ Cut a one-inch circle from the ‘old’ paper and glue on the fanned-out fringe. The fringe should be visible around the edges of the circle. Glue the bottom of the paper coil into the centre of the flower.

onto the 'new' paper and cut out. Mark and cut a 4cm slit into the edge. At the split, overlap one edge over the other to create a bulge. Glue and trim the even edges. Transfer and cut out around 100 'tear drop' shapes from the 'old' paper and layer on the fascinator until it is completely covered. ➒ Use a jewellery adhesive to glue the hair-grip to the underside of the fascinator and leave to dry. Once dry, turn over and glue the flower to the top side of the fascinator base.

➑ Transfer the fascinator template 61
