GET AHEAD OF THE TREND AND CONJURE UP THIS STYLISH DUO ..................................................................................................................

lette By Coith Sm

YOU WILL NEED: ❂ PaperCrafter kit ❂ Card, white ❂ Gems, clear, white ❂ Baker’s twine, green ❂ Buttons, white ❂ Acrylic paint, white, pink, green ❂ Stranded cotton, pink ❂ Needle

I

t's time to dig deep and make the most of your kit to give your cards a charming finish. Paint, felt, buttons, twine — they're all welcome here! Snip, stitch and tie your way to beautiful cards and give your greetings the perfect trim tonight.

HIGH IN THE SKY ➊ Paint the pointed roof birdhouse in green, pink and white paint, as pictured, then a bird in green. Cut four flower heads from the pink floral patterned paper and stick one behind the birdhouse aperture. ➋ Snip three lime circles from bird patterned paper and fix to the centre of the remaining flower heads. Arrange the blooms in a cluster, along with three dotted green leaves cut from the lantern paper, as shown. ➌ Glue the painted bird to the house, tucked under the flowers. Secure a length of green baker's twine on the reverse of the birdhouse at the top. Tie two lengths of twine in a bow and fix to the top of the roof.

➍ Cut two clouds from white card and affix to the pink patterned blank. Place the birdhouse over so they overlap. Tuck the twine over the top and affix inside. ➎ Glue three lengths of lime twine above the dots at the base of the blank and glue a knotted length of twine at the right. Trim the ends to 2cm. Add a gem to the centre of the birdhouse aperture, centre of each flower and on each cloud.

FELT FLOWERBED ➊ Cut the olive blank to a 11.5cm square. Cover the bottom edge with a 3cm x 11.5cm panel of white card and add an 11.5cm length of purple ribbon to hide the join. 16

PA P E R C R A F T E R

➋ Trim the orange, blue and purple felt circles to 2.5cm in diameter. Place each circle onto a different coloured flower. Thread a needle with stranded cotton and sew a white button to the centre of each flower, threading through both layers of felt. ➌ Attach the felt flowers to the lower right corner of the blank. Add a white gem above the pink leaves. Trim the cotton ends.

he PaperCrafter team loves the kit's bright colours and snazzy silhouettes, and can't wait to add to our summer stash! You'll love creating stylish makes using Karolin Schnoor's wonderful designs that are sure to leave an impression. Here, Colette Smith has devised four makes for you to try out yourself using the charming illustrations from the kit's backboard. You'll love making these greetings as much as your friends will adore receiving them!

LOVE TO DANCE ➊ Cut a 10cm square section from the top of the olive green blank so the leaf garland is at the bottom. Create a 10.5cm x 14.7cm topfold blank from white card and attach the green piece to the top. ➋ Trim a 2.5cm x 11.5cm piece from the orange blank and roughly snip scallops along one long edge. Affix this strip to cover the join so the ends overlap each side of the blank by 0.5cm. ➌ Wrap a length of orange baker's twine around the join and tie in a bow at the right. Carefully snip the 'Love' sentiment from the backboard and secure to the bottom left of the card.

CELEBRATE WITH TULIPS ➊ Create a 12cm square top-fold blank from white card. Starting from the left, cover the top with the following sequence: 8cm length of the flower border, 3cm x 8cm section of orange card, 1cm x 8cm piece of pink card, another 8cm length of the flower border, 1.5cm x 8cm strip of pink card and 3cm x 8cm section of orange card. ➋ Wrap a length of bright pink ribbon around the blank to cover the ends of the strips, and tie in a knot at the left-hand side. ➌ Leaving a 1mm border, snip out the ‘Celebrate’ motif and attach to the lower right hand corner. Embellish the strips with three gems.

CONGRATS WITH FLOWERS ➊ Use white card to make a 10cm square top-fold blank. Stick a 1.5cm x 10cm strip of peach card along the bottom edge and secure a 1.5cm x 10cm piece of triangle dotty pink card above. Cut a 1cm x 10cm strip of indigo floral paper from the background of the large puppet sheet. ➋ Snip the ‘Congratulations’ sentiment and a pink flower, white

flower and blue leaf strand from the backboard, leaving a narrow border around the edges. Stick the flowers and leaf strand to the bottom right of the blank. ➌ Mount the ‘Congratulations’ motif onto a piece of white card, trim to give a 1mm border and attach to the top left of the blank. Make a bow from white ribbon and stick at the base of the flowers. Embellish the points of the flowers and flicks on the sentiment with gems.

MISTER MARIONETTE ➊ Trim the peach blank to 7.5cm in width. Cover the top with a 7.5cm x 13cm piece of turquoise and white patterned paper. Snip a 2cm x 7.5cm piece from the olive green blank and wrap a length of turquoise ribbon around one edge. ➋ Stick this section to the blank, below the edge of the patterned paper. Cut the puppet man out from the backboard, leaving a 1mm border. Insert brads where the joints are marked and attach four lengths of white crochet cotton on the reverse of the motif. ➌ Secure the puppet man to the blank with foam tape and affix the ends of the cotton on the inside of the blank. Inside the card, cover the cotton ends with a strip of peach card. 21 PA P E R C R A F T E R

FLOWER POWER

...................................................................................................................... FOUR FUN WAYS TO USE WASHI TAPE IN YOUR NEXT CARD DESIGN ......................................................................................................................

YOU WILL NEED: ❂ PaperCrafter kit ❂ PaperCrafter Studio Selection Paper Book ❂ Die-cutting machine ❂ Card, pink, white ❂ Dies, circle, paisley, oval, scallop-edged circles ❂ Piercing tool ❂ Thread, pink, white ❂ Felt, light pink ❂ Spray paint, white ❂ Sanding block ❂ Stapler

H

ave a go at paper stitching, concertina folding and die cutting whilst making Tracey Daykin-Jones' four unique greetings. Finish each one with a little washi tape magic using the special floral roll in your PaperCrafter kit.

BIRDY CIRCLE ➊ Die cut two 10.5cm circles, one from pink card and one from white. Layer a 9.5cm disc of turquoise patterned paper onto the pink circle and put to one side. ➋ Trim an 8.5cm circle from pink paper and stick two layers of washi tape across the bottom section. Trim off any excess. ➌ Glue the pink shape to the centre of the layered section and pierce a circle of holes around the edge of it.

38 PA P E R C R A F T E R

➍ Die cut a 7cm paisley shape from patterned paper and fix it to the card as shown. Make holes around the inner edge of the shape. Stitch through these with pink thread and add a beak. ➎ Using a die-cutting machine, cut a 4cm paisley shape from light pink felt and sew onto the larger shape. ➏ Score a horizontal line 3cm down from the edge of the white circle and cut off a 1cm strip directly opposite the scored line. Add double-sided tape to the smaller section above the fold and join the two circles together to complete.

Washi tape cards_Layout 1 23/05/2014 11:08 Page 2

WONDE RFUL W ASHI

FELT BOUQUET ➊ Cut an orange blank in half. Trim a 9cm x 14.5cm rectangle from a pink envelope and round the bottom right corner. Stick a strip of washi tape horizontally along the top edge. ➋ Cut out four strips ranging in width from 2.5cm to 3.5cm. Cut the ends at an angle. Layer these beneath the washi and secure in position using double-sided tape. ➌ Pierce holes down the right edge and across the bottom of the pink paper. Stick three felt flowers to the card using double-sided tape. Secure with a white 'X'-shaped stitch. ➍ Take the second half of the orange blank and score a horizontal line 3cm down from the top. Add double-sided tape to the smaller section above the fold and attach to the back of the front piece.

DANCER OVAL ➊ Die cut a 15.5cm oval from the front and back of the olive blank. Score a horizontal line 3cm down from the top of the white shape and attach the two pieces together using double-sided tape above the folded line. ➋ Use a die-cutting machine to trim an 8cm circle from a pink envelope. Stick this to the centre of the card. ➌ Cut out a 7.5cm oval from dancer patterned paper. Fix this to the centre of the pink circle.

PEACH CONCERTINA ➊ Snip a peach blank in half. Holding it in a landscape position, cut a diagonal line 5cm up from the bottom on the left side to the top right corner. ➋ Score a vertical line at 5.5cm and 11cm from the left edge and fold into a concertina blank. Layer each section with dandelion patterned paper, leaving a narrow border around each one.

➌ Spray paint three chipboard birds in white, building up colour with a couple of applications. Allow to dry and distress the edges with a sanding block. ➍ Stick each bird to a coloured felt circle and fold a piece of washi tape back on itself and staple onto the circles. Stick a completed circle to each panel to finish.

➍ Stick a length of washi tape onto white paper and die cut two 1.5cm scallop-edged circles from it. Stick these above and below the layered section.

Fold pieces of floral washi tape in half to make cute little tabs

➎ To finish, pierce through the holes on the top right of the card again where the front has been joined to the back.
