Welcome to GlBUSINESSmping
Happy new year and welcome to the January issue of International Glamping Business!
As we step into the new year, we reflect on the exciting developments within the glamping industry – and what an incredible journey it’s been. Over the last decade, we’ve witnessed the evolution of glamping from a niche, luxury experience to a thriving global movement, and we are proud to have been part of that story. In this issue, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of International Glamping Business, with a thoughtful reflection by our very own Steph Curtis-Raleigh.
As technology continues to shape the glamping world, we explore the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence. Portable Power Technology advises us on off-grid power solutions, and we take a look at the companies offering innovative guest technologies. Vicki Jones, Co-Founder of Tractors and Cream, shares her experience staying at Lights, Camera, Glamping – a post-apocalyptic hospitality experience –, while Richard Otten offers his insights into the evolving Dutch glamping market.
We have an exclusive interview with the young entrepreneurs behind Camp Out West, who are transforming an abandoned coal miners’ campsite into a glamping site, and have amassed over half a million followers across YouTube and social media through documenting their journey. We also sat down with ÖÖD House to find out more about the process of creating ÖÖD Hekla Horizon, which offers unparalleled luxury in the rugged Icelandic landscape.
We can’t wait to bring you another year of International Glamping Business.
Happy glamping!

The company, which marked its five millionth booking in 2024, anticipates continued growth in camping’s popularity as travellers seek deeper connections with nature.

KUDHVA TEAMS UP WITH NEW BRITISH DESIGN
Originally commissioned by the hospitality company Kudhva, New British Design’s K-Tent offers a unique camping solution that combines aesthetic appeal, versatility across diverse terrains, and a strong commitment to eco-conscious design principles. This innovative structure not only provides a refined experience but also minimizes its environmental impact, making it a perfect addition to Kudhva’s sustainable landscape in Cornwall.
The collaboration between New British Design and Kudhva took inspiration from the modern cabins designed by Kudhva and drew visual references from the modular structures used in lunar landings, such as the ones employed during the Apollo 11 mission. At the core of this resemblance is the K-Tent’s recycled aluminum frame, which is key to its structural integrity. The aluminum frame
suspends the canvas tent above the ground, supported by tripodstyle legs, offering a minimalist yet functional design.
The adjustable legs of the K-Tent provide flexibility, enabling the tent to be installed on uneven, multi-terrain surfaces, such as those found in Kudhva’s unique Cornwall landscape. Unlike traditional tents that sit directly on the ground, the elevated design of the K-Tent minimizes its environmental footprint, as it leaves little to no interference with the surrounding natural environment, preserving the delicate ecosystem beneath.
with one integrated solution,” said Hans van Nikkelen Kuijper, CEO of Bold.
“We’re excited to offer peace of mind through our secure digital solution which relieves property managers from the hassle of key management and provides vacationers with a seamless journey for an enhanced guest experience.“ HolidayHero CEO Hjalte Niehorster adds, “Together with Bold, we are setting a new standard for guest experiences for holiday rentals by combining convenience with cutting-edge security.”
by maintaining heat and promoting optimal air circulation inside the tent. Additionally, the K-Tent is equipped with large windows alongside the main door, offering guests generous views of the landscape, allowing them to connect with the natural surroundings during their stay.
Efficient and thoughtful design features enhance the tent’s functionality, such as the black canvas and hexagonal aluminum frame, which help regulate temperature
This shift towards innovative outdoor design is becoming more prominent in the design world. Major architecture firms, such as Bjarke Ingels Group, have also recognised the potential of eco-friendly and sustainable outdoor structures.
GITA(UK) A letter from
By John White, Executive Manager
GITA(UK) has now passed the 50 member mark – that’s great. A real vote of confidence in the vision that glamping site owners and suppliers set out last summer when the concept of a trade body for the glamping industry got the go ahead at the industry gathering in Bristol. Less than four months since opening our doors, I can really see the benefit GITA(UK) is bringing to its members, from insightful webinars to concrete input to government policy consultations on planning and fire regulations. There is a lot more to come, and in early February expect a new service that will give members unrivalled access to business advice, guidance and documents, more than justifying your subscription on its own.
I highlight this not to big up GITA(UK) – it does’t need it, we know there is a need for GITA and we know it can bring huge value to site owners and suppliers. But it highlights a broader point about the evolution of the glamping sector in the wider UK economy.
As many of you will know, my career has been spent running trade associations in industry sectors as diverse as garden furniture, baking, amusement machines and, my favourite for its uniqueness, lard! I have seen industries from the perspective of the proverbial helicopter. I can sometimes see the wood from the trees (I also worked in the timber industry) in a way those in an industry sometimes can’t. Not having to deal with the day to day business of running a business within a sector has meant I can focus on the broader industry perspective.
In my last column, I highlighted my first impressions of the culture of the glamping sector. My positive sense of an industry rooted in sustainability, delivering positive economic benefit in areas that particularly need it, and, of course, providing fun, remain. If anything, they have been reinforced as I get to know more people in the industry.
That culture remains at the heart of an industry that has changed from one where businesses in the sector operated in small, atomised clusters with familiar short supply chains, to one that looks more like a coalition of the like-minded. There is a palpable coming together, with smaller groups interacting with each other and competition and choice widening the supply chain. Driven by an increasing appetite for UK-based holiday experiences, the £500 million glamping sector is beginning to look to me like one that has matured from adolescence into a young adult. It has found its feet and, with growing confidence, wants to assert itself as part of the UK economy and at the front of a progressive, unique holiday offer. And like a young adult, I get the sense the industry is modifying its adolescent idealism––without losing it––to engage with the world as it is.
It made the formation of GITA(UK) something of an inevitability. All industries that reach adulthood need a collective voice. All businesses in a sector need that industry insurance policy a Trade Association provides. All new entrants and smaller companies need the services a Trade Association can provide to remain competitive in the broader market. My simple message to the glamping industry today is keep going. Like ageing itself, the sector will mature, but to remain healthy we need to be active. So, get involved in shaping our industry into becoming the best it can be.

TEN YEARS OF A Journey Through Innovation and Inspiration
BUSINESS
mping
Adecade ago, glamping was just beginning to carve out its niche in the hospitality industry, and the inaugural Glamping Show at Stoneleigh Park was a testament to the optimism surrounding this burgeoning sector. It was here that International Glamping Business was born, sparked by the excitement and potential we saw as suppliers and operators from around the globe converged to showcase their creativity and innovation. That first event was a pivotal moment—one filled with energy, inspiration, and the realisation that glamping was more than a trend; it was the future of sustainable outdoor hospitality.
From the very beginning, we knew that our publication needed to be international. The diversity and ingenuity on display at Stoneleigh demanded a platform capable of capturing the global story of glamping. Over the past ten years, International Glamping Business has had the privilege of documenting the incredible evolution of this sector, sharing stories of innovation and growth from every corner of the globe. From rustic retreats in the USA to luxurious ecoresorts in Japan, our magazine has celebrated the remarkable achievements of an industry that continues to redefine hospitality..
Forging Global Connections
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been the relationships we have built with glamping pioneers and trade associations around the world. Emerging organisations in the USA, Japan, Mexico, the UK, and the Czech Republic have been instrumental in fostering growth and collaboration within the industry. Initiatives such as World of Glamping in Slovenia have set new benchmarks, showcasing how glamping can combine sustainability, luxury, and local culture in extraordinary ways.
Among the many individuals who have inspired us are Maja Dimnik of Authentic Luxury, whose vision and passion for glamping have been truly transformative; Kerry Roy of Cerchio del Desiderio in Italy, a trailblazer who epitomises the entrepreneurial spirit of this sector; and
Sarah Riley of Inspired Courses, whose educational initiatives have empowered countless glamping operators. We’ve also been fortunate to work with Kate Morel, a stalwart advocate for design and innovation; Richard Otten from the Netherlands, a pioneer in sustainable practices; Adeline Lenoir from France, whose insights into European trends have been invaluable; and Hiroshi Iwai from Japan, a visionary in his field – as well as Ruben Martinez, who has done so much for the US sector. Sara and Marcin Dabrowski from Poland have also impressed us with their creative approach to glamping, proving that this sector knows no boundaries.
A Learning Curve Fuelled by Collaboration
The past decade has been an incredible learning curve for our team, made possible by the unwavering support of our advertisers, columnists, contributors, and, most importantly, our readers. It has been a privilege to tell the stories of glamping entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey— from launching their first site to selling their properties and moving on to new ventures. Some have embraced glamping as a lifestyle business, while others, like Sarah Dusek of Under Canvas, have built global brands and become legends in the industry.
This collaborative spirit has been the backbone of our success. Our advertisers— many of whom have been with us from the beginning—have enabled us to grow and evolve, while our contributors have enriched our content with their expertise and insights. To all of them, and to our loyal readers who have stayed in touch and shared their feedback, we extend our heartfelt thanks.
The Evolution of Glamping
Over the years, we have witnessed glamping evolve from a niche market to a recognised and lauded segment of the wider hospitality industry. Today, glamping is celebrated not only for its unique offerings but also for its contribution to sustainable tourism. Operators are embracing eco-friendly practices, innovative designs, and communitydriven initiatives, creating spaces that are as inspiring as they are environmentally conscious. The diversity within the sector
By Steph Curtis-Raleigh, Publisher International Glamping Business
is astounding, with options ranging from off-grid tiny homes to opulent safari tents, each catering to a different demographic yet united by a commitment to exceptional guest experiences.
Expanding Horizons
As the only international trade publication dedicated solely to the glamping sector, International Glamping Business remains at the forefront of industry reporting. Our journey has also led to the creation of two incredible sister titles: Glamping Business Americas and Glamping Business Baltic. These publications allow us to delve deeper into regional trends and opportunities, providing tailored insights for operators and suppliers in these dynamic markets.
Onwards and Upwards
As we celebrate ten years of International Glamping Business, we look to the future with excitement and optimism. The glamping sector continues to push boundaries, innovate, and inspire, and we are honoured to play a role in its ongoing success. From the optimism of that first Glamping Show at Stoneleigh to the thriving global industry we see today, this has been an extraordinary journey—and it’s only just beginning.
Here’s to the next decade of growth, creativity, and connection in the world of glamping. Onwards and upwards!
REINVENTING GLAMPING
Insights from the Dutch Market
The term glamping—a fusion of “glamorous” and “camping”— was coined over a decade ago, revolutionizing outdoor hospitality. What began as luxury safari tents with private amenities like bathtubs has evolved into a broader concept, encompassing unique accommodations, nature immersion, and curated guest experiences. However, the Dutch glamping market now faces new challenges.
Richard Otten, Founder of Glampingexpert. nl, has been at the forefront of this transformation. As a consultant, advisor and speaker, Otten works closely with entrepreneurs to shape innovative glamping concepts. “We’re at the peak of the curve,” he explains. “The market is saturated with
options, and it’s time to rethink what glamping truly means. It’s no longer just about accommodations; it’s about creating an unforgettable experience.”
The Dutch Glamping Landscape
The Netherlands has been a leader in the European glamping movement, with trailblazing companies like Outstanding, YALA, and Campsolutions setting high standards for luxury safari tents. These established players focus on durability, comfort, and design, maintaining their position as staples of the industry. De Waard’s Big Oak tent and other models introduce a sense of craftsmanship and tradition, appealing to travelers seeking authenticity.
Meanwhile, new players bring fresh ideas to the table. Tent2’s Dune Tent combines contemporary aesthetics with functionality, while tiny houses by Tiny House World and off-grid accommodations from Home of Hus reflect a growing consumer demand for sustainability and individuality.
The Peak of Popularity
Otten notes that while safari tents and similar accommodations remain popular, they no longer provide the competitive edge they once did. “The safari tent was groundbreaking a decade ago, but today, it’s everywhere,” he says. “Consumers have an abundance of choices, and what stood out before is now standard. Operators need to find new ways to differentiate themselves.”
This trend mirrors the lifecycle of bungalow tents in the 1990s, which began as a luxurious option but became the norm over time. To stay ahead, glamping businesses must shift their focus to creating holistic, compelling guest experiences.
Concept is King
“Placing a luxurious tent or lodge on your property isn’t enough anymore,” Otten emphasizes. “The magic lies in the overall concept—how you integrate accommodations, environment, and guest services into a seamless experience that resonates with your audience.
Pioneering Examples:
n Vakantiepark De Leistert in Limburg is a prime example of integrating glamping into a broader holiday concept. Their Superior-Glamping Tents, elevated and fully insulated for year-round use, showcase innovation. While the park doesn’t provide additional services like breakfast delivery, its extensive amenities and family-oriented focus offer a complete package for “pleasure-seekers.”
n Papillon Country Resort in Denekamp offers an exceptional example of experiential design and an example of a Glamping Village. Owned by Italian/Dutch entrepreneurs, this resort has created a slice
of Tuscany in the Dutch countryside. With Mediterranean-style landscaping, regional gastronomy, and cultural touches, the resort transports guests to a Southern European ambiance while maintaining the comfort of Dutch hospitality.
Key Trends in Dutch Glamping
n Sustainability: Accommodations like Home of Hus’ off-grid models are leading the way in eco-conscious glamping. Incorporating sustainable materials and energy solutions appeals to guests who prioritize green values.
n Year-Round Appeal: Outstanding’s All Season Tent has become a favorite among operators aiming to extend their rental periods. Designed for comfort in both summer and winter, it enables glamping businesses to cater to guests throughout the year.
n Experiential Design: Resorts like Papillon Country Resort demonstrate the importance of creating unique, immersive experiences. By combining thematic design with authentic cultural and culinary elements, operators can distinguish themselves in a crowded market.
A Platform for Inspiration
To foster collaboration and innovation, Glampingexpert.nl will host the Glamping Inspiration Tour on 24 & 25 March. This
two-day event will take participants to 12 cutting-edge glamping locations across the country, offering insights into the latest trends, accommodations, and operational strategies. “Such initiatives are crucial for sharing knowledge and inspiring the industry to push boundaries,” Otten says.
Overcoming Challenges
While demand for glamping remains robust, operators must navigate an increasingly competitive landscape. Otten believes success lies in crafting memorable experiences that go beyond the physical accommodations. “Straight rows of tents or chalets won’t suffice anymore,” he explains. “Green spaces, thoughtful dining options, and curated activities are what elevate a glamping destination and create lasting impressions.”
The Future of Dutch Glamping
With its rich tradition of innovation, the Dutch glamping industry is poised to lead the next wave of development. From experimenting with new accommodation designs to offering unique, thematic stays, the opportunities for growth and differentiation are vast.
“The future of glamping isn’t just about luxury,” Otten concludes. “It’s about storytelling—creating experiences that guests will remember, cherish, and share. That’s where the real value lies.”
As the industry evolves, the Netherlands remains a global hub for creativity and excellence in glamping. With events like the Glamping Inspiration Tour and the continued efforts of experts like Richard Otten, the next chapter of glamping promises to be even more exciting and transformative.
From Coal to Comfort CAMP OUT WEST
Emilie and Jon James have captured the attention of over 500,000 followers by documenting their transformation of an old coal miners’ caravan site in West Wales. International Glamping Business’ Editor, Annie, met the dynamic duo behind Camp Out West at The Glamping Show last September and recently caught up with them to discuss the progress of their inspiring rebuild.
Can you share the origin story of Camp Out West? What inspired the idea and what is your ultimate goal?
Our land is a former coal miners’ caravan site in west Wales, which used to be home to the miners who worked in the colliery across the road – one of which was my grandfather. The mine closed in the late 80s and the caravan site was left to become overgrown and forgotten. We had been looking for somewhere to build our own campsite/guest accommodation for years; when we came to view this, we just saw
so much potential and fell in love with its history, as well as my family ties to the site and the area.
We knew we could bring this old caravan site back to life, so we sold our home and all our belongings to buy the land outright. We were left with £500 in the bank and have been working hard over the past two years to make Camp Out West a unique glamping experience and to put this forgotten corner of Wales back on the map.
How did you choose the land and what initially drew you to the location?
We spent 2 years looking for land to buy. We drove around endlessly, found landowner details on the land registry websites and wrote letters and emails to see if they would sell. We searched everywhere online: estate agents, auctions, Gumtree, eBay, and even asked weekly in our local Facebook groups if anyone was selling land.
Our site was mentioned to us in a local Facebook group and initially we said no to even going to view it. Jon knew the area as it was near where his grandad lived and knew of what a mess the property was after years and years of being left unloved. After another year of searching, the same person mentioned the old caravan site was still for sale and we just thought, why not have a look, we’ve got nothing to lose.
Once we walked around the land, we could start to see the potential in the site (if you looked past all the rubbish and old caravans). We also found out during our visit that the land actually had planning permission in place for three units as well as a fresh water supply and its own sewer system, which was such a bonus. It really felt like it was too good to be true.
This caravan site was only 15 minutes from our old house, so we knew how great the location was… it’s why we moved here in the first place! It’s within 20 minutes of two large towns and 15 minutes from the motorway, so it has great access for guests travelling to us, as well as access to a large variety of shops and food options whilst still being out in the countryside. We are also close to the coast and the longest beach in Wales, which we thought would be a great attraction for our guests. We really couldn’t think of a more perfect place for our project.
What will set Camp Out West apart from other experiences?
Our story is what sets us apart. By filming our project, we’ve been able to take our community on a journey with us as we bring Camp Out West to life. Our viewers have been there from when it was just an idea to now becoming a reality. They’ve got to see the whole process from start to finish, as well as having an input on ideas for the site and how we do things going forward.
Our community is growing everyday, now with over 500,000 followers. Being able to communicate with them, get their feedback and have them involved in every step is really unique as we are able to tailor our site to our future customers’ preferences before even opening.
The branding and styling we have planned for our site will be really unique to us – as our site is rich in coal mining history, this will be woven into our identity for the site.
What is the biggest difference or development between where you are now in January 2025, compared to last year? As our land had been left abandoned and overgrown for the last 12 years, our first year on the land was spent clearing the decades of rubbish that had been left behind. Working around our fulltime jobs, we managed to remove and recycle over 26 tons of rubbish by hand. Transforming our 3-acre plot and giving us a blank canvas to start work on our campsite build.
We know 2025 is going to be the biggest transformation yet. With our first guest cabin nearly complete, the land is going to be habitable for the first time in over 15 years, which is such an incredible feeling.
How has Camp Out West changed your personal lives and relationship? What have you learned about yourselves through this entrepreneurial journey?
It’s made us realise we don’t need much to be happy. We have been living in a 25 year old tiny touring caravan with our dog for the last 2 years on the land while we have been renovating the site. We are now experts at camping in a field in all weathers and making do with a camping toilet and outdoor shower. This is a world away from the luxury cabins and glamping tents we will have on the site in the future so we can’t wait to be first in line for that!
We met at The Glamping Show last September – how did you find your first visit and were there any companies that caught your eye?
We really enjoyed looking around at what The Glamping Show had to offer. As we are new in the industry, it’s hard to know where to go first, so this was the perfect opportunity for us to see all the best in the industry in one place, speak to suppliers and see the quality of their products firsthand. We really loved seeing TruDomes & our friends at The Coal Bunker.
Are there any new trends in glamping or outdoor hospitality are you excited about – how do you plan to integrate these into Camp Out West?
We really love the current trend to more slow and unplugged stays, with a focus
on wellness. We really hope to create this atmosphere with our site, where people can come to disconnect and recharge. We will be creating an outdoor wilderness spa area on our land too, which we are really excited about, allowing people to relax under the stars, to the sound of our resident owls and other wildlife.
How has leveraging social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram contributed to your growth? Can you share any strategies or content that works particularly well?
We thought documenting our journey online would be the best way to advertise ourselves to potential guests, even before we opened. Our goal was to build a customer base first, even before launching anything to sell. We thought that was the best way to build excitement and allow our audience to follow the build every step of the way.
By documenting our project, it also created the added bonus of making us an additional revenue stream before we had even opened, which has really helped us fund and speed up the project.
What have been some of the most significant milestones or achievements for Camp Out West?
For us, a big achievement was launching our pre-booking stays on Kickstarter and selling out all our spots even before we’d opened. It was amazing that people loved our idea enough to pre-book their stay two years in advance before even seeing it finished.
We also love that we have been able to do this project completely debt-free with the money we make from our full-time jobs, as well as saving ourselves money by having the courage to take on a lot of the work ourselves.
Have there been any big challenges you have faced, and how did you overcome them?
Building the site around our full-time jobs and around the Welsh weather has been tough. With all the work being outside in the elements, we haven’t had the luxury of waiting for the rain to stop to keep working – we’ve just had to crack on, rain or shine. Purchasing some commercial fishing waterproofs was a game changer for making us last longer outside.
What plans do you have to expand or evolve in the future?
We are currently finishing our first cabin build and have planning permission for 2 more, as well as permission for 2 glamping tents, so lots of projects for the future to evolve the site and what we can offer. We would also love to create an area on site to do workshops, retreats and food events.
What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned along your journey?
As we have done most of the work ourselves, we were really surprised just how long each element of the project takes, especially doing the build alongside our full-time jobs. We aren’t builders, so we have been working things out and learning as we go. We definitely didn’t think we would still be living in our touring caravan 2 years in.
And finally, do you have any advice for aspiring glamping entrepreneurs?
Don’t wait until you open to launch your social media. Share it all, from the highs to the lows, as you never know who’s watching. Not only will you love looking back at it all, so will your future customers.
Discovering Iceland’s Wild Beauty at ÖÖD HEKLA HORIZON
Li ke many great endeavours, the story behind ÖÖD Hekla Horizon is one of “earned luck.” The journey began in 2018 when the founders were deeply involved in Iceland’s housing market. When one of their clients faced setbacks with a project, he offered them the land. A site visit and a night out in Reykjavik later, a handshake sealed the deal, and ÖÖD Hekla Horizon was born.
The name itself reflects the essence of the site: a breathtaking view opposite Hekla Volcano, one of Iceland’s most iconic natural landmarks. Each of the seven mirror houses offers a direct view of this majestic volcano, creating an experience that encapsulates the magic of Iceland.
The vision for Hekla Horizon is simple yet powerful: to offer travellers an allencompassing Icelandic adventure with the perfect balance of discovery and relaxation. Whether marvelling at the Northern Lights from the dedicated lounge, taking in the river views, or exploring the nearby natural wonders, guests are immersed in the country’s raw beauty.
From Vision to Reality
Transforming the concept into a fully operational glamping site was a challenging yet rewarding process. What was initially envisioned as a straightforward development became a 2.5-year journey. The first 1.5 years were dedicated to securing permits and meticulously planning the site, ensuring every aspect aligned with both environmental sustainability and guest experience. The final year saw the completion of infrastructure, landscaping, and the installation of the innovative ÖÖD mirror houses.
The project also became a testing ground for new ÖÖD products. The site showcases a nearly full lineup of their mirror houses, allowing firsthand evaluation before offering them to customers worldwide. This commitment to quality and innovation ensures that every guest experiences cuttingedge design and comfort.
A Unique Stay at ÖÖD Hekla Horizon
Hekla Horizon is designed to offer unparalleled luxury while blending seamlessly with the rugged Icelandic landscape. The site consists of: n Seven Mirror Houses with nine bedrooms in total.
n Three Signature Mirror Houses, providing the classic ÖÖD experience.
n Two Extended Mirror Houses, featuring extra space and set to launch in the U.S. in March.
n Two Big Monoliths, nearly twice the size of standard units, designed for families or small groups. These will launch in Europe in January and in the U.S. in May.
n SPA/Northern Light Lounge, a specially designed communal space with a transparent glass structure for perfect Northern Light viewing.
n A Reception House, serving as the operational hub.
To elevate the experience further, the two extended houses include a private sauna and hot tub, while the Big Monoliths feature private saunas. The shared SPA lounge is equipped with a larger sauna and hot tub for all guests to enjoy, making it an ideal retreat after a day of adventure.
Harmonizing with Nature and Culture
At the heart of ÖÖD Hekla Horizon is a commitment to sustainability and integration with Iceland’s natural beauty. The ÖÖD signature mirror design allows the structures to reflect and blend into their surroundings, whether it’s the volcano on the horizon, the shimmering Northern Lights, or the endless summer sun.
The site’s layout takes advantage of natural elevations to create privacy while maximizing views. Locally sourced materials, including lava stones and moss, enhance the authenticity of the landscape. Once the ground thaws, moss will be carefully placed to further enrich the Icelandic atmosphere.
A key aspect of cultural integration comes from the collaboration with local partners, Arnar and Ingibjorg Jakobsdottir. Their deep knowledge of Iceland’s environment and culture ensures that guests receive the most authentic experience possible, from navigating local attractions to understanding the land’s rich history.
Adventures Tailored to Every Traveler
Guests at Hekla Horizon are encouraged to explore the stunning surroundings at their own pace. The site’s prime location provides access to:
n Waterfalls and geysers, some of Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders.
n The famous Reynisfjara black beach, an awe-inspiring coastal landscape.
n Hiking trails, perfect for those seeking adventure.
n Horseback riding on Iceland’s legendary horses.
Rather than overwhelming guests with scheduled activities, Hekla Horizon promotes independent exploration, allowing visitors to craft their own adventure.
Challenges of Building in Iceland’s Harsh Climate
Building a luxury glamping site in Iceland comes with its fair share of obstacles, the most formidable being the weather. The team braved extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping as low as -15°C and strong winds making construction particularly challenging. However, their expertise in building glamping sites across the globe—from Northern Norway to Ghana—ensured that no obstacle was insurmountable.
Logistically, careful planning was required to minimize environmental impact. The infrastructure was developed in phases, ensuring a seamless integration with the natural surroundings. The prefabricated mirror houses, built in Estonia, were shipped and installed on-site with minimal disturbance, preserving the pristine landscape.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is at the core of ÖÖD Hekla Horizon’s philosophy. The guiding principle is to change as little as possible. The design utilizes natural elements—elevations, plants, rocks—to create a seamless blend with the environment. By relying on offsite construction and prefabricated units, on-site disruption was kept to a minimum, preserving Iceland’s delicate ecosystem.
The Future of ÖÖD Hekla Horizon
The primary goal remains simple: to provide guests with an unforgettable Icelandic experience. While Hekla Horizon will remain as it is, the team has ambitious plans for future developments.
One of the most exciting upcoming projects is a new glamping site in Northeast Iceland, set to open in 2025. This location, one of the most remote the company has ever developed, is pending final permits. Beyond Iceland, ÖÖD sites are expanding globally, with scheduled openings in Scotland, Texas (near Austin), Tuscany, Latvia, Wales, and the Netherlands.
A Landmark in Glamping and Tourism
ÖÖD Hekla Horizon is set to redefine glamping in Iceland. Unlike traditional cabin-based stays, the site’s unique architectural design, thoughtful layout, and premium amenities set it apart. It is poised to become a standout attraction not only in Iceland but across the European glamping market.
Moreover, glamping sites like Hekla Horizon contribute significantly to local tourism. Unlike traditional hotels that often keep guests on-site, glamping experiences encourage travelers to explore nearby attractions, dine at local restaurants, and engage with local tour operators, creating a positive economic impact.
With a foundation built on sustainability, innovation, and cultural authenticity, ÖÖD Hekla Horizon is more than just a glamping site—it’s an invitation to experience the untamed beauty of Iceland in an unforgettable way.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, GLAMPING
The UK’s dystopian glamping adventure
By Vicki Jones, Co-Founder Tractors and Cream
When Dom and Nicky Ackland-Snow left their high-profile careers in film and TV to start a glamping site, they knew they had to create something extraordinary. Enter Lights, Camera, Glamping—the UK’s first fully immersive glamping experience.
Today’s guests are spoiled for choice when it comes to unique getaways, but have you ever imagined booking a holiday in a post-nuclear dystopia that transports you to a 1970s dieselpunk festival? Neither had I… until now.
Dom and Nicky have drawn on their family’s deep roots in the film and TV industry to craft something that so far hasn’t been seen in the glamping industry. They’ve combined the wonder of a film set with the comforts of glamping, creating a sensory, story-driven experience. Whether you’re reliving the grungy magic of a bygone Glastonbury Festival or navigating the eerie aftermath of a fictional nuclear fallout, this site blurs the lines between fantasy and reality.
The Creative Couple
Dom began his journey in 1986, crafting sets for iconic 80s and 90s TV shows. With a childhood spent exploring film studios alongside his father, an Art Director, Dom’s passion for storytelling was ignited early—he even appeared on-screen in The Deep in
The Pacific.
The couple moved to Australia, where Dom led high-profile projects, including Sydney Museum installations and Sea World stunt shows. Returning to the UK in 2011, they launched Stringybark Creative, a creative construction company serving film, TV, and events.
Nicky, with a First-Class Degree in Sustainable Planning, complements Dom’s expertise, advancing from Construction Coordinator to Manager within Stringybark Creative. Together, they seamlessly blend their talents to create innovative, immersive spaces.
From Hollywood to the Countryside
I visited Lights, Camera, Glamping the day after their first guests checked out, and I was blown away. This isn’t your average glamping retreat: it’s a living, breathing film set where every detail tells a story.
For this particular project, Dom and Nicky’s journey began on the set of Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The set was near Amersham, just outside London, and they happened to strike up a conversation with the local landowner, who happened to have 600 acres of stunning countryside and woodland. Nicky had long dreamed of creating a film setthemed Airbnb, so the couple floated the idea of using part of the land for a glamping site.
Fast forward to 2024, and the first of what could eventually be three themed units is complete. Plans are already underway for a Mamma Mia! themed unit and a sci-fi inspired retreat in the coming years.
Inside the Experience
The site currently features two customdesigned pods, built entirely by Dom and Nicky. They wanted to create something truly original, far removed from standard pod designs. The pods have a really unique angled front and rounded back and are clad in polished metal – only a polished metal cladding didn’t go with their post-apocalyptic theme! So the family meticulously distressed the metal to look old and worn. Dom was particularly proud to show me the beautiful round windows he had put in the pods which opened on a pivot. His years of set design and master carpentry really gave him the skills to create something visually stunning.
One pod houses a cosy bedroom with an en-suite shower, while the other boasts a retro 1970s kitchen and living room. But the pièce de résistance is their converted VW campervan—a 1970s disco-themed lounge, carpeted from floor to ceiling, complete with a vintage record player, old-school TV, and rotary phone. The outdoor deck includes a wood-fired hot tub and a shuffleboard table, all set beneath a glittering disco ball clad ceiling.
“Most of the items here are new, but we’ve made them look old,” Dom explained. One standout feature is a distressed Glastonbury Festival metal poster—aged to perfection after their kids took an air rifle to it!
Their children also play a key role in bringing the project to life. Their daughter, a scenic painter, created the hand-painted signage, including a decorative drum kit dubbed “The Love Drum.” I particularly love their “Water is Scarce Nuked” sign! Their son handles photography and concept design, making this a true family affair.
Why Diesel Punk?
I asked Nicky why they chose 1970s diesel punk as their first theme.
“We loved the Mad Max vibe, and diesel punk felt like a good first theme. It’s such a visually striking style, and we wanted to challenge ourselves with something complex and heavy in design.”
Despite being new to the glamping world, Dom and Nicky have meticulously planned every detail to ensure their guests have an unforgettable stay. “We’re the kind of people who go above and beyond,” Nicky said, and it shows. The beauty of the space is that they can welcome families, couples or friend groups and the feedback they have had from their initial guests has been excellent.
Pricing
Setting the right price, especially when it’s a one-of-a-kind experience, can be a challenge. For Dom and Nicky, transparency was key. Dom insisted on an all-inclusive approach: unlimited logs for the hot tub, breakfast provisions, and no hidden charges. This, combined with the uniqueness of their offering, allows them to confidently command a premium rate.
They’ve launched their immersive glamping unit at £350 per night, accommodating up to four guests, and at the time of writing, has no minimum stay. Currently listed on Airbnb, they’re also aiming for a coveted spot on the platform’s OMG! category—a perfect match for their extraordinary creation.
Beyond Glamping
Their ambitions don’t stop at this site. The pods are designed to be easily transportable— three can fit on an articulated lorry—making them perfect for festivals. In fact, Glastonbury Festival has already approached the couple to create an entire themed street of pods.
They’re also venturing into design for other glamping sites. A new site in Scotland has commissioned them to create four whiskybarrel-themed pods, set to debut later this year. Similar to the vibe of that of the Statesmen in the film Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the whole of the outside perimeter of the pods will be clad in whisky barrelsperfect for Scottish whisky country!
The couple would also love to help other glamping sites create new and innovative film set themed spaces, which in this saturated market could be a fantastic opportunity to stand out from the competition.
With their creativity, craftsmanship, and can-do spirit, Dom and Nicky aren’t just building a glamping site—they’re reimagining the very concept of immersive hospitality. I’ve no doubt that we will see more of them as the glamping industry shifts and morphs more into experiential travel.
EMBRACE THE HEAT
The sauna trend is hotting up
The integration of saunas into glamping sites is a burgeoning trend that aligns with the rising demand for wellness tourism and luxury outdoor experiences. As travellers increasingly seek unique and health-focused accommodations, glamping businesses can enhance their offerings by incorporating wellness amenities, notably saunas, to attract a discerning clientele.
Why the Wellness Trend is on the Rise
The rise of wellness tourism can be attributed to shifting consumer priorities toward health, mindfulness, and self-care. In today’s fastpaced and digitally connected world, guests are seeking escapes that allow them to unplug,
recharge, and reconnect with themselves and nature. According to a 2023 McKinsey report, over 50% of global consumers now prioritise wellness in their daily lives, with spending on wellness products and services growing by 10% annually. Canopy and Stars’ 2025 Market Report revealed that searches on its website related to “saunas” increased by 1505% in 2024, when compared to the previous year.
This reflects a broader societal shift toward proactive health management, making wellness-focused amenities like saunas an essential offering in the hospitality industry.
The Appeal of Saunas Incorporating saunas into glamping sites
offers several benefits that cater to current guest preferences:
n Enhanced Guest Experience: Saunas provide a luxurious touch, allowing guests to unwind and rejuvenate, thereby elevating their overall stay.
n Health and Wellness Benefits: Regular sauna use is associated with stress reduction, improved circulation, and detoxification, aligning with the wellness goals of many travellers.
n Increased Revenue Potential: Offering premium amenities like saunas can justify higher nightly rates. For instance, Backcountry Recreation reports that adding outdoor saunas and hot tubs can boost nightly rates between 2530%, leading to a significant revenue increase.
Key Considerations of Saunas
Incorporating saunas into glamping sites can elevate the guest experience, but careful planning and execution are essential. Here are the key things to consider:
n Space and Placement: The location of the sauna is crucial. It should be easily accessible yet private enough to create a sense of exclusivity for guests. Placing saunas near scenic viewpoints, such as lakes or forests, enhances the overall experience. Proximity to amenities should also be factored into the planning.
n Type and Size of Saunas: Business owners need to determine the most suitable sauna type for their site. Barrel saunas, cube saunas, or panoramic saunas each have unique benefits and fit different spaces and aesthetics. The sauna size should match the average group size of the guests and consider whether families or couples are the primary clientele. Larger saunas may be necessary for group bookings, while smaller, cosier designs may appeal to couples.
n Energy Efficiency and Sustainability:
Sustainability is a growing priority for many guests. Selecting eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient heating options, such as
wood-fired or electric infrared heaters, is important. You could also consider using renewable energy sources, like solar power, to operate the sauna.
n Health and Safety Compliance: Ensuring guest safety is a top priority. Saunas must meet local health and safety standards, including proper ventilation, fire safety measures (especially for wood-fired saunas), and slipresistant flooring. Clear instructions for sauna use and maximum occupancy limits should be provided to guests to minimise risks.
n Maintenance and Cleaning: Regular maintenance and thorough cleaning are essential to keep saunas hygienic and in good working order. Business owners should invest in durable materials that can withstand wear and tear and create a cleaning schedule to ensure the sauna is spotless for each guest.
n Pricing and ROI: Adding a sauna is an investment, so glamping owners must calculate the cost versus the potential return. Saunas can justify higher nightly rates, especially if marketed as part of a luxury wellness experience. Promotions or packages that highlight the sauna as a premium feature can attract guests seeking unique wellness stays.
n Guest Education and Marketing: Some guests may be unfamiliar with sauna culture or its health benefits. Providing information on proper sauna use and its wellness advantages can encourage them to try it out. Highlighting the sauna in marketing materials, including photos of scenic sauna setups or testimonials from satisfied guests, can help draw in wellness-focused guests.
n Integration with Other Amenities: Saunas work well when paired with complementary amenities, such as wild swimming areas, hot tubs, outdoor showers, or relaxation decks. Providing additional facilities, like towel racks, robes, or cold plunge pools, can enhance the experience and make the sauna offering feel more luxurious.
By considering these factors, glamping business owners can create a sauna experience that not only enhances guest satisfaction but also boosts revenue and strengthens theirs as a wellness-focused destination.
Wild Swimming and Saunas: A Perfect Pairing
Wild swimming—the practice of swimming in natural bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, or the sea—has become a popular wellness activity in recent years. Much like saunas, wild swimming offers numerous health benefits, including boosting circulation, reducing stress, and improving mental clarity. When paired together, wild swimming and saunas create a holistic and invigorating experience. The contrast between the cold water of wild swimming and the heat of a sauna stimulates the body’s cardiovascular system, improves blood flow, and enhances endorphin release, leaving participants feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
This pairing is rooted in Nordic traditions, where alternating between icy dips and sauna sessions has been a cultural practice for centuries. Glamping sites that offer access to natural swimming spots alongside saunas are uniquely positioned to tap into this trend. By integrating these complementary activities, they can provide guests with a wellness experience that combines adventure, relaxation, and a deep connection to nature.
The integration of saunas into glamping sites represents a strategic response to the growing demand for wellness-focused travel experiences. By enhancing guest satisfaction and potentially increasing revenue, saunas serve as a valuable addition to the glamping industry. As wellness tourism continues to expand, glamping businesses that incorporate such amenities are well positioned to attract and retain health conscious guests seeking unique and restorative stays.
Woodpecker’s
SAUNA INSIGHTS
We asked Andy Daniels, Founder of Woodpecker Tubs, to tell us more about the benefits of saunas, what products they offer, and how they can be a great addition to your glamping site.
Having a sauna at your glamping site is always a great value-added proposition for those looking to grow their business and attract more visitors yearround. Whether you have one sauna or several depends on your budget and the type of outdoor experiences you want to provide for your guests’ moments of luxury.
At Woodpecker, we strive to deliver handcrafted, bespoke, and custom-made saunas to meet all of our customers’ needs. These products offer numerous benefits, including stress relief, improved circulation, and essential detoxification, along with enhanced skin health. In the current climate, these advantages are always a bonus.
In addition to these health benefits, saunas also offer opportunities to improve sleep patterns and mental health, helping to break the unhealthy cycle of eat, sleep, work, and repeat that dominates our busy daily lives.
So, why do our saunas meet and exceed our customers’ expectations? The key lies in understanding what the customer truly wants and delivering a product that suits their glamping site requirements.
The success of our sauna business is rooted in attention to detail: using sustainable materials, putting wellness at the forefront, and incorporating technical features like infrared heaters to add that “something different” and enhance the overall experience.
Among our products, the barrel saunas are particularly popular. These come in a range of sizes, from 1m up to 4m, depending on customer needs and the number of people they wish to accommodate. Larger saunas are often required if a woodfired heater is desired within the sauna itself, as this is a standard health and safety requirement.
We are also fortunate to offer a range that includes the cube sauna, a small but sleek design suitable for up to four people, and the larger Oslo sauna, which comfortably accommodates six or more. The Oslo sauna features a panoramic viewing window, allowing guests to enjoy the scenic views at your site.
At Woodpecker, we take pride in everything we produce to support our customers’ wellness experiences. We strive to ensure that each site owner we work with can maximise their outdoor offerings, enabling guests to relax and unwind during their stay.
GLAMPING UNPLUGGED
Your Ultimate Guide to Off-Grid Power
By Portable Power Technology
Let us introduce ourselves: The team at Portable Power Technology are off-grid and mobile energy experts that specialise in the design and supply of offgrid power. We work over many sectors, including commercial vehicles, mobile businesses, emergency vehicles and offgrid buildings––including glamping.
You don’t have to be an expert to understand this article, but we have provided a quick jargon buster below.
Powerpack: A portable all-in-one power system.
Each powerpack includes:
n An inverter (changes DC battery power to
AC usable 3-pin plug power)
n A battery
n A solar controller
n A 3-pin plug socket/s n USBs
Powerpacks are easy to use and maintain but they are limited to the power they can provide and the amount of panels that can be attached; a real plug and play system.
Custom solution: All the elements in a Powerpack listed above, separated into a more scalable system. A system like this can be custom designed for your site but they tend to require more upfront costs. These are typically used for applications with higher power demands.
Power system: We use this general term to talk about whichever system you have providing your power, be it an all-in-one powerpack or custom solution – any system including a battery, inverter and solar array.
Popular Off-Grid Solutions
Knowing what system you need can be a complicated and frustrating process. Some glamping sites run entirely from a small powerpack, while others require large, custom systems—no two sites are the same! We take the time to understand your vision for your business and design
a bespoke solution tailored to your needs. Our system calculations consider factors such as space, weight, location, budget, and, most importantly, the appliances you plan to power. Whether you’re operating a yurt, food truck, or ambulance, your system will be customized for optimal performance.
Key Considerations for Remote Off-Grid Power
Glamping offers guests a chance to reconnect with nature, but remote locations present unique challenges. The farther you are from the grid, the more you’ll rely on self-generated power, carefully monitoring your guests’ power consumption, and balancing luxury with energy efficiency.
Scalable Solutions for Growing Businesses
No one wants to invest in the wrong solution. That’s why our power systems are scalable, allowing you to start small and expand as your site grows. Whether it’s adding more batteries or solar panels or upgrading to larger powerpacks, we’ll help you recalculate the system to ensure it continues to meet your needs.
Reliability and Fail-Safe Options
Reliability is key, especially in remote locations. To ensure consistent power delivery, we build a buffer into every system to handle common issues, such as guests leaving lights on or cloudy days reducing solar output. However, there may be
times that need some element of human intervention. Whether that means having additional powerpacks to quickly swap out, or a small, programmable generator to recharge batteries when solar isn’t enough, there will always be a fail-safe built into any solution we recommend.
Powering Luxury Amenities Off-Grid
Luxury doesn’t have to be sacrificed for an off-grid site, but some adjustments may be necessary to fit your budget; anything can be off-grid but does the cost and space required to power these appliances make sense financially? Or can we be smarter and still have a hot tub but make it wood-fired? By making this simple change you have just taken a massive and expensive draw out of your overall system.
Investment and Cost Savings
The cost of an off-grid system depends on your energy needs. Small powerpacks start at around £150, while a large static custom solution can cost around £4,000 to £6,000 per accommodation.
While these numbers may seem daunting, remember:
n The alternative cost of connecting a remote site to the mains can well exceed £100,000.
n Once set up, your system utilises free energy, costing nothing to run.
We encourage exploring all energy sources to find the best fit for your site.
Success Stories
One of our clients manages cabins across the UK and needed the tools to manage all these sites simultaneously. We evaluated their power needs for each site and provided tailored solar arrays and 4G-enabled remote monitoring systems. Now, they can oversee energy collection, storage, and usage across all sites from a single app, significantly streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
Supporting Environmental Goals
Incorporating solar power helps your site operate more efficiently and reduces its environmental footprint. Whilst a site’s green credentials may help with any planning applications, this is down to the individual councils.
One thing that is for certain: utilising solar as much as possible will help your site be efficient and energy conscious––thereby helping the planet.

Wellness and Transformational Travel
Glamping is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the growing trend of wellness travel, which has shifted from simple spa treatments to holistic, transformational experiences. Travellers now seek mind-body-soul renewal, and technology plays a vital role in delivering these offerings.
For example, some resorts use guest data collected during booking to design tailored wellness programmes. These might include:
n Sleep optimisation plans that use technology to monitor sleep patterns and suggest improvements.
n Digital detox experiences that encourage guests to disconnect from their devices and reconnect with nature.
n Personalised wellness itineraries, including yoga, guided meditation, or dietary plans.
Resorts are also leveraging AI and data insights to integrate wellness with cultural experiences. Guests can participate in local rituals, such as forest bathing or stargazing under certified Dark Sky areas, offering both rejuvenation and a deeper connection to the environment.
The Road Ahead: A High-Tech, High-Impact Future
As AI and technology continue to evolve, the glamping sector is poised for incredible growth. By integrating smart systems, immersive experiences, and sustainable practices, operators can not only meet the expectations of modern travellers but exceed them.
In the next decade, technology will drive the sector toward a future that is more efficient, sustainable, and guest-focused than ever before. Glamping will not just be about staying in nature—it will be about living in harmony with it, supported by technology that makes luxury feel effortless and responsible.
The future of glamping is personal, purposeful, and powered by innovation. The only limit? The imagination of those creating it.
THE AI MARKETING REVOLUTION
International Glamping Business
asked expert Kenny Ridgell, Founder & CEO of Ridge Media LLC, a U.S.based digital marketing agency, to share his top strategies for leveraging AI and technology to maximise success in the glamping and outdoor hospitality industry.
Outdoor hospitality businesses are renowned for their commitment to sustainability, from energy-efficient architecture to locallysourced cuisine. But how can they extend this ethos to their marketing efforts? Can luxury and sustainability coexist in the world of advertising while maximising ROI?
Kenny Ridgell offers a clear answer: “The key lies in artificial intelligence. AI not only enhances operational efficiency but also aligns perfectly with the sustainability goals of modern luxury resorts.”
Streamlining Operations Through AI
AI-powered tools are transforming how businesses manage marketing operations. By automating routine tasks like email marketing, social media scheduling, and customer service, you can reduce both time and energy consumption.
“Automation eliminates the manual backand-forth of traditional marketing,” says Ridgell. “It’s a win-win for efficiency and sustainability, allowing businesses to redirect their focus on creating exceptional guest experiences.”
AI doesn’t stop there. It can analyse vast amounts of data to uncover trends, predict demand, and optimise campaigns. This datadriven approach ensures that every marketing dollar is used effectively. “With AI, we can eliminate guesswork. Every decision becomes a calculated step toward success,” Ridgell explains.
A New Era of Influencer Marketing Traditional influencer marketing often involves high costs and can sometimes miss the mark on authenticity. AI offers a smarter alternative by identifying and engaging with individuals who already share genuine content about the brand.
“Instead of paying influencers, let’s create a community,” Ridgell suggests. “AI helps us find those who naturally align with our values, fostering organic relationships that amplify our message.”

Personalising the Guest Experience
In luxury hospitality, personalisation is key to guest satisfaction. AI can analyse individual preferences to tailor room assignments, dining options, and even activity suggestions.
“Understanding guest behaviour allows us to deliver a level of personalisation that builds loyalty and enhances the overall experience,” says Ridgell. “AI makes this possible on a scale we couldn’t have imagined before.”
Measuring ROI with Precision
Tracking the success of AI-driven strategies is critical, and advanced tools like CallRail and Crazy Egg provide the necessary insights:
n CallRail tracks and analyzes incoming calls, offering insights into customer behavior and campaign effectiveness.
n Crazy Egg evaluates website traffic and user interactions to identify areas for improvement.
“These tools allow us to measure what’s working and where adjustments are needed,” Ridgell explains. “The result is a marketing strategy that evolves intelligently and delivers consistent ROI.”
The Future of Sustainable Luxury
By embracing AI and sustainable practices, outdoor hospitality businesses can elevate their marketing while making a positive impact on the planet.
“Technology and sustainability aren’t opposing forces—they’re allies,” Ridgell emphasises. “By integrating AI into their strategies, resorts can thrive in a way that respects both their guests and the environment.”
The path forward is clear: leverage AI to create smarter, more sustainable marketing strategies that redefine what’s possible in luxury hospitality.
RESNEXUS
Stand-Out Features
Hands down, one of our top features is our intuitive booking engine. Right from the start it beautifully showcases your glamping sites with large photos and descriptions. What’s more is that it doesn’t hide your inventory and allows guests to see your availability by individual sites. You can also maximize occupancy for weekends with our waitlist.
In addition, our online booking engine has sidebars for specials and packages and a mustsee page for add-ons and retail items.
One of my favourite things about the booking engine is that is also provides travel protection if your guests have to cancel unexpectedly last minute.
Streamlining Operations
We provide an affordable and award-winning property management software that allows glamping site operators to manage all their bookings in one place, whether it be over the phone, directly online, or through OTAs like Booking.com, Airbnb or Vrbo. In addition, ResNexus has built-in automatic email communications to increase your guest return rate.
New Features
We have added a Contactless check-in guest portal. The guest can check-in at any time, get the lock code if needed, extend their stay, purchase add-ons, and make payments – all from their smartphone and without having to download an app.
Transforming the Guest and Operator Experience
One way we can transform the whole experience is with Group Bookings. Our software lets you easily manage and organize family, business or wedding groups. ResNexus allows you to send out a custom booking engine link to let the group decide who is in which units, collect all payments, and more. In addition, you can set a time limit so the inventory that is not used becomes available again. It saves so much time for owners because they don’t have to spend so much time on the phone acting as activity coordinator, and the guest loves the convenience.
Personalised Experiences
Our system collects birthday and anniversary dates, which the system sends out as automatic promotions for those dates. Some
Nathan Mayfield, Vice President of ResNexus
properties have seen an average 5% increase in their returning guest rate. ResNexus is one of the only PMS softwares that automatically collects that data from the guest during checkout. In addition, we seamlessly connect with OTAs to make all of your bookings come into one place. And our booking engine has built-in cart abandonment that reminds those that didn’t finish booking to do so.
Focusing on Upcoming
Trends
Revenue management. We are providing improvements and updates to tools that help you determine if you have the right rate and also prevent loss of revenue due to unexpected fluctuations in demand. Recently we have integrated with Pricelabs.
We also now allow properties to book time slots varying from 15 minutes or more for equipment rentals, activities, tours, and more with our new “book anything” capabilities.
Dynamic Pricing
We support many forms of dynamic pricing including expiring minimum nights, automatic yield management and sliding rates. Generally, I recommend that at the very least properties use variable rate pricing for your weekends. I also recommend minimum nights and yield management rules for over 90% occupancy.
Tracking Bookings and Payments
Tracking bookings and payments is simple with ResNexus’ easy-to-use grid or calendar system, providing a clear view of everything happening across all bookings.
TOUCH STAY
Stand-Out Features
Touch Stay has multiple cutting edge features such as AI-generated guidebooks (on the basis of the data provided by the integration partner), content collection for large PM, lead collection within guides, shop (upsell services and items), email and text messaging (to schedule and automate communication), and our AI chatbot which was just released.
Streamlining Operations
Touch Stay’s guides only need to be set up once, making them a time-saving solution for glamping site operators. They help reduce repetitive guest questions by centralising all essential information, such as check-in details, site amenities, and local recommendations, in an easily accessible format. Additionally, they offer opportunities to highlight upsell options like meal kits or tours, improving revenue while keeping operations efficient and stress-free.
New Features
n First impression feature: This addition allows owners to craft a warm, personalised welcome message that guests see as soon as they access their guidebook
n Custom elements: To add unique interactive elements to your guide such as Spotify playlist, AllTrails maps or Google Forms
n Upsell widget: Enables owners to promote additional services directly in the guidebook. n AI Chatbot: To provide instant answers to common guest queries, such as directions, site policies, or local attractions
Smoother Operations
One user recently highlighted their satisfaction with their Touch Stay guidebook by noting its significant impact on their glamping business: “Touch Stay’s digital guide has been a fantastic asset, transforming our guest experience and operations. Not only has it saved us over 16 hours per week on admin work, but it also offers the flexibility to update and adapt content instantly—keeping information current with the tap of a button.”
Guests frequently point out the guidebook as a key reason for their booking, appreciating the easy access to all necessary information. This streamlined communication and detailed presentation have led to smoother site operations and more 5-star reviews from travellers.
Personalised Experiences
Site owners can incorporate branding elements such as logos, colours, and personalised messages, ensuring the guide feels like an extension of the glamping site’s atmosphere and ethos. Embedding videos within the guide adds another layer of

engagement to showcase welcome messages, property tours, or tips for enjoying the local area. These videos create a personal connection and help guests feel more informed and excited about their stay.
The guide can also act as a seamless extension of the glamping site team, offering guests 24/7 access to essential information. This reduces the team’s workload while maintaining a high level of guest support and interaction, making every stay feel thoughtfully tailored and professionally managed.
Focusing on Upcoming Trends
Touch Stay is embracing AI technology to transform the guest and owner experience while maintaining the all-important human touch that makes glamping so special. The site operators won’t be left behind as this technology will help them create quicker and more creative guides.
For Every Size
Touch Stay is designed to support glamping operators of all sizes, from small independent sites to large-scale parks. We believe every guest deserves a top-quality experience, which is why our pricing is tiered to suit your specific needs and budget. We also support an ever growing number of PMS in order to facilitate the check-in process and the population of guides
