WELCOME

TO EVERY ONE EVERY DAY What an amazing Summer we’ve all just had together! People across the borough are now in business together, meeting in shops to share ideas and enjoy each others company, kids are playing and picking up new skills, neighbours are connecting, bees are buzzing, chickens are clucking, plants are being harvested and flowers are growing. The Makerspace has transformed and over 200 residents have been introduced to the Warehouse and machines, ready to start collaborating, co-working and developing new skills!! The Autumn Programme focuses on making -- all the things we do together to make our borough a great place. From cooking meals together, to making things together, to trading knowledge and skills. Are you ready for baking, cooking, creating, fixing, reading, playing, good conversation, painting, building, planting, sewing, sharing, making, talking, repairing and so much more?

We’re an organisation working to make it easier for everyone to participate in making their community a better place to live, work, be young, grow older and have fun. There are so many projects to get involved with that have been co-created with residents, and we are sure you will be inspired by the range of ideas, as well as the energy being shown by the amazing people living and working in Barking and Dagenham.

We’re having another festival at The Warehouse! Did you make it last year? Local residents, organisations and people from across the UK are coming together again for We Make Our City festival a day of inspirational talks, skill sharing, networking and practical workshops! Contact your local Neighbourhood Team if you would like to get involved!

In each of these activities, we build friendships, practice healthy living, make places more beautiful, and more. As the borough grows and changes in the upcoming years, how do you want to participate in shaping the borough? What are your ideas and ambitions for your neighbourhoods?

How does Every One Every Day work? Practical hands on ideas – not lots of meetings

Support for getting things going – no complicated processes

Every One Every Day builds on the ‘hands on’ projects that people have been creating over the last few years in their own neighbourhoods. These types of projects welcome people from all walks of life.

We welcome you to suggest ideas you would like to grow together with friends and neighbours. This project will give the support you need to bring you ideas to life quickly.

These projects include: The team will make things very simple - including: • Find you useful spaces for the projects (kitchens, workshops storage spaces etc.)

• Sharing skills, spaces and resources. • Families working and playing together. • Batch cooking and community meals.

• Supplying materials and equipment for practical activities - no form filling for grants.

• Food growing and tree planting.

• By arranging insurances and health and safety.

• Trading, making and repairing.

• Holding festivals, workshops and business programmes.

What is Every One Every Day is about?

We have four high street shops around the borough and one large public makerspace called The Warehouse in Thames.

People pop in to have a cup of tea and share their project or collaborative business idea, working with the design team to bring new ideas for the borough to life.

Over the last 18 months the project has grown a large enthusiastic network of over 5000 local people, who are doing practical things together to make everyday life better for everyone.

So far more than 100 neighbourhood projects have started with lots of local people participating, with as much or as little support as needed, including cooking, beekeeping, growing, making, repairing and much more.

Many small things done by many people really add up, and really do make friendly, healthy and happy neighbourhoods.

Lots of wonderful things are being achieved by local people, families, friends and neighbours!

FABRIC STUDIO

The Warehouse is a place for everyone; one of the biggest shared workshops (also known as a makerspace or hackerspace) of its kind in Europe, open exclusively for residents of Barking and Dagenham. This Autumn we will have many programmed activities, training, business programmes, or you can simply pop in for a cup of tea and use the co-working space or visit the garden.

What is a makerspace? It’s a new type of workspace with lots of exciting equipment. The Warehouse will have different types of spaces and machinery, for woodwork, digital design, fashion and fabrics, for cooking in an industrial kitchen, and co-working and event spaces.

Open access

There will be no cost for using the space for Barking and Dagenham residents. Members that come to The Warehouse will be part of looking after the spaces and equipment and sharing skills within the community. They will also be involved in organising how the spaces will be used, giving as much access to as many people as possible.

Build update

The Warehouse has been under construction but is still an active space for residents to use. The work has been drawing to a close over the Summer period and the fabric and co-working areas are now joined by a CNC machine room, digital making area, woodworking area, computer terminals, learning lab (auditorium and workshop area), apiary and a ceramics workshop area!

Porridge Bar gives you the perfect opportunity to explore the Martin’s Corner shop, relax in the space, chat to other people that live locally, and make things together. Each week you are invited to bring a topping for the porridge to share with others, this could be fruit, nuts, seeds or whatever you fancy. Help yourself to porridge and your choice of toppings. Enjoy the company of others and leave feeling thoroughly warm inside. During each session we will experiment with different types of making, from clay to crochet, please bring along your ideas to contribute to the session. The kettle is on and everyone is welcome.

The allotment is situated on land that was once Gale Street Farm - a little bit of unexpected countryside surrounded by flats, houses and a railway line. Breda first became interested in Organic Gardening as a mature student studying for a degree in environmental sciences. She set up the Gale St Organic Co-op in Becontree and is keen to produce good quality food and cultivate healthy soil. Breda believes organic growing is a win-win; important for healthy people and places but also a great way to connect with nature and wildlife. Would you like to learn about growing organic fruit and vegetables? Roll up your sleeves and be a part of this community allotment project.

Whether you are brand new to gardening or an old hand, this is a space for people of all ages, to play and learn how to grow, maintain and harvest delicious fruits and veg. Everyone is invited to share their skills, knowledge, humour, tea-making and digging elbow grease to grow tasty vegetables. Join in to see what you and your neighbours can achieve.
