The origins of Halloween and the astrological events of 31st october 2018 Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated each year on October 31st. This year Halloween occurs on a Wednesday. Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Samhain is a festival that celebrates the end of the harvest season, and the beginning of winter, also known as ‘the darker part’ of the year. Traditionally this is celebrated on October 31st as it is about halfway between the autumn Equinox and the winter Solstice, based upon the Julian calendar.
Samhain is believed to have Celtic pagan origins and there is evidence it has been an important date since ancient times. At Beltane, special bonfires were lit. These fires were deemed to have protective and cleansing powers and there were rituals involving them Like Beltane, Samhain was seen as a liminal time, when the boundary between This World and the Otherworld could more easily be crossed. This time of year held the belief that Aos SĂ, the 'spirits' or 'fairies', could more easily come into our world. n the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as a time to honour the saints. Soon, the Christian day of All Saints incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. These days, we may celebrate Halloween as a day of activity, where there is trick or treating, getting creative with pumpkins, costumes and candy! But this is a rich festival with a lot of history tied to its beginnings. There are some important astrological developments on Halloween this year, including the following‌
Mercury Enters Sagittarius The planet of talk and thought Mercury glides into Sagittarius. If we encourage our confidence to grow and our optimism to shine through, we can find exciting ways to succeed. With this transit, it may be important for us to keep an open mind, which includes becoming more tolerant in general, as this ideology can help us to grow. Ideas can be fluid, perhaps also changeable.
Venus opposite Uranus and returns to Libra Venus makes another exact opposition to Uranus and then leaves Scorpio and inverts back into Libra. We may have had somewhat tiresome experiences lately around deeply personal or relationship issues, which have involved some deep soul-searching. But with Venus moving back into her home sign of Libra, we could start to feel like we are moving into a new dawn, with the dark days behind us. Moreover, not only does Venus move back into one of the two signs (the other being Taurus) that she feels most comfortable in, but Venus also rises once more in the sky. Venus makes her entrance as ‘the morning star’ ready to take on a new beginning, and perhaps we will feel just as revitalised to do the same. We may feel more drawn to compromise in order to negotiate with others’. We could even see ourselves becoming more interested in the arts, whether it is the admiration of it or the creation of pieces ourselves. We can develop through acts of fairness, and ensuring that that we share ‘the love’ equally.
Quarter Moon In Leo Also on the 31st we have the last Quarter Moon in Leo. We could potentially find ourselves impressing others’ and receiving praise and even admiration. However, if we do feel the pull into the spotlight, we could end up feeling lost. We could really help ourselves by admitting the things we feel criticised by, or even perhaps the fear of criticism itself. This Quarter Moon in Leo could see us striving to accept feedback, and using it for our self-development, rather than allow it to bring us down. This is probably not the best of times to take risks with resources. In close ties, jealousy and possessiveness can cause issues.
