HAPPINESS

Do you know what I was, how I lived? You know what despair is; then winter should have meaning for you.

How bright… They are unrecognizable the roads of happiness.

I did not expect to survive, earth suppressing me. I didn't expect to waken again, to feel in damp earth my body able to respond again, remembering after so long how to open again in the cold light of earliest spring--

WITHOUT LOVE I look back on your memory without love. SUNNY DAY It’s a bright day. I’m looking forward to meeting you.

afraid, yes, but among you again crying yes risk joy in the raw wind of the new world.

PITY THE NATION Pity the nation whose people are sheep and whose shepherds mislead them Pity the nation whose leaders are liars whose sages are silenced and whose bigots haunt the airwaves Pity the nation that raises not its voice except to praise conquerers and acclaim the bully as hero and aims to rule the world with force and by torture Pity the nation that knows no other language but its own and no other culture but its own Pity the nation whose breath is money and sleeps the sleep of the too well fed Pity the nation oh pity the people who allow their rights to erode and their freedoms to be washed away My country, tears of thee sweet land of liberty

I MAY ASK MYSELF When time is slow and the abyss of the distance erodes our dreams When we stop listening to the commands from the heart avoiding a rhyme with ardent words When silence pierces the soul like a sharp knife I ask myself if our love is forever or if my feelings are just flashes of lightning which comes and goes while time is passing by.
