Jacob was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 10 to 20 years in prison following his conviction on charges of first-degree rape. “What began as an exciting day headed to a new job turned into an absolute nightmare for this young woman who crossed paths with this violent predator,” Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “Thankfully, the DNA recovered that day was used to hold the defendant accountable for this horrific act and bring justice to his victim, who bravely testified against him at trial.” The case was solved through what is known as a “cold hit.” Jacobs’ DNA had been entered into the New York DNA databank following a conviction on federal money laundering charges and matched positively with the DNA sample obtained from the victim’s rape kit back in 1998. The defendant was arrested on October 4, 2013, according to the District Attorney’s office.

Give fathers the human resource capacity to be better dads!
M
illions of people all over the world will be celebrating June 18 as Father's Day, which became official in the United States in 1972. The more popular Mother's Day began a few decades earlier. Father's Day is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for the love and efforts of our fathers. While Father’s Day can be seen as a complement to Mother's Day, the holiday is still struggling to gain popularity and support. As fathers continue to be a no-show in the home, their respect in society is also diminishing at an alarming rate. Traditionally, the father has been the bread-winner of the family while the mother has played the role of the housewife who raises the children. But today, that traditional family model is increasingly becoming less common as both parents
now often work and share the responsibilities of raising their children and taking care of the household. This is especially more prevalent in African American families where some 60 percent of single mothers are head of households. This is even more alarming when one considers the fact that in most cases they are resource-poor and are therefore not able to sufficiently take care of the children. Based on the existing situation, a vast majority of the current generation of African American children has little appreciation for their fathers.
As in the case of other communities, the demonstration of love, affection, and appreciation for fathers are always short in comparison to the love displayed for mothers. Fortunately for our society, Father’s Day is increasingly gaining in popularity as the media and corporate America in recent years give the day more attention with heavy retail promotions of “Dad’s gifts” and other expressions of love for our fathers. At the same time, we want to use this opportunity to remind delinquents and irresponsible men that we cannot build a great nation with absentee fathers.

Several studies confirm that fathers have a role to play in a child’s development and that their presence, or lack thereof, impacts the course of the child’s development. Studies have also consistently shown that paternal warmth, nurturance, and closeness are associated with positive child outcomes even if fathers spend less time with their children than the mothers. While we celebrate the good fathers among us, we also need to better understand the issues facing the “dads that don’t seem to care about their children.” These fathers in our community need help in building their human resource capacity to provide them with the tools to be better dads. _____________________ Patrick Maitland patrick@streethype.net

Mount Vernon Sex Offender Convicted
MOUNT VERNON: ames Brower, 35 of 45 Park Avenue, Mount Vernon was convicted on June 1, 2017 after a jury trial conducted by Judge Susan Cacace of: one count of Burglary in the Second Degree as a Sexually Motivated Felony, a class “C” Felony, one count of Forcible Touching, a class “A” Misdemeanor, and one count of Stalking in the Third Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor. According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. on or James Brower, 35 about Oct. 12, 2016 at approximately 3 p.m. in the vicinity of West 3rd Street and South 11th Avenue in Mount Vernon, the defendant accosted a female victim who was walking to a nearby deli, made sexually charged statements that placed her in fear he would subject her to unwanted contact. When the victim attempted to ignore the defendant and continue on her way, the defendant followed the victim, repeated his sexual advance and forcibly slapped her buttocks. Fearful that defendant would follow through on his continued threats of sexual advances, the victim fled to the safety of her home where she reported the assault to her husband. During her disclosures, the homeowners were startled to discover the defendant had pursued the victim into their home and threshold of her bedroom. Upon seeing the victim’s husband, however, the defendant fled the scene with the husband in pursuit who also called 911. The defendant was apprehended shortly thereafter by members of the Mount Vernon Police Department, who responded quickly and efficiently to the homeowners call for aid. He will be sentenced on Aug. 15, 2017.
The defendant, as a second violent felony offender, faces up to 15 years in state prison and 20 years post-release supervision. .
Bronx man has been sentenced to consecutive terms totaling seven to 14 years in prison for robbing an 81-year-old woman he threatened to cut with a razor blade in her apartment building elevator. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said the defendant, Homer Griffin, 51, of Grand Concourse, was sentenced June 1 to two consecutive terms of 3 1⁄2 to seven years in prison by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Steven Hornstein. Griffin pleaded guilty to third-degree Robbery and third- degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon on March 31, 2017. According to the investigation, on the afternoon of March 3, 2017, in the area of Grand Concourse and Marcy Place, Griffin followed the victim as she stepped into her apartment building elevator. He then pretended to help her exit the elevator before holding a blade to her face and telling her, “I want the money, give me the money. I’m going to cut you.” Griffin fled with $200. District Attorney Clark said, “It is hard to fathom that someone could terrorize an elderly person. The victim continues to work through the trauma of the incident and struggles to leave her apartment. We hope this sentence provides her with justice and some sense of security that he will be behind bars.” The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cassidy Crough of Trial Bureau 20 under the supervision of Meredith Holtzman, Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 20 and the overall supervision of Nicole Keary, Deputy Chief of the Trial Division and Jeremy Shockett, Chief of the Trial Division.

amaican American Dr Ann-Marie Adams is to run for office to represent Connecticut under the banner of the Democratic Party in the 2018 election for the Senate in the United States. “I’m really excited about being recruited to run for office because, if you check from Canada to Miami, you’ll find that there are no black immigrants in office, except for New York or Miami, in the Florida area; and very few Jamaican Americans are in politics. There are none in Connecticut,” she told the Jamaica Observer. “At first I was hesitant, because I am used to covering politicians, not running for office. I didn’t think about it, it didn’t dawn on me to run for office until they were doing a background check for a media pass for the White House,” Adams, a journalist, pointed out. “So after two years of looking at my credentials and my accomplishments over the last two decades, I’m very, very confident that I have a good chance to run and win.” Born and raised in Jamaica, Adams emigrated to the US after completing her secondary education at St Hugh’s High School for Girls. She moved to Hartford in the state where she furthered her education at Brooklyn College.
Jamaican Sentenced In Lottery Fraud Scheme
A
FORT LAUDERDALE: South Florida man was sentenced on Friday to prison in connection with the operation of a Jamaican-based fraudulent lottery scheme. Claude Shaw, 49, of Miramar, Florida, was sentenced to serve 36 months in prison and three years supervised release by US District Court Judge William P. Dimitrouleas in Fort Lauderdale. Shaw was also ordered to pay $128,440 in restitution. Shaw pleaded guilty on March 22, to one count of mail fraud in the Southern District of Florida. As part of his guilty plea, Shaw acknowledged that, from in or around September 2013, through in or around August 20l5, he participated in a scheme to defraud victims in the United States and unlawfully enrich himself. “Today’s sentencing demonstrates the Justice Department’s commitment to combating foreign-based lottery fraud schemes targeting individuals in the United States,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad A. Readler of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “Financial schemes designed to defraud unsuspecting victims will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” As part of the scheme, victims throughout the United States received telephone calls in which they were falsely informed that they had won over $1 million in a lottery and needed to pay money in advance to claim their winnings.

“It was joyful for me growing up in Jamaica. I also grew up in Spanish Town, St Catherine, off Walks Road. I went to St John’s Primary. Growing up in Jamaica meant a lot, that’s why I come back as often as I can. And I wanted to start my campaign here, meeting with well-wishers from school and people I really know,” Adams, who also lived in Kingston 5, said.
“My education was sound here, so I’m very grateful for that, especially at St John’s, where they put me into spelling bee, and speech festival, and Girl Guides-and all of that was a joyous experience. I recognise that I had a privileged experience growing up here and going to St Hugh’s, so I wanted to give back in some sort of way,” she continued. Though she migrated aeons ago, Adams emphasised her love for Jamaica and noted that her hope is to encourage other Jamaicans and Caribbean nationals to run for office. Pointing out that Connecticut has the third-largest West Indian population in the US, Adams cited her similarities with what she described as a marginalized group. “Connecticut’s congressional delegation is largely white and male. Now they’re looking to diversify that…hence people have recruited me. The impact you will have is that you will have someone like me representing more Connecticut residents because of my ethnic background — I’m Irish and Spanish. My married name is what I’m using but my maiden name is Mesquito. That’s from Honduras, my father’s ethnic background, so people are seeing me representing more Connecticut residents,” she said.

Jamaica on the verge of visitor arrivals history

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica: ith earnings for the first four months of this year at an all-time high of over US$1 billion, or a 6.5 percent increase over last year, minister of tourism, Edmund Bartlett announced on Sunday that Jamaica’s Edmund Bartlett tourism industry is head- Jamaican Minister of Tourism ing for a historic one million visitors before the end of this month. “We are closing in on the first half of 2017 and we ended the month of May with a record 8.7 percent increase in stop-overs over the same month last year,” said Bartlett. The 971,000 passengers brought in was just 30,000 shy of the first million target which, he said, will be reached by mid-June “and when that happens it will be a record because it will be the first time in our history that we will make a million visitors before the end of June.” He was speaking at an official welcome event for the inauguration of Southwest Airlines newest service, non-stop flights from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. This brings to four the number of US gateways being operated by Southwest to Jamaica since commencing international flights there in 2014. Bartlett said his ministry and its agencies were working diligently to provide a product and a service that both meets and exceed the expectations of Jamaica’s visitors and tourism partners. He said steps are being taken to ensure the availability of first-class accommodation as well as a safe, secure and seamless visitor experience, noting that destination assurance was crucial ensuring sustained growth. ———————-

HIV infections increase in the Caribbean, UN study reveals
A
By Caribbean Media Alliance s the Caribbean prepared to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Regional Testing Day for HIV on Friday, June 30th the need for testing was underscored against the background of worrying statistics from the United Nations. United Nations Special Envoy on HIV to the Caribbean, Dr. Edward Greene, says findings in the 2016 UNAIDS Gap report state that HIV infections are on the rise in the region. He said that while the major increases have occurred in Cuba and Jamaica, the greatest area of alarm is the fact that progress in stopping new infections has stalled among adults, and HIV infections are increasing among older groups. In some countries, he says “One of my colleagues has flippantly referred to this as the ‘Viagra Effect”. Dr. Greene, who was speaking at the recent Regional Testing Day 10th Anniversary Caribbean Launch Breakfast and Awards in Bridgetown, Barbados, lamented the fact that after ten years of decline in the prevalence rate, the Caribbean has witnessed a 9 percent overall increase in new HIV infections. “This is shamefully second the Eastern Europe and Central Asia,” he said. The United Nations Special Envoy on HIV to the Caribbean says that prevalence rates in the region vary from 1 point 8 percent of the population living with AIDS in Haiti, and 1 point 6 in Jamaica to approximately 1 percent, and lower in Barbados and the OECS countries. He pointed out that less than 50 percent of the people in the region living with AIDS are receiving treatment. Cuba has the highest coverage with 67 percent and Jamaica the
UN Special Envoy on HIV to the Caribbean Dr. Eddie Greene speaking at the recent 10th Anniversary Media launch of Regional Testing Day in Bridgetown, Barbados.
lowest with 32 percent coverage. It is estimated that only 2 out of every 5 persons in the region know their status. Dr. Eddie Greene said the region is facing a conspiracy of complacency because, while there has been great success in reducing the number of HIV AIDS-related infections and deaths, as well as the increase in the numbers of persons receiving treatment, infections are increasing. He said possible reasons for this complacency are reduced funding from donor agencies, a falloff in governmental support and a lack of adherence to treatment, which can all lead to serious reversals in the gains already made in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

WASHINGTON: s the serial clustercovfefe of the Trump presidency pursues its singular objective of making America great again by alienating, and isolating the US from the rest of the world – in other words, becoming North Korea except with nuclear missiles that might actually work – Cuba has reaffirmed its commitment to socialism, which of course includes universal health care and free education for all, something that is beyond the grasp of the wealthiest country in the history of the planet. In Havana on Thursday, Cuban President Raúl Castro said that policy documents approved by the Central Committee are programmatic foundations that reaffirm the socialist character of the Cuban revolution, which of course was not the case initially, since the Cuban revolution did not start out as communist or even socialist in nature but was a grassroots response to the abusive autocracy of the then dictator Fulgencio Batista, culminating in his overthrow in January 1959. On 15 April 1959, the revolutionary leader Fidel Castro began an 11-day visit to the United States and he said during his visit: "I know the world thinks of us, we are communists, and of course I have said very clear that we are not communists; very clear."

ST JOHN’S, Antigua: rgentine prosecutors are asking their counterparts in Antigua and Barbuda to share information about accounts at a local bank that was used by Brazilian multinational construction company Odebrecht SA to pay bribes in a massive international corruption scandal. Argentine officials are seeking data from Meinl Bank (Antigua) Ltd, said Anthony Armstrong, Antigua’s director of public prosecutions. The request was made on behalf of a prosecutor investigating potential kickbacks in the construction of an underground railway between Buenos Aires city and the province, Bloomberg News reported. In the largest foreign bribery case in history, Odebrecht, along with a Brazilian petrochemical company, Braskem SA, pleaded guilty last December and agreed to pay a combined total penalty of at least $3.5 billion to resolve charges by authorities in the United States, Brazil and Switzerland arising out of their schemes to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes to government officials around the world.

At present, Grenada does not produce any oil. “Their achievements to date represent the furthest any company conducting petroleum exploration in Grenada has ever reached – and the quest continues, with future prospects in sight,” Mitchell said.

Free legal clinics for Haitians
n response to the Trump Administration’s six-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, Council Member Mathieu Eugene (D40) will offer free legal clinics to Haitians living in the United States with TPS who wish to renew their status. These clinics will take place between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on Friday, June 9th, Thursday, June 15th, and Friday, June 30th at the Council Member Eugene’s District Office, 900 Rogers Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226. Council Member Eugene has partnered with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYALG) and other immigration legal service providers to offer free legal services specifically tailored to the unique situation of Haitian Temporary Protected Status Holders who are required to reregister to maintain their status, TPS holders will be able to consult with an immigration attorney to renew their registration. These events have been organized in response to the Trump Administration’s decision, announced last week, to extend TPS for Haiti only 6 months instead of the expected 18 months. Haiti has been designated Temporary Protected Status, a special humanitarian status for countries recovering from natural disaster, disease, or political upheaval, since a devastating earthquake destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure in 2010. This humanitarian designation is typically extended for 18 months at a time, after which it must be renewed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. There is grave uncertainty about the future of TPS under the Trump Administration, and many doubted that an extension would be granted after the last designation was set to expire this July. Some US Visa Applicants Now Required To Provide Social Media Handles
T
he Donald Trump administration has rolled out a new questionnaire for U.S. visa applicants worldwide that asks for social media handles for the last five years and biographical information going back 15 years. The new questions, part of an effort to tighten vetting of would-be visitors to the United States, was approved on May 23 by the US Office of Management and Budget. According to a Reuters report, critics argue that the new questions will be overly burdensome, lead to long delays in processing and discourage persons from travelling to the United States. Under the new procedures, consular officials can request all prior passport numbers, five years' worth of social media handles, email addresses and phone numbers as well as 15 years of biographical information including addresses, employment and travel history.
A State Department official said representatives will request the additional information when they determine it is required to confirm identity or conduct more rigorous national security vetting. The State Department said the tighter vetting would apply to visa applicants who have been determined to warrant additional scrutiny in connection with terrorism or what it described as other national security-related visa ineligibilities.
While the new questions are voluntary, the form says failure to provide the information may delay or prevent the processing of an individual visa application. President Trump has vowed to increase national security and border protections. He has tried to implement a temporary travel ban on people from six Muslim-majority nations that a U.S. appeals court refused to reinstate, calling it discriminatory and setting the stage for a showdown in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Reuters is reporting that immigration lawyers and advocates in the US have raised concerns about the new visa requirements. They stated that the request for 15 years of detailed biographical information, as well as the expectation that applicants provide all their social media handles, will likely catch applicants who make innocent mistakes or do not remember all the information requested.

By Andrew Denney, New York Law Journal o protect immigrants from deportation, Mayor Bill de Blasio should instruct the New York City Police Department to issue civil citations for low-level, nonviolent offenses instead of making arrests, the New York City Bar Association recommended in a letter to de Blasio. Last year, New York City passed a package of laws called the Criminal Justice Reform Act including legislation to allow low-level violations like littering, public urination and drinking in public to be treated as civil, rather than criminal, offenses. In its letter to de Blasio, the city bar also notes that City Council has urged police to issue civil citations whenever possible. But it also notes that issuance of the citations remains discretionary, and that civil citations should be issued in cases

n Saturday (June 3) Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (DRockaway Beach) helped inaugurate the Justin B. Zemser Memorial Tree at Channel View High School, the late MidJustin B. Zemser shipman’s alma mater. The tree was dedicated with a memorial football game. Zemser was a 20-year-old cadet at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland when he headed home for a holiday visit in 2015 on an Amtrak train. The train derailed, killing Zemser and four others. “Justin was a fantastic student, a wonderful young man, and he seemed well on his way to achieving his dream of becoming a NAVY Seal,” said Pheffer Amato. “As a paraprofessional at a nearby school, I knew Justin’s family, and I knew how beloved he was. His death was a tragic and senseless loss for our community. “But Justin’s spirit is still with us,” Pheffer Amato continued, “and I know this memorial will bring comfort to his family and inspire generations of students at Channel View.

About Father’s Day in America
F
ather’s day is celebrated around the world as a day to honor and show love and respect to fathers. Here in the United States we adopted the third Sunday of June for the celebration. The first Father’s day celebration in the US dates back to two stories. The first being about a woman name Sonora Smart Dodd from Washington State, who came up with the idea to celebrate her father William Smart. The inspiration came to her while listening to a sermon about Mother’s Day on 1909. The other story that is associated with the first Father’s Day in America took place on July 5, 1908 in West Virginia. It was Grace Golden Clayton who suggested to her local church minister to host a special service to celebrate fathers after a deadly mine explosion which resulted in 361 men being killed. The celebration later grew popularity throughout the country and in 1972 Father’s Day was later signed into law and made a permanent national holiday by President Richard Nixon. This Father’s day let us take the time to celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds and the many great father figures in our society.
What they say about fatherhood
JUNE 1-18, 2017 • STREET HYPE NEWSPAPER • 11
College Professor and Journalist Michael Wattkis, 53 said fathers should be available to provide protection and advice as well as helping to guide children to the correct partway. “A father must be able to tell if his children are wrong and provide corrective measures to help them to grow and success,” Wattkis added.
Long Island residence and supermarket manager Charles Murphy, 55 says fatherhood and being a father is a "Great responsibility." Murphy said he enjoys being around his family and experiencing the love. The father of two urges other fathers to focus on providing a good education for the kids.
Commanding Officer of the Bronx 47th Precinct, Inspector Ruel Stephenson, 48 says as a father of three, “this is the most important responsibilities and obligations. It is our role to steer and affect the lives of our kids. As a man, it’s spiritual and morally a blessing to be a father.”

Entrepreneur and CEO of the Bronx’s Dumplin Shop, Kerieth Mair, 61 explained that being a father, it is a responsibility that a man should take very seriously. “The children were not asked to be born; therefore it’s our responsibilities to provide everything (from meal to education) for them. We should always set good examples for children to adopt,” Mair said. The father of two infants emphasized, “We must teach the children what is right and don’t assume they know what to do.”
Bronx-based master barber and bus drive Alston Brooks, 40 says it is a very awesome feeling to be a father especially when the kids know you and appreciate for presence. The father of two explains that he taught his children discipline, honesty, and the importance of a good education.
Queen’s entrepreneur Neville Wright, 56 noted that fathers have to be with the children to provide social and financial support. A parent should provide love and attention to the kids. Wright is the father of four adult children. ————— Bronx top-rated chef and CEO of FoodzTo-Go Restaurant George Martin, 44 is very excited about his four children and adds, “I try to be very responsible and take good care of them." ————— “It’s wonderful to be a father. Five Signs It's Time to Fire Your Barber or Stylist 2) Sloppy Work Next time you leave your barber or stylist, when you get home take a good look at the work. Stand in front of your bathroom mirror with a hand mirror and check out the cut. Is the haircut free of visible lines? Are the sideburns and neckline even? Is the outlining clean and crisp? Is everything laying as it should (especially around the crown)? These are all things to look for when spotting a bad haircut.
By David Alexander Men's Hair Expert s the person who cuts your hair serving you well? If you find yourself going to the same barber or stylist just because it's comfortable, you may be selling yourself short. Sometimes, we just need a little nudge in the right direction. If the person who cuts your hair is guilty of sloppy work, bad service, or unsanitary conditions, it may be time to fire your barber or stylist. These are the signs.
1) Unsanitary Conditions I'm a big stickler for cleanliness. On your next visit, look around and observe how sanitary the shop is. Was the floor swept before you sat down? Did your haircutter use a clean comb (as opposed to one already laying on the counter)? Are the operator's clippers or shears free of other client's hair? Did your barber or stylist place a neck strip or clean towel around you neck before putting the cape on you? Did your barber remove the straight razor from a sanitizer rather than using one already laying on the counter? These are a few basic sanitary issues that can clue you in to how well your shop and hair-
cutter are following sanitary regulations. Barbershops and salons can spread diseases and infections such as ringworm, hepatitis, lice, and impetigo (just to name a few) by using improperly sanitized combs, brushes, clippers, and razors. If your answer was "no" to any or all of these questions, fire your barber or stylist.
3) Unfocused Attention While you are receiving service, is your haircutter guilty of talking on the phone, making an appointment for another client, texting, or otherwise not giving you undivided attention? If so, fire your barber or stylist. 4) Consistently Running Behind Certainly, there will be times when your barber or stylist may be running behind on your appointment -- every head and client is different, and there will sometimes be issues that cause delays. That said, most of us behind the chair know our speed and abilities, so instances of running significantly behind
should be rare. If it seems your haircutter is always harried and behind, it may be time to fire your barber or stylist.
5) Lack of Interest When was the last time your barber or stylist suggested a new style or told you about a new product? Does the person cutting your hair seem more interested in talking about his latest drama than he is in listening to you? It is a haircutter's job to listen to you and recommend options haircuts and products that will help you get the most out of your hair and keep you looking your best. Not doing so is just bad service. So, if you are stuck in a rut (at least as far as your hair is concerned), it may be time to fire your barber or stylist. Many of us get stuck going to the same person cut after cut because it's comfortable and we're hesitant to try someone new. Sometimes it's easier to stick to the devil we know than the saint we don't. Doing so may result in us not always looking our best, so if your barber or stylist is guilty of any of the above offenses, take a leap of faith and find a great barber or stylist. You may be glad you did!

Father doesn't make the cut When ex-wife throws party!
18 • STREET HYPE NEWSPAPER • JUNE 1-18, 2017
I
Dear Divine: am a divorced father of a son, 16, and a daughter who is 10. I share joint custody with my wife and spend time with them every week, depending on their schedules. My ex and I get along. When it's time to celebrate one of our kids' events -- birthdays or graduation -- I ask if she wants to have a party for them and she tells me she doesn't, but then my kids ask me why I'm not going to be there! We were married for 16 years, and

I was always there until the divorce, which was her idea. When I ask her about these get-togethers, she says it
was just her family and my kids' friends. How should I handle not being invited to these events? It hurts me that I'm not allowed to be there for them. I am my children's family, too, and so are my parents, brothers and sisters, who would also like to attend. Should I just have a second party and not include their mother? Please tell me the best way to handle this. -Hurt in Harlem
Dear Harlem: Regardless of how civilized your divorce may have been, and how respectfully you and your ex treat each other, perhaps you should accept that she and her family may no longer wish to socialize with you and the former in-laws. Not only would hosting your own party enable you to include whoever you want on the guest list, but I'm sure your kids would be delighted to "double their fun." You have come up with the solution to your own problem. -Good Luck
Tips to Keep Your Man Happy, Faithful, & Satisfied Please send your questions and comments to: divinestreethype@gmail.com
8. Flirt with him: Flirting keeps your passion alive, and it is a vital part of any good relationship. Plan solo dates often, try new things together, and pinch his butt cheeks just for fun. A little sexting never hurts, either.
By Hilary Braaksma 1. Make your partner a priority: Take time often to let your boyfriend or hubby know how special he is to you. We get that life gets super busy; school, jobs, kids, and other commitments often get in the way. Taking time out of your day to send a sweet text or pick up his favorite snack on the way home is a simple way to remind him he’s always on your mind.
2. Respect yourself: Sometimes negligence is the issue, but other times we get too far on the other end of the spectrum. Putting your partner first 24/7 is a great way to burn yourself out and kill the passion in your relationship. Don’t be a doormat, and don’t let yourself go trying to do everything for him. Confidence is attractive, and taking care of yourself is a must.
3. Have body confidence: Expanding on the last point, body confidence is super important to keep the spark alive in any sexual relationship. People change, and so do bodies. If you’ve gained weight since you first met, or you started getting dark chin hairs, or an emergency appendectomy left you with a weird scar, who cares? We guarantee you that decent, worthwhile dudes are not turned off by this. Shutting down your sex life over a few new stretch marks is sure to be a relationship killer.
4. Don’t use sex as a bartering chip: Withholding sex because he didn’t take the garbage out or reserving half-hearted BJs for birthdays is a really bad idea, unless you want your SO to think you consider sex a chore.
5. Keep an open mind: This goes for a lot of things (seriously, just try the restaurant he wants you to try), but we are specifically talking in the bedroom. Everybody has different tastes, and if you want to keep your love life exciting, it’s wise to approach sex with a relaxed, non-judgmental attitude. As long as it doesn’t hurt you or throw your moral compass out of whack, adopt an “I’ll try anything once and twice if I like it” attitude. And if he’s into something you just can’t get down with? Try
super hard not to let him know you think his kink is weird or gross.
6. Trust him: We know rom-coms taught you that men are incompetent horndogs who turn into drooling cavemen around even mildly attractive women, but please remember to respect your partner’s intelligence by not falling for this shit. Do not hound him about his cute coworker, neighbor, or friend. Insecurity is a major boner-shrinker, and unwarranted lecturing, snooping, and accusing are sure to get you nowhere. If you have any legitimate concerns about cheating, a respectful and honest conversation is usually the best place to start.
7. Don’t talk behind his back: All couples are bound to encounter some difficult times, but airing your dirty laundry is usually a bad idea (unless your partner is abusive or doing something illegal or dangerous, in which case you should definitely seek the help of a third party). If you have run-of-the-mill relationship drama, ranting to your friends and family will often make things worse. Remember, just because you can forgive your man, it doesn’t mean they can. If you plan on working past it, keep it to yourself.
9. Support him: Encourage him if he wants to try something new. Support him if he's going through a rough phase in life. Generally, men do not open up as easily as women do, so don’t expect a heartfelt conversation every time he’s going
through a rocky patch. Something as simple as telling him he’s doing a good job or making him a nice meal after a long day can make him feel cared for.

Zika is still a risk
I
TRAVEL ALERT:
f you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant, do not travel to a Zika-affected area. Zika is affecting parts of Central and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, the United States and other places listed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Zika virus is spread by certain kinds of mosquitoes and through sexual contact. Zika can cause birth defects.
Basic Facts
People usually get Zika through a mosquito bite—but only certain kinds of mosquitoes (Aedes mosquitoes) can spread Zika. Zika can also be spread through sexual contact and blood contact (i.e. blood transfusions, sharing injection equipment, etc.). Zika is not spread by casual contact. Most people (80%) who get in-
fected with Zika do not get sick. For those who do get sick, the sickness is usually mild. Since Zika causes birth defects, there is special guidance related to pregnancy. See below. There is no Zika vaccine and no medicine that treats Zika. Fight Back NYC is a citywide campaign to inform New Yorkers on how they can reduce and prevent mosquito bites. New Yorkers can protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing protective clothing and using mosquito repellant. New Yorkers can also help by removing standing water, the breeding site for mosquitoes, in bird baths, cans, flower pots or any place where water can gather and mosquitoes can lay eggs. Call 311 or file a complaint online to report any standing water that you cannot manage yourself.

Checking Your Credit Report Highlighting the opportunities and challenges of local business
n Experian survey in 2013 found that 49 percent of Americans check their credit scores at least once a year. While it seems that many understand the importance of Checking Their Credit Report regularly, there’s still room for improvement for more than half of Americans. Why is it Important to Check Your Credit Report? It is important to know what potential lenders will see on your credit report when they are making a decision to extend you credit or approve your loan. If you have been diligent about keeping an eye on your credit, there is a strong likelihood that you can qualify for favorable loan interest rates. If there is erroneous information on your credit report, it is better to discover it sooner—rather than later. Your credit report also allows you to better understand your own spending habits. The following checklist can help you Better Manage Your Personal Finances.
1.Request a copy of your credit report from the three major credit reporting bureaus. Your credit report contains information such as payment history, credit usage, account types, account ages and inquiries. 2. Check your credit report for accuracy. If there is account information, names, or Social Security numbers that do not belong to you, it could be a sign of identity theft. Federal law allows you to challenge and Dispute What You Believe To Be Inaccuracies. Knowing what is inaccurate can lead to a faster resolution. 3. Put together a budget to help keep your finances in check. This can start with having an open dialogue about money at
home. Each family's approach might be different, but generally, it begins by determining how much money you make compared to how much money you spend. Agree on how the family should spend and save going forward. Your credit report can be an excellent resource for helping manage your finances. Knowing what is in your credit report gives you the opportunity to make better financial decisions. This article is provided for general guidance and information. It is not intended as, nor should it be construed to be, legal, financial or other professional advice. ward winning musical icon Lloyd Lovindeer headlines the list of performers slated to appear at the 2017 Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival to be held on Saturday June 3 beginning at 12 noon. The third annual edition of the outdoor festival will take place on 160th Street between Jamaica and 90th Avenues in Jamaica, Queens. The list of entertainers just released by the festival also includes singers Andrew Clarke, Nadiva Deveraux and Carl ‘Rameses’ McDonald, the Braata Folk Singers, gospel artist Kukudoo, the drama ensemble Flat Tire Productions and The D’Oro Dance Ensemble. The artists will all be part of the festival’s Grand Cultural Concert, which is the high point of the annual event and begins at 4pm. The Jamaican born ‘Lovindeer’ as he is affectionately known, is one of the most popular and enduring Caribbean entertainers of his generation. In a career spanning over forty years, he has thrilled audiences worldwide with an array of hits, often characterized by uniquely witty lyrics and double entendre lines. He will be joined by an eclectic group of established and emerging artists, including
Lloyd Lovindeer
Andrew Clarke - fresh from an acclaimed performance in the world premiere of the popular new musical- Welcome To America, and gospel artist Kukudoo, who has been a major force in Caribbean gospel music for over thirty years.
Much is also expected from the popular dramatic ensemble Flat Tire Productions- a group of Indo Caribbean artists whose credits include several feature films , tv shows and stage plays- as well as the D’Oro Dance Ensemble , a Jamaican based dance company specializing in traditional African Folk dance forms. And making his Bankra Festival debut will be vocalist Carl ‘Rameses’ McDonald, backed by the renowned True Tribute Organization, who have been among the most unique cultural ambassadors of the reggae music form for many years. This year’s event will again feature a food pavilion with cuisine from various islands, face painting and clown activities for children, cultural exhibits, and participatory folk games and dances for patrons. The Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival derives its name from a large woven basketcalled a ‘bankra’ - which is usually used to carry an array of food and cultural items in Jamaica. According to festival organizers, the festival is best described as “A huge basket of culture and folk traditions that we are sharing annually with our growing audience. And they are responding in large and very encouraging numbers.”
