undreds gathered on Friday and Saturday to pay final respects to Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, who was hailed by many as a much-needed agent of change to New York City's criminal justice system during his short time in office. Mayor Bill de Blasio, Governor Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch attended the service at the Christian Cultural Center in East New York, Brooklyn.
Thompson died Sunday at the age of 50, days after announcing he had cancer and would be taking time off for treatment. Mourners say Thompson, Brooklyn's first African-American DA, was a champion of justice. "He was never looking for the limelight or anything," said Graham Weatherspoon, retired NYPD officer and board member on the Amadou Diallo Foundation. "He just wanted to do what he could do to help people. Whether it was as a defense attorney or prosecutor, he just wanted to help people he was adjoined with. And this is what public service is.” Continued on page 4

merican voters will go to the polls on Nov. 8 to elect a new president, a new vice president, members of congress and senate as well as other city and state officials. However, it is the fiery presidential election that has dominated the conversations of not only Americans, but people all across the globe. The Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, and her unpredictable rival, Republican Donald J Trump, are currently locked in a fierce campaign to secure the absolute majority of 270 electoral votes. With the vast majority of our community registered as Democrats, Clinton, dogged by a steady stream of damaging leaked emails, is currently leading in the polls over the controversial Trump who has garnered a solid following of staunch supporters who have apparently decided to stand by him – despite the day-to-day controversies that flare up in his camp, including allegations
of sexual assault in recent days.
Hillary Clinton, the wife of former president Bill Clinton, a former New York State Senator and Secretary of State, has over 30 years of experience in politics, compared with Trump, an accomplished real estate mogul, entrepreneur and entertainer. As the pitched campaign intensifies with daily charges and counter-charges, supporters of both candidates are adamant that their respective candidate is more suitable for the office of president. However, in our evaluation of Clinton and Trump, there are major weaknesses and strengthens on both sides. The weekly stream of Wiki Leaks emails continue to solidify voters’ perception of Clinton as a liar and who is untrustworthy. After Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server first became known, she initially said she sent no e-mails with classified information. While she
patrick@streethype.net
was also Secretary of State, she deleted some 33,000 emails in a suspicious manner. On the other hand, Trump isn't stupid but he is a poor candidate because of his lack of political experience. Like many Republicans, he doesn't seem to get it that America is a free country for everybody, not just those that look and think like him. In recent days since a video emerged showing Trump
bragging about his ability to get away with sexually assault, several women have stepped forward to allege the Republican presidential nominee touched them inappropriately. Together, their allegations amount to a substantial list of alleged sexual harassment and assault dating back to the early 1980s. Trump has denied every allegation against him. Nonetheless, we want our president to be somebody of integrity, but press and social media appears to be focusing on the personality and behavior of the candidates. Among the African American communities especially, we want to hear more about the social and economic issues including job creations, security, education, housing and improvement to our infrastructure and other social amenities. In keeping with our nonpolitical status, the editorial staff of Street Hype doesn’t wish to endorse Clinton or Trump, but urged readers to exercise a conscience vote.

ou should know that recently, Haiti was devastated by Hurricane Matthew, leaving a death toll of more than 900, destroying towns, villages, homes, schools, businesses, and leaving most of the island in disrepair. You should also know that in 2010, Haiti was hit by an earthquake, practically destroying almost the whole island, leaving 200,000 people dead, and survivors devastated with famine and disease. In 2010, after the earthquake, there was a national effort to help rebuild Haiti. According to reports, $10 billion dollars was raised to rebuild it. It is important for you to know that in 2010, even though $10 billion dollars was raised and the whole island could have been rebuilt, that was not done. In a New York Post column titled “Al Nixed Haiti $$” Richard Johnson wrote: “The Rev. Al Sharpton doesn’t want any money going to rebuild Haiti from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew until we find out what happened to the $10 billion that was meant to rebuild Haiti after the earthquake in 2010.”
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
By Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz diaz@nysenate.gov District 32 Bronx County
Mr. Johnson continued: “What happened to the money that was given the last time? We need to look into it,” Sharpton told me. “I don’t know where the blame lies.” Ladies and gentlemen, we all know how Haiti is one of the poorest islands in the hemisphere, and when natural disasters strike, suffering gets worse. Sean Penn, along with other celebrities created organizations to raise money to help rebuild Haiti. It is a shame that after six years, even before Hurricane Matthew hit, the people in Haiti continue to suffer devastation. You should know that even though people are getting together once again to raise money for Haiti, I agree with Reverend Al Sharpton that money should
not be given to Haiti until we know who is profiting from Haiti’s suffering. We need to get together and press the authorities to find out
where the $10 billion dollars went and why that money did not help the people in Haiti. Can you imagine what we could do with $10 billion dollars? There are countries whose annual budgets are less than $10 billion dollars. Reverend Sharpton, I am with you. Where are the $10 billion dollars that was given to Haiti? I am Senator Reverend Rubén Díaz, and this is what you should know.

Queens man charged with murdering his mother
Q
QUEENS:
ueens District Attorney Richard A. Brown announced last Friday that a 21-year-old man has been charged with murder and other charges in the beating death of his mother, whose body was found in a lake inside Flushing Meadows Park.
District Attorney Brown identified the defendant as Roman Gorbunov, 21, of 62nd Drive, Rego Park, Queens. Gorbunov is being held pending arraignment later this evening in Queens Criminal Court on charges of second-degree murder, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. The District Attorney said that, according to the charges, on the evening of September 27, 2016, it is alleged that after an argument with the victim, Lyubov Gorbunova, 58, of Rego Park, the defendant struck his mother in the head with a plate and then a blunt instrument fatally wounding her. It is further alleged that he stuffed her body into a bodybag and ordered a car service to take him to Flushing Meadows Park where he dumped her into the water. The investigation was conducted by detectives of the New York City Police Department’s 112th Precinct Detective Squad, and the Queens Homicide North Detective Squad.

During his time as DA, Thompson focused on exonerating the wrongfully convicted, and refrained from prosecuting people for low-level offenses such as possession of small amounts of marijuana. Thompson also assisted in convincing the Justice Department to reopen the 1955 murder case of 14-year-old Emmett Till, who was killed by a group of white men in Mississippi. For Thompson, he started as a kid growing up in Harlem and The Bronx and made it big in the legal world. Many say they are hoping Thompson's work and dedication will continue in the DA's office and across the city.

Caribbean Remittances Hits $72 Billion For 2016
News Americas, WASHINGTON DC: he World Bank’s latest paper on Migration and Development says remittances to the Latin American and Caribbean is set to see a 6.3 percent increase this year compared to other regions globally and reach $72 billion by the end of 2016. This follows a decline in the level of remittances recorded in 2015. Here are six Caribbean nations with the highest number of remittance inflows so far this year: 1: The Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic, with a GDP of USD 64 billion, continues to lead the Caribbean with the highest receipts of remittances again this year. According to the World Bank’s latest data, DR nationals overseas have already sent home USD 5.3 billion this year, an increase of almost 7.8 percent over the same period last year. 2: Jamaica Jamaicans are still sending lots of money home to support their loved ones. According to the latest World Bank data, the country has seen USD 2.4 billion so far this year, an increase of almost 17 percent over 2015. The country’s current GDP is around USD 14 billion.
3: Haiti Haitians have sent back almost USD2.3 billion so far this year, an increase of almost 25 percent from last year. Haiti’s GDP is estimated at USD 9 billion. 4: Guyana The South American CARICOM nation of Guyana recorded USD 296 million, according to the World Bank numbers, a whopping 9.3 percent over the same period for 2015. Guyana’s GDP is estimated at USD 3.1 billion.
5: Trinidad & Tobago The twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, with a GDP of USD 31 billion, has received USD 128 million so far this year, according to the World Bank data, but the increase was only a slight half percent gain over 2015.
6: Barbados Barbados, with a GDP of around USD 4 billion, rounded out the top 6 receiving USD 106 million so far in remittances, a 2.4 percent increase over 2015.
LATIN AMERICA From January to August 2016, the yearon-year growth rates in remittance inflows were: Mexico 6.6 percent, El Salvador 6 percent, Honduras 6.4 percent, and Guatemala 15 percent. In Colombia, remittances from the US increased by 12 percent and from
Spain by 19 percent during the first half of 2016. “Remittances continue to be an important component of the global economy, surpassing international aid,” said Augusto Lopez-Claros, Director of the World Bank’s Global Indicators Group, as the paper notes that remittances flows to the Caribbean and Latin America region increased during the first eight months of 2016 due possibly to the recovery of the US economy, which is in its seventh year of expansion, and a slight recovery in Spain in the second quarter of 2016.

Dalling’s ‘Business foreclosure’ comments were misleading! NEWS
WWW.STREETHYPENEWSPAPER.COM
I
Dear Editor: am responding to an article entitled “Mount Vernon Business Faces Foreclosure” that appeared in your newspaper dated October 1, 2016. In the interest of fairness, I sincerely hope you will publish this letter. I find it necessary to respond to this article in order to dismiss the many false and misleading statements made by both Mr. Trevor Dalling the former owner of the property in question and by Mayor Thomas. For the record the following are the facts: • Mr. Dalling’s property at 114-120 Stevens Ave, was foreclosed by the City of Mount Vernon after not paying property taxes since 2008. • The City of Mount Vernon, NY Comptroller’s office gave the owner of the property numerous opportunities to pay the taxes, including preparing a payment agreement in September 2010 that was signed by Trevor Dalling and notarized. Mr Dalling failed to honor this agreement. • The ownership of the property was transferred from Dalco Management to Rayday in January 2012 in the attempt to prevent the City of Mount Vernon from foreclosing on the property and taking ownership.
MAURINE WALKER Mount Vernon City Comptroller
• The City of Mount Vernon took ownership of the property in November 2012. • In May 2013 the property was to be put up for auction. An order of stay was given by the Court the day of the auction so

the property could not be sold. Two additional stays were also filed on the days of auctions in November 2014 as well as April 2016.
• In order to redeem his property, Mr. Dalling would have to pay the city a total of $564, 194.64 representing the total taxes accumulated on the property. Property taxes are paid to the City to provide services such as police, fire, sanitation, public works, and other services. When a homeowner does not pay property taxes, the financial burden is passed on to the property owners who do pay property taxes • The Comptroller’s office never refused a payment of $564,194.64 that was due to redeem the property. Payment was due by September 16, 2016. However, the payment in the form of a certified check was never presented to the Department of Finance. The foreclosure process is mandated by New York State law and Mount Vernon basically follows this law when it comes to the foreclosure and subsequent auction of properties that that are seriously delinquent in the paying of property taxes. Jamie Lee Morales, 30 and Dr Robert Rho, 52
QUEENS Queens County grand jury on Tuesday (Oct 11) has indicted a Flushing medical doctor on a charge of second-degree manslaughter for allegedly recklessly causing the death of Jamie Lee Morales, 30-year-old woman, in part, by perforating her uterine wall and causing a disruption and transaction of the uterine artery during a surgical procedure on July 9, 2016, at the health facility where he practices and then failing to provide appropriate and timely medical attention. Robert Rho, 52, of Lake Success, New York, who maintains a medical practice at Liberty Women’s Health Care of Queens, located at 37-01 Main Street, Flushing, is presently awaiting arraignment in Queens County Supreme Court on a one-count indictment, charging him with second-degree manslaughter. According to the charges, the victim, Morales having made an appointment to have an abortion performed at Liberty Women’s Health of Queens, arrived with her sister at the
Flushing facility on July 9, 2016. It is alleged that during the course of the surgical procedure, which took place at shortly after 1 p.m., Dr. Rho caused a laceration of the victim’s cervix, a perforation of the uterine wall and a disruption and transaction of the uterine artery and then failed to provide her with appropriate and timely medical attention. It is additionally alleged that, while in the recovery room, the victim was bleeding profusely and was required to undergo a second procedure at the health facility. Thereafter, the victim was allegedly allowed to leave the facility despite having collapsed and appearing disoriented. On the drive to her sister’s Bronx residence the victim allegedly fell off the backseat and became unresponsive. She was transported to a Bronx hospital where she was treated for vaginal bleeding and given six units of blood. The victim was pronounced dead that night. If convicted, Dr. Rho faces up to 15 years in prison.

Haiti after Hurricane Matthew: A million doses of cholera vaccine are on their way to Haiti's most vulnerable
Can a cholera epidemic be avoided?
T
By Rebecca Seales/BBC News he World Health Organization (WHO) is sending a million doses of cholera vaccine to Haiti, where more than 200 cases of the killer disease have been reported since Hurricane Matthew struck on 4 October. A race is on to curb new outbreaks before the imminent rainy season makes toilets overflow, helping cholera to spread. "The top priority, clearly, for those people affected by the hurricane is to give them access to safe water. That's the only way we can control cholera," Dr Dominique Legros, a WHO expert, said on Tuesday. Cholera killed around 10,000 people in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake, when UN peacekeepers introduced it to the country by emptying toilet waste into the Meille River, a major water source. Now the same communities face another mass tragedy. So what can be done to stop the epidemic? The UN estimates that 1.4 million Haitians are in need of aid. The WHO wants to give Haitians an oral vaccine, which is taken in liquid form. Usually, pa-
tients get a double dose. But in this case a single dose may be used to cover twice as many people - a million instead of 500,000. "So far, we have one experience of a largescale campaign with a single dose - it was done in Bangladesh two years ago. It proved effective for six months," Dr Legros said. But Dr Jean-Luc Poncelet, who is the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and WHO representative in Haiti, warns the vaccine is not a complete solution. "It's only 65% effective. So 35 out of 100 people could still get cholera," he told the BBC. While immunity is one factor, people in high-risk areas urgently need clean water so they are not exposed to the bacteria in the first place. Cholera can spread quickly when sewage ends up in the water supply Cholera spreads rapidly when sewage is not treated, hygiene is poor and drinking water is unsafe. To combat these issues, Dr Poncelet says chlorine should be used to sterilise water both at its source and in people's kitchens.

Addressing a Gastronomy of Fats and Oils Seminar on October 12, Bartlett said studies conducted by the tourism ministry show that food is a major draw for overseas visitors and that Jamaica’s culinary delights rank amongst the best in the world. “Earlier this year, I introduced the framework to develop gastronomy tourism locally. I appointed a Gastronomy Network, which falls under the aegis of our Tourism Linkages Network, to develop initiatives to strengthen Jamaica’s competitiveness in gastronomy tourism, as we diversify our product to generate higher growth rates in both visitor arrivals and earnings,” the minister said. “Jamaican food, rum and music are all critical ingredients in the building out of this gastronomy experience,” he added.

WASHINGTON: rrests, protests and legal challenges continue across the world, and Panama has now officially engaged a public relations firm to manage the country’s reputation amid ongoing global fallout from Panama Papers revelations. The Panamanian government has contracted communications and consulting firm Bellwether Strategies to “promote Panama's commercial and diplomatic objectives” and to provide centralized “crisis communication” strategies for the government’s response to the Panama Papers. The $50,000-a-month contract is detailed in filings with the United States’ Foreign Agents Registration Unit, which lists Panama’s president Juan Carlos Varela and ambassador to the US Emanuel Gonzalez-Revilla as the officials overseeing Bellwether’s work. Meanwhile in Israel, two investment and foreign exchange executives were arrested on suspicion of not declaring hundreds of thousands of dollars held offshore. The arrests are the first from the tax authority’s investigations of the Panama Papers, and more arrests are expected, according to reports.
By Garwin Davis KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS): Minister of tourism, Edmund Bartlett, says Jamaica is uniquely poised to tap into the US$150-billion international gastronomy market, propelling the tourism industry even faster towards further economic growth.
wo Jamaicans have been arrested in connection with the shooting of 15 persons, four fatally at a makeshift restaurant in Los Angeles, California in the United States on Sunday. They have been named as 33-yearold Mowayne McKay and 25-year-old Diego Reid. Both have been booked on suspicion of murder. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the fourth victim died on Monday. It is reported that the incident occurred as a result of a drug deal gone bad. The police did not specify what roles the Jamaicans allegedly played in the shooting.

Darren Bravo century almost denies hosts in thriller Pakistan v West Indies:
P
DUBAI, PAKISTAN: akistan clinched a thrilling 56-run win over West Indies in the day-night Test in Dubai despite a Darren Bravo century on the final day. Mohammad Amir took 3-63 for the hosts, his best figures since his return from a spot-fixing ban, to ensure victory for the hosts in their 400th Test. Bravo's 116 gave West Indies - chasing 346 to win - hope, before he fell to Yasir Shah to leave them 263-7. Pakistan wrapped up victory with 12 overs to spare. The second match of the three-Test series starts on Friday in Abu Dhabi. Beginning the final day on 95-2, West Indies - now without a win in 12 Tests - lost Marlon Samuels caught behind off the first ball to Amir. But Bravo shared half-century stands with Roston Chase and captain Jason Holder and reached three figures off 211 balls, hav-
ing hit nine fours and a six, to bring West Indies within sight of what would have been the third highest successful run chase in Tests. Day-night Test fails to inspire in UAE The experiment of having a day-night Test in the United Arab Emirates looks to have failed after a lacklustre turnout across the five days. While 123,736 fans packed into the Adelaide Oval across three days in November 2015 for the first ever day-night Test between Australia and New Zealand, official figures suggest just 6,000 spectators watched the action over five days in Dubai. On Friday, the first of the weekend in the UAE, the crowd was a little over 2,400 at its peak despite an entry fee of just AED 20 (£4.50). Problems with the pink Kookaburra ball arose too, despite its seam being strengthened and coloured black to make it easier for the batsmen to see.

Damian Invests In Marijuana Futures
D
amian Marley was born into two worlds – reggae and marijuana. So the singer understandably laughs as I sit with him at L.A.’s storied Sunset Marquis and ask him about his collaboration with Ocean Grown Extracts, a company whose about page declares, “Ocean Grown Extracts produces cannabis concentrates with the same integrity and attention to detail as cultivating our award-winning flowers. We grow our cannabis under local compliance free of pesticides, molds, or other contaminants.” “It goes without saying that for marijuana the attraction is very natural,” he chuckles. As part of their joint venture Marley is turning a vacant Coalinga, California prison into a medical marijuana manufacturing plant, which Ocean Grown will use to sell wholesale to dispensaries. Marley’s initial interest was born out of his fondness for Ocean Grown, but the scope and details of the venture came after the two started working together. -------------------------------------------

Meet The Jamaican Who Becomes Paul Robeson
By NAN ET Editor/News Americas amaican-born actor is winning acclaim for “becoming” acclaimed athlete, singer, actor and civil rights activist, Paul Robeson, every time he steps on stage. Stogie Kenyatta, who was born in Jamaica but grew up in Brooklyn, is winning acclaim for his “One Man Broadway Show” – “The World is My Home – The Life of Paul Robeson” – which covers the life and friendships of Robeson. On stage, Kenyatta magnificently captures the essence of Robeson as he chronologically takes the audience through the life of the African American icon who was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and also played in the National Football League (NFL), received his law degree from Columbia Law School, where he sang and acted in off-campus productions and became a participant in the Harlem Renaissance and became involved in civil rights in response to the Spanish Civil War, fascism, and social injustices. Stop the Deportation of Haitians
C
Congresswoman Clarke Says..
WASHINGTON, D.C: ongresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the resumed deportation of undocumented Haitian immigrants from the United States: “I am deeply concerned by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) recent decision to resume the deportation of undocumented Haitian immigrants. As we are all too aware, over the past decade, Haiti has unfortunately been severely impacted by natural disasters and political instability which contributed to its status as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and caused extreme hardship in the lives of her people. Although Haitian infrastructure has improved somewhat since the deadly 2010 earthquake, the country has been contending with a cholera outbreak that has afflicted more than 750,000 people and killed more than 9,000 of women, men, and children. Given this public health crisis and the current economic and political instability in Haiti, we have a responsibility to our Caribbean sisters and brothers to act with compassion, which includes providing for Haitians already present in the United States.”

VICTORIA MITCHELL:
Lickle but Tallawah!
M
eet Victoria Mitchell – Executive Director of District Council 1707 and International Vice President of the New York State Legislative District on the International Executive Board of AFSCME union. This diminutive dynamo from Kingston exemplifies the popular Jamaican phrase ‘lickle but tallawah’ – which translates in English to ‘small but mighty’. She is the first rank and file executive director in the union’s history and the first Jamaican native to ever hold such a major position in the nation’s largest and fastest growing public services employee union, which represents more than 1.6 million working and retired members. She recently brokered a new contract with the City of New York for 2,700 workers with City day care providers, many of whom are Jamaicans, for salary hike worth $145M, and contributed to the raising of wages for 3,000 union members who had not had a wage increase in 9 long years. And this new contract also saw an upturn in minimum rates. She also worked to create affordable, high quality health care benefits for union members. For example, under the expired contract, workers had only one choice of insurance and the monthly cost ranged from a low of $100 per month to cover the individual to $284 per month to cover family. There’s now a new agreement however, which offers a range of insurance options, with members paying as little as $15 a month to cover themselves or $90 a month for full family coverage. This augurs well for workers, as the city is also increasing its contributions and the benefits of all current members will be maintained. As Mitchel herself puts it, “It’s a great victory for the workers. This contract puts things back on a normal track by providing for significant raises, affordable health care insurance and protection of their pension benefits,” Prior to her election in 2014, Mitchell served on the District Council’s Executive Board for two and a half decades and was President of Local 107. Passionate about service, she’s also Chairman of the Head Start Local 95 Health and Welfare Fund and a trustee for the Home Care Local 389 Health and Welfare Fund, as well as the Day Care Local 205 Health and Welfare

How to Maintain Healthy Hair!
1. It's normal to lose 100 to 150 strands of hair a day so don't panic when you see a small bunch crawling across your tiled floor.
2. Comb wet hair with extreme care because they're fragile and prone to breakage. Take a broad toothed comb and run it from the roots to the ends of your hair as gently as possible. 3. Trim your hair every few weeks to get rid of those brown and rough split ends. Cut about 1/4th an inch of your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid the split ends to grow out again. 4. Don't wash your hair everyday and whenever you do, apply some conditioner on the ends. Try and use the same brand of shampoo and conditioner.
5. Rinse the conditioner off with cold water as it is good for both strength and shine.
sist that gorgeous shade of brown, especially under the winter sun then follow this clever advise shared on the blog Free People. Use lemon, chamomile tea or honey as they work as great hair lighteners. You can add lemon juice to water and spray it over your hair when you're heading out. You can rinse your hair with brewed chamomile tea after you wash them with shampoo or add honey to the water you use to wash your hair.
6. Unlike the labels on the back of our food items, the labels on the back of our shampoos are mostly left unread. In the last few years, there has been a lot of focus on sulfate in shampoos. What are sulfates? They're the reason your shampoo lathers the way it does. They clean your scalp and hair, departing the dirt from it. But some researchers also suggest that they strip your hair of essential oils. They're also why your eye stings when shampoo runs down the side of your face. If you feel any kind of irritation on the scalp or find your hair drying up over time then try and buy a shampoo that's sulfate-free.

Gas prices to increase by 23¢

as prices in New Jersey will go up on Nov. 1 by 23 cents a gallon after Governor Chris Christie signed the largest gas tax increase in state history on Friday October 14th. The total tax grows to 37.5 cents a gallon under a deal that pays for road, bridge and public transportation improvements. It’s the first increase in gas taxes since 1988.
Polls conducted by the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University consistently show that a majority of New Jersey voters oppose the gas tax increase. The gas tax was part of a deal Christie negotiated with Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, both Democrats, that ended a standoff on
transportation funding. Without an agreement in place, Christie had ordered projects across the state shut down. The package approved on October 14th includes the elimination of the estate tax, a slight reduction in the sales tax, and an increase in tax credits to the working poor.
ennsylvania CPA Barry E. Horrow was recently charged by the Eastern District of Pennsylvania with four counts of bank fraud and one count of aiding and abetting. The information alleges that Horrow was a CPA who owned and operated Horrow and Associates, first in Delaware County and then in Chester County, Pennsylvania. From January 2005 through March 2013, George Barnard and David Fili, Jr. (both of whom were charged separately), began operating Capital Financial Mortgage Corp (“CFMC”) first as a mortgage brokerage and later as a direct mortgage lender. Barnard also had a direct or indirect ownership interest in various title companies, including PA/NJ Abstract, Inc. dba East Coast Land Transfer, PANJ Land Transfer LLC, Tri-State Land Transfer LLC, Nationwide Land Transfer LLC, Atlantic Closing Services LLC and Gulf Coast Land Transfer Inc. Student feels unworthy of girl he adores

I
Dear Divine Diva: have a love problem I could use your help with. I go to college, and I met an amazing girl, "Lorena," here. She's very religious, which I like about her. We have been talking, but I'm afraid to ask her out. I don't have the best morals, and I'm afraid I would corrupt her if we did go out. I don't want to make her into something she isn't. Should I let her be who she is, or take the risk of dating her and hope she'll be happy? When I think about Lorena, I realize I'd do anything for her-- even change my life. Please tell me what to do. -- Wild Man In New Jersey Dear Wild Man: Feeling as you do about Lorena, I think you should take the risk and ask her out. Because you would do "anything" for her, make it your top priority not to push her into anything you know wouldn't be good for her. You wouldn't be the first "wild man" to meet someone who made him want to be a better man. I wish you luck.—Always Divine Diva

Sister's Demands on Her Family Get Pushback From Mom
M
Dear Divine Diva: y sister "Beth" has a boyfriend, "Danny." They have a 6-monthold baby girl. Neither one has a driver's license, and they both have low-paying part-time jobs. Beth expects us to baby-sit, take her to the doctor, etc. Mom is now starting to refuse to do more than babysit on Sunday, because she says Beth needs to get her license and look for a better job, and it won't happen until she's "pushed to the wall." Only then will she realize she has to. I agree, but I feel Beth and Danny should pursue their dreams. It takes money to get a license, and where we live there is no public transportation. What's your take on this tug-of-war? -- Big Brother In Conneticut
Please send your questions and comments to: divinestreethype@gmail.com
Dear Big Brother: Listen to your mother. The chances of your sister and her boyfriend attaining their dreams while working at low-paying part-time jobs are not great. What they need now is help in gaining their independence. While your mother may have put it in harsh terms, she has the right idea. -Always Divine Diva

MEN OF CITY COUNCIL WEAR PINK:
In a show of solidarity, the male members of the New York City Council recently wore pink to the Stated meeting to honor men who are battling cancer and to pay tribute to Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson and many others who died of cancer. Council Member Andy King, (4th l) an American Cancer Society “Real Men Wear Pink” ambassador who spearheaded the pink campaign at the Council Chambers in City Hall, said “ I want to thank all the men for their support. I personally understand how cancer impacts families because I lost a sister-in-law and I currently have a family member battling stage 4 breast cancer. Equally, we just lost a great man, D.A. Ken Thompson, to cancer. So, I ask us all to continue to do all we can to bring awareness to ourselves and our community about the fight against cancer, especially breast cancer.”
Dandelion Tea Detoxify Liver & Kidneys, kills Cancer and purifies
D
andelion (Taraxacum officinale), is unfortunately usually known for being a pesky weed, which people commonly remove from their backyards (and often spray with herbicides). However, humans have been using dandelion in food and teas for its medicinal properties for most of the recorded history. Many people still underestimate the benefits of this plant. When we talk about the dandelion tea, we are talking about two different teas: an infusion made from the leaves and the other made from the roots. The best way to get all of the benefits is to put the dried root and leaves into a cup of boiling water (cover and let steep for 10 minutes or longer), strain and drink it as is. The more herb you use and the longer you let it steep, the stronger the brew. In Chinese medicine, dandelion is used to support liver health, stimulate urinary function to promote cleansing, but also for bones and joint health.
Herbalists often use this plant’s root to cleanse the liver and gallbladder, and the leaves to aid in kidney function and also as a digestive aid. Some people also use this super-weed to treat infections, skin problems like eczema, joint pain, and even cancer. It is also extensively employed and studied as a diuretic. It is also believed to help prevent age spots and breast cancer. Dandelion is also beneficial for brain health and acts as a neuroprotective agent due to its high luteolin content. You can also use dandelion greens in your salads since it is very rich in nutrients, vitamins (especially beta-carotene and vitamin K), minerals and antioxidants. Do not forget about the flowering part, which is especially rich in phytonutrients. There are some great dandelion recipe books and ready-to-use dandelion products that you can use daily for your overall health. .

ester Holt, the anchor of the weekday edition of NBC’s Nightly News, roots extend to Jamaica. You may know Lester Holt as the anchor of the weekday edition of NBC’s Nightly News and the moderator of the first Presidential debate of 2016. But did you know Holt’s roots run to the Caribbean too? Born Lester Don Holt, Jr. in Marin County, California, the 57-year-old television anchor is the grandson of Jamaican immigrants on his mother’s side. His grandparents moved to New York and had his mom. He has said he ate a lot of Jamaican food growing up and was exposed to some of the culture and customs but never felt a pull to explore that part of my background until 2007 when his mother, June, made her first trip to Jamaica.
