POLICE WARN TOURISTS: BEWARE LADYBOYS T
hai police are again alerting foreign tourists to the dangers posed by some ladyboys robbing unwary visitors. National Tourist Police Division Chief Surachet Hakphan said he did not wish to categorize all transgender people, but explained there was a real danger from those who trick and rob foreigners. Meanwhile, Pattaya police have conducted more patrols in view of the rising number of complaints by international visitors who have lost cash and valuables. In the past month, Pattaya police have received 15 cases of local robbery conducted by transgenders. In most cases, a group of several crossdressers got into conversation with the targeted foreigner, promising intimate services, or otherwise sought to distract his attention whilst an accomplice concentrated on stealing a wallet or a piece of expensive jewelry. In about half the cases, the thieves then fled on motorbikes.

Police say that only a small number of foreigners want sex with ladyboys, which explains why the latter frequently turn to violent behaviour. But there have been several incidents where a naive foreigner took at least one ladyboy to a hotel room only to be drugged with a spiked drink and his
belongings ransacked. In the worst case, an Indian tourist lost the equivalent of 400,000 baht in foreign currency and a similar amount in jewelry and hi-tech equipment. He later told police he did not know that his chosen companion was not a woman until it was too late.
But the authorities believe that some foreigners are too ashamed to report their misfortune to the police. Police Colonel Chakphet Phetploinin, head of the patrol and special operations division, said he had evidence that foreigners from some countries Continued on page 4

Many students in the project said they felt much more confident and could apply for fulltime employment in the hospitality industry with enthusiasm.
TAT Newsroom announces winners of the very first Blogger Campaign To mark the United Nations International Day of Charity on September 5, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has launched the latest initiative as part of its ‘Kilo of Kindness’ drive. In the campaign, the hospitality company draws attention to the importance of supporting education as a charitable initiative. September is traditionally a time for students to return to school after the summer. Yet for many children in disadvantaged communities, the books, stationary, clothing and other educational materials required to optimise their learning, cannot always be counted on.
For Mövenpick’s ‘A Kilo of Kindness for a treat of ice cream’ campaign, guests and residents were invited to visit the 16 participating hotels in the Middle East and Asia to donate at least a kilo of learning supplies to organisations that will distribute these in their respective communities. Each person who made a donation received an ice cream as a small gesture of appreciation. The participating properties in Thailand include Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket, Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket, Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok and Mövenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya.
The entries are in, the votes are all counted and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced the names of the six bloggers who received the most votes in the TAT Newsroom Blogger Campaign. These writers and photographers will soon be coming to Thailand to join an allinclusive familiarisation trip in the Thai northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Nearly 200 people entered the Blogger Campaign and close to 3,500 people signed up to vote. The date for submissions was between June 16 to July 31, 2016 and people were able to vote for their favourites until August 10. TAT announced the bloggers who got the most votes in both the photography and story categories.
The TAT Newsroom Blogger Campaign is part of the TAT’s initiative that aims to encourage international travellers to “Discover Amazing Stories” in Thailand. Bloggers and photographers were invited to share their most amazing images and writing
as a way of promoting the charms, attractions, customs and unique cultures of the Kingdom. These stories and images were uploaded to the www. blogger.tatnews.org website so that blog readers, followers and members of the public could vote for their favourites.

News POLICE WARN TOURISTS: BEWARE LADYBOYS Continued from page 1 are too embarrassed to inform the police with the attendant publicity this can bring. He suggested that visitors should do more to protect themselves, such as not wearing expensive jewelry and avoiding walking alone in poorly lit areas. Pattaya police claim that regular patrols on Walking Street, sometimes involving the army, and better lighting along Beach Road have now begun to pay dividends in terms of public safety. Critics point out that arrested transvestites suspected of prostitution are often simply fined 100 or 200 baht at the police station before being allowed to go on their way. There is also evidence that Cambodian and Vietnamese
transgenders are now operating locally with the same aim of robbing hapless tourists. But they risk deportation when discovered as they typically have 15 day tourist visas which have frequently expired. Most commentators think that the only answer to the problem of thieving ladyboys is heightened public awareness. Visitors from some countries, including China and the Middle East, have virtually no knowledge of transgender issues and easily fall into traps. Researchers into the subject of ladyboys stress that many of them are not thieves or prostitutes but earn a living honestly working in factories, restaurants and stores. The three best-known theatres in Pattaya specialize in transvestite shows which provide a living
for hundreds of transgender persons. On the other hand, there is still employmentrelated discrimination in many sectors and open transgender appearance can be a real deterrent to actually finding a job. Living in the shadows is the only opportunity left for some. A Pattaya police volunteer, who asked not to be identified, said “In fact, the ladyboys themselves are sometimes the victims. They are rounded up and have to pay fines but the purpose of the exercise is raising cash rather than securing public safety.” He added that Pattaya streets and hotels have hundreds of security cameras which in theory should help to catch perpetrators. The problem was that most of them were out of action.

TAT conference at Cape Dara
Aiming to increase tourism income by 16.8 percent—or 105.5 million baht, the Tourism Authority of Thailand held a promotion conference at Cape Dara Resort Pattaya. Suladda Sarutilawan, director of TAT Pattaya, and Kritsada Rattanapruek, director of TAT Eastern Region, officiated.
The tourism promotion for 2017 focuses more on Thai travelers. TAT will encourage Thais to travel more to increase the tourism income by 10 percent. They also will set up a smart phone app to promote Thai tourist spots and improve safety, amenities, services and structures.
East-West Ferry
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn has extended a warm word of thanks and gratitude to the thousands of tourists who maintained their confidence in visiting Thailand in the aftermath of the August incidents in the Southern parts of the country. He also thanked the entire Thai private sector for their show of unity in the face of adversity. “We would like to thank everyone in the tourism sector who has contributed to the revival of Thailand’s tourism. This includes the tourists worldwide who still keep coming to our destinations as well as both the private and governmental sectors who have unitedly given their hands in restoring the situation back to normal in a short time.” Visitor arrival statistics in the immediate aftermath of the attacks in various parts of Thailand indicated just a small percentage drop, which lasted exactly a week. As of August 19, arrivals began increasing again. It is expected that the arrivals will fluctuate over the next few days but return to steady growth by September. TAT is optimistic that the projected arrival of 33 million visitors this year can be met. Among some of the highprofile visits and events that
have proceeded normally are: – A Phuket call by the Pacific Eden cruise ship, with 1,343 passengers and 620 crew members. Phuket was one of the major destinations of Pacific Eden’s one-month inaugural sailing in Asia. – The Travel Managers Conference from Australia, comprising 230 participants to join the team-building, and workshop activities during 19-21 August, 2016, at the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong in Bangkok. – Among Japanese travellers, several pre-booked school tours from Japan have gone ahead as planned with organisers expressing full confidence in the safety and security of the Kingdom. Yuthasak credited several factors for this minimal impact, but cited the positive force of social media as playing a large role. “It is clear that visitors no longer just rely on mainstream news delivered via TV and print for their information. Social media networks can also
be used effectively to provide accurate and updated news,” he added. “We did this well via our in-house crisis management channels at TAT. I am happy to report that our private sector, which has a very high stake in warding off cancellations, also did a good job. The thousands of visitors who were in Thailand at the time were also able to make use of their own social media channels to communicate the all-clear.” He noted that all the various recovery campaigns would remain in place, especially those targeted at women visitors in this month marking the auspicious 84th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. “We look forward to communicating a strong business-as-usual message at all the international travel trade events over the course of the rest of the year. And once more, we thank all our visitors, security agencies and the private sector for their support and confidence in Thailand.”

Of the 850 children and students who are currently living and being educated at the Father Ray Foundation, only a small minority ever met Father Ray Brennan. A few of the long-term residents at the Children’s Home remember him, several staff members at the vocational school have fond memories and a handful of blind students have a vague recollection of Father Ray. But while most have no recollection at all of him, they all know who he is and what he did for them. Each morning the toddlers at the Day Care Center thank Father Ray in their pre-lunch prayers. The youngsters at the Children’s Village and Children’s Home wai to his statue on the way to school
each morning and the blind and disabled students regularly pay their respect to the founder of their schools Father Ray died 13 years ago, in August 2003, and each year this month has become known as Father Ray Month, which sees the children and students from all projects come together to remember and celebrate the life of the man whose dedication to the needy in Pattaya changed the lives of thousands. This year it all started with the opening ceremony, which saw a large crowd gather to watch as Father Peter, current president of the Foundation, clean and decorate the statue of Father Ray. Early one morning nine monks arrived from a local Buddhist temple to receive alms from the students with
disabilities in the hope of making merit for Father Ray. The Thai Red Cross arrived to collect blood, all in the name of Father Ray, and more than 35 liters of the red stuff was collected. The closing ceremony of Father Ray Month saw a party atmosphere where the children of all ages and the students with different disabilities all sang and danced together along to songs. They watched several dance performances, traditional and modern, two blind youngsters got the crowd screaming with their rendition of a Thai pop song and there were prizes for the best money trees. It all came to an end with a candlelight ceremony, which thankfully this year saw not a single child rushed to the clinic to be treated for small
burns. As the candles were lit, those gathered said a prayer of thanks to Father Ray, even though most never got to meet the man. A memorial mass at St. Nikolaus Catholic Church saw many listening to the service outside as there was no more room inside the church. But once the service was over the gathered crowd made their way to the cemetery where they paraded past Father Ray’s final resting place. It was here that one little boy, nine years of age and a new resident at the Children’s Home, made his way to the front of the crowd, and standing in front of the grave, with a bag of noodles tucked under his arm, he waied, bowed his head and laid down a single red rose. Thank you Father Ray.

As we enter the building on the ground floor, past Starbucks and S&P Bakery, we arrive at the Orthopaedic Clinic with a circular nurse station where we meet a specialized Vejthani physician Dr Krit Prugsawan, orthopedic foot & ankle surgeon with a Thai Board of Orthopedic Diploma and Clinical Fellowship Certificate from University Hospital Basel, 2014. Dr Krit tells us about his speciality and successful total ankle replacement operations for patients suffering from painful ankle arthritis and allied deformity conditions. “My clinical fellowship was at Basel University Hospital, Switzerland one of the leading foot & ankle arthroplasty research hospitals in

Europe," he says. "The implants for the ankle replacement implants we use here are Swiss made." He adds that spinal block is a standard procedure since there is less nausea than from general anesthesia and patients generally also awaken faster. A testimonial: ”The patient, a 25 year old seaman from the United Arab Emirates who was seriously injured in a machine room explosion with extensive blast and burn wound in his right ankle. At the UAE government hospital an amputation was planned. A Filipino nurse recommended Vejthani in Thailand. A referral was made and the patient arrived in Bangkok. Dr. Krit and his team performed a successful ankle soft tissue and bone reconstruction and the young man was saved from a debilitating foot and ankle amputation”. Next door we meet Dr Chatchapol Thanarak, a noticeably fit orthopaedic and sport medicine physician with advanced diplomas in both specialities. His expertise is knee and shoulder arthroscopy. "Treatment of torn ligaments, ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) cases, and shoulder dislocation are some ailments we treat here," he explains. On his desk is a soft plastic anatomical model of the shoulder displaying all bones and muscles. A testimonial: ”The patient, a 25 year old from United Arab Emirates who suffered from ACL injury after playing soccer. A referral was made and the patient arrived at Vejthani. Dr. Chatchapol and his team performed a successful ACL reconstruction by Arthroscope and the man was able to walk after 2 weeks, and could resume his daily running activities after 3 months and play soccer again after 6 months.

STARS RESTAURANT BAR @ COCO CLUB Dine with the Stars… Coco Club is a unique lifestyle destination. It boasts eight villas nestling in a mature garden, a 1,000 sq. metre covered sports area and the only covered lawn bowl facility in the country. Firmly at the helm are its co-founding partners Sue and Derek Bryant who both share a love of good food and lawn bowling, Sue being a proud member of the Thailand national team. Set in the rural Huay Yai countryside, near to Phoenix Golf Club, the resort is firmly established with the local community and ex pats in the area. Coco Club is a singular destination offering all the comforts of home in their eight 80 sq. m. villas, a long comfy bar and a full restaurant complex. Wander through the gardens past the pool and you will discover their newly kitted out sports facility. Fully covered and green carpeted, it is the perfect setting for all sports fans. Ten different sports are catered for: lawn bowls, short bowls, croquet, Bocca, petanque, floor skittles, table skittles, darts, American pool and for the more sedate players, chess.
CRISPY SALMON IN BLACK PEPPER
The restaurant-cum bar area has recently been renamed “Stars” which is reflected in the host of framed posters of stars of yesteryear that adorn the walls. At the nerve centre of Coco’s restaurant is Chef Sue who indelibly implants her own twist on the dishes that leave this kitchen. The day time concept (11.00 am to 5.00 pm) is an eclectic mix of
much loved snacks and desserts enjoyed by the rich and famous. For instance, the “Elvis Presley” is that famed sandwich comprising of peanut butter, banana and bacon, which according to many of his biographers he fastidiously liked to eat with a knife and fork. The “Harry Potter” is of course treacle tart while the “Humphrey Bogart” is his favourite tucker of ham,
STUFFED STEAMED SQUID
egg and chips. All these adored dishes of the stars are interesting and appealing and only B.100. The “Batman” is described as a nacho surprise and the favourite of the sweet Audrey Hepburn is a chocolate and vanilla ice cream with maple syrup. There are ten of these celebrity munchies with the “Paul McCartney” offering mashed potatoes, diced onions, a chip butty and eggs for a hearty fix of the best of British all on one plate. House wines are only B.80 by the glass or a small or large carafe comes in at B.160 and B.295 respectively. A full range of soft drinks and proprietary brands of beers and spirits are also available. The dinner menu (from 6.00 till 9.00 pm – with last orders at 8.00 pm), is a delicious, diverse listing with a whole opening page of tapas style appetisers all priced at an extraordinary B.80. We enjoyed a tasting menu recently and chose prawns in sizzling butter and crab salad canapé with garlic sesame dressing to launch the proceedings. The prawns are served in an escargot inspired clay dish to perfectly house the sweet prawns swimming in their garlickly butter just calling out for the joy of bread dunking. Four crisp canapés are loaded with fresh crab and salad and then dressed with a vibrant garlic/sesame emulsion for an extra kick. Prawn cocktail is listed as is wrapped smoked salmon with seafood dressing and chilli con carne with nachos and yes, they are all only B.80. The
main courses are again an eclectic international mix the likes of BBQ chicken tikka with rotis and garlic rice rubbing shoulders with minced lamb steak with mashed potato (B.200) or duck breast with mango salsa at B.200. Mick chose from the Thai menu while I plumped for the crispy salmon in black pepper. The skin had been crisped to crackling and served as a decorative spear over the salmon fillet cut into two pieces. It was truly delicious. Not a huge portion but adequate for the richness of the dish. Across the table Mick was tucking into his choice of steamed squid stuffed with minced pork in chilli sauce which he pronounced first rate with it’s tender white flesh and zingy sauce. All the tried and tested Thai dishes are highlighted but served with Sue’s unique twist. Chicken massaman, prawns in sour soup with baby sunflowers, spaghetti tom yam kung and more. Prices are in the B.150 range. Apple strudel and ice cream would be a fitting end to your meal. Reservations are essential for dinner so a little forward planning is needed to enjoy dining with the stars at Coco Club. How to get there Drive out on Sukhumvit Highway towards Sattahip and take the turning to Phoenix Golf Club. Follow the road to the right and you will see signs for Coco Club. Tel: 084 867 7299 or 087 135 8357 or visit www.cococlub.biz Reservations essential for the restaurant, email: reservation@ cococlub.biz. Pickup service available. Closed Mondays.

DRIFTERS BEACH CAFÉ (DBC)
Feel the sand between your toes and the tropical sun on your face while enjoying one of the best pizzas in town, say Mick and Di. Eclectic retro rock, frosty beers, perfect thin crust pizzas, jugs of Margaritas and an ace beach location to dream about make Drifters Beach Café one of the area's funkiest fun bar-cum-eateries. Nestling on a quiet stretch of Na Jomtien Beach close to the Pinnacle Hotel, it would be hard to improve on this laid back beach bar. No invasive super sized flat screens here – just the wide blue yonder, mountains and ocean and the perfect place to kick back and forget your troubles for an hour or two. It certainly ticks all our boxes: an ambiance so laid back it’s horizontal, a backdrop of tropical paradise proportions, craft beers to slake the thirst and beyond borders chow. DBC came about circa 2000 when a group of boat heads would park their ski boats in the water in front of a ramshackle beach hut. They would ski and wakeboard down to the Bang Saray Club finding driftwood on the way which they would then tow back slowly to base to build the bar. It was named after that driftwood and also the friends that would drift in and out of each others lives. From humble origins it is now a thriving business complete with the five story Drifter’s Apartments. It is Australian Tony Trail’s baby who with his partner, Mon, run a tight ship and cook amazing pizzas. DBC’s co-ordinates are posted at the neighbouring marina and yacht club which periodically results in flotillas of sailing boats (The Drifter Dash) descending on their sandy doorstep to enjoy the hearty victuals and many cold ones before heading back to the club. What’s on the menu? It all started with pizzas and they are undoubtedly still the best sellers. Over the years they have been perfected, honed and refined with the choice of toppings diverse and atypical. Choices from their 20long list include the quintessential Margherita (B.220) through prosciutto with mushrooms, seafood with crab, prawns and mozzarella,
but our favourite (until we tasted the new crab and smoked salmon) was vegetarian with tomatoes, olives, garlic, onion, rocket, bell peppers and mushrooms but with our “Food Lovers” hats on we ordered it with extra salami! Hawaiian is another top seller but they are all much in demand from 11.00 am until after well after the setting sun. Aussies love their pies and Tony caters for his fellow antipodeans with a choice of seven ranging from the much loved mince through steak and potato, steak and kidney, or steak and mushroom, chicken and mushroom and two vegetarian options all priced at B.185. Quick bites (Small Stuff) offer crispy corn nachos topped with cheese and Jalapeno peppers (B.145), fat tasty sausage rolls, potato wedges, chicken wings and more. While for heartier fare there’s three types of pastas (carbonara, Napolitana and Bolognaise) and “Mains ‘n Stodge” include a robust beef stew (B.220), chilli beans and a trio of hot dogs with various sauces. Thai food is not forgotten and Tom Yam Kung, Tom Kaa Gai, Massaman and a Penang chicken curry are hot favourites.
When Mick and I visited the other week, Mon served us a selection of the latest additions to the menu including their new pizza. The floods having subsided it was a clear, bright night to enjoy the wafting ozone and a delicate new moon. We kicked off our DBC dining with a buffalo mozzarella and a fresh tomato salad (B.150), and a substantial serving of chilli cheese fries. Sizzling hot chips are topped with chilli beans, molten cheese and sour cream, pukka tucker if ever there was! The latest from their portfolio of pizzas then hit the table, smoked salmon, crab and mozzarella (B.440). Creamy cheese makes such good friends with smoked salmon and here they are joined by soft sweet crab meat with a touch of salinity - it was a winning combination. The demand for craft beers has soared recently and DBC has taken in this trend and is now stocking premium craft beers from the across the globe including America and Japan plus a whole range of stouts, porters and IPA’s. This is a true bonza place, no pretensions here, just great food, convivial company and a happy
Drifters Nachos
atmosphere. In truth, this is just about the most relaxed place in the world to nurse a beer and watch the kite surfers cruise by. How to get there: Located on Na Jomtien Beach just past the Kilometer 154 marker and Wat Na Jomtien. Heading south from Jomtien on Sukhunvit Highway make a U-turn after the Shell station on your right. Soi 8 is marked for the Pinnacle Hotel. Follow the road to the bottom and turn right. 500 metres on the left hand side you will see. Drifter’s Beach Café. Tel: 087 743 2319 Open daily (except Mondays) from 11.00 am to 10.00 pm.

Liposuction by Thonglor Clinic
The eternal question: Do I look fat in these jeans? After many years of overindulging at the table, it gets harder and harder to avoid those love handles, to prevent that muffin top over the pants, to keep the belly from hiding the southern regions. And most of us who have tried to diet know about the yo-yo effect. As the years go by, it is also more and more difficult to adhere to an exercise regimen that counters extra calories. The calories keep climbing along with our weight—ensuring our clothes don’t quite fit any longer. How do we get fat? Adipose cells store fat. When we are young, energy is transformed into muscle and growth occurs. Once we have reached adulthood, the extra energy absorbed is then transformed into fatty tissue. Fat cells do not multiply, they only get larger. Many techniques are used to reduce their size, cause the cells’ death and atrophy.
Liposuction is a very safe and effective way to achieve this. Once the fat cells are removed from an area, they cannot come back at the same site. You can still get fatter but you will be fatter all over not at the site where the liposuction has been performed. Localized liposuction is an effective way to sculpt the body and reshape the stubborn areas that diet or exercise cannot improve. The process involves the infiltration of an anesthetic fluid under the skin over the area demarcated by the surgeon. During this process, the fatty layer is whipped by the mechanical movement of the probe, inserted through a very small incision. The area is rendered numb (anesthetized). The area also looks whiter than the rest because the fluid also contains a drug that prevents bleeding and causes the small blood vessels to constrict during the surgery. Once the surgeon is satisfied with the anesthetic/infiltration process, and that the patient is comfortable, the aspiration process is started. The
liposuction occurs as the probe has a rotational movement and aspirates the fat as well as some of the anesthetic fluid. The end result is a reduction of the fatty layer between the muscle and the skin without damaging the connective tissue (the mesh that holds the skin in contact with the muscle layer). The movement of the surgeon reminds us of a violin because the surgeon goes over and over the area to achieve a smooth finish with no irregularities. The process is repeated over all the areas demarcated during
the initial consultation as problem areas. The problematic areas can be almost anywhere. Arms circumference can be diminished. Abdominal lower fat pads can be removed. Love handles can be eliminated. Hips and thighs can be reshaped. Saddle bags on the outside of the thighs can be reduced. Double chins can be attenuated. Large breasts in men can be minimized. Six packs sculpted. A thorough consultation with the surgeon prior to the surgery will
determine the extent of the surgery and all post-operative questions will be answered. As the process is done under local anesthesia it reduces chance of surgical complications. Immediately after surgery the patient must wear a compression garment for 2-4 weeks to assure optimum results. If you are contemplating liposuction, you must stop taking aspirin for 10 days prior to the surgery to prevent any clotting problems. Post operatively, there is only minor discomfort, with some bruising over the area present for one week and this disappears quickly. In brief, liposuction is a very good option for body reshaping without too much down time if you are in Thailand for a holiday. You can still enjoy the beautiful Thai cuisine with a clear conscience! Thonglor Clinic – Pattaya is conveniently situated on Thappraya Road. For more information or to book for a free consultation contact 038 252 055.

Radio Frequency for Skin Tightening
Pattaya’s Delight
If you’re looking for ways to tighten your skin without the extended healing time, pain, and expense of cosmetic surgery, you may want to consider radio frequency skin tightening. This procedure, which is relatively very good, is a non-surgical option for people who want to treat wrinkles, sagging of the skin, and other signs of aging. Radio by Dr. Natnicha Loichuen frequency skin tightening is performed by dermatologists and skin care clinics, and uses radio frequency (RF) energy on the skin of the face, heating up the various skin layers to stimulate collagen production, which smoothes and lifts the skin’s surface. This procedure requires no incisions to be made in the skin and has a low instance of side effects. Radio frequency skin tightening is a viable procedure for many people whose skin has not reacted favorably to laser or

thermal treatments in the past. While you may have never heard of radio frequency skin tightening before, this skin care treatment has gained popularity with some dermatologists, as the waves are said to reshape and “teach” the skin to behave as it should. Dermatologists and skin care clinics that offer their patients anti-aging treatments most often use RF waves to rejuvenate the skin of the face, but can also use it on other parts of the body. The RF waves experience natural resistance from the skin as they penetrate the various layers, and just like an electrical wire becomes hot from the resistance to the flow of electrons, the skin heats up from the resistance to the RF waves. This heat helps boost collagen strength within the skin. The more collagen that is produced, the tighter the skin becomes. This procedure serves as mini Thermage.

Berries in particular contain three nutrients -- vitamin C, which promotes DNA repair; inflammationfighting phenolics; and resveratrol, an antioxidant -- making them a powerful ally in fighting the signs of aging. Other effective anti-aging foods include grape juice, red wine, peanuts and cocoa. To achieve glowing skin you need foods that are rich in carotenoids, such as raw kale. Use the vegetable in salads, soups or in pasta. Also high in carotenoids are carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes and
mango. When it comes to protecting your skin, opt for vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage caused by ultraviolet light. This vitamin may also play a role as an anti-inflammatory. Vitamin E is especially important for aging skin, as concentration of the vitamin in skin declines with age. Nuts, and specifically almonds, are an excellent source of vitamin E and contain the highest amount per ounce of all tree nuts. Not to be overlooked are wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, peanut butter and spinach. There also is evidence that other skin healthy foods may include fatty fish, such as salmon and sardines, as well as walnuts, beets, apples, tea, onions, cranberries, dark chocolate and ground flax, hemp and chia seeds. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to stay properly hydrated. Even mild dehydration may cause your skin to look dry and tired. Drink plenty of water and, after showering, apply moisturizer to trap water in the skin and help reduce the appearance of some fine lines and brighten your complexion.

Aspirin can help combat acne. Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) is an antiinflammatory drug, which makes it perfect to use for dealing with stubborn pimples. Plus, salicylic acid — a common ingredient in acne medications — is also in aspirin. Use it topically. Make a paste to apply to your zits by adding a small amount of water to a crushed pill. Leave the paste on the affected areas for 10 minutes or so, and then wash off.

Ultimaker 3D Printer Backpack Sony Glass Sound Speaker
Samsung Galaxy Note7 Smartphone Like fingerprints, your eyes are unique to you. With the Samsung Galaxy Note7 Smartphone, you can use either one to unlock your device or authenticate purchases. In addition to the extra security features, this mammoth phone has a water-resistant body and S Pen with a smaller, more sensitive tip, a new Gear VR headset designed specifically for it, and the 5.7-inch Quad HD dual-edge Super AMOLED screen that's become the model's calling card.
Seem impossibly cheap for a 3D printer? That's because it is. The Ultimaker 3D Printer Backpack doesn't actually include the company's US$1,200 Ultimaker 2 Go printer. But it does make it easy to carry one around. Both the backpack and the printer are light, so it's not much strain on your back, the interior has space for tools, and it's quite rugged, so you can take it on a bike/subway/plane with confidence that you'll look like the super nerd of all super nerds.
It doesn't look like any other speaker. That's entirely on purpose. The Sony Glass Sound Speaker is meant to provide both music and lighting for your next gathering. For sound, it has a glass tube tweeter that emits audio in every direction, a translucent passive bass radiator, a 2-inch woofer for midrange, and LDAC Bluetooth for excellent audio quality, while the glass tube allows a candlelight glow to escape the built-in LEDs. Available exclusively at MoMA.

Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course is the first privately owned golf club in Thailand, founded by the late Dr. Thaworn Phornprapha, originally designed by I. Izumi. The golf course opened in 1971, and had hosted the Thailand Open 4 times together with many Asian Golf Circuits, and most recently after the renovation in 2007, became home of the LPGA in Thailand since 2007. The golf course and clubhouse underwent a complete renovation in 2006, and opened in March 2007. A sister golf course is also simultaneously built nearby with its own clubhouse, called Siam Country Club Pattaya Plantation. Lee Schmidt of Schmidt & Curley Design Inc. took on the redesign the Old Course but kept the original routing of I. Izumi and many of the old characters. Bunkers are added for a modern esthetic look, feel and landscape. Seashore Paspalum is chosen for fairway grass and Novotek for greens. Despite a new look, the Old Course remains a classic traditional tree line with many fond memories of the past. Classic,
Siam Country Club Old Course beauty, and challenge are what the Old Course is known for today in Thailand. Just like the golf course, the clubhouse also had a 100 percent complete refurbishment. Utilizing the old structure, modern comforts are added while maintaining a soft executive touch and feel. The restaurant, overlooking the 18th hole (only 50 yd), enjoys spectacular view of the golf course, can host up to 180 guests, and is the best place to be at the end of the round. hills. Views of the golf course and its surround undulating terrain can be seen from almost every corner of the clubhouse. From the front balcony, view of the only “Triple Greens,” in Asia, 3 greens of 3 golf holes occupying almost 3,000 square meters is a memorable sight. Inside the clubhouse, ample space and modern style decorations of the locker rooms, restaurant, and proshop together with well-trained staffs is second to none. Whether the Old Course or Plantation, the distinction is obvious both in the clubhouse and golf course styles. However, the same philosophy of qualities and services are identical. The addition of a new 18-hole Siam Country Club Pattaya Waterside will showcase another style of the same philosophy. Country Club Pattaya Waterside In May 2014, Siam Country Club launches a new golf course project, Siam Country Club Pattaya
Waterside. The Waterside will feature Waterfront and Friendly golf course concepts, 18-hole, par 72, 7454 yards covering the area of 525 rai (200 acres) but will hold the same championship qualities of the successes of the Old Course (18-hole) and Plantation (27-hole) on the property next door, which are already renowned golf courses among the best in Asia Pacific. The course will be designed by IMG Golf Course Design, one of the world renowned golf course architect and expert in world sport and event managements, and will regenerate and enhance the property worthy of future domestic and international investment. Strict environment cares, esthetic beauty, challenge and friendly play are the emphasis of the Waterside design with the absolute distinct differences from the famous Old Course and Plantation. Golfers will experience creation of design in harmony with nature. With many water-feature holes, Signature Hole will be a memorable one. Course design will be strategic with locations of lakes and creeks in play. The back tee will challenge the best. At the same time, the regular tee will offer enjoyment for all golfers. Let’s not forget the charm, well manner, and knowledgeable caddies of Siam Country Club who will make your day memorable. Much emphasis have been given to challenge golfers and, most important, happiness at the end of the day. Highlight of the Waterside will also include the clubhouse with 180 degree view of the beauty of the course, lakes, creeks and landscape blending with natural surroundings.

Legal Advice
LEGAL ADVICE
by Magna Carta Law Office
MEDIATION IN THAILAND What is Mediation? Mediation is a form of dispute resolution facilitated by a neutral third person who assists the disputing parties in finding mutually acceptable solutions. It gives the parties the opportunity to discuss and clear their issues and find areas of agreement. If the parties reach an amicable solution, they may enter into a binding and enforceable compromise agreement. Who can act as a Mediator? The mediator is the neutral third person whom the parties agree to help facilitate their negotiation to achieve an amicable solution. The mediator facilitates the negotiation process without making the decision on the issue as the outcome rests solely on the decision of the disputing parties. In the court-annexed mediation, the mediator may be a lay qualified person. What are the types of Mediation? 1. Out-of-Court Mediation is the mediation of a pre - litigation dispute. Even though a plaint has been filed and the dispute is during the litigation process, the disputing parties can also agree to carry out the mediation without any court involvement. 2. Court-Annexed Mediation is the mediation conducted while the cases are still pending in court. It is a dispute resolution mechanism that can enable a convenient, speedy and efficient settlement. The disputing parties may achieve a mutually satisfactory settlement in which there is no loser or winner from the outcome. Both parties can emerge as the winner with a win-win solution that can preserve their longterm relationship. The outcome of the Court-Annexed Mediation can be stated in the compromise agreement and issued by the court. This agreement acts as the court’s order. In case there is any party who fails to comply with this agreement, the other party can start the legal execution process immediately. What are the advantages of Mediation? In some circumstances, mediation may be preferable to filing a lawsuit. Mediation provides many significant advantages, including the following: 1. Greater Control and Flexibility. In mediation, the parties are in control of the negotiation
process and have a greater flexibility in attaining a solution suitable for the parties’ needs. 2. Preserves relationship between the disputing parties. Mediation can help preserve business and personal relationships, that would likely be destroyed through years of litigation. Because mediation isn’t naturally a win/lose process and because it is a mutual, rather than oppositional process, important relationships can often be saved. 3. Confidential. Mediation is normally confidential. The parties participating in a mediation process usually agree to confidentiality of the process, and not to use the information that is known to them during the mediation for other purposes such as in the litigation. Any evidence used during mediation cannot be disclosed. 4. Minimizing appeal cases. Mediation reduces the number of appeal cases as the disputes are settled. 5. Compliance. Compliance with an enforceable settlement agreement is generally higher than with lawsuits. What kinds of disputes are suitable for Mediation? 1. Civil and commercial disputes, including consumer cases such as loan, buy and sell, mortgage, revoked transaction, hire of work, tort, breach of contract, etc. 2. Compoundable criminal disputes such as embezzlement, fraud, defraud creditor, libel, etc. 3. Other disputes which can be settled through mediation or a criminal case that civilian is a complainant, such as careless driving, battery, forgery, theft, receiving stolen property, etc. Reference: Mediation Center of Court (Pattaya Provincial Court)

Youth Focus Reading, writing and the developing brain by Elsa Zeeman
Reading and writing are advanced processes Getting information from an arrangement of visual symbols and getting your ideas and thoughts on paper by producing an arrangement of symbols are complicated processes that only the human brain is capable of. These processes require mature brain parts that will allow you to perceive shapes, space and word sounds. You also need mature brain parts allowing you to produce shapes and dots with your hands and fingers. To support the proper functioning of these processes, you also require soundly developed connections between different parts of the brain for the integration of information. In addition you need a stable body to sit comfortably and knowledge of where your body parts are in space.
Left brain functioning The left brain hemisphere matures later than the right brain hemisphere. The left brain contains essential components for reading and writing, as well as important interconnections between these brain parts. These connections allow one to imagine the visual image as well as the sound, smell, taste and touch sensations that might be associated with a word or phrase. These connections start to mature from age 5 to 8 (girls earlier than boys). Right brain functioning In the right brain are areas involved with recognizing shape and space, as well as memory areas for shape and space. These enable one to read short words and high frequency words, by just recognizing the shapes of the words.
Left and right brain connections Fo r t h e re a d i n g a n d writing processes to run smoothly, good connections between the left and right brain hemispheres are also necessary. These connections become appropriate for reading and writing when the child can use the left and right sides of his/her body together in a coordinated way. This also happens from age 5 to 8. Therefore it makes sense to start with formal reading and writing by age 6 to 7. “Reading” too early When children are taught to read before their brains are ready for it, they use only the more mature parts of their brains (right brain parts) to name the shapes of the letters and words. They are not able to analyse the words into sounds (phonics), nor are they able to understand what they read. “Writing” too early As to writing, they are only able to copy. When they manage to write a word from memory, they do so without real understanding. Sadly, many of these children continue to read and write in this way, because their brains built connections to do it in this ineffective way. Usually these kids grow up to hate reading and writing and they will have a hard time spelling words. They might need special assistance
like occupational therapy and remedial teaching to rectify the damage that has been done to them. Preparation versus forced “learning” Furthermore: you need many more hours to teach a child with an immature brain to read, than it would take to teach a child who is mentally and physically ready and eager to read. Those hours could be spent much better by PREPARING the young child’s brain for reading and writing. That’s why the teachers at MIS allow the preschoolers to engage in lots of sensory and gross motor activities. These activities will lead to proper maturation of the brain and body. Pre-reading and pre-writing skills We engage in singing, rhymes, discussions and role play to develop the little students’ language abilities. We nurture their love for books
Stunning exam results for GIS students by Mark Beales Photos by Ritche Guisona Students from Garden International School (GIS) have been celebrating some spectacular IGCSE results. The IGCSEs are the world's leading qualification for 16-year-olds. GIS students took these examinations in May and the results have just been announced. Among the star students was Shilpi, who was awarded 7A*s and 1 A. Getting an identical number of grades was Seren. Also doing brilliantly were Jignil and Shomit, who were both awarded 5A*s and 3As. In total, 75 per cent of all entries were awarded a C grade or higher. The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is run by Cambridge University and is the world's leading examination for 16-year-olds. GIS is the most established IGCSE centre in the region. The school's
results are regularly far above the global average. In addition, several Year 10 students took IGCSE Mathematics a year early, and all passed, while some Year 9 students took IGCSE English as a Second Language (ESL) – and had a 100 per cent success rate. Stokes, IGCSE coordinator, said: "These amazing results show the dedication of both our talented students and our teachers. The IGCSE is a major examination and we are very proud that GIS has again shown its results are well above average. To have so many subjects achieve 100 per cent pass rates is remarkable. We are also delighted that so many of these students have stayed and have now started the IB Diploma Programme with a view to continuing their studies at world class universities in the future.” Mark Beales is assistant head of Secondary at Garden International School.

read and write, once they are in Year 1. It i s o f t h e u t m o s t importance to prepare our children in the correct way to make them competent, enthusiastic readers and writers for life.

This & That Popular Conspiracy Theories Mankind has long believed that extraterrestrial beings of one sort and another might be visiting us. In ancient Greece, Socrates was forced to commit suicide because he corrupted young people with the heresy that the Gods are nonsense. Some have even argued that Stonehenge or
the pyramids of Egypt were built with supernatural assistance. It’s comforting to imagine that aliens visiting our planet are well-intentioned. Perhaps they want to rescue us from the threat of nuclear war or teach us to be brothers in the wider cosmos. Everybody remembers
Aliens might want to eat us alive
cuddly aliens such as ET who only needed a bit of help returning to his own world. But not everybody is so sure about benign visitors. Stephen Hawkins has reminded us that there are perhaps 100 billion universes, so the chances of extraterrestrial life out there are very strong. Hawkins thinks that we should not be trying to contact alien life but, rather, to be avoiding it at all costs. Those beings from outer space could well want to exploit or enslave us. Shawn Domagal-Goldman of Nasa’s planetary science division has compiled a list of plausible outcomes that could be useful if a close encounter does occur. Yes, we could be lucky. The space creatures could be kind and helpful, but that is not a foregone conclusion. For example, if there is a shortage of food in the cosmos, aliens might even come here to eat us. That was the theme of the 1980s TV miniseries “V” in which
birds and small mammals were initially the favourite food for the carnivorous, reptilian humanoids. However, these lizards took to swallowing people whole for the main course in later episodes. Or the visitors could be bringing, accidentally or on purpose, diseases which our biological make-up could not resist. Humanity could be wiped out when a more advanced civilization released an unfriendly artificial intelligence or performed a catastrophic physics experiment which rendered parts of our particular galaxy uninhabitable. In the most extreme case, aliens might decide to destroy us because we are a threat to them. Planet Earth is fast becoming an environmental disaster with greenhouse gases in danger of getting out of control, leading to a total environmental disaster. “Green” aliens might object to the environmental damage we have caused on our own planet and extermi-
nate us to prevent our pollution spreading. Extraterrestrials could well be wary of civilizations that expand too quickly as they may be prone to destroying other life as they grow, just as humans are pushing our own species to extinction here on Earth. Aliens could notice that we are now probing space and even intending to populate our nearby planets with our own kind. If so, we will doubtless export our damaging environmental policies as well. Somebody or something out there may decide that
enough is enough and annihilate us for good. So if we do make contact with other civilizations, we should not rush to conclusions about what lies in store. Aliens may just be passing through or curious to learn our languages or feeling lonely and wanting to make friends. Equally, they might come in the guise of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse with only death on their minds. In which case we can all stop worrying about rising prices, the cost of medical insurance and what to do when the pubs are shut.

Secrets of happy couples: 7 tried-and-tested bliss-makers you must know for a happy, lifelong-lasting marriage When you are out on the town, have you ever noticed couples that seem to be perfect together? They share private jokes, gazing into each others’ eyes and have been that way for years! How do they do it? What is their secret at maintaining a happy, wonderful relationship? Let’s take a look at some secrets that happy couples swear by: 1. Spending Time Together There is absolutely nothing as powerful as spending quality time together. When couples make time to spend together, it reaffirms their commitment to each other. And by spending time together, it means no kids, no pets and no interruptions. Also, sharing activities that both enjoy is priceless. 2. Sweat The Small Stuff Little things that couples do for each other (or do not) do speak volumes in a relationship. Small gestures like opening a car door or complimenting each other should never go unnoticed. It’s the small things that make the biggest difference. Research has shown that we need to incorporate 5 positive interactions just to negate that 1 negative interaction. So, stay positive in your relationship! 3. Having an Open Dialogue Sharing your feelings and listening to each other will bring couples closer together. While ears and lips are essential for communicating, a little stolen smooch here and there goes a long way too! Communication is an unbelievably strong agent for bonding together. 4. Honesty Mistrust is one of the biggest relationship busters out there. Once trust has been broken or lost, there is very little hope in regaining it. If you have something to say that might not go along well with your mate, you must get it off your chest, even if it’s something that involves criticizing; It is how you say it to him that can make a difference (in determining whether not the issue will be resolved or will it result in a “cold war” between the both of you). We all have little quirks that irritate, so you need to decide whether it’s worth getting into or just accept it as part of your mate’s endearing qualities.
5. Scheduled Lovemaking Some might feel that scheduling intimacy is just cold, actually it’s not. It sure beats having none at all! In the busy world we live in, sometimes this is the only way it’s gonna happen! As the saying goes: “Use It or Lose It”, is truer than you might think. Testosterone levels will start dropping and eventually you will just not have any interest whatsoever. Got Kids? Find a family member or friend that will take them for an evening. Don’t let your kids control your relationship. 6. Some Problems Can’t Be Solved
7. Laughter Laughter is one of the healthiest reactions humans have and should use regularly. In a happy relationship, laughter should hold the top spot. Always keep a sense of humor within your relationship, as it plays a big part in a truly joyful matrimony. Many Psychotherapists refer to laughter as “the Krazy Glue that keeps couples together”. Laughter is good for the sole, and if you can no longer laugh together, then the sole of your relationship is dead.

Aquarius (Jan23-Feb22) You have been advised to let your inner passions guide you in order to make a favourable impression on the world. But this advice is very bad in your case as your inner passions are absolutely disgusting and could bring you a long prison sentence. You may find later this week that you suddenly have older and younger admirers. Do not be fooled as they are interested only in your money. P i s c e s ( Fe b 2 3 - M a r 2 2 ) Be extra careful today and tomorrow in what you say to other people lest they be offended and shun you. This is because you use too many swear words and frequently give obscene gestures during the course of ordinary conversations. For these reasons it is highly improbable that you will ever be elected to a position of high public office and you should take up a solitary hobby to pass the time. Aries (Mar23-Apr22) As Neptune is unusually hot at the moment, it is likely that you will become the object of sexual desire from somebody of the opposite sex. This is not a lot of use to most Aries who are gay by and large. Money matters may improve for a few days but this will abruptly end when the bank finds out they made an error in crediting you cash which belongs to somebody else. Taurus (Apr23-May22) An inheritance from a will looks likely in the near future but it’s a bad sign that Mars is facing the wrong way at the moment. Be prepared for something going wrong such as the will not being properly signed or huge lawyers’ fees which will swallow what you expected to draw. You are looking forward to romantic interludes which is fair enough but your partner may be extremely ugly. Gemini (May23-Jun22) The stars are saying that you are far too self-opinionated and should start collecting information and feedback from your personal and business acquaintances. This will be most difficult in your case as you have been out of work for years and have no friends whatsoever. You have little chance of making progress in the world until you have a permanent address and wash more frequently. Cancer (Jun23-Jul22) You need to find new ways to delight your lover as you are far too predictable when it comes to sex. If you are a man, remember that the best way to make a woman say ‘yes’ is to buy her a new car or to pay for extensive plastic surgery. Beware of talking to strangers on public transport as they will realize what a complete nerd you really are.
There will always be some issues that cannot be solved because you just can’t agree. Instead of wasting valuable energy, “agree to disagree”. Try and find a compromising position that works for both of you. All couples run into legitimate areas of disagreement. A happy relationship is built on working through these issues. Learn to compromise, change or decide if the entire issue is just not that important, let it go.

(Jul23-Aug22) The work Leo related stress you constantly
talk about is about to be resolved once and for all when you receive your redundancy payment. Do be careful when going into pubs in your area as the stars are predicting large numbers of transvestites are interested in you or your wallet. When applying to a new job, keep optimistic but try to omit the parts of your life which were spent in detention. Virgo (Aug23-Sep22) As you are always in need of extra cash there is a strong indication that a sideline will bring you in extra resources, provided you are not caught by the long arm of the law. Try to improve your social standing by mixing with a better class of person, but you will have to be more careful how you dress. Wearing one black and one brown shoe is a poor strategy and you should not use cotton buds during a job interview. Libra (Sep23-Oct22) All that glitters might not actually be gold and, in any case, you need to put in a lot more effort to obtain it. You should not even consider for a moment trying to rob a jewelry store in broad daylight unless you can distinguish quality from trash. Since you have never made this distinction before in your life, the chances of your achieving this now are no better than zero. Scorpio (Oct23-Nov22) You should try to view opposition as a challenge and not try to injure everybody whom you disagree with. Your problem is that you are too anxious to take charge but are not prepared to put in the hard work to achieve the success you crave. Mussolini was a Scorpio and he ended up being hanged upside down at an Esso station. Please be warned and receive guidance from the fate of others. Sagittarius (Nov23-Dec22) In your secret heart you have a strong desire to go into the open country and start a new life surrounded by forests and trees. The downside is that you have a wife and four children and live in a terrace house in the middle of the city. You simply have to deal with the contradictions your lifestyle imposes. It would help if you gave up excessive drinking and talking nonsense. Capricorn (Dec23-Jan22) Yo u w i l l h a v e p l e n t y o f opportunities to prove your merit in the next few days and the heavenly signs are good that you fall under the spell of an attractive person. However do bear in mind that not everybody who knocks on your door or rings your bell may be suitable. Strangers who try to sell you something in your own garden are usually to be avoided at all costs.

Dick Shines at Mountain Shadow! by Derek Brook Mountain Shadow – St Greetings, golf fans. With Olympic golf now history, it’s time to focus back on the more important golf event in the world – The Tropical golfers! You got to admit, it’s more entertaining, as in laughable. Things would get downright comical this week as the group headed out to the difficult Mountain Shadow course. As usual the group filled up at BJ's Lodge and loaded into their assigned cars. Mountain Shadow is one of the most difficult courses in the rotation, so you'd better bring your A-game, and plenty of balls. Course condition was fair-to-good, and the design makes sure the round is never boring. It’s also very scenic. Due to rain or neglect, some of the rough areas were very high, making the course even harder, and several lost balls just off the fairway. Ouch.
Mountain Shadow wunner Dick Warberg (L) and 2nd place Barrry Elphick The weather cooperated though at times quite breezy. There were several near record low scores, but a skilled few managed to get through with dignity. When the counting was done Dick “Mr. Chip-In” Warberg (c/h 22) was on top of the mountain with 36 points. Gotta love those five point holes! Next came Barry Elphick (28) with a fine 35
points. After that, there was two Toms tied at 34 points, with Tom Herrington (18) on countback over Tommy Marshall (7). You don't want to know the rest of the scores. Note: From now on Tropical Golf will have the Month Medal Mug on the last golf day of the month, whichever day it falls on. Near pins: Kenny Chung, John Pierrel and Barry Elphick
Bunker Boys Golf Eastern Star C.C.-White Tees-Stableford The BBs were obviously discomfited by the well-presented Eastern Star C.C.: not one of the 13 players managed to play to their handicap; 34 stableford points took first place. Hip Hip Hooray for the groundskeeper! Unlike the vast majority of other courses in the area, the bunkers were in excellent nick. They were so pretty you had a hard time staying out of them. There was a bit of anxiety back at The Club as people could be heard to say, “How many did you have on the back”, “How many did you have on the back”? This was the result of Les Burns, Neil Carter, Lee Butler, and Jimmy Carr all posting 32 points. Smiley Les walked off with the third place prize by scoring 18 points, one better than Jimmy at 17. Results: 1st - Geoff Cox (15) 34 points 2nd - Raleigh Gosney (18) 33 points 3rd - Les Burns (30) 32 points cb Near Pins: Mogens Melander, Colin Greig, Geoff Cox and Raleigh Gosney Pattavia G.C.-Rainbow Playing from the red, white, and blues is a real mind-fudger. One needs to match skill sets with t-boxes, and this is a lot easier said than done. Neil Carter entered the fray with a theory (using the term lightly ) borrowed from Colin, i.e., get the blues out of the way from the go get, and save the reds for your last six. It obviously panned out as he posted a very respectable 39 points to take first place. Neil wasn’t as fortunate with near pins as he hit two of the four greens only to be knocked-off by Trevor on the 7th, and Les
by Raleigh Gosney
Burns on the 13th. We were all amazed that no one was able to hit the par-three 17th, even though most players were playing from the reds at 152 yards. When all is said and done, the whole shooting match should have been won by Raleigh as he had three par-putts lip-out, and two that missed by a you-know-what hair. Add these five points to his 35 and, yeap, you’ve got the winner. Results: 1st - Neil Carter (15) 39 points 2nd - Jimmy Carr (17) 38 points cb 3rd - Les Cobban (8) 38 points Near Pins: Trevor Priestly, Les Burns and Jimmy Carr Mountain Shadow G.C.-Blue TeesStableford For the last month or two, this course has been bouncing back and forth between scruffy and less scruffy. We’ll call today less scruffy although the bunkers and t-boxes were in terrible shape. Geoff Parker took first place on count back over Jimmy with a paltry 33 points. Oh, what could have been. Geoff had at least five putts that missed by millimeters, and the wheels came off for Jimmy on the back: 13 points after posting 20 on the front. With two rounds to go to decide Golfer of the Month, it’s neck and neck between four players: Colin Greig, Geoff Parker, Raleigh Gosney and Neil Carter. Good luck to you all. Results: 1st - Geoff Parker (13) 33 points cb 2nd - Jimmy Carr (17) 33 points Near Pins: Gerry Cooney (2) and Jimmy Carr

Growling Swan – Stableford After a tough few days when we lost a great mate in Russell Calcutt, R.I.P, Russell, 24 golfers set out to Silky Oak in overcast conditions. The course were in tip top condition and some good scores were expected. As always the water traps claimed many victims. A Grade was won by Mike Johns with an excellent 40 point score. He won by a point from Martin Todd who putted magnificently all day thanks to an astute caddy. Big Boy Graeme Rice was the unlucky one who finished third by way of a countback also on 39 points. B Grade was taken out by John Anderson with a fine 39 point score. He was two points clear of Rob Cross who filled second spot by way of a count back with Rona Carungay coming in 3rd with 37 points. Results: A Grade (0-18): 1st - Mike Johns (15) 40 points 2nd - Martin Todd (12) 39 points C/B 3rd - Graeme Rice (14) 39 points B Grade (19-36): 1st - John Anderson (26) 39 points 2nd - Rob Cross (28) 37 points C/B 3rd - Rona Carungay (23) 37 points NTP’s 3 - Martin Todd 6 - Martin Todd 8 - John Anderson 14 - Greg Proctor 16 - Rob Pearce Longest Putt’s 9 - Martin Todd 18- Mike Johns

Growling Swan Golf – Stableford Well we cater for the big crowds and we cater for the small crowds, only 10 golfers today but it makes no difference to us it is all the same and the competition is still strong! Playing from the blue tees, scores were not quite up to standard and having the fairways mowed but the clippings being left made it a little difficult finding one’s ball. Many players complained that lost balls appeared to be the order of the day, next group to play Mt Shadow will benefit with balls being offered up for sale. A good course to play but I think that they are going to find it difficult to compete with some of the better courses offering super prices. I think that they need to pull their socks up and start looking as to what is being offered. On a day when the scorers were never in danger, Glenn Henriksen (on the eve of departing) took the honors f ro m T h e C o l o n e l A l a n Sanders, making sure that the

Local Sports PSC Tropical Golf from BJ's Tommy and Henry shine at Crystal Bay by Derek Brook The month is winding down and the pressure is winding up. With a close golfer-of-the-month race and the Monthly Mug coming
A-flight (1-18): Tommy Marshall (c/h 7) took full advantage of the easy layout with an excellent 39 points off his impressive handicap. Great golfing, Tommy! Just
Bangpra (Stableford) One of our Tuesday regulars, this is a quality course and as I am informed, the first golf course on the Eastern Seaboard. I may be wrong as there may have been minor courses but I think not. With this being around for many years it is a very mature course and we see a lot of wild life here. Particularly the golfers when they try to play the course. The greens can be tricky. The monkeys are the major problem here and at times the big males can be quite aggressive, however on this day we did not see any of them until we reached the 16th hole and then the place teemed with them. Nice to see.
The course itself was in reasonable condition, the greens on the front nine seemed a bit damp and slow but the ones on the back nine played much faster. The fairways themselves seemed very dry despite the rain of late. Quick change and into cars for the return to BJ's. There it was soon into the results. In the A flight, 0 to 19, the winner was Maurice Roberts with a fine 40 points ahead of a countback on 38 points that saw John Pierrel in second and Mashi Kaneta in third. “moving day”. Twenty three golfers joined the round at Crystal Bay in the hope of making it up the standings ladder. With a slightly earlier than usual start, we were assigned the B and C links. It’s been a while since we played the B-course and it was new to some. Overall the course was in good condition, and the weather rather too warm for the front nine before some clouds and breeze kicked in. Crystal Bay is known as a scoring course, and that was certainly the case this time. Reaching handicap still left one sitting and clapping at the end of the day.

B-flight (19+): Henry Wong (24) had the best score of the day with a shining 41 points! Some courses have no defense from Henry's big swing. Daryl Evans (24) was next with 38 points, and then Dick (Mr. Chip-In) Warberg (23) made another good showing with 37 points. Pattavia GC Twenty nine punters gathered in Soi Chaiyapoon eager to take advantage of the great offer put on by Pattavia G.C. To say the day was warm was an understatement; little or no breeze made it even more uncomfortable. The course was in good nick with the greens playing the way they normally do at this course, but I must admit greens are starting to look tired and sometimes play that way. We had two divisions, both playing from the white tees, and being Monthly Mug Day we were playing stroke (this sorting the men from the boys). A flight gave us our Mug Winner Maurice Roberts with a very tidy Nett 67; second in that division was Mike Johns; Denis Steele and the coach Mike Gosden filled the other spots. B flight saw Alan (The Colonel) Sanders take this out with a good score of net 68 to give him first place and only one shot away from The Monthly Mug. A great round, Colonel. (Toddy, I will be coming for a lesson or two.) Second in the flight was Rona Carungay, who is playing some good golf at the moment. Be careful, Skilts, she is out to get you!

We look forward to catching up again soon! D-For was again in full flight, paraded by Alex; he collected well from the punters at the Swan!
Unforgiving weekend at the Belgian GP for Sandy Kraokaew Stuvik The sixth round of the GP3 Series took place at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. After Friday's free practice, Sandy and the Trident team felt confident that they had a good set-up for the qualifying. Sandy was in 4th position after the first set of new tires, however, all the drivers improved on their second set of new tires. Sandy managed to finish in 8th position at the end of the session, 0.8 sec from pole position and just 0.5 sec from 2nd position. As the first race of the weekend began on Saturday evening, Sandy was involved in contact at the first corner, and was then sandwiched between 2 cars which resulted in suspension damage on the Thai racer's car. This would eventually lead to retirement as the damage proved too dire to continue with. With higher hopes and a fighting spirit, Sandy started the second race of the weekend from 17th position. Sandy had a good start as
usual but after the first lap it was clear that there was an issue hindering the Thai driver. After struggling with the car balance for a few laps Sandy decided to pit when the safety car came out to make some changes. The changes slightly improved the car but Sandy was still lacking pace to the cars in front. Sandy eventually retired from the race after the degradation on the front tires made it dangerous to continue further. "Not the best weekend I've had in Spa, but now we have to put the problems behind us and think forward to Monza, the home race of the team, so I'm excited to drive again and do my best for Thailand." Sandy is sponsored by the Singha Corporation, The Pizza Company, Dacon Inspection Services, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand.

You & Your Pets When it’s time to go… Most pets die at home of old age, but many become fatally ill or injured, or they experience a significantly diminished quality of life—forcing you to consider euthanasia in order to avoid pain and suffering. How do you deal with this difficult decision? Begin by talking to your veterinarian. He or she can help guide you, particularly when it clearly is time to euthanize your pet. In other cases, you may have to make the decision based on your pet’s behavior and attitude. Here are some signs that may indicate your pet is suffering or no longer enjoying a good quality of life: • He is experiencing chronic pain that cannot be controlled with medication. • He has frequent vomiting or diarrhea that is causing dehydration and/or significant weight loss. • He has stopped eating or will only eat if you force feed him. • He is incontinent.
• He has lost interest in all or most of his favorite activities-walks, playing, eating treats or soliciting your attention and petting. • He cannot stand on his own or falls down when trying to walk. • He has chronic labored breathing or coughing. Once you make a decision, prepare how and where you and your family will say goodbye. • Before the pet is euthanized, allow all family members and other pets in the household to have private time to say goodbye. • Explain the decision to children and prepare them for the loss. • Determine if you want to be present during the euthanasia procedure. For some it may be overwhelming; for others it is a comfort to be with their pet during the final moments. Ask your veterinarian to explain the procedure in advance; don’t hesitate to ask for clarification if needed. Usually,
Cats for You in Pattaya Cats for You is a great and much needed service in our area, but Paul and Sandra point out that adopting a cat or kitten is a longterm commitment with costs such as feeding and veterinary fees. Many adopters find it’s a good idea to adopt two animals so that they can enjoy each others’ company as well as yours. smaller pets are on a table for the procedure, but larger dogs may be more easily handled on the floor. Regardless of the location, make sure that your pet has a comfortable blanket or bed to lie on. In most cases, an assistant will hold your pet for the procedure to ensure that the process goes quickly and smoothly. The vet will give your pet a painless overdose of sodium pentobarbital, which quickly causes unconsciousness and then gently stops the heartbeat within minutes. He will then use a stethoscope to confirm that your pet’s heart has stopped. You may then have a few final minutes alone with your pet.
Blackberry is the youngest kitten that we have here at the moment. She is very friendly, full of fun and her mum is KitKat, so we are hoping that someone will choose them as a pair.
KitKat
KitKat is one of the most friendly cats that we have ever had. She came to us pregnant and, a few days later, had 3 lovely kittens. They are all grown up and only one is left for adoption. So now it is her turn to find a new home.
Bella and Jacko
This lovely pair have been with us for a while now, Both are friendly and although they are not brother and sister they are soul mates, so we thought it would be great to re-home them together if possible.
Some tips to help provide for your pet’s well being. Drinking From Toilets You make a habit of checking your dog or cat for fleas and ticks; you provide your pets with only a wholesome diet; you've watched your cat's painstaking grooming ritual. So why would your healthy pet eat right or meticulously groom itself, and then drink out of the toilet? No one is sure why cats and

dogs do this. It may be because toilet water may taste fresher than stagnant water in their drinking bowls because water in the toilet is changed with each flush. Whatever
the reason, there is little need to worry about it unless you keep chemical cleaners in the toilet tank. If it really bothers you, keep the lid down.
Most scientists agree that there are 17 species of penguins. Of the 17 species, 13 are either threatened or endangered, with some on the brink of extinction.
This handsome pair of ginger boys are both quite shy when they first meet you as they don't get many visitors. But if you stay quietly with them for a while, they will soon befriend you big-time..

Going to the Dogs...
If dogs could talk, perhaps we would find it as
hard to get along with them as we do with people.
~Karel Čapek
If a pinch of catnip sends your little darling into a state of bliss, you might wonder if your innocent furball is getting high. The answer is yes. Chemicals in catnip produce a response similar to intoxication. Because there's a genetic basis for it, some cats show an extreme attraction. Others, particularly kittens, show no reaction at all. In some cats, this naughty herb may even cause hallucinations. Catnip is not toxic to cats. However, eating large amounts can lead to vomiting or diarrhea. Do not allow pregnant cats to eat catnip.
