CELEBRATION Dream Doors franchisees are achieving record sales around the country
A
t a time when so many businesses have been struggling, Derek Lilly sounds almost embarrassed at the success of Dream Doors. ‘We have had two consecutive record sales months in August and September, and we are heading for our best results in 13 years,’ says Derek. ‘But we are among those who have thrived since lockdown, and I’ve decided that success should damn well be celebrated!’ Dream Doors is the only kitchen and cabinet door replacement franchise in New Zealand. ‘We are a multi-award-winning franchise and, after 13 years here, we are still growing,’ says Derek, who co-founded the franchise in the UK before moving to New Zealand. ‘Why? Because we have a great service backed up with great systems and, above all, great franchisees.’
Meeting demand ‘This year has been particularly successful for Dream Doors because, rather than travelling overseas, people are staying at home, looking at their houses and asking what improvements they can invest in. Kitchens are so heavily used, they come out at the top of the list. Replacement kitchens are expensive, but if you re-use the frames and replace dated or worn elements such as doors, drawers and benchtops, you can get a whole new look for a fraction of the cost. That’s what we specialise in. ‘That has meant record numbers of enquiries for our franchisees – fortunately, they have the processes in place to handle the extra business. Our Franchise Management System (FMS) won a major award in 2017 for technical innovation, and since then its capacity has doubled. The software was written specifically for Dream Doors, and has been a

massive investment over the last five years, but it’s really paid off.’ The FMS tracks leads, quotes and revenues; measures advertising effectiveness; collects and monitors customer feedback; and identifies issues. It also enables franchisees to do on-site, real time quotations with customers. ‘Customers are amazed by it and love it!’ says Derek. ‘And every vital piece of information is immediately available to franchisees and franchisor, so everyone knows where they are at and what to do to improve their business.’
Doing business Dream Doors still has franchise opportunities in Northland, Taranaki, Manawatu, Kapiti Coast, Otago, Central Otago and Southland. ‘There’s no point in contacting me about other areas, as our franchisees there are too busy making lots of sales,’ laughs Derek. ‘But if you want a great business in the targeted areas, I want to hear from you. Your role won’t be installing kitchens; it will be working with clients Advertiser Info and managing people who Dream Doors (NZ) Ltd carry out the work to exceed www.dreamdoors.co.nz/franchise customer expectations.
