Opportunity: Home & Building
Harrisons helps you build a financially-secure future within a trusted franchise network Curtains, flooring and energy: everything the home owner needs
TAKING HOME IMPROVEMENT MOBILE H
arrisons might be a long-established family business, but it’s always moved with the times. Founded in Whangarei in 1962, the company launched its pioneering mobile carpet retailing franchise in 1992. It was an instant hit – by taking the showroom to people’s homes, Harrisons Carpet & Flooring enabled customers to choose the perfect new floor coverings on-the-spot while doing away with the need for franchisees to maintain costly premises. The model was so popular, it was extended to solar panels, home ventilation and battery storage with Harrisons Energy. Soon after, the company moved into window coverings with Harrisons Curtains & Blinds. ‘With over 100 franchisees around the country, we are now the leading mobile in-home service providers, helping New Zealanders create a warm and inviting home they love to live in,’ says Dan Harrison, the company’s franchise recruitment manager. ‘And because we specialise in bespoke solutions that can’t simply be bought over the internet, it’s a great way for franchisees not just to maximise their earning potential but to build a business of their own which has real value. ‘Very high customer demand means we have some outstanding opportunities available right now in all three services. If you are looking for a business that offers flexible work hours, and are happy to visit people in their own homes to provide the right solutions for a range of needs, we want to hear from you.’
No experience needed While franchisees have to be comfortable in a sales role, they don’t need sales experience, says Dan. ‘Customers trust the Harrisons brand. We are not a hard sell company, and our franchisees come from all sorts of backgrounds – you just need to like people. We’ve built our reputation by providing customers with the right solutions for their needs and making life easy for them. Franchisees visit people at times that suit them, can provide quotations on the spot, and we even offer Flybuys. Once a sale is made, the installation work is carried out by experienced installers.
‘We provide exceptional training and a powerful, proven business model. There’s a dedicated support manager to help you grow your business and ensure you never feel alone, and meetings with other Harrisons franchisees to share ideas and experiences. We’re not a big corporate; we’re a family business and there’s a lot of spin-off between the services. ‘Best of all, there’s a sophisticated marketing programme with television advertising and online promotion that provides a guaranteed percentage of leads to complement your local marketing and networking. This enables you to concentrate on providing exceptional service to customers.’
Easier than you think ‘Motivated franchisees can expect to achieve exceptional returns, with some earning $150,000-plus,’ says Dan. ‘Yes, you have to work hard to achieve that, but the business also offers you great flexibility – it’s not a 9-to-5 job, so you can schedule your days around family commitments, sport or whatever you like, and our call centre will block out those times. Most franchisees tend to start late, end late, with around 10 appointments a week of 60-90 minutes each. ‘We have a variety of entry options: you can purchase an established business with ongoing cashflow, or take up a new franchise at an entry level price. Investment levels vary from $60,000 +gst for entry level opportunities. Harrisons offer a negotiated deposit, and the opportunity to pay off the cost of the business while you are making money. ‘We especially have new opportunities for Harrisons Energy franchisees, where we have partnered with LG for solar panels and Tesla for batteries. As people refurbish their homes – or build new – they are increasingly looking to lock in the savings we can offer. It does tend to be a higher average sale, but you don’t need to be an expert, as we will teach you everything you need to know.’
Take the next step With people travelling less and spending more on their properties right now, Dan is keen to talk to people interested in the Harrisons opportunities. ‘This isn’t about finding more franchisees, though – it’s about finding the right franchisees. We invite you to meet the team, talk to existing franchisees and ensure you feel really comfortable about what you are getting into. That makes it a lot easier when you start.
