Some highlights include Joaquin Phoenix in the award-winning drama Joker, Chris Morris (of Brass Eye fame) arrives with outrageous comedy The Day Shall Come, Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne take to the skies in the pulse-racing The Aeronauts and we go galactic once more with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker from the 27th December.

We launch with a screening of the Robert Redford survival thriller All is Lost, accompanied by a live soundtrack, followed by a whole host of films that cover long distance running, cycling, climbing and much much more – so get booking now. Joker 15

From Fri 1st Nov Dir. Todd Phillips 2019, 124 mins

EXPLORER We the Animals 15

Mrs Lowry & Son PG

Wed 13th Nov, 7.30pm Dir. Jeremiah Zagar, 2018, 93 mins

From Wed 13th Nov Dir. Adrian Noble, 2019, 91 mins

Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck (the always sensational Joaquin Phoenix) seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks – the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he’s part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society,

Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker. Winner of Best Film at this year’s Venice Film Festival, Joker is so much more than a comic book movie, with a lead performance from probably the greatest actor working today, it really is one of the best films of 2019.

A dream-like adaptation of Justin Torres’ autobiographical novel about a mixedrace family with three inseparable young sons in upstate New York. Lyrical, impressionistic, arrestingly beautiful and strongly performed, Zagar’s heartbreaking film, part coming of age story, part sexual exploration, explores the animalism of young children alongside that of violent, warring adults.

This is the beautiful, delicate, intimate and amusing story of the brittle but vital relationship between L. S. Lowry, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, and his bedridden, unhappy and controlling mother. Engrossing and entertaining, Mrs Lowry & Son offers up a veritable masterclass in acting, with Vanessa Redgrave and Timothy Spall spellbinding as a mother and son separated by art and ambition.

Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love 12A

Bait 15

The Day Shall Come 15

Downton Abbey 12A

Wed 6th Nov, 2pm Dir. Nick Broomfield, 2019, 102 mins

Wed 6th Nov, 7.30pm Dir. Mark Jenkin, 2019, 89 mins

Starting on the Greek island of Hydra in 1960, where Leonard Cohen, then a struggling and unknown fiction writer, and Marianne Ihlen, a single mother with a young son, became part of a community of expat artists, writers and musicians. Never-before-seen footage shot by Broomfield and legendary documentarian D.A. Pennebaker make for a unique portrait of an idyllic 1960’s bohemia.

“A genuine modern masterpiece” – Mark Kermode. Bait is a stunningly original new feature film shot on 16mm black and white film and processed by hand. Captured in Cornwall, it tells a stark story rooted in local culture and community, and how these marginal places are facing up to a changing world. A hand crafted monochrome expression of a life under threat.

Directed by Chris Morris, the creator of British cult-hit Four Lions. An impoverished preacher who brings hope to the Miami projects is offered cash to save his family from eviction. He has no idea his sponsor works for the FBI, who plan to turn him into a criminal by fueling his mad-cap revolutionary dreams.

The hit TV show finally gets the big screen treatment with this featurelength adaptation of the ITV drama mega-hit, following the saga of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them in the early 20th century English countryside. Hugh, Maggie and the gang are back for one final fling, expect luxury, intrigue and laughs in abundance.

Find Us Wirksworth is tucked away in the Derbyshire Dales, a bit off the beaten track - but that’s the way we like it. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON NORTH END There is parking on Harrison Drive, at the railway station during the day and on the Market Place, Barmote Court (off Coldwell Street) and Wood Street car parks.

WIRKSWORTH Good Neighbours North End is our favourite street in town. We live here, we work here, we tend to drink here too. That’s why we ask all our customers to help us minimise any disturbance on the street and help us be good neighbours. So if you arrive by car, we ask you not to park on North End itself, as lots of our neighbours rely on on-street parking. There’s plenty of parking elsewhere in town. If you smoke, we ask you to do so away from the cinema but also away

Access from residential houses – there’s a handy bench across the road at the top of Greenway Croft. Finally, when you leave, please do so quietly as some of our neighbours are elderly and others have young children, who may have retired to bed by the time you leave.

Please let the Box Office know when booking tickets, should you need to reserve a wheelchair-user space. We have a hearing loop installed in the auditorium and are fully wheelchair accessible.

This will all help keep us in the good books with our neighbours – which is always a good thing. Thanks for your help! Paul & Esther
