Same–sex marriage is one of the biggest social issues in American society and the adoption of children by same–sex couples is a sensitive issue, which is much debatable throughout the nationwide. Same–sex marriage has been legalized since 2015, showing that many are less likely to condemn homosexual relationships now than in the past. Since adopting children is considered a legitimate family function of a marriage couple, the rights of adopted children should be extended to same–sex couples.

My definition of marriage is a male and a female falling in love, living together, having their babies and raising their children. My understanding of marriage came from a culture, family, school, and community. Everyone has their own different perspectives that most likely have been derived from individual's anthropological background. Thus, Americans may have various perspectives of married homosexual families andsame–sex marriage. However, everyone is different and people should learn how to accept their differences because it is important in social life to understand and acknowledge different viewpoints to avoid further complications and conflicts. Same–sex couples are considered as different in social norm, but that does not mean that they are wrong.

There are some debates on the issue of permitting same–sex couples to adopt children. American society is not ready to accept and understand the adoption of children to same–sex marriage couples. There is a general perception of

Homophobia is an issue that has been around for ages, yet, it still goes unresolved. Same sex marriage is still illegal in many countries and hate crimes go unreported. We need to work together as human beings to try and normalize it. Same sex marriage should be legalized because it is an issue of human rights. Gay rights are human rights, furthermore, it has no effect on the heterosexual community, and allowing gay marriage ensures that everyone is treated equally under the law. As the gay rights movement gains momentum, more people are becoming more accepting of the idea of same sex marriage. Despite what others say, same sex marriage should be legalized. Same sex marriage is a matter of basic human rights and should be accepted, not only that, but gay marriage should be legalized because same sex marriage has no effect on the heterosexual community. Those that oppose same sex marriage try to argue that allowing same sex marriage would be "attacking" traditional marriage, however, a 2009 study prove otherwise. The study compared states that allowed gay marriage and the ones that prohibited it, discovering that opposite–sex marriage rates did not differ in those states to a statistically significant degree. Authors of this study, Alexis Dinno and Chelsea Whitney, state that "We found that state rates of opposite sex marriage in the U.S. from 1989–2009 do not significantly differ when same sex marriage and union laws are in force compared to when they are not in force"

Same Sex Marriage Disagreement

The definition of marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (Merriam–Webster). This dignified act is under constant threat by lesbian and gay couples protesting for equal rights in marriage. Same sex marriage should be prohibited in the United States because the act will evoke multitudes of problems that will be impossible to manage. The plentiful list of arguments against same sex marriage outweighs its opposite in all areas. For example, the case is commonly viewed as that if the couple is in love, they should be allowed to marry. Love is not the only deciding factor people analyze on why to get...show more content...

Other farfetched ideas are being brought up because of the thought of same sex marriage. "Gay rights activists claim that these marriages should be allowed because it does not hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage. If someone wants to marry his dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? What if someone wants to marry their blow–up doll or have 10 wives?" (Messerli) The legalization of same sex marriage plays a huge role in the future outlook of the world and more changes to be made in the ways the United States conducts itself. The children of the United States stand as a large issue in the decision of legalization ('Proposition 8'). Children need a healthy home lifestyle in order to be successful and prosper in the real world. A mother and a father can provide that healthy lifestyle for their child. This process is the norm and it portrays a positive exposure to loving care of the couple's child/children in union, religious faithfulness, and sets a good example that in the future the child is more likely to follow than a same sex marriage household would show (Dailey). This type of normal behavior is extremely beneficial in the long and short run for the child/children, commonly taken for granted and much needed in today's society. On the topic of admitting same sex marriage, "It confuses children about

Same sex marriage has been a topic on the rise throughout the U.S. It is what some of us may consider one of the more important topics of discussion for this time period. So far 17 states out of 50 have declared same sex marriage legal (States, 2013). Same sex marriage should be legal throughout the U.S. because same sex couples have a civil right to get married, along with a right to have access to the same benefits as heterosexual couples, and to be treated as equals without fear of discrimination. Same sex marriage is a civil right. In 1958 a couple named Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested in their home for interracial marriage in Virginia, which happened to be illegal at the time. They received a 1–year jail sentence, which was...show more content...

In February 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court wrote an opinion to the state Senate stating that having civil unions instead of marriages wasn't acceptable because allowing same sex couples to have a civil union, but not allowing them to be married, makes gay couples seem as if they were considered as second class status (Gay Marriage Legal, n.d.). As a matter of fact the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill recently, which would have allowed business owners the right to refuse service to gay couples based on religion (Santos, 2014). However, as discussed in class during one of the presentations, how would you differentiate between who is doing it for religious purposes and who is doing it because they discriminate against same sex couples? Chuck Coughlin, a public affairs consultant who worked with the Governor of Arizona and her team when she was elected, said in regards to this bill that, "We already have laws to sufficiently protect peoples religious freedom in this country and this bill could actually empower people to discriminate"(Santos, 2014). On the other side many people claim that it has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with religion. For example, the people who say they want to use the Arizona bill for their own religious purposes. Many people believe in what the Bible says. Same–Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam–Webster, is "the legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter with purpose of making a home and raising a family" (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition, there are a select few who do not. Some feel same–sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness, and its religious immorality. My first argument addresses the effects of homosexual parents on children; and children affected by homosexuality in general. A child living in a home with homosexual parents encounters the problem of the lack of either a mother or ...show more content...

The topic of same–sex marriage, or gay marriage, is extremely divisive in today's society. This paper will address some of the issues surrounding gay marriage. Many in favor of same–sex marriage suggest that gay couples should have the same marital benefits as heterosexual couples, which is simply a civil rights issue. In contrast, those against same–sex marriage see this concept as a moral matter, which violates traditional ethical standards. Since the beginning of time, most cultures have acknowledged marriage a unity between men and women. In addition, the concept of traditional marriages has been challenged in some states to allow same–sex marriage as well. In response to this movement, many states have passed marriage laws to forbid...show more content...

Thus, if two people of the same gender love each other, they should be allowed the same privileges as a straight couple. For instance, if a marriage is about two people who love each other, the nation should acknowledge all unions instead of discriminating same–sex marriage. In other words, two individuals with the same gender have the fundamental right to commit to each other, it is their person freedom and right. In addition, now that gay marriage issues are being challenged, the desire for same–sex marriage is becoming more political. The gay community desires like similar civil rights appointed to same–sex marriage as the traditional marriage. As an added bonus, the Washington, DC government office recently announced they "... would no longer defend the constitutionality of [Defense of Marriage Act]...because [this act] unfairly discriminates against [same sex marriage]" (Human Rights Campaign, 2011b). Since the majority of traditional marriages are based on love and eventually child bearing, gay marriages are merely about two individuals expressing love and support to each other. Basically, the gay community expectation was to hope those in the New York regime, for example, take their side of debate and consider their values. After a lengthy debate, from a political standpoint, the gay marriage concept was considered. Consequently, congratulations are in order, the gay marriage appeal has been granted. Society has many views on same sex relationships and marriages, people are either for it or against it. In this paper, we will first look at same sex marriage in America and how homosexuals and heterosexuals feel about the issue. We will look into the ethical issue that same sexmarriage presents. We will look at how the classical theory of how deontology would resolve the issue of same sex marriage. Next, we will contrast deontology with the perspective of relativism. Finally, we will see which of these views on same sex marriage is closest to my own personal views. In 2004, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, the District of Columbia and two Native American tribal jurisdictions have legalized same sex marriages. As the years go on, more and more same sex couples will continue to fight for their right to marry who they choose and more states will eventually allow same sex couples their rights to marry whomever they choose (Koppelman, 2004). Those that are oppose same sex marriage focus their reasoning on religious beliefs. Same sex couples do not want to be treated as second class citizens, they do not focus on what religion states; they just want to be treated as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their right. Same sex couples believe if one is to bar any class of people from marrying whomever they choose, it then deprives them of their social institution; that many feel defines the most meaningful part of life, to marry someone one loves. Same sex couples believe that their relationships are no different than that of a heterosexual marriage. Same sex couples can have maintain a home together, provide an environment that children can thrive in and care for each other the same as heterosexual married couples do (Goldberg–Hiller, 2002).

In addition, there are four other reasons why it should not be legalized in the Philippines. First, because Gay/Lesbian marriage violates traditions; Secondly, Gay/Lesbian couples can't produce children; thirdly, having a mom and a dad is better for children than having two moms or two dads and the last one is homosexual behavior is immoral and should not be encouraged.

Gays are being denied their basic rights for the simple fact that laws have yet to evolved with the rest of the world. Why does someone else get to decide their given right to marry? According to Theodor B. Olsen, "The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly held that marriage is one of the most fundamental rights that we have as Americans under our Constitution. The Supreme Court has said that marriage is a part of the Constitution's protections of liberty, privacy, freedom of association, and spiritual identification. As the society changing, the history of marriage also changes. Marriage is legally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship, but do those two partners always have to be a man and a woman? Most people believe that homosexuals should be granted equal rights as heterosexual couples. Being as an important social issue, same–sex marriage has become a hot topic of public debates in the recent years. For over the past decade, public support for the same–sex marriage has quickly risen. The United States is one of over twenty countries that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed. I believe that same–sex marriage should be legalized in all countries for several reasons, such as being an issue of equal rights, separation of church and state, no negative effect on the heterosexual communities, increasing in child adoption, and decreasing divorce and suicide rates.

First, it can clearly be seen that same–sex marriage is primarily about equality. Everyone has equal rights and liberties to chase happiness, as long as it does not cause harm to the society, so why should their freedoms be limits? Why can't someone be able to marry a person they truly love?

Discrimination and banning homosexual couples to get married violates human rights and freedoms. Laws which against gay marriage deny the First Amendment which states that everyone has freedom of speech, expression and religion. Sexual determination is an option, so it is how some people can express themselves.

If an American believes in religious freedom then he or she has no basis for this argument. Furthermore, religious arguments should be immediately dismissed in the court of law. Same Sex Marriage Is Immoral And Unnatural

In recent years, same–sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it's right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same–sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same–sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks. Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful and produce children. Same–sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about how immoral same–sex marriage is. For example, Leviticus 18:22 states, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination".

Marriage is a privilege, not a right. It is not correct to redefine marriage away from the original meaning. Analysis Of Same Sex Marriage

Marriage is now commonly defined as a 'legally or formally recognized union of two partners in a personal relationship'. However, this is commonly associated in society as a union from which children are conceived. Same sex marriage is often then seen as unnatural as children cannot be conceived natural and is this deemed unnatural and is 'contrary to the ordinary course of nature'. I disagree with this argument because homosexual people don't choose to be gay and therefore I don't think that his is unnatural. Whilst same sex couples can't have children naturally within marriage, I don't think that the purpose of marriage is to have children and therefore I see no reason why same sex marriage isn't natural. In Leviticus, it says that 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination'. According to Aquinas, this then means that same sex marriage is unnatural because it goes against Divine law as it is contrary to the messages portrayed in the Bible. Aquinas argues that one of the primary precepts of life is to reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is unnatural because same sex couples can't reproduce naturally, and goes against the idea that reproduction is the 'Final Cause' of sex within marriage. Additionally same sex marriage could be argued to be going against eternal law as God created Adam and Eve so that they could reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is going against God's wishes for humanity and goes against the idea of marriage as a

People can define marriage in numerous ways. By definition, to marry means to join together. So, a marriage would constitute as a joining together of two individuals into a legal union, which means being joined as one. Some of the many purposes of marriage would include: family, companionship, financial benefits, commitment, and love. Starting a family is an important part of getting married, as well as the commitment to love just the one person for the rest of their lives. Homosexuals are exactly the same as heterosexuals, looking for the right person to be with for the rest of their lives. But, because of the prejudices against the gay community, are not able to marry each other. Homosexuals are tired of being seen from a negative point of view and granting them the right to marry would help normalize homosexuality in American culture. They want everything that comes with a marriage: the licenses, the vows, the wedding rings, the anniversaries, the benefits, and even the responsibilities and routines. Denying the right to marry is a sure way to convey that an adult is unable to make adult choices and is still considered to be a child, who is incompetent and is unable control itself. This is an unfair assumption, and should not be made against others, even if their beliefs are different than ours or we don't agree with their choices. Also, with marriage, the couple receives benefits that an unmarried couple would otherwise not receive. The lack of marriage can create numerous problems, like if a spouse is in the hospital, only immediate family members would be allowed to see patients. A partner could be near death and would not be able to see their significant other or have decisions made for them by their partner. If death were to occur, even very carefully drawn wills and strong lawyers have proven to not be enough if a family wishes to challenge a
