Once again, this long running sale has the quality you can depend on in the middle of April. In the past few years, there have been several herd bulls go into some of the great purebred herds in both breeds and the many repeat commercial customers are a testament to how they work. The WRAZ and Brimner operations have both been developing a great product that will work at all levels of the industry. There are bulls in both breeds that can work in the heifer pen or bulls that will give you the top performance that you want. There are some new front running sire groups that you need to come to see. Red cows and white bulls have been the Cornerstone of the commercial industry for decades and will continue to be popular from the sale ring to the packing house. Using a quality bull is the first step to herd improvement and they are here in both breeds. Again this year, there is a good offering of open Red Angus and Red Angus X Charolais open replacement heifers that would be excellent additions to an existing operation or a great place to start a new herd. If Jon, Candace, or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to help you find a bull that is right for your program. Sincerely, Helge & Candace By 306.536.4261 • Jon Wright 306.807.8424 • By Livestock
The Percentage Calving Chart 1. An average cow of any breed should be able to calve 7% of her body weight. 2. Most Charolais cows will weigh between 1400-1800 lb., expected calf weight range 98 to 126 lb. 3. Most Red Angus cows will weigh between 1200 to 1600 lb., expected calf weight range 84 to 112 lb. 4. Calving Ease is MORE important than birth weight because a longer sided calf may calve easily, but the birth weight is higher.

Welcome to the 2020 Edition of the Cornerstone Bull Sale! Thank you again for your interest and support of our program. Our goal has not changed over the years; calving ease, structural soundness and fertility is number one! These bulls are bred and raised to go out breed without falling apart. Having a later sale allows us to calve a little later and grow these bulls out gently. We also run a commercial cow herd so we know what it takes to raise those good tan/silver calves that ring the bell at the auction mart. The premium on good Charcross calves is still prevalent and puts more dollars in your pocket.
BRIMNER CATTLE CO. Kelly, Tracy, William & Wyatt Brimner Box 93, Manor, SK S0C 1R0
We are also offering a group of Sim/Red Angus open commercial heifers and a group of white Charolais heifers. These are right out of the keeper pen. Feel free to call or stop by and see the bulls at home. See you in Whitewood!

Welcome to our 12th Annual Bull and Commercial Open Female Sale
I would like to extend a very heartfelt THANK YOU – We truly value our customers! Our continual goal is to find and incorporate solid new genetics that meet or exceed the expectations of the beef industry while maintaining the strong maternal aspects the breed was built on. These genetic choices need to continue our program forward and in turn help you continue your program forward with a good return on your investment. Our slogan is and we truly want to be or continue to be The Program You Can Count On! The world might be messed up but the beef industry will remain business as usual. There is no other industry we would rather be a part of in this age of uncertainty. There are still many agreements that end with a hand shake and that hand shake still means something. Integrity is hard to come by in this “right now” world where loyalty is a thing of the past. We feel very fortunate and thankful to work with past, present and future great customers like all of you!
our annual bull sale and production female sale. We maintain a very high standard for culling the whole herd on an annual basis. We do not have time for problem cows or their progeny to become a problem for us or anyone else. Rest assured if a bull makes it to the sale we are very confident he will be able to service your females and be an asset to your herd. The bull pen is as strong as it has been for a few years – come to have a look, I am confident you will be happy you did. The bulls on offer here are born unassisted, long bodied and structurally correct – they are built from the ground up to calve easily and their dams are worthy for you to be able to keep their daughters. They grow up on milk and grass – these bulls are not creep fed. We are all in this together so please do not hesitate to give us a call - we stand behind what we sell and we would be more than happy to help!! See you sale day! ~ Phil
Integrity is the cornerstone that our program and our relationship with you and your program is built on. This pen of bulls is built on that same platform of integrity being culled down from roughly 130 male born calves to the 35 top bulls you see in the pages of this offering. We started the breeding year with roughly 300 breeding females to supply

RED COCKBURN ASSASSIN 624D You be the judge on these 4 ET sons from a female that was very hard to part with. Their dam, Red WRAZ Sheba 40X, sold for $10,000 at Red Round Up at 8 years of age. Brylor Ranch, of Pincher Creek, AB and On The Mark, of Sherwood, Oregon, did not miss this donor matron and teamed up to own her on sale day. Maternal brother 111G, by Ghostrider, has done a great job for Red Ember Ranch. Sire to these full sib brothers is the $77,000 Assassin bull that leaves behind impressive progeny that are big ribbed, easy fleshing with lots of shape and muscle. Assassin progeny have a very calm temperment. I had a good look at Assassin coming off pasture this fall and he is impressive.

My Beef Industry Observations – For What It’s Worth I have spent a lot of time travelling up and down the roads to auction barns, cattle shows and industry conferences. Here are a few observations that I would like to share with you:
completed. One thing I can guarantee if you are not signed up you will definitely not get any industry verification payouts.
Canada Beef and the BCRC – Check out their websites/apps there is a lot of useful info. Beef producers are in very good hands with our check off $$$ at work behind the scenes. The quality of staff and what they have going on both domestically and around the globe is incredible! My hat is off to them. Our check off $$$ are also at work with our beef industry representatives - SCA, CCA and SSGA are working hard for us lobbying government on proposed changes as well as informing the consumers that Canadian beef producers are ethical, sustainable and good stewards of the land. Thank you to their boards and staff for your time away from your business and families – keep up the great work! There seems to be more questions than answers around the VBP plus program. What I know as a registered VBP plus verified herd is that it is not as big of deal as you think to get verified. You are most likely doing everything you need to now so you might as well just get it done. There is very little chance that the pasture to plate verification process is going away. There has been and still are $$$$ being paid on cattle that have remained in the verifiable chain so what have you got to lose by signing up? We have the best beef in the world that is produced sustainably and ethically and we can prove that better than anyone else if we just do it! JBS and Cargill have verifiable programs, as well as some of the smaller packers – Cargill recently signed on again after the initial pilot project was

The feedlots and their respective buyers are looking for cattle with length and frame that will convert feed well so they have room to put some pounds on them or your calves will be discounted! This industry still pays the seller by the pound so the most important thing you can do is use genetics that will achieve this goal. It is high time that we back away from the notion that we need light birthweight bulls especially on our mature cow herds. Birthweight is just one small part of the calving ease puzzle so let’s quit this nonsense!! Mama has as much or more to do with calving ease. Landing a calf on the ground that is born easily, gets up quickly to nurse that magical colostrum and then grows out to be weaned in the fall with the required frame and the ability to sell in the top third of the market is not generally a sleep easy bull you bought to service your first calf heifers. I understand everyone is running stretched with very little help but your cows should be able to easily give birth to a calf 8% of their mature weight – there are many studies over many years that document this not to mention experience. Do the math folks – a 1000 lb cow should have no trouble having an 80 lb calf – how many cows weigh 1000 lbs in your herd??? There are lots of 1300 lb plus cows in herds – that equates to a 104 lb calf so let’s stop this foolishness before the buyers will not buy our calves unless at a BIG discount, or worse yet, we breed the frame and possibly the pelvic area out of our cow herds!! Respectfully yours, ~ Phil

Good calving ease but not tiny birthweights. The calving ease is proven consistent from his long body and front end. Although he has calving ease do not be afraid to keep his females. Phantom was a $26000 son of Ghostrider to Double C a few years back that was well proven for them. I bought him back a couple years ago after losing both his sire and full brother. Love the bull, but he broke a back leg in a bull fight last fall so this will be the last set of natural sons.

• There is a fair bit of growth in this Serebl cow family, they are not small framed cattle • Indeed 105G carried some birth weight but unassisted calving was expected • I would like to see this guy breeding a nice group of three-year olds to raise exceptional females • The cow family has decent calving ease considering their mature weight – 1820 lb female with a 80 lb BW calf is less than 5% of her weight. Her dam 95N always calves small calves. EPDs would indicate cow bull but I would personally use him on well grown out heifers, although I am not recommending him as a heifer bull. If you have a few with a group of young cows I would try him. If you are not afraid of calves in the 80s on your heifers, then you be the judge.
