KEYSTONE SIMMENTAL ASSOCIATION President ~ Everett More (204) 748-1225 Secretary ~ Irene Vanin (204) 748-1225 Welcome to the 33rd Keystone Konnection Simmental Sale. The breed provides a tremendous diversity of strains of cattle and this sale as usual includes them all. We will offer cattle of interest to the commercial producers and to the discerning seed stock producer. As predicted, calf prices are reaching new levels while slaughter cow and bull markets are very strong. It would seem that this would be an excellent time to cash in those cull animals and replace them with ones that will improve the quality of your future calf crops. This sale will certainly offer you the type of cattle needed to accomplish this.

11:30 a.m. on Sale Morning, Come and participate in the fun and excitement of the…

2011 Born Simmental Heifer Calf Futurity Everyone Attending the sale can be a judge! Juniors - get a free ticket on the Sim-Acta for a chance to win a credit on a heifer calf. Here's how it works: • You can buy a "Card" to become a "judge". They are 1 card for $25 or 3 cards for $50 - each card entitles you to select a Sim-Acta of heifer calves. Simply put, you give it your best guess on which three heifer calves will be placed first, second and third place in the show. The Winner (the "judge" who picked the correct heifer calves in order) will received a sale credit totaling the whole amount of tickets sold (ex. 22 tickets @ $50/ticket = $1100 sale credit.) • "Judging cards" need to be bought and the three heifer calves chosen on the card before the show judging starts at 11:30 a.m. on sale morning. • The heifer calves will be judged TOURNAMENT STYLE (single knockout elimination). Calves will enter the ring two at a time. Each judge will vote for one or the other. The winner advances to the next round until we get down to the final three calves. If there is a tie, the money will be split.

Sale.

Welcome to the 33rd annual Keystone Konnection Simmental

To say that 2011 was a bit challenging would be a huge understatement. This area of the Province was hit with record flooding this spring, causing enormous damage to roads, fields, pastures and producers nerves. Calves coming to town this fall are $25 to $35 per hundredweight higher than last year. 740 pound steers are bringing home over $1000 per head. Cull cow prices are still strong. This is the time to ship the old girls that aren’t pulling their weight and replace them with young stock with noted breeding dates and their whole life ahead of them. The Keystone Sale has a reputation of offering sound functional cattle that go out and work for their new owners. Over the years they have also proven to be the best value for the dollar invested. If you are looking for bred heifers look over this offering, You will find many of the top bloodlines represented and in most cases bred with noted breeding dates. Check out the details on the new Pick of the Barn Bred heifer draw. The heifer calves are always exciting at the Keystone. Our Sim-Acta brings out only the very best heifers, and gives you a chance to win a sale credit if you choose to participate. If you are looking for a calf to show and then go out and start a herd with, you will find her here. This sale is also the place to select your new herd bull. If you are looking for a full Fleckvieh bull, horned or polled, Cherry Creek has again got an excellent selection of thick sound beef bulls for your appraisal. As is the case with cull cows, cull bulls are as much as they have ever been. So have a good look at your old bulls, and if they are not doing what they should be bring them to town and replace them with a fully guaranteed bull from the Keystone Konnection. Plan to be in Brandon on December 6th to view this great offering. If you can not attend but would like some assistance with selecting the cattle for your operation or would like us or any of the sale staff to represent you in the strictest of confidence, please give us a call.

This extremely dark liver colored exceptionally correct young bull prospect should attract some attention this fall throughout North America. This solid coloured young herdsire prospect with lots of facial pigment is out of one of our top producing young cows. She is a daughter of Porscha 14P so maybe that explains it. Anyway this bull’s young mother raised in 2010 a beautiful polled heifer calf which was retained in the herd. For her 2011 calf we mated her with that different pedigree again Romulus F35R/ Great Guns Lilli-Marlen on his sire side. This gives the buyer the opportunity for outcross genetics. BLUE RIDGE SIMMENTALS Richard & Brenda Chambers ~ 8 Mulberry Crescent, Brandon, MB R7A 0Y9 ~ Phone (204) 726-4526 It is hard to believe that 7 years have gone by since we dispersed our herd and moved to Brandon. It is great that we still are involved in the cattle business, raising quality Simmentals and keeping in touch with the friends we made in the industry. I know that it has been a very trying year for agriculture in Manitoba and south eastern SK. Fortunately cattle prices have held strong. We were fortunate to go to Switzerland last fall and saw many traditional Simmentals in the hill pastures. It gives a person a different perspective as to where our breed came from. We have been very fortunate to have our cows with Neil Carson. He manages them as his own. They produce profitable, low maintenance cattle or go down the road. This ensures that all the heifers and bulls that we bring to a sale will be productive and long lasting. We hope to see everyone at the different Simmental events this fall and wish all a great 2012.

Well another year has passed, and what a year, lots of snow, a very late wet spring, a summer that started incredibly wet with lots of flooding and a fall extremely dry and very little combining that ,WOW that's a year not to go through again. On the bright side the fall cattle sales have good. Our consignment consists of three bred heifers all bred to bull we purchased a couple of years ago from Sunny Valley (Wise Guy), he was the lead off bull that day. So far the results have been great, he calved like a dream and has left us with some great looking replacement females along with a good group herd bull prospects for next spring. As a bonus he is homo polled. The two heifer calves one multi black that is off a very good first calf heifer that we like a lot and one red fancy heifer that is off our Wise Guy bull that will allow the customers interested in the breds to see a typical Wise Guy calf.
