Welcome to the 7th Annual No Borders Sale ➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤➤

What an exciting line up we have for this year’s No Borders sale. This is the 7th Annual sale and you won’t want to miss it. We have pick of the McTavish cowherd, a donor quality female from Pleasant Dawn – who produced two sons that combined sold for $26,000 and she is just a five year old. We have some show prospect heifer calves right out of the show strings that would make great junior projects, and some offering to keep them until CCYA in Weyburn next summer. This is the largest offering of Full French females for sale this fall in Canada as well as some quality red factor females. We welcome a couple new consignors this year and know you will be pleased with the quality. As a testament to the quality, over the years cattle have sold into seven provinces and six American states. Yes, there is something for everyone here and this year we are broadcasting live on DLMS. This really is a fun event for both the consignors and buyers with some great networking and working together. The sale is relaxed where everyone can have fun and share ideas and genetics. We want to set this stage and welcome everyone to come the night before the sale and join in a mixer at the Jay’s Inn and Suites hotel. Book your room early and if you have trouble getting one, ask for one under the No Borders’ block or contact us and we will help you. This spring the Charolais bull market was very exciting with more bulls selling in sales than ever before. This fall it was very evident that pounds pay, and crossbreeding is essential in the commercial industry. There is truly an endless opportunity in the Charolais breed and we encourage you to come and join in these exciting times with us.

8 PICK OF THE HERD ➤

We are excited to offer “Pick of Our Females” in the 2018 No Borders Select Sale.

McTavish Farms Ltd. is located just off the #1 highway in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, 6 miles east and 2 ½ miles north of Moosomin. We have been in the Charolais business 30 years this coming spring. Although things have changed over the years, the core principles of our herd have not. We believe the cow herd should work for you, not the other way around. Females are selected for structural soundness, low maintenance, docility, longevity, fertility, performance and maternal power. Our cows calve from early January to the first week in March with ¾ of them calving in the first 30 days. All cows are calved by cameras, since I do not live at the main farm yard. We strive on having cows and heifers that can calve on their own and calves with lots of vigour at birth. There are 130 females to select from. In 2017 and 2018, we had a total of five Dams of Distinction awards. McTavish Angel 25Y (2018) goes back to our first Dam of Distinction awarded in 2002 for McTavish Angel 47D. McTavish Karolina 20T and McTavish Polly 50U go back to two JWX heifers we purchased from John. McTavish Oasis 3X is from another foundation female, McTavish Jewel 7C. The mother of McTavish Sage 1X is McTavish Silver Sage 52R. She is the matriarch of the most prolific and productive cow family in our herd and she is still going strong in the herd. Selection of the female can be made by our annual bull sale held on the farm March 22, 2019. This should give you a great opportunity to select a female with either your next herdsire or show string heifer calf at side. We are retaining the right to one successful flush in the female that is chosen.

In 2018 our females were exposed to: SOS Hooey PLD 127D • Elder’s Crackerjack 13D • Brimner Bull 36D • McTavish New Era 79E • McTavish Landslide 125E

9 CHOICE LOT ➤

Here is an opportunity to own one of the first Hooey or Crackerjack females to be offered.

I only see great things from these two sires in the future, so this would be the chance to own one of these outstanding heifers. These heifers have all of the qualities that we look for in females and should be staying here on the farm! They are very eye appealing with ample amounts of substance and maternal qualities. Keep your eyes out for these heifers this fall, they will be in our show string at Agribition. Any juniors interested in CCYA 2019, in Weyburn, SK, McTavish Farms will manage your heifer throughout the year and deliver it to CCYA next year.

Natassia’s dam, High Bluff 95D is an extremely good looking, structurally correct Sparrows Escobar daughter with a beautiful udder. Natassia’s sire, Bronco, is our proven calving ease sire that we breed most of our heifers to. He sires cattle that are moderate sized and smooth made. Natassia is a good-looking heifer with a lot of volume and natural capacity, the cherry on top is that she has a beautiful hair coat. If consistency and depth of pedigree are high on your purchase must have list, look no further, she’s bound to be a herd builder.

832F is sired by Maple Leaf Hat Trick 165Y who has done a great job for us producing stylish easy doing cattle. Her dam is out of Echosprings Yagerbomb 11Y, who has left us some good uddered, heavy milking females. Goes back to Curtis Wallace and Hisman on the maternal side. Real good cross – Hat Trick and Yagerbomb.

What can I say about Fedora – she comes right off the top of my heifer pen! Fedora is a soggy, deep heifer with tons of hair and thickness. Fedora is packing quite the pedigree. I have yet to see any other progeny in Canada off this outcross bull named Volier, directly out of France. So let yourself be the first to own this pedigree! To boot, Fedora has a top-notch ancestry tree going back to the greats like Jumper and Impair, so don’t miss the opportunity to own Fedora on sale day!

Emily is a stout half-French heifer with the calving ease of Xplorer on her topside, and then goes back to the 2011 National Champion bull, SCF You Betcha 94Y, on her dam side. These two genetics will be very exciting! On saying this, you have Emily being preg checked safe for early January calf to my polled Full French bull HBSF 148C; this should transpire into one heck of a combination! These animals are on a full vaccination plan! If it helps anyone out due to their calving season or some other unforeseen issue, I would bring her home and calve her out until appropriate arrangements could be made.

To top it off, she also has an AI dam out of France on her bottom side, called Sidney, so just imagine her progeny and being AI bred safe for an early January calf to AI sire, Falcon, who also is directly out of France!
