PIECE OF THE PROGRAM FEMALE SALE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2020

Welcome to the 5th Piece of the Program Female Sale. This sale was created to highlight the progressive breeding program that we undertake here at Steppler Farms. In depth selections have increased the genetic progress of the Steppler herd and the direction of the Charolais breed. We strive to produce functional, versatile, hardy cattle that will make strides in the real cattle industry. Our genetics are consistently challenged in the commercial industry and have made great progress in increasing our customer’s bottom line. When we do come across a direction that doesn’t follow this mission statement, we aren’t married to those genetics. We feel it is equally important to cull genetics that don’t work in the commercial industry and move forward. The females on offer are a beaming example of our program. You will notice that each sire group is represented in the offering. This highlights our opinions of our herd sires and we are excited to offer these females to your herd. All females have herd-building capabilities, coming from progressive cow families that make up one of the largest Charolais cow herds in Canada. This year has challenged all our abilities to perform business as usual. We are committed to showing off these females and invite you to tour the offering before the sale. Videos of the lots will be available two weeks before the sale to give you an added selection tool. Time will tell the structure of sale day and crowd limitations maybe in effect. Every year, when I go through the sale offering at Steppler Farms, I am more impressed than the year before. This is the 5th Piece of the Program sale for them and they have dug deep again to bring you a very high-quality offering. There is such a good mix of pedigrees that exemplify what the program is all about and you really are getting, from the top of the herd, a Piece of the Program. Andre has focused on functional, trouble free, cattle with good calving ability and strong maternal traits while still blending in some great performance. When you are calving out 600 head in a short calving window, you do not have time to put up with problem females. They are eliminated from the program. If you want some consistency, buy a package of ½ sisters, bred the same way and you will have the end product you are looking for. The Winchester bulls this spring were highly sought after for their calving ease and structural soundness and when you see this group of daughters you will want to own them. Females from previous sales have worked well for their new owners and in many cases have started cow families in those programs. Last year, the Lot 1 cow proved a great buy as her bull calf this spring was the high seller in the bull sale; and the calf that was inside her, when she sold, is a feature in the Superstar Charolais sale. I, of course, was running late and only had half an hour of daylight to unload and walk through the bull pen. Flagstaff was a standout in a great pen of bulls. He was super correct, deep chested, outcross pedigreed, and calving ease orientated. Doug assured me that his dam was damn good and now seeing all his daughters develop, I can’t wait to get them into production. 14Z has also been a great producer for us as well, with a son working at Silver Lake Charolais. We purchased Winchester from Pro-Char Charolais to run in our heifer pen and what a job he has done for us. Winchester was recently purchased by CK Sparrow Farms and will continue with his consistency in calving ease. We probably didn’t realize when we bought Winchester, how great of female maker he would become. The Winchester females are simply awesome. The whole sire group is consistent in their moderate frame, easy doing ability, sound structure and are already laying down that cattleman’s udder. HERD HEALTH

Production and efficiencies are very important on our farm. We have a short, intensive breeding program. All females are AI bred for efficiencies and calculated matings. We try to get 95% of the cows exposed in the first cycle with a 70-75% conception rate. Correct, accurate nutrition,high quality semen, and time invested in heat detection and inseminating are the keys to achieving this target. Once the cows go through the 28 day AI program, the herdbulls go to work. Since most of the cows have conceived already, the herdbulls finish the job. The mature bulls easily travel throughout the last 32 days of the breeding program. All females are pregnancy checked early in the summer and culls and opens are taken out We maintain a high and rigorous herd health regime as outlined below. This enables us to have a successful breeding program and ensures potential buyers of the high health standards of these sale cattle.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. BIDDING: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. DISPUTES: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. BREEDER GUARANTEE – FEMALES: As per the Canadian Charolais Association Code of Ethics, copies available at the settlement desk can picked up by the buyer at any time. EXCEPTION GUARANTEE: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.
