PIECE OF THE PROGRAM FEMALE SALE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2021

Welcome to our 6th Annual Piece of the Program Sale. When we decided to develop the only one iron annual female sale in Canada, we committed to hosting the sale rain or shine. It is no secret there have been challenges facing the west with a lack of feed; however, this creates a great opportunity to access high level females at a very competitive price point. Our goal is to produce females that are correct, angular, sound footed, with great udder conformation and the capacity to wean a great calf. It has been exciting to travel across Canada to see our Steppler females making an impact in so many herds. Steppler Miss 52G is leading off our female sale this year and she is a great one. This cow family was started in 1993 and has made a huge impact here, with the 80X female leading in producing us one of the most consistent, highlevel females. 52G is one of the best females to come out of that cow family to date. We thought so highly of this female after her first calving, that we flushed her to Canada’s High Selling Bull, Elder’s Houlio 4H; producing 17 freezable eggs. She then bred back to Houlio for a mid February calf. Check out her daughter 254J, what a powerhouse. I believe the 52G female will be one of the most exciting females to sell this fall. The bred heifer group is consistent, highlighting our great sire groups including CAYS Full House, El Paso, Legendary, Burnin it Down, Odessa, to name a few. These prospects are bred to our new heifer bulls CKE Mitch 5H, Whiplash, and Steppler Magnum 99G. Not only are they bred to calving ease specialists, their maternal traits also run deep into these pedigrees. The set of heifer calves really highlight the power of our herd sires as well. What a consistent group that allows for 4H/Juniors to select herd building genetics. If you have any questions, feel free to call or message anytime. We love to talk cattle and can accommodate any request. Please be sure to take in the pre-sale lunch and hospitality and we look forward to visiting with you on the 15th. Andre The offering in this 6th annual sale is excellent again. The quality from top to bottom really does exemplify a Piece of the Program at Steppler Farms. You get to buy from the top of the herd, into their unique genetics and cow families that should be staying in the program. Andre knows he needs to showcase his herd and program in the sale, and thus, you get this opportunity to buy these females. Andre has focused on functional, trouble-free cattle, with good calving ability and strong maternal traits, while still blending in some great performance. When you are calving this size of herd in a short calving window, you do not have time to put up with problem females. They are eliminated from the program. There are many repeat buyers, who experienced great success with their purchases. If you want some consistency, buy a package of ½ sisters bred the same way, and you will have the end-product you desire. Females from previous sales have worked well for their new owners, and in many cases have started cow families in those programs. Looking for a show prospect or junior project? The offering of heifer calves is as strong as ever, with great dispositions that will be a joy to work with. All the sale animals are videoed and available for viewing at bylivestock.com. The Steppler program is proven in their bull pen as well, selling over 100 bulls every year to many repeat customers and volume buyers that appreciate the quality and consistency they have come to trust. Come early, have a visit with Andre, and look through his program and the sale offering. If you can’t make it to the sale, give Andre, or us, a call anytime to let us help you find the right fit for your operation and objectives. 1 Bred May 2 to Elder’s Houlio 4H, favourable. Exposed April 21-May 2 to Sparrows Emirate 57H. Steppler Miss 52G is our lead off lot in this year’s Piece of the Program. We always like to start of our sale with a female that bests represents what the Steppler breeding program is all about. 52G is a prime candidate to highlight our vision. Winchester made a powerful statement in last year’s sale, producing one of the largest and highest grossing bred heifer groups in Canada. 52G is also backed by our 80X cow family and her 238E Braxton daughter may be the best direct daughter to date. At an early age, 52G was identified as an elite in her field and has continually impressed us. She dropped a picture prefect udder. She calved in February to our walking herdsire Argo, and produced a powerful, deep chested, maternally focused heifer. The decision of how to rebreed her was pretty easy, after we acquired a semen pack in Canada’s high selling and most positively talked about bull in the industry, Elder’s Houlio. We decided to flush 52G before rebreeding and what a great decision that was, she produced 17 fertilized embryos. We put in all but 5, which are available as Lot 1B. We believe 52G will be one of the most exciting females to sell this fall. The opportunities are endless here and we couldn’t be prouder to offer this female. We reserve the right to one flush in this young female in 2022.

This could easily have been our Lot 1 female of the sale. The excitement around this lot keeps growing and growing. This will be the only opportunity to purchase a female bred to the High Selling Red Factor bull in Canada last year – Pro Char Diamondback 113H. We decided to diversify the bull pen by adding a strong red factor division. Diamondback fit all the requirements and was backed by the Sally female. She is one sound individual and is a direct daughter of the highly proven Captain Morgan herdsire. 44G is a member of our White Arrow cow family that continues to have tremendous success here at Steppler Farms. This cow family has done it all, from winning shows, to producing high level bulls. 44G has knocked it out of the park with her first calf. This performance, maternally backed female could easily find herself in a show ring, and then proceed to develop a cow family of her own.

We are extremely excited about El Paso. We purchased El Paso to follow in Braxton’s footsteps to give us that added performance. He has done exactly that, while maintaining the efficient calving ease. El Paso is heavy haired, sound footed and carries that extra muscle shape. The El Paso females are very consistent in their type, feminine and correct. El Paso is a top senior herdsire here!

We bought Braxton because we believes he had the potential to take our cow herd to the next level. By teaming up with Beck Farms, SK, we were able to purchase this breed leader who was the highest selling bull in Canada that year. Braxton is one of the most impressive bulls that we have ever had walking at Steppler Farms. Braxton is so fluid in his stride; he is quiet, deep chested, huge hipped, with perfect structure, and he comes from a tremendous cow. The calving ease in this sire is second to none. The calves have a tremendous amount of vigour at birth and never look back. The Braxton females are simply awesome. Great milking ability, which directly correlated into the high indexing bulls for our 2020 bull sale.

Big volume, correct as they come, and take a look at the power she exhibits. 294H is also backed by the great 106W cow family, that has produced some great ones, including Steppler Veltro 226A selling to McAvoy Charolais; Steppler Sure Bet 6106D the high selling two-year old bull to T+M Olmstead, and Steppler Miss 150G selling to Harvie Ranching. When touring our mature bull pasture, its hard to miss Charm. Simply put, he’s different. This is a power bull who’s heavy haired and extremely character made. He’s just what we wanted to inject into the bull battery. Check out his daughter in the sale, lot 36, DSY 419H. You won’t find a more complete made female with that fertile front. She is also laying down a beautiful udder. She is bred to the Brimner 9F bull, for end of February. Now for Baron, we unfortunately lost this bull too soon, and weren’t proactive enough to draw semen on him in time. Baron has produced a very unique and sought-after set of calves, even though in small numbers. The lead off son was one of the pen favourites in last year’s bull sale selling into the Munro Farms program, and the female on offer here is a prime example of the power in the females.

HERD HEALTH

Production and efficiencies are very important on our farm. We have a short, intensive breeding program. All females are AI bred for efficiencies and calculated matings. We try to get 95% of the cows exposed in the first cycle with a 70-75% conception rate. Correct, accurate nutrition, high quality semen, and time invested in heat detection and inseminating are the keys to achieving this target. Once the cows go through the 28 day AI program, the herdbulls go to work. Since most of the cows have conceived already, the herdbulls finish the job. The mature bulls easily travel throughout the last 32 days of the breeding program. All females are pregnancy checked early in the summer and culls and opens are taken out We maintain a high and rigorous herd health regime as outlined below. This enables us to have a successful breeding program and ensures potential buyers of the high health standards of these sale cattle.

CALF HERD HEALTH PROTOCOL

• Birth – Inforce 3, Selenium/Vit A, Toltrazuril - Once • 3 weeks of age – Pyramid 4/ Somnugen • Weaning – Pyramind 4/Somnugen, Covexin 8, Ivermectin
