Welcome to The Legacy Bull Sale with Legacy Charolais and BOB Charolais. This is their 2nd sale and anyone who was at last year’s sale, or watched online, knows the quality these two operations are offering. As you look through the catalogue or view the videos online you will get the sense of consistency and uniformity of type. In December, Legacy Charolais won the Alberta Charolais Association Pen of 3 Bull Show in Red Deer. Another testament to the quality of bulls on offer. The bulls are very quiet and there is a great mix of pedigrees with bulls that will calve well, give you the added performance you desire and then have calves that will top the market being in the top sort pens. For the purebred breeders you will find some bulls that can go into any seedstock operation and add value to your program. The sale will be broadcast live on www.dlms.ca, so if you can’t make it to the sale you can bid online. Be sure and register early if you are using this service. If Jon, Candace, or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy Sale Manager: to find you bulls that are right for your program. 124 Shannon Rd, Regina, SK S4S 5B1 Sincerely, 306-584-7937 • Helge By 306-536-4261 Helge & Candace By Candace By 306-536-3374 Jon Wright 306-807-8424 Jon Wright

Legacy Charolais

W

e would like to invite everyone to the Legacy Bull Sale at Legacy Charolais. We, Legacy Charolais, along with our friend, Bob, Bob Charolais, have on offer another large selection of functional yearling bulls in our second annual bull sale together. Our program’s focus has been about using efficient females that produce correct confirmation, easy fleshing, and deep bodied and quiet dispositions bulls. The fact that we strongly believe in benefits of using Charolais genetics in the cattle industry hasn’t changed. Legacy Charolais’ goal is still to offer value adding bulls that will benefit cow herds. Being in the cattle industry consists of very flexible hardworking people and we strive for our bulls to work for those people. Trust in the fact that we offer a product that we stand behind. Selecting bulls to use is making a business decision and we encourage producers to pick a bull that fit’s their herds’ needs. We believe in an open door policy and understand that people are busy; therefore we are always available for bull viewing or inquiries ahead of the sale. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, we are glad to help. To our new and old customers, we genuinely want to thank you for supporting our program. Thank you to our friends and family who help us in all aspects of our farming lives. Without your help, we would not be able to do the things we do. Thank you for taking time to consider our program. Sincerely, Troy and Dianna • 403-742-4265 • legacyfarming@gmail.com

An in-depth look at our program… Troy, Dianna, Hayley and Owen Walgenbach

We have all been raised in the cattle industry, not venturing too far away from it for too long, all ending up making a career of it. So we all take it very seriously. As most producers do, we have set out making the best possible product we can.

The mother herd…

This year we are calving 120 head of cows. We expect efficiency. Our pasture land base is limited and thus the culling criteria is high. Our cows are judged on: confirmation, structure, the ability to flesh naturally, disposition and motherhood. We expect our cows offspring to easily maintain her quality and improve on it. We try to manage our mother cows at a moderate weight thus keeping the cows as healthy as we can so they are at maximum production.

The heifer pen…

To us, these animals are just as important as the bull pen. This is our future. We focus on providing the appropriate nutrition for growth and fertility but we do not feed our heifers so they carry extra conditioning. We judge this pen as if we were walking into a sale to buy them.

The bull pen…

We raise and feed our bulls to keep a condition where they are at a high level of growth without sacrificing longevity. We have chosen to feed our bulls using a fibre based no-starch protein pellet. This pellet is designed to provide the energy required for good growth, but does not contain any added starch (grain). In addition, it contains chelated minerals, trace minerals and Vitamin E at a higher level to promote better skeletal growth, scrotal development and immune response. It also helps with the stomach’s transition from pen to pasture. When we feel their skeletal growth for their age is at a maximum, we then switch to a TMR. We do this to help you see their potential but we do not feed at a rate that we think is going to affect their longevity. Rhonda Walgenbach and Peter Teskey

We would also like fellow producers to know that we do not send any bulls out that we think will have hoof problems or disposition problems in the future. We constantly evaluate the feet underneath our bulls. We believe in the benefit of handling/working with our bulls so they are easy to work with.

We focus on a strong foundation, knowing today’s decisions are leaving a Legacy!

Landmark

Reference Sire: SPARROWS LANDMARK 963W

This is the second year we have been able to offer progeny from this herd sire. He is producing dependable offspring with good dispositions and increased performance. This group of bulls have the thickness, depth, length of spine and good hair we have wanted to add to our bull pen. It is important to note that with the added performance, we have not sacrificed calving ease on cows.

We are continuously trying to improve genetics in our herd. Not only do we add new herd sires, we are continually adding females. It is very important to our program to let go of the cattle that aren’t working, and replace them with younger cattle. These bulls are off of heifers that we purchased last year. We appreciate what these cows have done and are pleased to include their offspring in the sale.

What about BOB? Bobs thoughts… Surround yourself with good people, It will make life a way happier journey! Bob’s Motto… Tell the Truth, Be Kind, and above all else be Thankful.

BUYING BULLS MADE EASY BY BOB: For those of you attending your first video sale here are a few preparation tips! • It’s beneficial to evaluate and score the entire offering and make notes on all the lots so as to not get mixed up or second guess yourself during the sale! • Highlight or circle information pertaining to your acceptable levels, anyone selling calves right off the cow weaning weight is important, finishing your calves you’ll want to see how yearling weights compare, selecting bulls with the most value to your operation. We will make available a list of bulls with their sale day weights and scrotal sizes to help assist you. • Know your herd and your breeding needs, number of cows one bull will cover, size of your cows versus the size of the yearling you’re interested in putting with them. • Have a budget and your allowance for wiggle room figured out, sometimes one more bid is all it takes and can make the difference between owning the bull you wanted versus a second choice. • Come early or come twice to allow your self time to analyze the entire offering, or watch the videos online ahead of time. • Ask questions. That’s what we as owners want. We want to know what you’re wondering about or would like answered. • Register and be prepared to bid online in case an emergency arises, you can also contact either of our operations or our Sale Day Staff to assist you with your needs. • Relax, have a coffee and a snack before finding your preferred seating. • Don’t forget to get insurance after and ask the agent what all it covers and for how long do you carry it. All bulls sell with a passed semen evaluation which is needed for insurance so there will be no hold ups there. Thank you for your interest in the BOB CHAROLAIS OR LEGACY CHAROLAIS PROGRAMS. See ya at the sale!
