A WELCOME FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE My team and I are incredibly proud to bring you this Autumn Programme. We’re also incredibly lucky – our little office looks out over the sea, and inside, are a dedicated team of people who love dance. Every day, they work hard to bring the best small scale dance to Bournemouth, rehearsal space for companies from across the world, classes for more than 1000 people a week, and a UK wide programme of support for artists and promoters. We invite you to join us to explore the theme of love which runs through our autumn programme. From the red hot intensity of SEXBOX and the matrimonial musings of The Knot, to the gripping story of love and loss in rural Punjab in The Troth. PDSW is dedicated to transforming communities through dance, and that starts with you. Come and find out more about the work we do and meet the team at our Open Doors event on 20th September - we'd love to get to know you better. Zannah Doan, Chief Executive.

JULIET AND ROMEO by Lost Dog

Thu 27 Sep, 7.30pm £14/£12/£8 (details p.36) Running time: 75 mins, no interval Age guidance 13+

EXPECT

A squirmingly funny and devastatingly dark 21st century alternative reality for Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers

Lost Dog’s new show reveals the real story of Romeo and Juliet. It turns out they didn’t die in a tragic misunderstanding, they grew up and lived happily ever after. Well, they lived at least.

Join Ben Duke in conversation with Dr James Cole, Course Leader of Creative Writing at Arts University Bournemouth. They’ll discuss the use of Romeo & Juliet as a starting point for his creation, and how the original work continues to have relevance in today’s world.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

INCLUDES POST-SHOW CHAT

Now they are 40ish, at least one of them is in the grips of a mid-life crisis, they feel constantly mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by the pressures of being the poster couple for romantic love. They have decided to confront their current struggles by putting on a performance – about themselves. Their therapist told them it was a terrible idea. With Lost Dog’s blend of dance, theatre and comedy this duet takes on our cultural obsession with youth and our inevitable issues with longevity. Photo by Zoe Manders

SEXBOX by Impermanence Co-presented by Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival and Pavilion Dance South West

Wed 3 Oct, 7.30pm £14/£12/£8 (details p.36)

EXPECT

Running time: 55 mins, no interval Age guidance 16+ May contain flashing lights

A deep dive into liberation, perversion and sensuality

PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

Impermanence are blowing themselves up and climaxing just for you! SEXBOX sits somewhere between a conventional contemporary dance work, a fashion show, a cabaret night, a contemporary art installation, a punk gig, and a music video. Looking at sex through the eyes and ears of private musician Ursula Bogner, you’ll be taken deep into stranger and stranger domains of liberation, perversion and sensuality. Bogner was a pioneer of electronic music working in suburban Germany in the 60’s. She became fascinated with the writings of Wilhelm Reich, a psychoanalyst for whom a healthy discharge of sexual energy was the crux of humanity’s salvation. SEXBOX is a portrait of these fascinating individuals, and a danced response to their music and ideas. Find out more: www.artsbythesea.co.uk Photo by Aaron Davies

PDSW CHILDREN’S DANCE PARTY

A huge thank you for giving our daughter the best birthday party that she could ever wish for! Jasmine was completely amazing with the children and prepared a terrific routine – we could tell she had put a lot of thought into arranging something that worked for that age group. Our daughter has not stopped smiling since. All of the parents complimented us for arranging such a brilliant party. Thank You! A Parent

Wed 5 Dec – Fri 7 Dec, 7.30pm

CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS

£10/£8 Conc

It’s easy to assume that happiness is just around the corner, in the hands of others, or only for a chosen category of people. The beautiful thing is, it’s actually there for the taking, inside us all of the time, bubbling away waiting to be embraced. Can we navigate our way around the many viewing platforms available in this life, to find where each of us, as unique human beings place ourselves on the happiness spectrum? Performed by second year BA (Hons) Dance

students and directed by Course Leader, Jane White, this piece of original dance theatre is created in response to the idea of finding joy in the every day and letting go of perfect This production is a collaboration between 2nd year BA (Hons) Dance students and 3rd year BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design students.
