This was said by Nxanelw’imfundo Senior Primary School pupil Sharon Gadu (13) who was one of the pupils from the school who picketed outside Motherwell’s Magistrate Court last week during the trial of two suspects who were arrested for breaking in at the school and stealing two computers. The school, which is situated in Bunyuluza Street, NU 8 Motherwell, has about 1 300 pupils of which about 100 took part in the picket. Learners carried placards that read: “No bail for burglary!”, “Keep vandals in jail for life!” and“No, to vandalism!” “We want them to be jailed for a long time so that they can leave us in peace to continue with our education. What they did is wrong and unfair,” said a well-spoken Gadu. “We have been experiencing a spate of vandalism at the school and as a result our computer lab has been totally destroyed,” said the school’s HOD Thamsanqa Kepe. He said that on more than one occasion thugs have broken through the asbestos roof and the ceiling and got into the computer lab, the staff-room and the office to steal all

TWO vehicle licensing and registration authorities were officially opened in Port Elizabeth last week to assist especially the local motor trade who have had to cope with only one centre up to now. The Eastern Cape MEC for Transport Thandiswa Marawu officially opened the Gelvandale and Newton Park post offices’ vehicle licensing and registration services as part of the October Transport Month Campaign and the fulfillment of a promise made by MEC Marawu during her policy speech presentation in March 2012. “The aim is to assist the motor manufacturers, motor dealers, importers and builders”, said Marawu. Newton Park and Gelvandale Post Offices are located in areas
where the highest number of vehicles are being registered and licensed and this will ensure that the demand is met head-on. And in time, it is also hoped that the service will be available at every Post Office in the province. Over the last three years, 1,5 million transactions have been done at 102 branches offering this facility in the Eastern Cape. The registration and renewal process works through a secure, real-time link to the National Transport Information System (eNaTIS). Each Post Office point-ofsale terminal will provide a valid disc and Post Office receipt against payment and motorists must produce a printed renewal notice to renew a motor vehicle licence. All post offices are open on Saturday mornings and many on a Sunday, which gives motorists more convenient times to renew
their vehicle licences “The Motor Vehicle Licence (MVL) renewal service is one demonstration of how the SA Post Office is enhancing its partnership with the Government for the benefit and convenience of all citizens,” says Ndala Mnisi, Group Executive Retail at the South African Post Office. “The Eastern Cape Transport Department chose the Post Office to offer the service thanks to our network system and our reach,” he added. A registering authority is an authority which has a mandate of issuing duplicate registration certificates, processing applications for the reduction of tare weight on new trucks, registering and de-registration, as well as licensing of motor vehicles, processing of applications for the introduction of motor vehicles and renewal of licences.

Security trainees employed for festive season HEILIE COMBRINCK In creating opportunities for unemployed persons, a group of women has received security training and has been deployed in the Uitenhage central business area to assist the police during the forthcoming festive season. Their training forms part of the expanded pubic works programme of which the Uitenhage Despatch Development Initiative acts as the implementing agent on behalf of Nelson Mandela Bay. “We are grateful towards the police as they are the first stakeholders to offer working opportunities to these EPWP trainees,” said Milisa Piko from the UDDI. “The purpose of the programme is
for the trainees to assist wherever there already is infrastructure in place, but lack of manpower. It is all about offering working opportunities. The aim is for the trainees after the three month period to have attained the skills and working experience which will enable them to apply for a full time job,” said Piko. During the first phase of the EPWP 40 trainees had the opportunity to receive training in security, general maintenance work or environmental and agricultural activities. Training is provided by registered service providers. Col. André Swart from the Uitenhage police said: “With the festive season ahead these women will act as our ‘eyes’ in identified hot spot crime areas. They are in constant contact with us reporting any suspicious activities or persons.”

Police dog sniffs out dagga worth R700 000 NCEBA DLADLA DAGGA with an estimated street value of R700 000 was seized in a covert operation by Uitenhage K9 member Detective Warrant Officer Jacque Adlem and his dog Bowie last Friday. Adlem, of Addo SAPS, seized the 33 bags of dagga weighing over 507kg and had two men arrested for dealing in dagga. “It is alleged that at about 9:40pm on Friday while the officers were holding obser-
vation on the Addo main road, an LDV bakkie with tinted windows passed them. The officers became suspicious of the vehicle and asked the driver to stop,” said police spokesperson Lt. Col. Priscilla Naidu. Upon searching the vehicle, Bowie sniffed out the dagga compactly packed in bags. W/O Adlem arrested the suspects. Police believe that the dagga was from Mthatha area en route to Port Elizabeth. The two suspects are from Kleinskool in Port Elizabeth.

Is High Blood Pressure curable? High Blood Pressure cannot be permanently cured. However, it can be permanently controlled. By following the plan outlined by your health provider you can get your blood pressure down to normal levels and keep it there. As long as you follow that plan you are preventing further damage from taking place.

NCEBA DLADLA GOSPEL Sensation Sihle Mathunjwa visited Nelson Mandela Bay recently to promote his debut solo album “Uyangikhathalela”. Mathunjwa, of Johannesburg, is a member of the famous Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, but is now promoting his solo career. He sang during Bay TV’s First Birthday Celebrations and also preached at churches around the Bay. “I came here to share what is inside of me. I came to give my all – the real Sihle – to the people of Nelson Mandela Bay,” said Mathunjwa who regards himself as the minister of the word and not just an entertainer. Mathunjwa said some people recognised him as a member of Ncadweni Christ’s Ambassadors and for that he was grateful. But he was quick to add: “Those who did not know me before, quickly realised the most powerful thing inside of me; and that is what I want to share.” His said he sings about his own experiences and mostly about the love of God and His Amazing Grace to give hope. Having received love, he said he wants to give love. The love that is free and available to those who yearn for it. “My main aim is to minister and change peoples’ lives. I was once down and was dumped by friends but the Lord lifted me up in order to tell
the tales. God said to me, “I care”, and He does not change, said a proud Mathunjwa who is the director and owner of Chavone Music Productions, the company he wants to use to promote the music of up-and-coming musicians and believers. “Through my company I have started a programme of helping young artists who are saved - to establish their music careers in an attempt to change the world,” said Mathunjwa. This married father of one promised to come back to Nelson Mandela Bay in November to record a live DVD.

ELSON Mandela Bay boxing fans will be in for a treat as Sibongile Nkebe, head of Silindokuhle Boxing Promotions will headline an eight-bout bill at the Jeff Masemola Community Hall in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage on Saturday, November 3. Two of the bouts will feature female boxers – one professional and one amateur – while Nkebe has managed to draw boxers from George, Grahamstown, Peddie,
Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage for his bill. The main bout will be between Uitenhage lads Lonwabo Roboshi and Bulelani Jacobs over eight rounds in the Mini-flyweight division. In the main-supporting bout over six rounds, in the Flyweight division, Uitenhage’s idol Lwandile Phillip will face his home-boy Siyabonga Blou in what promises to be a humdinger. Newly-crowned Western Cape Junior bantamweight champion, Wiseman Kega from George, will engage Uitenhage’s Mzuvukile Daniels over six non-title fight

Successful season for NMMU Madibaz Ladies Football team
A NEW coach, an almost completely brand-new team and a mediocre previous season led to very few people giving the NMMU Madibaz Ladies Football team a fighting chance. Most said this year would be their building phase, but the team proved them wrong. The NMMU Madibaz Ladies Football team are the Intervarsity Champs and PEFA League Champs for 2012 and qualified for the USSA Nationals in Cape Town in December 2012. They were also the runners-up in the Fain Women’s Month Celebration Tournament 2012. Six of the players, Cawekazi Daca, Susan Wells, Nasreen Astrie, Nomzamo Maheneza, Nombifuthi Mncwango and Lebohang Mbata,
were selected to play for the Port Elizabeth Football Association squad to play in the recently held Inter LFA Competition. This squad was coached and captained by Madibaz’s Douleen Whitebooi and Cawekazi Daca respectively. The squad then went on to win the tournament with Coach Douleen winning Coach of the Tournament and Madibaz striker Susan Wells winning Player of the Tournament. The Madibaz have failed to make it a clean sweep at PEFA by losing the Cup Final against Mustangs 1-4 on Saturday, October 6. Having beaten Mustangs on three occasions during the past season, the Madibaz Ladies were confront-
ed by a highly charged Mustangs team. The Madibaz ladies had to be satisfied with the runners-up spot, to cap a highly successful season. As a result of the great season the ladies have had, the team was offered a spot in the second best league in country for ladies’ football. The team accepted the new challenge and preparations are now underway for this incredible team’s run in the SAFA Women’s Regional League. The team now looks ahead to December for the USSA National Club Championship. With very little experience at that level they are looking forward to competing as the tournament underdogs.

pled Westham 4-0. In an enterprising game Chatty United showed determination and character despite their 1-0 loss to the gutsy Rangers. Glenville Celtic FC secured a narrow win of 2-1 over Stardrift.
The hot favourites Ebenezer were stunned by Wolves who eliminated them 2-1. In the semi-finals other favourites Blackpool were stunned by Glenville Celtic FC which edged them out 1-0 with Rangers beating Wolves 2-1.

Spurs secure first win SELBY MADIKANE A LONG drought ended when Tottenham Spurs registered their first victory of the Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) Build It Premier League season. They beat the resilient Real Strikers 2-1 at the NU 9 Stadium on 7 October. Strikers scored first with a goal courtesy of Themba Kilana. Spurs duo Thando Mthalane and Songezo Ntakana combined well, causing problems for Strikers defenders. Ntakana became the hero of the day when he netted two goals; one goal from the penalty spot in the first half and the last one in the dying minutes of the game.

Of course, we’ve got the knowledge and expertise,” said Sishana. Cllr Lobishe assured visiting players, officials and fans of their safety during Afcon South Africa 2013. She said it was now incum-
bent upon residents to create the vibe - as “this is ours”. This is the time for Nelson Mandela Bay to shine, according to Sishana, a time for the football loving people to mobilise others to start buying tickets and attend the games when the matches begin. MEC Tom encouraged Government officials and their Departments to buy tickets. She said government will make sure that young people and those coming from rural areas also get the feel of this CAF Competition. Tickets are sold throughout Superspar outlets in the Eastern Cape ranging from R120 to R500. All tickets bought before the main draw takes place on 24 October will carry a 20% discount.
