Lifeline for Bayworld? NWABISA FUNDE

T

HE Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), together with the Municipal Public Account Committee (Mpac), are looking to assist in determining the future of the Bayworld Oceanarium. An on-site visit was conducted by representatives of the MBDA and Mpac last week. The on-site visit was led by Bayworld’s curator, Dylan Bailey, who pointed out the neglected areas in the oceanarium and suggested possible solutions on how to proceed further on resolving the current state of these areas. In the past, the oceanarium has been a favourite among many with a variety of exciting ocean wildlife and reptiles. But in recent years it has fallen into disrepair owing to many problems, including the departure of the Bay’s favourite dolphins, Dumisa and Domino. The poor state of parts of the oceanarium, such as the dolphin pool and the shark tank, has raised major concern. “We are here in order to bring everyone together, engage in conversation and possibly allocate spaces in terms of ensuring that developments get up and running,” said Yoliswa Yako, chairperson of Mpac. “The on-site visit should be the beginning of answering questions, such as what’s the best design that could assist with a solution to the dilapidated areas in the oceanarium, as we do not have the luxury of time,” said Bailey. It is expected that the MBDA and Mpac will move forward together in discussing what strategies can be implemented to resurrect Bayworld to its former glory. The various stakeholders will be engaging in meetings next month.

Isuzu supports IRONMAN 4 the Kids project in township REPORTER PROVIDING sustainable solutions through solid partnerships is fundamental to Isuzu Motors South Africa’s (IMSAf) business philosophy.

Based on this philosophy, Isuzu ChildLife Foundation and IMSAf has donated R400 000 to the IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust to build a crèche in Walmer township. Situated next to the Sakhasonke Village in Walmer township, the creche would provide much-needed space to a current crèche owner operating from her home, providing care to 27 children between the ages of six months and five years. The new building would be big enough to accommodate a total of 50 children. IMSAf’s corporate communications manager, Gishma Johnson, said Isuzu had a longstanding partnership with the triathlon organisers, which started eight years ago. “We are very excited to partner with the trust on the building of the crèche, since this is a legacy project that fits in perfectly with our corporate social responsibility goals of adding value to the community in a sustainable manner,” Johnson said. Touch Africa trustee, Mike Glover, said Touch Africa would ensure that this initiative was sustainable and measurable. “The creche will also be built by artisans residing in Walmer Township and will create employment for at least 10 labourers during the eight-week build. Isuzu has had a long relationship with Touch Africa, who, over the last five years, have built 45 libraries and five crèches

and Isuzu has played a major role in the delivery of materials and books,” Glover said. Speaking at the official sod-turning, IRONMAN 4 the Kidz trustee and co-founder Gary Stephenson said the plan was for the 70m2 crèche building, which would consist of a classroom, kitchen, veranda and bathroom, to be completed by August this year. “This creche is situated on the route of the cycling leg of the triathlon and it is important for us to leave a legacy of the continent’s biggest challenge. The aim is to have the building completed in time for the IRONMAN World Champs,” Stephenson said. This year is a busy year for the friendly city, with a second IRONMAN event, the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, taking place in Port Elizabeth - the first city on the African continent to host the highly competitive competition. “We would like to show these athletes what we are doing in the country for the children, through the help of the IRONMAN fraternity and generous corporate sponsors, such as Isuzu,” Stephenson said. IRONMAN 4 the Kidz has this year exceeded its target to collect R2.2 million for the various charity organisations they support. The trust has been in existence for 14 years and has distributed over R17.2 million to a wide range of beneficiaries. Similarly, the Isuzu ChildLife Foundation, a partnership between IMSAf and the dealer network, has successfully supported 67 underprivileged child-focused projects across South Africa in the past eight years.

SAPS members complete cancer awareness walk REPORTER THE Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Asset Management, Major General Tembeka Dyantyi and the Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile, welcomed to the Eastern Cape four courageous former and current police officials who sacrificed three weeks to walk from Bloemfontein to Port Elizabeth in support of cancer awareness.

On May 7 Deon van der Merwe (60), a former police officer lieutenant colonel from the Bloemfontein K9 Unit, set out on foot together with three SAPS colleagues on a journey from Bloemfontein to Port Elizabeth to raise awareness and funds for CANSA. The group walked over 600km and on May 24 they descended on the friendly city of Port Elizabeth. They were received by the SAPS K9 and

Mounted Unit’s dogs and horses. In August 2015, Deon van der Merwe’s wife, who was also an SAPS member, succumbed to the deadly disease. Van der Merwe walked this distance to honour his wife, Johlene’s ,long and courageous fight against breast cancer. Van der Merwe also aimed at using this walk as an encouragement of hope and support to all SAPS members who are living with cancer. Patekile, in his welcoming address to the walkers, expressed his appreciation and praise to the team for choosing the Eastern Cape as a destination for creating cancer awareness. “Knowing that you have cancer is not the end of the world, but instead, with early detection and treatment, you can prolong or overcome the disease,” concluded Patekile. Heidi Boshoff, who is employed at Mount Road SAPS, was at the event to share her story of overcoming breast cancer.

Runners hit the road in support of anti-littering ANIKA DE BEER

conscious of their environment, so why can’t we replicate the idea?” The PE 32Gi Running Club is a small, family-oriented club that has only been in existence since the start of 2017 and currently has 40 members. They come together for an organised time trial at the Victoria Park Bowling Club in South End every Thursday at 17:30 and last week they decided to try plogging for the first time. All runners are welcome to join the club members for either the 5km or 8km route. Before the club tested the plogging idea for the first time last Thursday, May 24, Mandell said that if everything went well, he would encourage all EPA clubs to try it out as well. Though only about 10 runners pitched up, he considered the event a success. “I think doing this in summer would be better as the light fades rather quickly around this time of the year. We could do it once a month, however,” he said.

A GROWING concern among Nelson Mandela Bay residents about the increasing problem of illegal dump sites and littered roads has motivated local runners to start looking for ideas to curb it.

Here are the PE 32Gi Running Club athletes who tried out the plogging idea last Thursday. PHOTO:SUPPLIED

As part of a new anti-littering campaign, the PE 32Gi Running Club decided to test one of the ideas, called “plogging”, to address the problem. According to Jonathan Mandell, the chairman of the club, plogging was started in Sweden. It essentially requires a jogger to jog and pick up trash at the same time. “There is a growing concern among runners regarding the increased litter at road races, not only in Port Elizabeth but across the country,” Mandell said. “We need to first educate runners and find innovative ways to create awareness. We see plogging as an innovative way. “This idea I picked up on social media and thought the Swedes are very

“We decided to do only the 5km. “Within 40 minutes, the amount of trash that was collected was unbelievable. I am a little embarrassed about the amount of trash that lies around our town. “If we could get every running club to do this once a year, it would certainly help,” Mandell said. According to Mandell, they have not presented the idea to the EPA board yet, but once that is done, they will roll out the campaign. “The planned presentation and approval to their approach will be held on June 4. “The big issue presently is the amount of litter that is left on route by runners. We as runners all have a responsibility to ensure that litter is disposed of in the correct manner. Many of the plastic sachets, gel packs and other littler end up in the environment. “For that reason, we have started an anti-littering campaign in EPA. “We would like to implore all runners and spectators to embrace this and do their part,” he said.

Westway Café family going home to Cotswold Extension ZELDRÉ STRAUSS SWANEPOEL “WE are going home!” These were the words of an overjoyed Hellen Scriven, owner of the iconic Westway Café in Cape Road, which has become synonymous with booking tickets for local shows, at the announcement that the store is moving back to their roots in Cotswold Extension. Hellen and her husband, Des-

mond, started the Cotswold Extension Supermarket in Lewerkie Street, Cotswold 20 years ago, but had to relocate to Cape Road 13 years ago after the owner of the building needed the space for something else. The store had been in Cotswold for about seven years and they had also lived in the same street. “We were very sad to leave because our little store had become part of the community.” The building has recently been

From then it escalated from selling tickets manually to selling online on Westway Tickets today.” Three years ago Westway Tickets became a fully-fledged online operation, with people being able to book and pay for tickets online on www.westway.co.za instead of coming to the shop to purchase tickets. Hellen’s son, Mark explained, “Other ticket sale websites work differently to ours. “We designed it in such a way to best suit our customers, with that personal touch, because that is how we have always done our business. “We will continue with Westway Tickets in the same way as before. It will not be affected by our move at all,” Mark said. “Our Facebook page name has changed from Westway Café to Westway Tickets. No changes to the tickets system or website will be

acquired by Pieter Rademeyer, who contacted the Scrivens to find out if they would like to move back. “I did not even think about it. I immediately said yes!” Scriven said. “Our new store will be bigger and also offer lots more, such as takeaways. Our trading hours will be longer to accommodate the school children of Moregrove Primary and the quarry staff. I am so grateful to Pieter for considering us as tenants.” The Scrivens started the store when Desmond went on early retirement. “At that time I was an area manager for a big retail store and I was driving 7000km a month. So, when Desmond retired, I decided to resign and we opened our store, the Cotswold Extension Supermarket in Lewerkie Street Cotswold Extension.” She started selling show tickets by chance. “When we were still at our Cotswold store, we were ap-

‘PE Express’ manager to speak at world media congress BETTIE GILIOMEE PORT Elizabeth Express and its sister Express publications across the Eastern Cape will feature at a prestige media conference in Washington where the newspaper’s general manager, Tasmia Ismail, will be giving a presentation. Ismail, who is the general manager of EP Media and Die Burger (Oos-Kaap) is the only person from South Africa selected to speak at the Inma World Congress of News Media, which will be attended by hundreds of key roleplayers in the media industry worldwide from tomorrow until June 5. In its 88th year, the congress is described as “the indispensable conference for strategists, catalysts, audience-builders, and revenue executives from the leading news media companies”. Ismail was selected by Media24 CEO, Esmaré Weideman, and Media24’s general manager of print media, Ishmet Davidson, to speak at the congress. According to Ismail, the topic of her presentation will be “The Power of Local” and it is based on best practice in the successful launches of EP Media’s free Express newspapers in the Eastern Cape. “I will also be discussing the challenges that we face in this market and how we address them. “This audience is also very interested in the financial returns of such expansion and we will talk them through some numbers on print orders, revenue growth and profit growth,” said Ismail. “The success of our growth really comes from one core element, our people, and this is where I get to brag about EP Media’s cohesive thinking, collaborative contribution and integrated workflow. “This is an amazing opportunity to showcase the Eastern Cape, especially Port Elizabeth, on a global platform. Whilst I am privileged and honoured to be

Her career with the company started in KwaZulu-Natal with distribution company On the Dot in 2001. After this she relocated to Port Elizabeth where she was appointed at Die Burger (OosKaap) in 2004 as junior sales representative. By attending the congress she hopes to gain global insights on the ever-changing landscape of print media and to understand the wins and challenges in this space. “The next phase for news content is digital and I think this is where key learnings lie. I am hoping to bring back the global best practices on digital strategies in the media space. With all this said, I hope to just have an amazing Washington experience,” said Ismail.

Dr Ferreira retires after 29 years of giving life ‘I had an interest in gynaecology since back in school.’

NWABISA FUNDE AFTER bringing more than 7 000 babies into the word, one of Port Elizabeth’s most loved gynaecologists will be hanging up the white coat in June. Dr André Ferreira (60) who completed his studies at the University of Stellenbosch in 1989, has worked with approximately 29 000 women over his career spanning 29 years. “I had an interest in gynaecology since back in school. “I found the ability to deliver babies a rewarding occupation,” said Ferreira. One of the highlights of his career was being able to deliver a baby for a patient who had previously suffered 13 miscarriages. Ferreira’s retirement is bittersweet for

- DR. ANDRÉ FERREIRA Ferreira’s team along with his patients, who will miss his expertise but also want him to put his feet up after all his hard work. Office manager for his practice at Life St Georges Hospital Maureen Prinsloo described Ferreira as a “patient-holic” as he always strived for the best of his patients’ well-being. All his existing patients will henceforth be treated at Fembryo at Life St Georges. Ferreira has three adult children, two of whom are doctors and one who is still study-

ing at university. His wife, Doreen, described him as “the most humble man.” She is happy that he will be able to spend more time at home, as his busy schedule had been part of their family’s lives for many years. “There were times when we would be having a braai and he would get a call to go and deliver a baby. “He really had a passion and love for what he did,” she said. Ferreira said he would take time after his retirement to focus on exercising, particularly cycling and hiking, which are activities he hardly had time for when he was running his practice. ; Dr André Ferreira after another successful delivery. Russian ballet dance returns to the Bay REPORTER THE Crown of the Russian Ballet dance company will perform a double bill, The Firebird and Paquita, at the PE Opera House on July 31 for two performances at 17:00 and 20:00. Firebird is based on a Russian legend about a bird, a powerful good spirit, whose feathers convey beauty and protection upon the earth. Other characters from Russian folklore, including the heroic Prince Ivan Tsarevich, and the evil sorcerer,Kashchei, from whom Ivan must rescue the princess he loves, are included in this ballet. It is only through the intervention of the firebird, whose life Ivan spares early in the ballet, that he is able to destroy the evil Kashchei, and marry the princess. Composer Stravinsky borrowed a few Russian folk melodies for this score, but most of the ballet, especially the fluttering dance of the fire-

Russian ballerinas in action. bird and the memorable wedding march at the ballet’s conclusion, were his own creation. When Firebird was first performed in Paris in

PHOTOS:SUPPLIED

1910, the principal ballerina refused to dance the role of the Firebird, declaring that she detested the music, and had to be replaced.

The ballerina’s objections notwithstanding, Stravinsky achieved instant recognition as one of the most original and powerful composers of his generation. Paquita, a romantic ballet by Ludwig Minkus, tells the story of a beautiful Spanish girl, Paquita who, as an infant, was saved from a pirate massacre by a gypsy family. Owing to her social standing, her romance with a French nobleman, Lucien, cannot flourish, but while travelling the country, gypsies help Paquita find her real family, and when it is discovered that she is the daughter of a nobleman, Paquita and Lucien reunite. The ballet was first presented by the Paris Opera Ballet in 1846, and the next year Marius Petipa staged it for the Imperial Ballet of St Petersburg, as his very first work. Bookings are now open at Computicket and block bookings receive a 10% discount. For more info contact Monica Hewitson on 083 471 8893.

Homeschooled children to hold entrepreneurs market REPORTER THE children of the Port Elizabeth homeschool community are excitedly preparing to showcase the skills they have learned with a special entrepreneurs market at Fountain Vineyard Church in Miramar on Saturday. The community has grown in the past few years as more and more families choose to homeschool their children. They are a large group of families who work together as a unit to provide the social and cultural needs of their children without sending them to mainstream schools. A group comes

together every week for sports activities, art lessons, visits to museums and much more. “The group has more than 100 families represented just in the junior section – the children’s ages range from two to around 12,” said Megan Bennett, the admin of the group. According to Tersia Muston, a member of the homeschool community, the increase in the number of home-schooled children is because of schools being overcrowded and issues like bullying and other safety concerns. “Many of the children also need more oneon-one attention,” she added. “They have the opportunity to focus more on what their interests are and specialise in

PE EXPRESS | WEDNESDAY 30 MAY 2018

COMPETITION: WIN A NEW BATTERY

Battery Centre gets a new spark SOUTH Africa’s trusted battery specialists, Battery Centre, has unveiled its new look, revolutionising the next step in the brand’s journey. The extensive rebrand is now being rolled out nationwide, building on their brand identity and proud South African heritage. Since its inception in 1969, Battery Centre has evolved into a fully-fledged retail battery powerhouse, fuelling industries with innovative technology and placing the customer at the heart of the company. The first Battery Centre opened its doors in Bloemfontein in 1969 to distribute batteries manufactured by First National Battery. By adding Battery Centre to the family decades ago, First National Battery created the first battery retail powerhouse on the continent. The brand became so popular it was franchised in 1976. Today, there are 150 Battery Centres nationwide. “We have come a long way since we first opened our doors in Bloemfontein nearly 50 years ago,” said Andrew Webb, marketing director. “Being the largest battery fitment powerhouse with more than 150 stores nationwide, we needed our brand identity to take us to the next level without detracting from our rich, iconic heritage.” The brand’s icon (affectionately known as Sparky by customers), has been at the core of Battery Centre’s journey. The widely known icon has also been given a facelift while staying true to its heritage. The brand’s new look is noticeably different from competitors, in the same way that

their values are markedly different from the industry in which it operates. The brand is synonymous with outstanding service and a 24- or 36-month nationwide warranty on which motorists can trust and depend. Battery Centre is the largest fitment network in the country, meaning motorists can speak to their trusted battery specialists wherever they are for all their battery needs. With its finger on the mark of innovative technology, Battery Centre is the only outlet that offers motorists Raylite batteries. Raylite batteries have cutting-edge technology which is trusted by 100% of car manufacturers in South Africa. Raylite is also leading stop/start technology with car batteries that deliver more than 10% cranking current, three times longer cycle life and a nationwide warranty. With this new chapter in Battery Centre’s journey, the brand is now poised to take its equity and heritage to the next level. Watch this space. Visit www.batterycentre.co.za for more information. WIN! WIN! WIN! The PE Express is giving away vouchers for a brand-new vehicle battery and free battery check to three readers, valued at R2 500 each. To enter, simply find the Battery Centre logo on our Facebook page (PE Express), answer the easy question and share the post with your Facebook friends. Winners will be contacted on Facebook. The competition is only open to residents in the PE Express distribution area. Entries close on June 6 at 15:00.

PE Plett and Prudential join forces REPORTER PE PLETT, one of South Africa’s most renowned mountain bike stage races, has announced the signing of Prudential Investment Managers as its new title sponsor. Going forward, this four-day MTB stage race will now be known as the Prudential PE PLETT. Starting at Woodridge School, outside of Port Elizabeth, the journey will take 200 riders on a four-day roller coaster ride through some of the finest and varied mountain biking real estate that South Africa has to offer. The final descent on day four, which traverses down the Otters Trail into Natures Valley, makes for one of the most beautiful and exhilarating finishes on two wheels. Mike Glover, of Red Cherry Adventures,

said the profile of the riders who are affluent adventure seekers is a perfect fit for Prudential. “We are truly excited to be the race that will introduce our new title sponsor to the wonderful world of mountain biking,” Glover said. Head of marketing Sumayya Davenhill said, “We’re excited about this sponsorship as we feel that there is good synergy and fit for the Prudential brand and its attributes. “It’s a race that requires consistent focus, determination and guts, values that we subscribe to at a Prudential.” The Prudential PE PLETT will be staged from February 14 to 17 next year. The organisers are already hard at work, cutting new trails and revamping the brand new race village. For more info go to www.peplett.co.za.

I tried severall healers but they were giving me false hope and many empty promises but my friend told me about prof surprise. I went to his miracle centre. He told me about my past and present and future. Everything he said was true, he told me that the previous healers were weak they couldn/t manage to take away the bad luck on me, that is why they failed. I saw this powerful Shamsi on a TV programme. Before I had suffered for years and I tried many people for help but all failed. I could not believe it when he showed me my enemies in form of a dream and whatever they were doing to me. Every single detail he showed me about my enemies was so true. Shamsi accurately read my fortune and told me all my problems without me speaking a single word to him. Within 6 days after his prayers, my husband left his girlfriend and came back to me plus my enemies approached me and confessed the bad things they had done to me. Shamsi also gave me a special ring to fix my financial problems, and a love crystal that made people at home and at work to like me, listen to me and do whatever I want, without me even having to ask.

She also helps people with: • Financial Problems • Love Relationship • Work Crises • Family Problems • Bad Luck Health Problems • and many more...

TALKING F1: NATALIE LE CLUE

Daniel Ricciardo rules Monaco streets FOR several reasons the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix will go down as one of the most bizarre races on the streets of the Principality. First, there was the laptime that secured pole position. At just over seventy seconds Daniel Ricciardo’s time of one minute ten point eight seconds obliterated the circuit record and the rest of the field. While Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was roughly two and a half tenths off the Red Bull’s pace, it felt like a faraway and impossible lap to beat. Not only was Ricciardo easily quickest in quali, but also dominated all three practice

sessions preceding it. There was seemingly nothing that could stop the Aussie from claiming his win in Monaco. However, it wouldn’t prove to be a straightforward task as he had to contend with running more than half the race with the use of only six gears and decreased power due to a failure of the MGU-K system. Besides this, he and all the front-runners had to nurse their tyres to the end of the 78 lap race by lapping significantly slower than their ultimate pace. To make the one-stop strategy work, the front five of Ricciardo, Vettel, Hamilton, Raikkonen, and Bottas were, on occasion, turning in laptimes in the 1:19s, while the midfield were easily in the 1:17s, some even in the 1:16s. But such is the characteristics of Monaco that overtaking is nigh impossible. Though he tried his utmost to take advantage of Ricciardo’s issues, Sebastian Vettel couldn’t take the lead of the race and finished second on the road. While Ricciardo

struggled with a slow car, his tyres were in relatively good nick. Ironically, it was vice versa for Vettel who had a fast car but nothing to play with in terms of tyres. Equally struggling to coax the ultrasoft tyre to the chequered flag was Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver dubbed the race “the most boring” he’d ever been involved in but was able to limit the damage to his championship lead to three points. Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas showed a good turn of pace, but both were unable to follow through due to the lack of overtaking opportunities in Monaco. The Finnish duo finished fourth and fifth respectively. Elsewhere, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg came home in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively. Max Verstappen did manage to pull off some importantly clean overtakes to finish ninth. The Dutchman started plumb last after crashing in the final practice session and

not getting out for qualifying. This latest incident makes it six out of six crashes for Verstappen so far in 2018. While he may be adamant that he does not have to change anything in his approach, reality suggests otherwise. Renault’s Carlos Sainz snapped up the final point on offer. Despite the tight confines of the street circuit, there was unusually few issues and only three cars retired from the race. Fernando Alonso pulled off with a gearbox issue, while brake failure caused Sauber’s Charles LeClerc to run into the back of Brendon Hartley, putting both of them out of the race. Even this incident necessitated only the Virtual Safety Car for a couple of laps. The 2018 Monaco GP won’t go down in history as one of the great races, but Daniel Ricciardo’s performance will. With a wounded car he pulled off a memorable win that will be incredibly popular up and down the pitlane. It’s no doubt as to why his signature has become one of the hottest commodities in the sport.

Wells United claim victory against Real Strikers SELBY MADIKANE FOLLOWING recent dismal performances, Wells United FC managed to edge out Real Strikers RFC 2-0 in their Motherwell Football Association (MOFA) Premier League clash at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Saturday. Fans were kept on their feet as the players displayed their football skills. The goalkeepers stood their ground in the first half and they went to the break in a goal-

less draw. Strikers midfielder cum striker Zolani Zane Mofu’s efforts went wide. Long-serving Unitedplayer Lucas Rhuu Mgushe scored the opening goal that separated the two sides. Mofu could have pulled an equaliser for Strikers, but United’s goalkeeper was equal to the task. United stretched their lead to 2-0 after Mvuzo Kahla scored the last goal of the game. In another game, Real Aces lost 2-0 to Young Ideas, while Young Tigers shared a 1-1 draw with Manchester FC.

Manchester United beat Young Madrid 2-0 with Highland Spurs defeating City Rangers 2-0. Tomorrow Stars embarrassed Shining Stars 4-0 in their one-sided clash. Men separated from boys in EP Grand Challenge Rugby SELBY MADIKANE FANS saw the men being separated from the boys during the Eastern Province (EP) Grand Challenge Rugby League games on Saturday. Gardens excitedly claimed a 19-8 win from Missionvale RFC in front of their home supporters at Missionvale. Despatch RFC showed no mercy when they handed Windvogel RFC a 36-3 defeat in Despatch, while Wallabies RFC drew 17-17 with Brumbies RFC. Suburban RFC home supporters saw their side lose 19-14 to Trying Stars RFC in their tough battle. Playing in front of their home supporters at Jabavu Rugby Stadium, Star of

Hope RFC dug deep to secure their narrow 25-19 victory over the gutsy Progress RFC. The visiting side, Bourn Fighters RFC, aced a tough assignment when they earned a hard-fought 18-17 victory over SAPS RFC. Park RFC were on top of their game when they cruised to a comfortable 41-21 triumph over Jeffreys Bay RFC. To the dismay of Spring Rose RFC’s supporters, their side crashed to a 5-55 defeat when they hosted Kruisfontein RFC at New Brighton Oval Stadium. Following their excellent performance, Barbarians RFC went down 39-27 to Harlequins RFC in their away clash that was played at a full Adcock Stadium in Korsten.

REPORTER

MORNING Stars RFC made history when they defeated Hilltop Eagles RFC for the first time since the start of their campaign in the EP Rugby Adam’s Cup League at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Saturday. Amagqunukhwebe, as Morning Stars are affectionately known by their supporters, whacked Eagles 63 -7 in their match. Eagles, who previously dominated Amagqunukhwebe, saw their unbeaten record come to an abrupt end. Stars registered their first try courtesy of right wing Lithalethu Gola. The home team increased their score to 12-0 after their lock forward, Mkhanyiseli Ngcewu, scored a try that he converted himself. It seemed as if the flood gates opened as Stars kept on collecting points, with their third try coming from centre Athenkosi Lusiba to increase the score to 17-0. Ngcewu came up with his second try that he converted, further extending their lead to 24-0. Amagqunukhwebe’s eighth man, Mabandla
