But she disappeared while the nurses were treating the premature baby at the BG3 Antenatal Ward. Before that, Notemba allegedly stole money and other valuables from unsuspecting nursing sisters. “She came across as someone who was experiencing problems and we fell for her lies and became sympathetic,” said Sr Nokuzola Lawu. Nothemba told them she was raped by a stranger whilst pregnant with her boyfriend’s child. According to Lawu, Nothemba was very convincing when telling the nurses that her boyfriend and the father of her newborn baby had committed suicide. “We became so close to her. We even thought she was suicidal and gave in to her demands,” said Sr Lawu, adding that Nothemba first asked for money to go and bury her boyfriend. Sr Khanyiswa Magidimisi gave her R500. She even went to the nurses’ houses, wore their clothes, slept and used their cellphones “as she was trying to sort out her problems”. The other victim was Sr Nombulelo Fongqo. “She’s a manipulative liar with a sweet tongue. She abused their generosity,” said Senior Social Worker

Four die in N2 taxi accident RIAAN MARAIS FOUR people died and ten were injured in a minibus-taxi accident on the N2 near Grahamstown on Saturday. According to police spokesperson, Capt Mali Govender, the taxi was transporting passengers from PE to Grahamstown. The accident occurred at about 8am, approximately 30km from Grahamstown. Some of the passengers were on their way to Pedi for a funeral. “According to the driver he lost control over the vehicle after one of the tyres burst. It overturned and landed on its roof. No other vehicles were involved in the accident,” said Govender.
Traffic came to a stand still as the 14 passengers were lying all over the road and the road had to be closed. An eye witness said shocked passengers and other motorists assisted those who were severely injured until the rescue workers arrived on the scene. The deceased died on the scene of the accident. They were Sebenza Gladys Mahote (62) from KwaZakhele, Nolethu Elizabeth Moanga (59) from New Brighton, Nonkululeko Luvuno (42) from NU 8 Motherwell and Luyanda Matshaya (40) from KwaZakhele. The other passengers were all taken to hospital in Grahamstown and those in a critical condition were taken to PE. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.

She was last seen in May 2012 in Joe Slovo West informal Settlement where she abandoned the above-named child, who is 15 months old, at a place where she was staying.

Owen Camagu laid to rest NCEBA DLADLA THE untimely passing of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Senior Traffic Superintendent Mnikelo Owen Camagu (42) has been described as a great loss. Camagu, who was gunned down in a hail of bullets in front of his house in KwaDwesi, Port Elizabeth two weeks ago was laid to rest after a service held at the Nangoza Jebe Community Hall in New Brighton on Sunday. Speaking at the funeral, the Executive Mayor, Councillor Zanoxolo Wayile described Camagu as a highly dedicated and respected officer who took his job very seriously and had a bright future ahead of him. A former trade unionist Cllr Wayile served with Camagu whose “blend of principles, warmth and passion for the issues that affected the communities he served clearly demonstrated his commitment to service,” said Wayile. According to Wayile, Camagu’s passing was a
loss of a citizen of good standing, ability and integrity. “The labour movement and the working class have lost a true unionist who championed their cause with vigour, dedication and ability.” Camagu’s nephew Sisa Kona (31) described Camagu as a caring father and loving husband. “Comrade Camagu’s tragic death unfortunately also drives home the fact that evil lives among us. Officer Camagu is the second Safety and Security officer of the Municipality to be killed within the space of weeks. Just recently, officer Mafu Puzi was gunned down in similar fashion in front of his New Brighton home,” said Wayile, adding that the two murders have invoked suspicions that there could be sinister forces hell bent on silencing and eliminating those they disagree with. He said the two murders have also reignited the anger that was brought about by the murders of Vusi Ngqunge, Melekile Hani, Xolani Yoyo and Gerald Yona, all of whom were gunned down execution style.Camagu was laid to rest at the Forest Hill Cemetery. He leaves behind his wife Khosi, three sons and three nieces.

Historical mini library for blind launched NCEBA DLADLA HISTORY was made when a pilot project Mini Library (Mini Lib) for the visually impaired was officially launched at Elukhanyisweni Public Library in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage last Thursday. This groundbreaking project, a partnership between the Provincial Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture under MEC Xoliswa Tom, South African National Council for the Blind, SA Library Services and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality was initiated to provide library services for the blind community. Elukhanyisweni became one of the
seven public libraries in the province provided with furniture, equipment and training accessibility to benefit the visually disabled. The equipment includes audio-readers, text readers, computer soft-ware, Braille books and other services supplied by SA Library for the Blind. According to Portfolio Councillor Andile Mfunda who spoke on behalf of Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Zanoxolo Wayile who could not attend, this minilib showed that “our government cares for the disabled members of our communities.” SA National Council for the Blind chairperson Xolisa Yekani agreed “it would open up new avenues for blind people.” With this kind of support, Yekani said, the blind can achieve any-
thing they set their sights on. “The visually impaired have a constitutional right to access these services. This pilot project in the Eastern Cape has been so successful that we are hoping it will eventually be rolled out across the country,” said Project coordinator, Phumla Mahanjana. Mahanjana said library staff are currently being trained to assist users of the equipment and to identify individuals who could benefit from the equipment. Public library workshops are also held to train and benefit members of the local community on the usage of the equipment and to integrate them with the blind.

Organisations celebrate minilib launch in Uitenhage THE launch of the minilib in Elukhanyisweni Public Library in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage is a start for an integration between members of the community and the blind and partially blind. The SA National Council for the Blind, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, SA Library Services, Nelson Mandela Bay Councillors and Senior officials, the schools and the cultural organisations spoke in one voice whilst celebrating the historical launch in the Eastern Cape, following one in Humansdorp in 2010. Bath Rugby Club donates kit NCEBA DLADLA THE United Kingdom based Bath Rugby Club donated rugby kit to benefit the learners of Emsengeni Primary School in Zwide, Port Elizabeth recently. The event, which was attended by EP Rugby CEO Anele Pamba, EP Vice-President Phillip Joseph and some of EP Kings players, was aimed at transforming the lives of under-privileged children through sport. The club from England in association with Bath Minis and LV=SOS delivered 60 items of assorted kit to the rugby mad school which has given birth to a host of rugby players in the region including Siya Kolisi. A delighted school principal Zandile Nocanda mentioned that her school was recognised because of their tireless efforts in rugby development led by teacher Eric Songwiqi. “I don’t know who chose us - but we deserve it. And truth be told, we’re doing well in sport and especially rugby,” said Nocanda proudly.
We are lucky to have friends in higher places. I want to thank Bath for the donations. But we also thank the school’s development initiatives,” said Pamba. “The kit really does change lives, giving children from all different backgrounds and of all abilities the chance to take part in sport. “They feel part of something, and it helps to build their self-esteem and social skills that may have been missing otherwise,” said Gareth Chilcott, former Bath player and ambassador. Current EP Kings player and former Bath player Luke Watson, who also played a part in the donation, said Bath’s partnership would surely help develop rugby in the region. “It will have a huge benefit on the local playing community and help some of the less fortunate children find passion and skill for the game that they may not have had a chance to play otherwise,” said Watson. “We’re so overwhelmed by the reception. It’s unbelievable,” said Bath’s Marketing and Communications Director Jez Curwin at the event.
Boqwana, Loon and Connellan donates to Ikhwezi High School NCEBA DLADLA IKHWEZI LOMSO Comprehensive School learners wrote a letter to thank a Port Elizabeth law-firm Boqwana, Loon and Connellan (BLC) Attorneys for the donations it had made to this Zwide township school. PE Express Indaba has learnt that the school’s relationship with the firm has helped it obtain four concrete benches which are placed strategically under trees around the playground; an honours board on which to put the Top Grade 12 learner’s names each year, two soccer balls, two netball balls and an equal number of rugby balls. “The Sports Committee of Boqwana, Loon and Connellan Attorneys Sports Commitee hosted an Annual Soccer Challenge recently and used the proceeds to purchase the goods to benefit the school,” said BLC spokesperson
Sharon Lottering. The overjoyed learners wrote in part: “Thank you for the kind interest your firm showed in our school. We were overwhelmed by your visit and the hands-on involvement in our well-being. You have helped us to make our school a beacon of hope.” The learners said they were looking forward to recording top learners on the board; an exercise they admit will help inspire and motivate others to give more effort in their studies. They said the garden benches were highly appreciated as they helped to give the learners a sense of dignity in an environment which was otherwise run down and neglected. According to Lottering, the firm assisted two IKhwezi Lomso Comprehensive School learners at the Moot Court Competition in 2010 and was looking forward to assisting two more in the next competition.

In the fight, Wiseman Kega from George became the Western Cape Junior bantamweight champion after stopping Unathi Mndwana of Plettenberg Bay in the seventh round of their 10-round scheduled fight. “There was a problem in the Western Cape and we were asked by BSA to save the situation,” said BSA Nelson Mandela Bay Service Provider Mthunzi Mapitiza. BSA Western Cape Service Provider Mickey Klaas had a bereavement as his sister had died and was buried in East London on Saturday. His officials had to run a major tournament with international titles at stake in Cape Town on the same day, according to Mapitiza. Mapitiza, together with ring offi-

There was no way we (as BSA) on the other hand could let a debutante boxing promoter lose out - it was also the first professional fight in the area. Fans wanted it. There was a lot at stake in the Cape Town fight too - it had to go on so we went out of our way to assist,” said Mapitiza proudly. But Mapitiza was quick to add: “Of course BSA licensees are free to operate anywhere in the country. It is only regional managers or the so-called service providers that operate in regions and provinces. But where there is an overlap, someone must go out and help - so we did and it was a resounding success,” said Mapitiza.

NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality’s Premier Soccer League hopeful, Bay Stars FC has revealed Mark Harrison as the new coach during the team’s Awards Ceremony at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s Sport Centre, VIP Lounge last Wednesday. Pessimists who were hoping they (as the management) would lose hope and close shop and that the team did not win promotion to the National First Division must think again, said Lovegrove, during the event which also marked the official closing of the season.
“Instead we’re making huge announcements of the appointment of the globally experienced Head Coach, Mark Harrison and with commitment still continuing with the plans of starting a Football Academy,” said Lovegrove proudly, adding that the technical team would remain unchanged. Harrison comes with a formidable reputation as a player and coach locally and overseas. He has played for Stoke City, Portland and Southampton in England and also for Hellenic in the National Premier Soccer League. He coached Bangladesh National Team, Black Aces, African Warriors, FC Fortune in the National First Division as well as Bristol City and Everton. He told PE Express Indaba that he saw Stars players on the field and was
impressed. “The mandate is clear: I win promotion to the NFD. With the kind of players that I have, I am positive that we’ll do it. This city (Nelson Mandela Bay) deserves a team in the PSL and I’m sure we’ll deliver,” said Harrison. Meanwhile, Leroy van Rensburg received the Player of the Year and Top Goal Scorer of the Year Awards, Lutho Totwana and Mlungisi Zitho took home the Young Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year Awards respectively while Bongani Kama was voted the Most Improved Player of the Year. “They worked hard and deserved rest. We’ll switch them off totally until 23 July, the start of the new season,” said Team manager Nick Myataza.

ZAFA Junior league thrilling games SELBY MADIKANE ZAKHELE Football Association (ZAFA) junior league thrilling games kept the fans on their feet right from the first game up to the last game at Wolfson on June 24. In the only U-9 game which was played, Brazil Brothers thumped Ghetto XI with whopping score of 4-1.
The two U-13 games which took place produced some fireworks where Fast XI played to a 1-1 draw against Ghetto XI, while Young Neighbours had the better of Young Professionals following their narrow triumph of 3-2. In the U-15 section Dynamos managed to edge out Brazil Brothers 3-2 while Young Professionals trailed to Black Eagles 2-3.
