Colette called this picture High Seas; she said I loved my walk along the Peacehaven promenade watching the big waves. It does make for a very striking photo. I hope you all got through the storm unscathed at the end of February. I know it made our advertisers very busy for a while, especially the fencing and roofing people. We live a few minutes from fields that lead onto the South Downs and 7 minutes walk from the Clifftop, so I often lay in bed at night listening to the weather. It used to worry me when I first moved here, now it helps to send me to sleep. It is turning out to be another eventful year with lots happening in the world and still much uncertainty. Someone asked me how I was doing the other day; all I could think was not bad, just life and livingness to deal with. I am sure it is the same for all of you. I have lots of events for Easter and the summer. I would love to have a page dedicated to the Jubilee in the May edition; I could really get my inner designer going. Please send me those events no later than April 15�� for inclusion in the May edition. Let's make June and the summer months really special this year. It would be great to really get socialising again for real. Our prices have increased because of a rise in delivery costs, and 3 printing rises over the last couple of years. We are still very competitive and have tried to keep it as low as possible. In fact, we have not had a price increase since 2013. The new price list can be found on page 60. PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE BOWLS CLUB Have you ever thought about playing bowls or wanted to know more about the game? We’re currently looking to recruit new members to join our friendly club. We are located in the Piddinghoe Sports Park at the end of Piddinghoe Avenue, on the opposite side of the car park to the Football Club. We have a six-rink green that is maintained to a high standard by Peacehaven Town Council, an extended clubhouse with good facilities and an outside raised viewing platform area. We currently have approximately 60 playing members. Our outdoor season begins on Saturday 23rd April this year and runs until the end of September. We have a full programme of friendly and league fixtures throughout the season, playing both home and away matches, as well as several social events for members. We have wheelchairs and bowling arms to enable disabled members to participate in the game too. During the winter months we also have facilities to enable members to play short mat in our pavilion.
WE’RE HOLDING AN OPEN DAY ON SATURDAY 7�� MAY Please just come along anytime between 10:00 am2:00 pm on the day if you’re interested in having a go and to meet some of our members. All equipment will be provided, but we would be grateful if you could please wear flat soled shoes. New members of any age will be most welcome. PEACEHAVEN TOWN COUNCIL’S EVENT TOWARDS ZERO CARBON Our Planet Needs Us - There’s No Planet B The town of Peacehaven is not only the point on the South Coast where the Greenwich Meridian enters and exits the country, but it also remains the only town in the UK to be named after peace. With its natural beauty, surrounding countryside and stunning coastal location, it is a community and town to be proud of which needs to be protected, cherished and sustained for future generations. With this in mind, Peacehaven Town Council is hosting the first ‘Towards Zero Carbon Peacehaven’ event at The Meridian Centre from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday 9�� April, to highlight and demonstrate the things – even the smallest of things – residents, local companies - in fact everyone - can all do to help the town move Towards Zero Carbon. So what exactly is Zero Carbon and what does it mean? Councillor David Seabrook explains: “Zero Carbon means that no carbon emissions are being produced. Whereas traditional energy sources such as coal, gas, oil, petrol and diesel all produce Carbon Dioxide when they are burned as fuel to produce electricity or power your car or heat your home. Zero Carbon means that no carbon emissions are being produced. “Of course, Zero Carbon is unrealistic which is why you hear about Net Zero Carbon or Carbon Neutral, where carbon emissions are offset through schemes such as tree planting. “For example, changing to a renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar, will dramatically reduce carbon emissions – and let’s not forget that renewable energy is now not only cleaner, but often cheaper than fossil fuels.” However, it’s not only about energy. Carbon can also be reduced by simple actions, which can save you money, such as buying locally produced food, reducing emissions from transport by walking, cycling,
using public transport and avoiding flying, buying less stuff; for example, thinking ‘do you really need the latest smart phone or a new 72 inch TV?’ Towards Zero Carbon Peacehaven is sponsored by Rampion Offshore Wind and supported by The Big Lemon Bus Company who will be running a free electric bus around the town and Telscombe, helping to get people to and from the event. In addition, the event will see a wide variety of stalls and exhibitors including a Climate Café, Dr Bike, Sustrans, Enterprise Car Club, Cycling Without Age, Community Orchard and Garden, Energy Champions, Ovesco, Plastic Free Peacehaven, Greenhavens, Water Refill, Sussex Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps, Sussex Wildlife Trust, Freegle, Lewes District Council, Water Blade and many more; all of whom will have attendees on hand to explain how we can make small changes that will help make a difference. “In 2019, Peacehaven Town Council declared a Climate Emergency which pledged to make Peacehaven Town Council carbon neutral by 2030. To limit the impact of climate change we all have a part to play and it is vital that all communities play their part in reducing carbon emissions. “We hope that our event will encourage our community to make small, inexpensive changes that will, in time, make a big impact. Not every change needs to be expensive like a new electric car or a heat pump, there are many smaller, cheaper things we can all do that can have a positive impact on climate change. (Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites Osteopathy Tips MAINTENANCE OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT (M.O.T.) Many people take much better care of their car than their bodies. In essence, the aspects of care are similar with both cars and bodies. A car regularly needs petrol, water, oil, and air in the tyres; also services and various repairs, usually increasing with age. At regular services, a car may need a change of oil, spark plugs, filters, belts, etc. When a car is old enough to require an MOT you may be advised and/or required to replace tyres, brakes, windscreen, etc. If we fill our tank with diesel when the car is designed to run on petrol, things can go badly wrong. When the tyres are flat you can fill up the tank with the best fuel, but you will still not be able to drive; equally putting air in tyres when the fuel tank is empty will not help get you from A to B. It is necessary to give specific attention to correcting a specific problem your car is having in order for it to function well for you. Similarly, with a body, some of its basic needs are fuel (good food, the right food), water, oil, air (and rest); also 'services' and various repairs, usually increasing with age! If we are healthy, the most regular services relate to teeth and eyes and with ladies of a certain age cervical and breast checks. Many people tend to consider their health only when they are ill. We can buy a new car but not a new body!
This enables us to function well even though we have problems and limitations in our bodies. We don't have to think about limping when our foot hurts, it just happens naturally; for example, a young child with a hip problem can still manage to run around by using a swinging movement at the hip to use their leg; nobody needs to be taught how to do this, it just happens naturally. The downside to this is that, apart from acute injuries, by the time we get symptoms and things may start to hurt, we have probably walked around with the problem for quite some time and built up some very clever compensations to help us deal with it; some of the compensations may start to give symptoms too. In my experience, regular M.O.T. helps to keep the body moving and functioning well and helps to iron out the problems we are compensating for so well before they cause symptoms. Each person is different in how often they need an M.O.T. depending on health, issues, activities, work, lifestyle, etc. Generally, M.O.Ts. can be cost-effective as it can help in preventing issues from causing further problems through compensations becoming issues in themselves and taking more time and work to sort out. We are happy to advise you on your health matters.
I notice that many people tend to come for osteopathic treatment only when something hurts and then stop coming when it feels better, which is absolutely fine. I also notice that people's symptoms start to ease when their body has not yet fully restored optimal movement and functionality. This is part of a wonderful self-preservation method we have, our ability to compensate for a problem or issue. Saltdean Townswomen’s Guild Saltdean Townswomen’s Guild, Women at War! We are fortunate at the Saltdean Townswomen’s Guild to have been able to source some amazing speakers over the last few months since Covid struck! Our Programme Organiser Elaine has done a great job and our speakers range from old-time medicine, local history and most recent was a wonderful lady in full costume who talked to us about the life of a “First World War Nurse” and the many roles that women filled at that time. Sarah Helen Snow gave us insights into the work women did during the war and how they coped with the hardships, with little medication, or even hospitals. Many large country houses and estates were turned into recuperation units and took the injured from field hospitals, in the hopes that with the care of the nurses the soldiers would eventually recover. We were also given the opportunity to view her extensive records and pictures and see what a nurse would have had to deal with. At the time of writing, with yet another war in Europe, we all are thinking “What can I do?”, lets’ hope that our government provides what is needed and that the

Once upon a time knowledge was transferred from person to person through conversations and printed medium often limited in terms of geography and availability. Newspapers, radio and television extended that reach but they still had their limitations:
Here are some suggestions to keep your information/ news intake in check.
- The news was ‘on’ only at set times.
Which sources? Choose sources of information you trust and be open to explore different points of view. Try to limit your number of sources to 2-3.
- Newspapers were at the most, a daily opportunity to catch up on the ‘latest’. One had to wait for the next day to find out more.
Why now? If you have just looked at the news 10 min ago, do you really need to check it again now? What else could you do instead?
- Television was not broadcasting anything after a certain time of the night and had a limited number of channels.
When? Set some boundaries. Check the news at specific times of the day. What for? Are you looking for a specific piece of information or are you scrolling mindlessly until something catches your eye? Ask yourself: what for?
Now we can consume information from across the globe, at any time, in any language through a seemingly endless buffet of mediums that we click, tap, swipe. We can choose from many devices, countless apps, multiple social networks and search engines. “There are more pieces of digital content (or online information) in the world today than there are grains of sand on every beach on Earth.”
How does it make you feel? Tune in with your body. Is the information you are consuming nourishing or depleting? Do you really want to share it? Pass the information through the 3 sieves of Socrates … Is it true? Is it kind? is it necessary?
This abundance is simultaneously a blessing, offering amazing opportunities and a curse as we over-consume information leading to a risk of infobesity. Our brain is regularly receiving more input than it can process, too many choices to make and decisions to take which can lead to anxiety, lack of focus and a feeling of being overwhelmed.

Deadlines are dictated by the printer and are strict! All artwork must be in by the 15th of the month before you’d like your ad to appear. For example, for the May issue we must receive copy by April 15th at the latest.
