welcom e to Pe achtree Presby terian Church Where everyone is welcome, nobody is perfect, and anything is possible.
Today’s message I Believe In Doubt: Why Won’t God Answer Me? Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 Preachers: Vic Pentz at 8:45 and 10:00 and Marnie Crumpler at 11:15 a.m. Today, in the aftermath of Easter, we claim the hope that is ours because of Jesus’ resurrection. We believe that Christ “has indeed been raised from the dead” and because of this we believe that “in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Cor. 15:20-22). As we read the names of our members who have gone to be with the Lord, taking their place in “the Church Triumphant,” we do so knowing that death has been swallowed up in life. Mission Team to Cuba Pray for our young adult mission team which departs on Saturday to spend a week building on our strategic partnerships with Matanzas Seminary and Jaguey Grande Presbyterian Church.

Memorial SUNDAY Assemble in god’s name Prelude....................................................................................................Nicholas Bowden Chiming of the Hour **Life of the Congregation Prayer of Adoration
Give praise to God The drama of worship is captured in the poetic text of this much loved hymn. In worship the “heart unfolds” like a flower in the life giving presence of God that draws us the way the sun draws the buds of spring. The text we sing was composed by Henry Van Dyke c. 1911 and is set to the music of Beethoven’s ninth symphony.
* *Hymn of Praise Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee...........................................................HYMN TO JOY Page 7 Lighting of the Candles Placement of the Bible *Affirmation of Faith What is your only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him. (From the Heidelberg Catechism)

*Congregational Response How Great Thou Art................................................................................O STORE GUD T hen sings my soul, “My Savior God to Thee: How great Thou art, how great thou art!” Then sings my soul, “My Savior God to Thee: How great Thou art, how great thou art!”
Fannie Crosby, who wrote these lyrics and over 8,000 hymns during her lifetime, was blind from infancy. She once said, “When I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior.”
Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Offering Our Gifts Lord, Here Am I..............................................................................John Ness Beck The Chancel Choir aster, Thou callest, I gladly obey; M Only direct me, and I’ ll find Thy way. Teach me the mission appointed for me, What is my labor, and where it shall be. Master, Thou callest, and this I reply, “Ready and willing, Lord, here am I.” W illing, my Savior, to take up the cross; Willing to suffer reproaches and loss; Willing to follow, if Thou will but lead; Only support me with grace in my need. Master, Thou callest, and this I reply, “Ready and willing, Lord, here am I.” L iving or dying, I still would be Thine, Yet I am mortal while Thou art divine. Pardon, whenever I turn from the right; Pity, and bring me again to the light. Master, Thou callest, and this I reply, “Ready and willing, Lord, here am I.”

*Hymn of Thanksgiving Holy, Holy, Holy (all singing)...........................................................................NICAEA H oly, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning, our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty. God in three Persons, blessed Trinity: Amen!
Listen to god’s word read and proclaimed I Believe in Doubt: Why Won’t God Answer Me?.............................................................Vic Pentz Senior Pastor (8:45 & 10:00) Marnie Crumpler Executive Pastor (11:15) 2 Corinthians 12:1-10....................................................................Pew Bible, page 1806
The text of this hymn was composed by William W. How and first published in 1864. A memorial stone to the composer has been placed at the Cathedral of All Saints in Wakefield (England). How is actually buried in Shropshire where he served as rector for 28 years.
I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows—was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Who Is Jesus?: Linking the Historical Jesus with the Christ of Faith
By Darrell L Bock
IS JESUS WHO HE SAID HE WAS? Some say he was just a man; others claim he was the Son of God. Historian Darrell Bock tests the authenticity of Jesus’ claims against the rules of history to find out if he truly is the Christ of Faith. This reader-friendly book examines twelve events, sayings, and teachings of Jesus, using ten well-accepted historical rules. Pull up a chair, engage in the conversation, and discover how fascinating the discussion of the historical Jesus can be. Available in the Peachtree Bookstore and the Williams Center.
