SERMON OUTLINE

RESCUING: FROM SURROUNDED TO SALVATION

Psalm 118

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. – 2 Corinthians 4:8

A prayer for when you are overwhelmed …

• Pressed Down – the cry for help

Surrounded … surrounded … They swarmed around me like bees … (v. 10-12)

When hard pressed, I cried to the L ord ; he brought me into a spacious place. (v. 5)

• Welcomed In – the King who saves

With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. (v. 27)

L ord , save us! L ord , grant us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the L ord . (v. 25)

Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the L ord . (v. 19)

• Built On – the cornerstone that holds

The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; (v. 22)

Give thanks to the L ord , for he is good; his love endures forever. (v. 1 & 29)

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” – Matthew 21:8-10
